The Sony Ericsson P800 is a multimedia phone with an integrated digital camera. It has a large colour screen with a pen-based user interface, making it appear much more like a PDA than a conventional mobile phone. The TFT screen has 4096 colours, and is of high quality, although it easily scratches.

The Sony Ericsson P800 doesn't just look like a PDA, it has many PDA-style functions. For example, its email manager can be synchronised with Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes, and can handle attachments including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. However, it also has polyphonic ringtones, Java games, multimedia capabilities and of course the camera. Now replaced by the Sony Ericsson P900.

Hi Tara, to use music stored on your PC, first make sure it is either in MP3 or WAV format. If not, there are many programs available to convert audio files to these formats. The lower the bit rate you select for this, the smaller the file will be. I think the largest Memory Stick Duo that works in the P800 is 128mb which won't hold that much music. When you get your P900 I believe you can use a Memory Stick PRO Duo up to 1 gigabyte in size. All you do is dock and connect your phone, open Windows Explorer, and then the contents of the P800. Then drag the audio files from their location on the PC to either the internal or external (Memory Stick) memory. Once they're in the phone you can rearrange them.

I love this phone. I got a new Sharp with my new contract and couldn't get on with it so went back to the Sony. The touch screen is soo cool and does absolutely everything you need it to. I will be getting the P900 when i renew in February. Only thing is How do you put music from your PC on it? I've had it for 18 months now, never had a prob - ever and it works like the day i bought it. Buy the extra bit to sit the phone in to link to the PC - that's a fab idea & i use it loads.

Anyone who doesn't want to keep buying new flip covers can replace the little tabs that inevitably break off. You need a CD, a tube of super glue, a mini hacksaw, a small pair of needle nose pliers, a small flat file, and a clamping device. Clamp the CD securely to a tabletop with a little bit hanging over the edge. Cut a small piece from it about the size of the tab that fell off. File one edge smooth, and file the vertical surface of the flip where the tab came off. Use a strong light so you can see well, and pinch the new tab with the tips of the pliers. Apply some super glue and stick it on, but be careful to maintain the correct distance from the tab to the flip's surface. It's critical. Practice a few times with the pliers before you apply the glue. It may not last forever, but if you do it right, you'll get a few more months, then you can do it again. Or, buy a P900 if you have more dough than me!

I've had this phone forover a year now. Great features and loads of downloadable stuff like handy day (fancy organiser) and handy safe (keeps personal info in secure way) but SO very bulky anda real pain to carry around. The flip broke after about 11 months but doesn't bother me. Cannot hear the phone if its in your bag or pocket. Camera is OK. Good features are bluetooth, MP3, expandable memory, loads of software available. I'm looking for something a lot smaller now.

Had this phone nearly two years now (longer than any other) and it's never let me down. Much more durable than it's given credit for, and very expandable also - it's stood the test of time as both phone and PDA for me.

I bought this phone in July 03. Just before the warranty ran out, there was a major software problem. I took the phone in and the complete board was replaced under warranty. Exactly 1 year later, the same problem has occurred (immediately after I went into the service centre to get a new cover put on the phone, as one of the hinges had broken) - and when I wanted to get the problem fixed, they told me in Singapore that the board had gone and it wasn't worth fixing, as it would cost me $800 to repair! (This was after they had had the phone for 3 days, and only after incessant chasing on the phone.) This phone cost me $1000 just 2 years ago. The service dept has been totally unhelpful and I will never purchase another Sony Ericsson phone. You don't expect something that you have spent so much money on to last such a short time! Imagine if the board had gone 2 weeks after the warranty the first time, instead of just before? The service agent told me "These phones are only made to last about a year". So my recommendation is don't buy Sony Ericsson.

Simply a great phone. PDA very good, touch screen a good feature. MP3 in a class of its own. Camera and poor quality flip the only downside. Flip of poor quality and damages easily. Camera poor in low light and strong sunlight. So many features it will keep you busy for months.

I totally agree with all of the positive comments about this phone. A P800 that I bought 12 months ago was blacklisted, so I decided to look for another phone. Having scoured the market, nothing (even now!) comes close to this PDA/phone. So I bought another one! If you can live without 3G (which most people can), you can't go wrong. The power of a laptop in your palm.

