The
Sony Ericsson Z200 is an entry-level flip phone. On the positive
side, it's a nicely-crafted phone that looks good, especially when
closed. It has a good choice of exchangeable covers, and an internal
aerial. It has all the basic features that you might need from a
phone, but that's about it. The phone is reasonably compact, but
not that lightweight. The screen is pretty average, and the spec
is pretty much the minimum you would expect from a mobile phone
in 2005. A nice phone if you just want to make calls and text friends,
but not 100% reliable, as you will see if you read the user reviews
below.
Features of the Sony Ericsson Z200 include:
Internal colour STN screen (4096 colours, 128
x 128 pixels)
External status display
40-voice polyphonic ringtones
Ringtone composer
SMS, EMS
Predictive text input
Changeable covers
Wallpaper
Embedded games - Alien Scum, Honey Cave and
Mini Golf

On first impressions this is a really great phone. It has a good,
clear, colour screen, good graphics and is very easy to use. However,
I have had mine for less than a year but, as seems to be the growing
trend with phones of about this age, it is no longer functional.
It has stopped sending and receiving texts, vibrates randomnly even
when no-one is calling, I can't retrieve my voicemail messages and
the buttons don't always work! Seriously people, don't buy this
phone! I have a few friends with the same phone and they're all
experiencing similar problems. If you want a phone that's going

As an entry level phone, which is what i was after - this phone
is superb. It looks good, and although it could be a little slimmer
(although it is fairly slim considering its 'doubled up') it fits
in my pocket well. I didnt want a cr*py camera or be able to play
MP3's on (whats the point when you have an Ipod or other MP3 player
which you can fit MANY more tracks on). I wanted: a fairly decent
screen - which this has (i dont know what some of the bad comments
mean when they say that the screen is rubbish? Its not SUPER - but
its good. a decent level of quality for ring tones - which this
has (although is you're into downloading tones - this phone isnt
the most compatable) A flip phone that is attractive, with exchangable
covers - it does the first two brilliantly, but i have only ever
seen a few different covers - they are very hard to come by. The
only problems that i have is that it can occasionally freeze (ive
had this twice maybe) - but that is the only problem that ive had

I would give this phone a higher rating , except it has had to go
back to SonyEricson TWICE in about six months. I got it for its
usability outdoors & indeed it is good for this-strap on handle
at top + clockface (can use to find compass North if need to). From
my experience in electronic repairs & with this unit, I would say
there is a standard electrical fault (or two) apparently "in the
PCB switch" . (I will see the report soon). All units made before
a certain date, will likely be prone to the electronic faults described
in the below consumer reviews. HAVE THESE PARTS REPLACED PRIOR TO
THE END OF YOUR WARRENTY (No Charge) . If the local Sony Ericson
office refuses to do this , you can do what I did (if you are in
Australia) - lodge a "Help me!" online to government's consumers
affairs office in your state, or go direct & lodge a written complaint
to the telecommuncations industry ombudsman. The Z200 ought not
to be manufactured or sold anymore unless all new batches are free
of the original faults In the interests of recyling (avoiding electronic
waste ending up in landfill) I will persist with this model till
it packs up & there is no warrenty to cover it. Otherwise avoid
this model. (Not because of its features). PS- Newer software makes
the SMS etc faster. Good luck & know your consumer rights. Rating:

i could start writing my message all over again! This started to
happen more regually even if i was searchin for a number it would
just go all muddled up and then just freeze! I have a virgen Z200

charge all through the night which ur supposed to do so its fully

I've had this phone for 12 months now with vodafone and will shortly
be upgrading to the K700i. to make this review more helpful i have
split it up into various paragraphs below STYLING - outside, love
it (except the handle, who thought of that?) very snazzy, nice colour
and good choice of changeable facias. Inside however takes some
getting used to, bright orange around the screen and buttons. EASE
OF USE - buttons sometimes hard to use, sometimes a slight delay
before it appears on the screen (especially during txting. Other
than that probably the easiest phone to navigate (i didnt need instructions
its so easy). The biggest problem with this phone as far as ease
of use is concerned is removing the back cover (holing the battery),
its way way way too fiddly, i have to use a knife! EXTRAS - not
many! probably the biggest let down for this phone. theres no camera,
bluetooth, the screen isn't good enough quality to recieve images
from other phones. although it does have infra - red (not so much
an extra as it is standard nowadays). It does also come with 3 games,
all very enjoyable, mini golf (fantastic!), honey cave 2 (a futuristic
shooting missions game) and Alien scum (amazing - old fashioned
game in the style of space invaders. As for ringtones, they are
excellent polyphonics. You can exchange with ur mates and download
songs as your ringtone (polyphonic though) PRACTICALTIY - you dont
get much more practical than this. its very much a no frills, does
wat it should, flip phone. Very easy to use, battery lasts days
and days on end (and im a very high user!) CONCLUSION - For what
you pay for this now you get an excellent phone for someone who
wants exactly that.........JUST A PHONE, something to do its job,
but with a little bit of added style. However the lack of camera
will obviously dissapoint some. Rating:

4) is like number 2 on the nokia 3315. other than that the phone
is a cheap flip phone and is great for someones first phone. i think...
age compatible: all agers (easy to operate) you deserve better if
your: 16 years and over IT NEEDS A CAMERA!!!!! get Rid OF the handle!
i bought this phone for 130 dollars, i think its worth the effort
to save another 60 dollars and get a BEtter phone which has a camera

