The Sony Ericsson W710i is a Walkman phone in a clamshell format. It's designed for an active lifestyle, with rubber inlays to improve grip, a belt clip and a sports armband. The W710i even has a motion sensor to measure time, speed and distance when you run, and a step counter for walking. Central to the W710i are its music player functions. The music player is stereo and can support a wide range of formats including MP3 and AAC. Audio quality is high, with Mega Bass™ to enhance bass frequencies. A stereo headset is supplied, which enables the RDS FM radio to operate. Alternatively a Bluetooth stereo headset can be used.

In addition to the fitness and music applications, the W710i is very well featured. A 2 megapixel camera is included, plus all the usual features that you'd expect. Memory is very good, with a 512 Mbyte memory stick supplied. All kinds of connectivity are supported, including USB mass storage, for easy transfer of music files from a PC. Battery life is excellent.

The W710i is a highly recommended Walkman phone for anyone who will make use of its music and fitness applications.

It is so nice but it has to problems It's camera dosen't have zoom in normal mode. It's Saved Message memory is limited and so small.

Ye,its a very stylish fone ever on a clamshell,I really accept this but it doesnt hve d flash light nd d zoom level isnt more.I'm confused which will be d best still i am with my 810i.not so sure still good enough fo music lovers.Its size a litttle bit small.connectivity features awesome.Its poor at network signals+internet access.

My first Sony Ericsson phone ever. Rubber started pealing in the middle of the fourth month. Got it replaced for free. Warranty ends October. Already got me looking for a new phone. Not sure if I'll ever buy another Sony Ericsson.

The rubber inlays started coming off within the first two months of use. We took it back to the store where we got it and got no help. Also, the battery does not last throughout one day! It was not a cheap phone either!!!!!

i moved from samsungs to the w800i which i found to be a wonderful phone after 12 months i decided to upgrade and stayed with sony ericcson the w710i is ugly but beauty comes from within i love the pedometer as i walk everywhere and it helps me know when im being lazy, the walkman feature is as good as the w800i, i have dropped it 3 times and it remains scuff free. i upgraded to the lg shine 2 weeks ago for aesthetic reasons and im now selling the beauty and sticking with the beast this is a brill phone.

got this phone on a contract with o2, i have always liked the sonyericson phones. It was free on the contract and that was fine with me, came with 512 mb, even better, and speakers, tinny sure but it was free so i said hah. mind you the headphones supplied are great, you also have the option of a nice little mic for handsfree. Its a sports phone, yet ive never known anyone want a phone for sports. if your having issues with this phone its probably because you didnt have a sony ericson beforehand. i like the fact it has an rss reader and the web works perfectly on it. if your having issues with web connection go to the mobile networks providers site and get teh settings sent to your phone, accept them on your phone, if your on some networks you need to send a picture message first before you can receive them and other networks take 24 hours to activate. vodafone i never figured out but i think you have to call them to get it activated. if you still cant get on the net try travelling to another town, the internet connection exchange there might work better. still having issues, are you getting signal? no signal = no net. finally this phones software for connectivity is great, i only use file transfer and have tested the internet connection. could be useful when i move out. all in all an outstanding phone. last comment: o2 ftw

I made a review earlier on this phone saying that is was outstanding but i have changed my mind. Its camera is no where near 2mp the 6230s 1.3 mp is better. its signal is bad and the internet access never works. do not buy this phone!!!!!

i think this phone is Spectacular the fitness aplication is awesome and so is the Walkman Player but it let me down by the speaker not being very loud but apart from that everything eles is wicked the Games the memory stick and the headphones. P.S this phone is limeted edition so if your thinking of buying one look on ebay.

i really love this phone up to the time it startred giving trouble......................i travel with the phone on safe mode and when i reached my destination the phone just would not come on i dont know whats wrong with it now....i can play music only but nothing else because the screen is just white......is anyone ouththere having this problem please let me know

I had this phone for 2 months and loved it as i love to listen to music and having all my fave Shania Twain songs on my phone was fantastic. the only problem i have with it is that it dont cope very well with being ran over by a car, now it spends its life as a door-stop, a very good one at that!!!

I have had this phone for about 2 months. It is meant for fitness and I dont use that. You wold think that me having this phone would be pointless but the phone is outstanding. it has not made me feel bad once and the music player is awesome. the graphics are perfect and the connectivity and battery life is superb. another Sony Ericsson triumph!

I've had the phone about 2 months & it is so far so good. The radio & MP3 are excellent + if you are used to SE the menus are a doddle. The only irritating things are the fact that you can't switch between the radio/MP3 with the phone closed; the menu should only have 9 options not 12 (so you can shortcut to them all); the buttons should have been metal not plastic; the flip can be awkward/fiddly to open - it could have done either with a button (Motorola style) or at least a space left between each bit of the clam-shell to fit your finger into (I'm sure this is a guy thing that come from having fat fingers!); but most disappointing is the camera which is RUBBISH. Overall though, it does exactly was it says on the tin & is a decent stab at a flip-phone.

This phone is very slylish especially if put around your arm with the band. The only issue i am facing is that the outer rubber grip that is provided comes out and then it looks very shabby as u cannot stick to the original perfection.

It is a good buy since was my first SE phone,and also first clampshelf,I was Nokia die hard but today it has turn point since,the features,lcd color are super especially external display shows"w" andit have it own class.It also excellent in walkman and ringtones. Bravo Sony Ericasson

Update review from 28 Feb. Had an software update for the phone from the ericsson website and solved the crashing/shut-off problem. Ran all sorts of applications, some simultaniously and had no problems. Simply a great walkman phone and am still astounded by the sound it puts out! Would've given a 5 star if not for the software glitch.

W710i has... -cool design -nice graphics -excellent walkman features -high sound quality -very good camera -fitness application very convenient but... -fulcrum produces cracking sound EVERYTIME opened -volume is so-so (not loud enough) -no 3G Other than those, this phone is awesome!! I bought it for its walkman features. Most phones are candybar, why not try a clamshell?

Have never reviewed anything before but had to write about this phone. It's the best phone I have ever had and I was a nokia diehard until last year when I got a samsung D600. This phone leaves the D600 + D900 (which I also tried for a week and found the same annoyances as I had with the D600) in the dirt ! I loved the D600 except the phone would only ring or vibrate not both at the same time, you couldn't choose a message tone and it was very hard to use the mp3 feature - i gave up and bought an ipod which is now sitting in a drawer at home since i got this phone. the camera is not great about the same standard as the D600 apart from that everything else is brilliant. I have over 100 music tracks stored on it. If using the walkman section which i do alot, it will use the battery up quite quickly. I need to charge every other night, although i am also using all day for work. the pedometer feature makes me go out and walk more !! I love this phone, it's my first sony ericcson but i'm now a convert - nokia who ??!

Excellent music features, sound is fantastic. Love the amount of direct shortcuts it allows. Camera is so-so. Too bad it crashes/shuts-off when closing the clamshell. Reason: running too many or complicated applications such as large image files or running a playlist where it's slow to process, so you have to wait a while before closing the clamshell. No problems using it just as a phone. Too bad as I bought it mainly for the walkman feature.

Hi, i got this phone is November 2006, and really liked it. However i have always found that the camera isn't great on it, although the pedometer and music player are pretty cool. In late january i went to europe and since then my phone has not been the same, the call list does not work on it. It only displays one call record which is from when a friend called me in january. It never displays who i rang or the incoming calls and if someone rings me so i can save the number i cannot do this as the phone has no recollection of it. Apart from this.. the phone is good tho. Anyone else have this problem? i will send the phone back now as its under warranty.

I had my W710i in October 2006 and I had nothing but problems kept switching off could not hear people on the phone, i had it fixed it carried on doing the same thing took it back received new one but that also had a fault people who rung me got cut off after ringing once, another problem was pc connection, I have since sent it back for a third time lets hope third time lucky as I like the phone.

Hi there, Ive just got this phone from O2 online, they are still selling the grey one which in my opinion is the better looking 1. All my friends have complimented it saying it looks really cool. It has a really handy belt clip which is good for me as I work as a security guard and need it to be secure and easy to reach. Ive been a fan of Sony Ericsson for some time now and have tried so many of their models, K800i, W850i and K750 to name a few. This has to be up there with the best, not as good as the K800i for camera but then theyve cornered the market with that 1, but certainly good on other features. The step counter isnt very reliable but then its a phone 1st and foremost not a step counter. Its a wonderful size and feels very sturdy when opened, I dropped it getting it out of the box and then again awhile later and there was not a scratch on it. The sound quality is amazing, playing songs using the speaker was very clear. The only downside I can see so far is the way the front display shows the 1st part of a text message taking away a little of the privacy one would want when getting saucy messages from a partner! I highly recommend this phone, Im VERY fussy when it comes to phones, I change them all the time but I must say I think this 1 is a keeper for some time.

Mega Nice phone, not selling well for some reason in the UK, CPW and the Dixons group has pulled the grey version from their portfolio, it was really hard to get the grey version of this phone. Had to get it off ebay, the grey one is discontinued in the UK now :(

They dont sell this phone in Australia so i especially went to thailand to buy it (not especialy, but i was ther to get a phone) anyway i love it to death. unfortunately i couldnt get the purple one cos apparantly the w710i duznt sell well, but are you kidding? walkman, camera, organiser and personal trainer all in one...what more could u ask for? at least its not a motorola v3 heaven forbid ;)

Sony's W710i is a pretty good phone. I'm really happy with its music features especially because I am able to hook it up to my Altec Lansing speakers. Now, that's cool! It also has a pretty decent camera that works well with natural light. If you want to take photographs, buy a camera. But for those little moments that you don't want to miss, the phone's camera is good enough. Battery life is good enough. You can listen to hours of music and play games without worrying about it turning dead. Overall, this is a great phone for young people.