In all fairness the P800 is a reasonable performer but like all technologically precocious gadgetry the phone requires time and perseverence on behalf of its user to reveal the aspects that made the phone attractive in the first place. Yes it's relatively large, yes it's relatively heavy but after three years I've no major gripes with its useability. Initially it reveals itself as being, operationally at least, highly intuitive, but further probing uncovers so many features that blind intuition is no longer sufficient to maximise its potential; like it or not you have to read the manual!!! In all the time I've used the phone it has never locked up on me, but sometimes it does take an irritatingly long time to figure out exactly what it is supposed to be doing, even when to me it may seem patently clear. On one desperate occasion however the phone did take it upon itself to wipe clean all my data, but phones such as these are like offspring, they don't come without their im perfections, a fact that can be overlooked with a healthy dose of humility. In short, if you want a phone for idiots then don't buy a P800, but if you are prepared for some hardwork and tolerance then I really cannot see what more anyone could expect from a Phone/PDA. If you're the kind of person that REALLY makes use of your Phone/PDA and expects perfection then you'll be perpetually disappointed irrespective of whichever model you choose to buy, therefore you may as well go for one of the least imperfect models available. Buy a P800.

I have owned the P800 for almost 2.5 years and the best feature I have found is the battery life is absolutely incredible. After such a long time of daily continuous usage, you would expect the original battery to falter, but this battery just keeps going on for days. Naturally, using Bluetooth for hours in the car for GPS purposes, I keep the phone plugged in. Other features of the phone are also excellent, as stated by most authors. I have not felt the need to 'upgrade' to the P9 yet as there is not a significant improvement and like most authors, I will wait for the next giant step in this generation of pda/phone.

I have had this phone for about a week now, it is really good, i'm @ uni and initially wanted to buy a PDA but then thought HEY lets buy this thing instead. Worth evey penny and has many outstanding advantages over a normal mobile phone. Well done sony ericsson, well done.

I am using this phone for more than 2 years and I love it. I keep thinking of upgrading my phone to P910i but neeah. I am going to wait few months as Sony might -just might- release a newer generation. The P800 has a very bad camera and I never used to play music (I assume it sucks!!), but it is great phone/PDA. It might seem pointless for new buyers to get this phone when there is a P910 on the market. Over all I the P800 despite the fact the flip is fragile and failed when subjected to pressure. I am keeping my P800 until Sony release its newer phone from this series, whenever that is. P.S. I mentioned all the negatives because they were few; it is not humanly possible to go through all the things I love about this phone. Any one else thinking of an upgrade

it's one of the nicest phones i ever had. my p800 is just a swap from my previous phone, nokia 6600. for me p800 is much better than 6600 because it is touch screen, pda and you can transfer files from computer..wide screen and you will enjoy playing games. mp3 is also good. but now i will switch and swap it to Sony Ericsson K700i. buy p800! it's nice to use!

this is a rather good phone when it came out it was the best phone in the world better than any blackberry at the time now it is old and is still one of the best phones out there every time i pick up my freinds phone i keep touching the screen and they say what are you doing and it is because the screen on the p800 is so soft and good to use i personally cant use buttons now i now own a sony ericsson p910i it is a much better phone than a p800 but the p800 has more crurves it feels good in your hand and has loads of unique and distinced looks and has everthing you ever need on a phone mp3/video playback/jotter/internet/calenda it even has a control pannel which is impressive and lets not for get the camara or communicam it is just a brilliant phone full stop.

Well, i like the phone, my only issue with it. BIG ISSUE. very very bad signal strength... its horrible. also some people have a hard time hearing you, specially when you are in the car... The phone is selling for 200$ in canada, for that kind of money, you cant go wrong,, but i wouldnt pay much more. if you dont need the CAM or MP3, get yourself a balckberry.