I bought this phone as an upgrape from my Panasonic G50, becasue
it had a better battery life, and was a flip phone that was inexpensive.
Within the first week the clock on the front had packed it in and
wasn't working properly (the white bits were black and vice versa).
I called up Sony Ericson and they told me that I could get a replacement
if I took it back to where I bought it from. They replaced it straight
away with a new one, and it works fine. The first phone was just
faulty. Great phone, all my friends were jealous when I bought it
as it's cool and cheap. Doesn't have camera or mp3 but that doesn't
bother me as I've got my own camera and mp3 player that work much
better than most other phone's cameras or mp3 players do. I'm happy
with it. Rating:

I've had this phone for about five months, during which it's served
me adequately. There are several problems I had with it, though:
(1) lack of ringtones, faceplates, etc. as phone is not popular
(2) network reception is not regained automatically (3) screen was
dim in the corner (4) feels flimsy AND two days ago it started locking
up, turning itself off, etc. Yesterday it stopped working completely.
I'm going to send it in for repairs but I'm not expecting much.
Sad, really, it has so much potential. Rating:

not a whole lot of memory, no camera, no mp3 but i don't really
care bout those kind of things... i already have a digi cam and
a mp3/cd player. i like the shape. alot of phones out there are
really loud, but this phone has a nice volume. the only problem
i have with this phone is that the buttons are a bit hard to press.
also, when i tried to take the cover off it almost gave me a heart
attack! i thought i was going to break the thing!! ;_; i'm guessing
it would have a weak signal going under a tunnel and in the subway

Bought it in June from Virgin and three weeks later complained about
the slow software and poor backlit keypad. I was persuaded to give
it a longer appraisal and kept it for another four months. The slow
software got slower as I added entries to my address book and text
messages took an age to send. I've also had text message delivery
problems which I've never had before and may be the fault of the
Z200, I'm not absolutely sure but remain sceptical. As with some
of the other reviewers when you are back in range having lost the
signal it takes an age to lock on again which sometimes required
a switch off and restart. By chance I reactivated my retired T68i
(battery problem) and was astounded at the speed of input and retrieval
of data and the lightning fast dispatch of messages. Virgin have
been helpful and approachable and are supplying another phone, not
a Z200 thank you very much, in exchange! I started my mobile ownership
with an Excel seventeen years ago and have had a few since but the
Z200 is the worst, the T68i may be the best. Rating:

Summary: The worst phone I've used. I'm a die-hard Sony-Ericsson
phone. I was a huge fan of the Ericsson T28 for its looks alone,
so when it came time to buy a new one, I thought I'd stick to the
brand. I came across the Sony-Ericsson Z200 online, saw its features,
and thought "excellent!". It was a sweet phone which appeared to
keep things simple, and so I duly ordered it. The Sony-Ericsson
Z200 is an excellent-looking phone, and the front cover display
that switches between the analogue clock and displaying phone information
(time, signal strength, etc) is good. The controls and operating
system are easy enough to use, and standard things such as sound
quality, etc, were great. The phone completely fails in some very
important criteria, though. Firstly, the phone itself appears to
have some major bugs. When first turned on, it can take up to three
minutes for you to access your address book, SMS inbox, or call
list - any attempts to access these features will result in an infuriating
"Please Wait" message. I'm assuming this is because the phone is
loading the data from the SIM card and phone memory, but the amount
of time is prepostorous. I have 11 numbers in my address book, and
about 20 text messages in my inbox ; for some reason, this takes
up to three minutes to "load". Secondly, the problem above is further
amplified by other bugs which impact the phone's signal reception.
The Z200 appears to have problems "getting back" the signal after
you're phone has gone out of range. An example of this is when I
catch the Underground to work - there's no mobile signal on the
Underground, so when you arrive back on the street, the phone should
hook back onto the mobile network instantly. The majority of the
time, it doesn't. Because it's not on my mind to turn my phone OFF
and then ON everytime I get off the train, the Z200 never regains
signal, and will sit there happily for hours on end receiving no
calls or text messages. So to fix it, you turn the phone OFF and
then ON. Which is a 10-second process. Then you WAIT three minutes
until you can look at your message inbox, address book, or call
list. Starting to see the problem? You SHOULD NOT have to turn your
phone on and off to regain a mobile signal, and it can be incredibly
annoying to realise that your phone has been out of action for the
better part of a day when you're expecting phone calls. Thirdly,
the ring volume & signals on the Sony Ericsson Z200 are atrocious.
Regardless of how loud or what signal I use, I can easily not hear
my mobile phone ringing from the next room, or when I'm wearing
headphones with the phone in my pocket 30 centimetres. My old T28
had a monophonic "beep" ring speaker, that, whilst as not as "lush-sounding"
as the Z200's polyphonic speaker, could at least be heard from the
other side of the house. There's a few other bones I have to pick
with this phone, but the core problems are listed above. I really
wish I could give this phone a 5-star rating and say "It's great",
because if it wasn't for the functionality bugs, it would be. But
it's not. It fails miserably at the most essential things, and that's
what counts. Your mileage may vary, but please be warned. The firmware
version on my phone is R4B, and the firmware version for this phone
is reportedly up to R4E, so some of the bugs above may be fixed
- chat to your salesman and ask to see a demonstration before buying.
Throw your SIM card in the phone, turn it on, and see if you can
reproduce the problems above. If so, stay well away. I'm now looking
for a cheap Ericsson T28 on eBay - this phone is almost worthless
to me now. Rating:

I would give it 0 star's if I could have. I got the phone in May.
Been in for repair twice for the battery life. Basically, I could
get 10 minutes talk time from the battery, and a day stand by time.
The buttons are awful. So hard to press. The software is slow, and
takes ages for a text message to appear on the screen. I have now
got the Sharp GX25 and I won't be going back to Sony Ericsson Rating:
