Sony Ericsson V630i Review

Phone rating:

The Sony Ericsson V630i is a 3G music phone exclusive to Vodafone. Almost identical in appearance and functionality to the Sony Ericsson K610i, this is a lightweight 3G phone with a high specification. Vodafone have added some additional music features such as Vodafone RadioDJ. This is an interactive music streaming service that lets you make your own music channels by rating tracks as you listen. Or you can simply choose to listen to your favourite digital radio station. The V630i also incorporates a music player and a memory card for storing plenty of MP3 tracks. A stereo headset is supplied as standard. Be aware though that users are reporting a fair number of faults and reliability problems with this handset. Read our full review of the Sony Ericsson K610i for more details.

The V630i is now obsolete. For a phone that looks similar, but has significantly updated features, we highly recommend the Sony Ericsson W890i from Dial-a-Phone. Check out their Sony Ericsson W890i deals.

I just bought this phone 2 days ago and i have to say its the best phone i have ever had!! The day before i bought the sony ericsson w200i but took it back and replaced it with this one as it did not have bluetooth!(best decision ever)!!.. It has everything i need on it!! no problems, great colour!(white and orange) and great design! I have downloaded all my fav songs so theres no need for an mp3 player! The camera is fab!...what more can i say!?!...and mine came with little speakers that plug in to the bottom so theres no need for a stereo either!! BUY THIS PHONE!! its fab!

Got V630i from vodafone as part of contract extension. Very good deal and well worth the money. However, the phone comes really poor in its installations. Vodafone puts all ringtones and games online for users to download and pay! So, you need to pay for your games, ringtones. I am not a game-frique using mobiles for all functions, but a typical mobile should come with two or three ringtones should not it? Overall converting from Nokia 6260 to Sony Ericsson was a good choice though, Phone is reliable despite vodafone's rip off!!! So my phone rating is 5, but partnership woth vodafone reduced it to 3. Sorry Sony Ericsson!

Having had a W800i and W810i I had no problem buying this phone, I have it in white and I think its the best looking phone I have ever seen! Functionaly it is absolutely terrific and a pleasure to use, its really responsive to use and all functions are layed out in a typical Sony Ericsson fashion--which is basically convenient and simple to use! Its light and comfortable to use when calling--texting is also a pleasure with really nice buttons! With 3G capability--video calling and features like Video DJ,Superb MP3 player featuring M2 Micro cards with flash transfer and not to mention games that are PS1 Standard this phone for me deserves 6 stars! I have waited a week before posting this review and tested its battery life and it has not disapointed, 8/10 in this section! To think this phone is just 100UK stg is staggering honestly the best 100 pounds ive ever spent on an item! Get one! U cant be disapointed! Well done SEricsson, they are streets ahead of Nokia and Samsung for me!

I got this fone about a month ago on Vodafone's student mobile service dotmobile. Im really happy with it, it looks great, plays music great and stores heaps of songs pictures and messages on it. I even got free speakers on the dotmobile student package. Great Picture resolution, videos are extremely clear. MP3 style headfones with built-in handsfree kit, very easy to use. The phone to computer software is amazing and you can browse vodafone live for free, only pay a small fee to download videos and games. Great network and great phone, i definately recommend it! Especially on dotmobile for students. its a bargain!

I got this phone for christmas, and before i got it i decided to look at the reviews on this page and was very nearly put off. howevever i can say i am really delighted with this phone, it looks great and in my opinion it looks better than most of the walkman phones. it has the same capabilities of the walkman range, if not more, and it is generally cheaper. vodaphone live is great with really fast (and free) sports news, plus good extras such as free film reviews and downloads. the sound quality is really good, and i got a free pair of speakers which makes it very listenable in the house because the speakers are loud. there are a few let downs, such as no flash, the camera quality is not quite as good as other 2MP phones and i have experienced once or twice the echo call effect, but not very often. i have not used 3G, radio dj or mobile tv but i can only presume these would make the phone even better.i bought this phone for £120 of the vodaphone website and it feels like day light robbery as it is a phone with 2MP, 256MB memory provided plus phone memory, free speakers, good service from vodaphone, very light and easy to use, and great extra features which are awesome such as face warp and video editing. top marks

I would love to say it works too, but it doesn't, well, not always. Generally rings people when it pleases - and I mean upto 8 times in an hour! And when I am on the phone to somebody, it will generally start to sound as though I or they have called a fax machine (that horrible screaching noise, and this might be halfway through a call!!! All this added to the fact that it managed wipe all my contacts for me - TWICE. Avoid - but don't go for the equally bad W810i instead.

It may not have as many features, but all the features WORK! And it 'starts up' very quickly, the battery lasts ages. The only thing I miss from my previous phones (pre-Nokia N70) is the flash for the camera, but I was only able to choose this on my price plan. Definitely recommended!!!

I LOVE THIS PHONE!! This is one of the many fruits of Sony Ericsson, building on their T610i design, bringing a range of UNBEATABLE PHONES!!!! (The only problem is theyre all virtually the same). The bluetooth version of the Sega Tennis is absolutely awesome (but i spose that only appeals 2 kids (like me!), it's light, much hardier, and the speaker are LOUDER than the expensiver W800i, and W810i's that I see around alot, and its absolutely supercharged with 3G-The usual, plus telly, Radio DJ!!! (The only problem is with that is I live 10 Miles away from any 3G coverage =[) This phone is absolutely awesome, but theres only one this that baffles me about it- its only availiabe in Black/Orange or White/Orange, which are now S.E.'s signature "Walkman" colour schemes, it has a similar MP3 player on it, so why not change it to "W630i"- plaster it with "Walkman" logos, and I bet it wud sell tonnes more lol =] There are only very few tweaks to this fone I would make- a FM radio would be nice, a flash, plus an infrared port for sharing files with less fortunate friends... I chose this phone over the K750i, which my brother had bought for christmas, but I couldnt resist the pure brilliance radiating from it. PS, Gary (comment below), the K800i is one of Sony Ericssons leading phones, costing well over 200 quid, so why compare it (AND SWAP IT!?!?!) with a much more affordable jobby????

Since the dawn of man (well since 1994 anyway) Ive been a committed Nokia man...with a slight misguided sway on one occasion to Samsung, but the less said the better about that! I have a Nokia phone for work but am changing jobs so wanted to get my own phone before I actually changed. However, Nokia didn't have anything that really blew my skirt up so I defected and went to Sony Ericsson. I bought the 630i on a bit of a whim...I liked the fact it was white. However, I was not to be disappointed. The quality of the phone, the clarity of the screen, the ease of use have confirmed that this phone is ten times better than anything Nokia can produce. Ive had it for five weeks with no problems, and cant find fault with it. If you're considering a new phone, BUY THIS ONE! My partner (also a committed Nokia freak) bought the Nokia 5500 Sport on Saturday. What a load of ****! In fact, its for sale on eBay if anyone wants to buy it! ive persuaded him to change to a Sony 810i and although he only bought it this evening, he loves it!!!! Sorry Nokia, your phones just aint up to it anymore!

I actually quite like this phone my friend had it and i used it for 1 hour, it's quite good and i like the navigation buttons (much better than the joystick) the down side is no flash the shortcut functions on this phone are useful and the fact you can multitask (e.g. Listen to music and take a picture at the same time or writing a text is really helpful there are a few minor problems but it does have 3G maybe SE will release a newer version that has flash and who knows it might have a better camera!

It is with great sadness that i have to give such a good phone only 2 stars. Why? Just 1 day after i first switched it on i pressed the phonebook icon only to receive a white screen. After 5 seconds of nothing but a blank white screen the phone switched itself off. It also started getting incredibly hot. You wont be wrong in thinking you've read this somewhere before...just scroll down and there is another review not too dissimilar to this one. So could this be a fault in the V630i line? Well, i took my phone straight back to the Vodafone shop. Luckily there was no hassle and the chap went straight into the stockroom to get me a brand spanking new V630i. Only time will tell whether this one is any good but in the meantime i will tell you about the features. The camera is really good quality at 2mp, ok its not k800i quality but it doesn't have the k800i price tag either. The mobile TV is excellent quality too and video calls are simple and easy to do. I haven't used Vodafone's heavily advertised RadioDJ yet but in my opinion this phone should of had a dedicated FM radio. So, all in all this phone should have been 4 stars (excellent phone) but instead it is a measly 2 stars. It was nearly only 1 star but Vodafone's excellent customer service gave it the extra star. It is such a shame that a good phone like this only receives 2 stars, so beware...this phone looks good but it hides a fault.

I'm now on my second phone. The first one locked up 3 times before it was replaced with a new unit. The new one has only frozen once. The phone is great appart from that, good size, weight, battery and features. Phone works well with the BMW bluetooth most of the time but sometimes has to be stitched off and back on to get a connection that works. Both units know the other exists, they just fail to communicate sometimes; bluetooth! Supplied software is not bad once it stopped fighting my antivirus software but it's not as good as the Nokia suite.

Well my friend has had this phone for about 3 weeks, after recieving the phone it worked fine, no problems but after about a week he could not acess his phone book and things just started to go wrong he took it back to vodaphone and replaced it, however this has happened 3 more times now. Has anyone else experience similar problems, he has now given up with the phone and wants a different model, i don't blame him!