It's a little sad to see some of the negative comments here; having had this phone for a year on contract, I liked it so much that when I got the next free contract phone I gave that to my girlfriend, and kept the P800. Why? Because nothing else compares to it, aside from the P900 or P910 - and even they aren't worth the extra. The P800 was one of the first cameraphones, and it was also the first phone to truly be "smart", in my opinion. This is a device that is just as much PDA as phone, and genuinely excels in both departments - in fact, the combination of the two in one package is far greater than the sum of its parts. It's a great contacts manager that also lets you call/sms/mms or email your contacts directly with the stroke of a pen - stick that in your ipaq. Far from being big, this device is SMALL, far smaller than the phone and PDA it manages to replace entirely. The convenience of having everything you need in one pocket is fantastic - once you've got to grips with one of these, you'll never look at anything less. The P800 is businesslike, and fiendishly clever, but it's fun too. The polyphonics are great (any old MIDI or WAV file off the web can be used, no paying for ringtones here) and the VGA camera is good, if not the best in low light. There are a huge number of Symbian apps available for this phone - allowing you to do pretty much anything from edit Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) to play a game of Lemmings. Even supposed "missing" features - like a video-camera mode - can be downloaded and added via 3rd party apps. There's simply no limit to the expandability of this device, or it's "communicator" credentials - I don't just browse the web through Opera on my P800, I help to maintain parts of it with my FTP client, Telnet to my web-server, and chat to friends on MSN at the same time. Physically the P800 is fun to hold and use, and with a bit of practice the stylus and built-in handwriting recognition work very well together - you won't need any other input method, although there's a "virtual" qwerty keyboard as a fall back. The flip down phone keypad is excellent in my opinion, acting as a quick and easy way to switch quickly between traditional "phone mode" and PDA, but can be removed entirely if you prefer - leaving that nice big colour screen out in the open. Despite some of the comments here, I haven't found that screen very easy to break or scratch, even after eighteen months - but then a little sensible care goes a long way. I won't be parted from my trusty P800 till the P910 gets a lot cheaper (ie free) - in the meantime it remains both the best mobile phone, best mp3 player, and most useful little PDA I've ever owned.

Reading some of the 1 and 2 star reviews above it's hard to believe I have the same phone. Some must have been just plain unlucky but the rest are obviously idiots ("Dis phone really sucks") As for the phone not ringing when the headset's attached - read the manual or check the phone settings, it's configurable. My minuses would be that the handwriting recognition mixes up l, space and t, and that the pale blue colour scheme is insipid; otherwise it's a great phone and far better than the Nokia 3650 I bought it to replace.

Great phone man, just picked it up. Internet is simply great and is three times the speed of a nokia 6600. Battery stand by excellent. the camera is however is a big let down. Feel as though you are shooting in the dark all the while. Picture reseloution compared to the 6600, nokia is bad. With all the features and the kind of money you are paying, you sure will miss the camcoder. Apart from these aspects, this is simply the phone you must have. It is a companion and you will never know how time flies. MP-3 is out odf the world, very user friendly, great blu tooth, hand writing recogniser is simply good, MMS is fast, screen is is heavenly, but delicate. In a sentence to describe the phone- its a must have if you know the importance of technology

I've had this phone for a year and a half. I cannot do my job without it. I use it to organise my life. I use the notepad to draw rough sketches and then download them to my PC to finish them off. The qwerty keyboard makes predictive text redundant. It even has a calculator that looks like a calculator. Oh and it has a reasonable game of chess, which was the main reason I bought it. And I can use it on a plane. And I can make notes on all my clients. Basically it is my PA.

I don't know who the heck supplies the other guys their P800's! I bought this phone last week, WHAM!!! I was more than impressed! At first, I thought the screen wasn't really that clear and I have to admit even the 7650's resolution is better than this one. But, what the heck! I'm not a photographer who takes pics all the time. I bought this phone for it's organizer and PDA funtions, and its worth every single penny i bought it for. The flip is sensitive and needs extra care in handling. Even though it's bulky, you're packed with features:) I wouldn't ask for anything in a phone that this one doesn't already have! To excellence!