Absolutey terrible got this phone home tried the camera is that what they call 2 megapixels? my samsung D500 took better photos for a 1.3 mp camera. After 2 months of recieving the phone it froze turnt off would not turn back on took it to get repaired lost all memory got it back and still experienced major problems took it back got myself a lovely K750i very pleased been working fine for the past 2 months thats 3 W710s ive had that have broke not happy will not be purchasing sony clamshells again!

to all those people that gave it a poor rating : i think your phones are broken. My w710i is great. Good volume during calls, quality pictures with natural light (and that's how a phone camera should be used), lots of memory, super functions like modem, video streaming, bluetooth, infrared ... everything you want .. it's there. Great battery life using the polymer 900mAh battery. (wich is the most advanced battery type at the moment for mobile phones) And .. yeah .. i agree it could've looked better .. but .. that's no biggie.

I have this phone and it is great! BUT after 2 months the internal screen became blank and it only worked when the phone was slightly opened. I left it for repair at the store about 10 days ago... still not here - bad luck(( But it is cool anyway, I love it))

ok half of these people havnt got the phone it is wicked you just cant fault it i was gunna buy the nokia 6280 but heard of all the things it did like the crashing and the dust behind the screen sorry but this phone is amazing and people who say it is creaking try using the nokia 6111 its like a old door this phone is amazing yes i agree the camera is not as good as the k750i but tjis is a musix phone and it still its pretty good.

hi. I hav just got this fone 4 xmas, i think the speaker is amazing when playing music and i think the fitness features r gud but the camera isn't as gud as my previous sony ericsson k750i coz it doesn't hav flash like my old 1. besides that i think it is a gr8 fone and the buttons r on the outside r very handy also it luks gr8 in purple!

I find the keypad on mine very stiff and not easy to press. Dont like the display. Had motorola and samsung clamshells before this. This is my first Se and have to say their display just doesnt match up. Even the mp3 player is a bit of a letdown. Am i the only one that gets a hissing sound during playback? And yes i have tried different files and formats. The only thing that impressed me is the long battery life.

Not bad but a bit plasticky and i'm not too happy with the speaker volume during calls. Music player is good, camera is ok. Menu is nice but can be a bit slow. I like the keypad but like i said the phone overall feels very plasticky and makes creaking noices when texting and when opening and closing the clam.

I've change my phone a lot and this is the best yet my last phone was the W900i too big but this phone has all the features and not too big, Best of sony's great sounds and with availability of a 1GB new M2 memory card your not stuck for memory also a great 3G phone acess to the web and lots more. No accidental calls made when phones in pocket as it also has a lock switch. Well done sony ! i never write reviews but was so pleased had to enter this review.

I think this phone is exellent!!!!!! Not only is it a good phone but my favourite colure of purple and white,the fitness has also encouraged me to walk more and enjoy some music at the same time.The reception is not as good but thats because of no external arial.

You can use the outer keys once you've unlocked the phone by using the slider on the right hand side of the phone. Great phone BTW.

AB FAB FONE!!! Not long had this phone and I LOVE IT, I only have 1 teeny, tiny problem and that is when the phone is closed I cant use any of the buttons on the front, does anyone have any clue as to whether this can be done?

Good phone. Not as small as samsung clamshells but very good battery for listening to hours of music. The display definiteley doesnt match my previous samsungs and the lack of AF in the camera really does make a difference to the quality as my friend's K750 takes much better pictures. The external display shows a lot of information for the mp3 player which is good but would have been better if it had a colour display. Menu has more options than samsungs but it's slower and not as easy to use. Could have been better but i'm pleased with the mp3 performance which is why i got it for.

I have had the phone for 2 weeks now, and have nothing to complain. It works exellent, and have all that features I've been looking for. It's cheap too, below 320¤. I've taken several photos and printed them out on A5 photopaper. The photos are supringsingly clear, withhout auto focus. The walkman and training unit works well, and it's ideal for them who suggest that joging is boring, when your are walking or running to obtain better condition. The calendar works also very well, and you can watch your next phone call or date on the little screen outside. It's the best phone I ever had (I've have had a lot of them). Run and buy it, and you will be positivly suprised.

Vince, I don not believe that you even own the phone. The phone has excellent reception in fact. It even has a large external antenna, so I can't believe that you're saying that it has horrible reception. Also I think that its external screen is brilliant in the day time. A large, black and white for flip phones are brilliant. They work well, are clear and easy to read, and don't require a backlight to be seen. I love it!

A rubbish piece of junk! External display not visible during the day, camera very poor for 2mp, lousy reception, low earpiece volume, cheap and plasticy build... a lousy addition to the walkman range. Save yourself the trouble and just get the W810.

to me it looks as though it has everything on it which makes it really good.but the only flaw is the cover cause for some reason it just looks ugly but overall its the best because i cant think of anything that it doesnt have that i need :)

i think its a really good phone if u want 2 track how fast your walking how far youve gone and how many steps youve taken. it also has a goos camera but unfortunatly no flash and im not sure but somewhere it said that it only has 10 secs video but i find that hard to believe. it has a huge external screen and is the newest version of the walkman collection. it has bluetooth MP3 2mp camera and 2.5x digital zoom. personally i like this phone becase of all its features and the way it looks witch i think is stylish and it also comes in purple!!!