Got this a week ago and so far I've been impressed. The sound is fantastic and reception is strong, although the battery is a little weak; you have to take into account the advantage of 3G. Not much woried about the camera, get a proper one for taking pictures, that applies to those who moan about picture quality! Compare to Nokia, this is great value for money. Got a 256MB card included. I won't get bored with this!!

Had this phone a couple of weeks and it is perfect, does everything I wanted and is reliable with good battery life. I had bought a Samsung D900 which I loved but the bluetooth wasn't compatable with the bluetooth built into my BMW so I took it back to the shop and they recommended this phone. Easy to use, light and nice looking!!

Some of the ratings on here nearly put me off getting this phone. I can only assume some folk are in a bad reception area or they've just been unlucky, or are just miserable, It does everything you would expect and more. The only downside is the speakerphone but they're generally pretty grim on mobiles (although I've only had used them on a couple, but they were both rubbish). All told I would highlt recommend this phone.

Always been a Nokia girl, but this year for my upgrade iI was advised not to by chap in phone shop, he offered me the Samsung Z400, what a piece of junk, battery life rubbish so I went back to the shop and another chap suggested the Sony V630i. What a fab phone, really easy to use, I love it, battery life fantastic, goes for about 3/4 days without needing a charge, ringtones loud and clear, plus software included to download own songs, good memory plus memory card too!!! In stitches over face warp photo mode too, very funny. Will not go back to Nokia now!!!!

Been using this for about 2 months and on the whole seems pretty good. But.. Bluetooth is unreliable (compared to Razr) Occasionally locks itself and just clicks and pops through the speaker. Most annoyingly, sometimes the speaker stops working and you can't hear it ring. A reset fixes all of these, but shouldn't be necessary!

I have had this phone for a week. And I love it. It's so easy to use, really well thought out I think. I really love the Face Warp application, you can take photo's of your friends, and there faces change to loads of different shapes and deformaties. it great fun, we where in stitches for hours. I like the camera, the photo's are sharp, and the music options are so varied. Great little phone.

I chose this model as a replacement for a K750i which was stolen by some piece of lowlife. Didn't want to learn a new menu system and as this was the only SE Vodafone would offer me I didn't really have much choice! Anyway having had the phone for 1 week here are a few of my thoughts. Battery life, call reception and voice clarity are all excellent. The display seems a little brighter and sharper than the 750i (to me anyway). MP3 playback, texting all good. No flash on the camera which isn't a huge problem for me but might be for others. Data transfer from PC to handset via USB is much much quicker than the 750. Not had a chance to try out the 3g features yet so can't comment on these. No built in FM radio -you need to get this service from Vodafone. Not impressed with this at all. Overall a decent, light, reliable little phone which does exactly what its meant to with the only real drawback for me is the lack of a built in radio.

Previous Phone was a Nokia 5140, and I wanted a phone that was a Walkman type phone .. inc a radio. Earmarked the v810i but then vodafone direct in their wisdom took it away, so settled for the v630i - almost identical but no radio.. Excellent phone, easy to use mp3 player and has the loads of storage (1gb card are cheap!) Easy to use and navigate. Good Battery Life and calls are clear. Only things against it is no radio, and i've got a bad feeling that the arrow buttons might give up after a years use of so.. hope i'm proved wrong. Overall a great little phone, nice and small too!! Highly Recommended!! Ethan.

NICE LOOKING PHONE - SHAME YOU CAN'T USE IT !!!! I recently upgraded my Sony Ericsson P900i phone via Vodafone to the new Sony Ericsson V630i approximately 3 weeks ago. We have only had the phone for just over 2 weeks and the phone has only been charged only twice. Today the phone got extremely hot (boiling) to the point were you could not handle the handset, the phone then flashed battery low - it then cut out, leaving me unable to use the phone and contact anyone. Luckily I took the phone to work today and it was on my desk at all times, as I hesitate to think what may have happened if I had left the phone at home ? Has anyone else experienced these problems ? If so, what can we do about it ? Kind regards Miss P Hill [Editor's comment: return it to the shop and ask for a replacement]

I have had this phone for 3 weeks now and for me its absolutely brilliant. Prevously i owned the nokia n70 on orange which was buggy, blurry and accepted calls when it wanted to, so i got rid of it damned quickly, changed network, and got the SE v630i the vodafone version of the k610i. sure the 2 megapixal camera doesnt have autofocus, if thats what you want, get a digicam, and no you cant use any headphones but a quick trip to a mobile or sony shop will get you a better pair than those supplied (which are fine btw). Calls are clear and crisp, texting is a doddle, 3g is speedy, music downloads and mobile tv is a bonus, camera is good enough for fun snaps. A definite 5 stars