Well... I bought this phone because I've always wanted one since the day the came out... For the first few weeks it was in a class above its own... I was able to surf the web via opera, was able to download many videos, take pictures and even install programs/games on it... Mt favourite being LEMMINGS! ( A classic ) The orginal converted exactly as it should be and works nicely on the small screen. After the initial firsdt few weeks to a month of using it the novelty wears of and I find myself going back to a T610 simply because the P800 is just too big... Plus my flip has since broken...so I have to use the virtual flip, which is slightly displeasing... To sum up if you want a phone to bring with you on long journeys like going on a train or an aeroplane ( turn phone onto flight mode ) then this IS the phone for you... But if all you want is a simple easy to use phone, that is small and has many features I would reccommend the T610/T630. No i wouldn't reccomend the K700i REASON: I said SMALL didn't I ;)

the 2 sides plastic tooths keeping the flip keypad slightly lifted from the lcd breaked so now any number i digit all the buttons are pressed at once making this phone useless, i know other 3 people with this phone and all had to buy a new flip, this is a manifacture defect and the Sony-Ericsson customer service keep avoiding to talk about it, i am in the way to take legal action against them and i would like to find other people interested on it, PANETTONE98@YAHOO.COM

After swapping this from a T610, the initial excitement of having a flashy phone was a novelty. However..... soon after having the phone, the flip broke, swiftly followed by myself losing the stylus (ok, that;s my fault i know!). It is too bulky and runs out of battery too quickly. Being a hardcore Nokia fan, i was disappointed that it did not have t9 and the fact that the alarm would not sound unless the phone was on led me to being late for numerous days of school! Overall, a lot of money for a lot of rubbish!

DO NOT BUY, STEAL OR EVEN THINK OF DOING EITHER!!!! This phone is a complete waste of time due to the size, bulkyness, flimsyness etc. I bought this phone yseterday and returned it yesterday due to the whole thing packing up. firstly the flippy thing broke, and then i lost the stylus, and to wrap it all up the screen packed in and corrupted my sim card!!! What more could go wrong!!! The fact that i had a nokia before made it really annoying because that had predictive text on and this didn't. You would think when you fork out an arm and a leg for a phone you would at least expect it to have this!!! There is no point in having all of the features it has if you don't need it for work, and you will only realise this after the first hour of buying it, please please please take my advice if you do not want to waste your time, and worry about having it stolen.

P800 is an amazing phone. got good features...Pros; wayyy cheaper than P900 and P910i, got touch screen interface, got great applications, got big screen for better viewing of pix,videos and gaming, got virtual keyboard(for those who doesn't need predictive text it's good), mp3 and video playback is good enough, no problem in syncronizing with my pc, good reception, good UI, fast internet access, and etc. etc. Cons: only 4K colour and quite wide to handle for a girl lyk me.

This phone is really good for the features. GPRS is ok for basic emailing and IM, will improve by 2005 on nxt revisions. I had a nokia 6310i, which i still think is the best business nokia phone to date based on battery life, design, ease of use & reliability even though you cant surf net other than through wap. So when it came to upgrading there was only p800 else it was a step down. i got it, only to find out the p900 came out week late but was very expensive. Initially i had a bad battery with it, but this was minor. pros - screen size is good - quite expandable memory wise - gprs is good on phone (esp coupled with opera browser) - pda functions work just fine - can store lots of txts - handwriting recognition is brilliant - Alarm + rings are loud cons - screen could be better(p900 has improved screen color) - vga camera (this too is a let down) - keypad abit sturdy (improved on p900) - battery life is 2 days (or sameday if use gprs) - basic software included + trouble getting pc to work with it initially

Ok, bought p800 because I don't want to carry a PDA, don't need predictive texting so qwwerty keyboard excellent. Poor reception on T-Mobile, so getting O2 sim and unlocking it. For those who say ringtone is too quiet- try the "Old-Fashioned" tone- scares the **** out of people. None of the other tones come close for volume. I wanted to download my Outlook contact book info, but P800 doesn't allow Category based address book detail, so I can't get just employees, for example. I also wanted to download daily an Excel spreadsheet of clients, but it's too small to read on the screen without scrolling up, down and across. Too laborious. I was trying to get away from carrying peices of paper, and this phone just isn't good enough. Apart from that, the only fun I've had is storing pictures of zoo animals so they come up when my colleagues call in... That's gotta be worth the money! By the way, the Ericsson Bluetooth headset is great!

It was very difficult for me to purchase a phone that will suit my needs and my personality. i was choosing between nokia and sony ericsson products. i was then a nokia user for quite a while but i got very bored with the phone and then i tried one of the SE products which is the T610 and upgraded it to T630. those SE products rocked my world BUT... i have decided to get a phone which is near complete to my needs. accidentaly, i saw a Nokia 6600, 3660, and a SE P800 at a mobile store. but on such comparison... P800 got my heart. it's all complete, a mobile and pc on your pocket! although the screen resolution is only 4,xxx colours but i think the other features just let me forget bout the resolution...but all in all it's a very good phone. but of course if you want better than P800 you can go for P900 or P910i... but if u have a limited budget go back to P800! Thanks for reading...

I can not express with words how I adore this very smart phone, and I appreciate who rated this mobile fairly (5 stars outstanding), I advise everyone wants to buy this mobile to read their reviews, coz it's very usefull. And for the others who didn't understand this mobile and gave it bad rate, I say ...Brilliant P800 smart phone for only smart persons...

Since I purchased my P800 in July '04 on my 15th birthday I have hardly left it alone. I love the looks of it, it easily the best looking phone i've ever owned and nearly the best looking i've ever seen. The endless applications and software available make it an unparallelled machine along with it sibling, the P900 and P910i. The games are 3D and fantastic. I've just put on a Camcorder which is of good quality, despite it doesn't record sound. The nonces saying 'wah wah wah it's too big' are imbociles, the size is just fine. It may be wide but I personally don't care. The Camera in my opinion is near perfect (despite the lack of zoom) and concidering this phone was released 2 years ago is spectacular. The video playing is fantastic and the MP3 music player is great. It also has hand writing recognition software that is better than most PDA's i've used. It also has Bluetooth and every other connection type, infra-red, cable to a PC or Mac, email, MMS and SMS. One of my mates who fancies himself just got a Nokia flip phone, we sort of argue regulary because the P800 is better than his, even after it cost me £220 and his cost over £350. He is really jealous. (If anyone else agree's that Nokia's are rubbish along with any brand of flip phone email me on scotay_se1@yahoo.co.uk). My brother is also jealous, his excuse for my £220 P800 being better than his £300 Motorola is, 'It's a PDA wah wah wah' (p.s. it's a flip phone to). I am hoping to update the firmware on my phone soon so it can have an even better camcorder, bluetooth and organiser functions. If you are thinking of buying one or can't stretch to the price of a P900 or P910i, I highly recommend you buy a P800, i promice you be disapointed. Thanx for reading!

Can't beleive some of the comments. Although superceded now, the P800 wraps so much up into one package. How can you complain about the size? If you want a small phone it will have a small screen...The P800 screen works well for it's intended purpose. Handwriting recognition is superb and renders T9 obsolete (on this phone). Had mine in my pockets for over a year with flip removed and no scratches or other damage. Looks like there are quality control issues which gives patchy reliability for many people. For me it's been great.

Great phone, does most things very well.Does crash every so often but like all technical equipment switch off/switch on and everything is OK again.Photo quality compared to Nokia is not fantastic but good enough.Simple to use but a little large but I suppose if you want all the goodies you have to have a lump in your pocket!!

I must have been one of the first cell phone and PDA users in SA and have owned numerous models over this lengthy period.I've never experienced anything close to the amount of frustration from any supplier in any industry that would be even remotely comparable with that of my communication with Sony Ericsson South Africa.My main complaint centred around the scratching and the breakdown of the polymer coating on the screen after just 8 months of usage.I was told by an arrogant,ignorant and un-knowledgeable call centre employee that the phone is purely a cell phone and not a PDA. The other functions are just extras.In otherwords you're not supposed to use the PDA functionality too often because the phone is not designed for such use and the screen will deteriorate rapidly making the phone redundant.Is there something wrong with my interpretation of their marketing strategy?Perhaps I got it all wrong.Next time perhaps I must just buy a cell phone and a separate PDA.That way I ge t a far more compact phone and a PDA with a screen that last's longer than 8 months.Interestingly, I now use a Qtek product that manages to do both functions perfectly without screen destruction.The Pocket PC operating system is also an absolute gem in comparison to the P800's Symbian OS.My advice, stay as far away from Sony Ericsson products as possible.If they don't improve their customer relations and product support, there increased market share is going to crash out giving way to other more customer orientated competing brands.

Phone works(ed)ok, reception is better than some have reported. Flip keypad is too flimsy and broke after 10 months. Touch sensitive screen has now packed up after a year - phone is thus RIP. Keypad buttons are too small and dialling is awkward. used with the flip open or off things are much better (using the "stick"). Outlook and synch with PC works ok and has been useful a few problems on network when refused to synch for a period but got better! (no apparent reason). Will probably go back to Nokia for my next phone, overall disappointed.

Biggest overhyped piece of donkey excrement I have come across! 1)microphone is TERRIBLE, often getting complaints that my voice volumn fluctuates even under normal usage. 2)sms is a pain! no predictive text. The handwriting recognition SUX! try getting your 'i' and 'L' correct is near impossible 3)the speaker is very soft. If you keep your phone in a pouch or bag or in your pocket, you will have to be in a library in order to hear it. 4)Once you insert the headphones, the phone auto goes to silent without the ringer ringing. so Pluging in and driving is impossible without sticking the plugs in your ears. 5)even low end LG phones have better speakers and sound reproduction! Waste of blardy Marney man. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

All it's features are absolutely outstanding and deserve six stars......but the absolutely bloody downright pathetic screen (in terms of 4K colours and the delicate nature) is enough to knock a few stars off.....look before you buy.

for me P800 is very useful but it SUCKS!!!! had a problem with the call volume - it retains in zero level. I brought it to Sony Ericsson Service Solution but they havent repaired it. My advise is that if youre thinking of buying P800 then dont! I guess P900 is better

Absolutely amazing phone, does everything you'll ever need. Phone reception is fantastic, loud speaker is brilliant for ringtones you'll hear in a noisy environment, PDA features are amazing, the amount of downloadable content on the web is unbelievable. As an organiser I can't think of anything else you could possibly want. The mp3 player is also great quality both through the loudspeaker and especially through the headphones. The camera is far better quality than I expected although the phone's screen doesn't do it justice, you have to upload the photos to your PC to appreciate them. The one major problem is the lack of predictive text. The qwerty keyboard and the handwriting recognition are great pieces of technology, and potentially faster than predictive text if you're writing a big essay, but if you want to write a text message to someone while walking down the road it's not very practical to flip the phone open and take out a pen and start writing.

What a terrible phone!! I bought this thinking it would be so useful as it was a pda and phone in one! The signal strength is poor even tho I live in London. When I make a call people can't hear me even when I am talking. Sometimes my phone will ring and there is no one there later to find out people have been trying to contact me! The final straw came when it seized up completely and after 30 minutes switched itself on and announced it was corrupt. It then wiped every piece of data off. notes, addresses, phone numbers, messages, pictures etc.. all gone! Never will buy a sony ericsson ever again. And as for T-mobile..well the less said the better...

My husband, Anton, got his phone 2 May 2004. Within a month, but unfortunately not within the first 7 days, at the bottom of the screen (LCD) a half-moon appeared and slowly enlarged. We took it back to our service provider, Autopage, who said they've seen this before, and sent us to Ericsson (in VodaWorld). They've also "seen this before" and sent us to Ixia (where it is to be fixed). After two days I learnt that it will cost us R1663, no reason as to why we have to pay except "It is damaged". My husband is not a brutal man; he's a responsible, professional man and did nothing to "damage" it. But now I'm told they are VERY delicate and even opening and closing the flap or using the stylus can damage it. I'll pay, bring it back home, and put it on the shelve with my grandmom's antique glassware and look at it, because that is all purpose it's useful for. It's just possible that I'll have to pay another R1663 in another month, if used for what it is said to be used for - a cel l phone and PDA!!!

Some people get faulty ones, which is not surprising seeing as it is as complex and diverse as the best pda but you get a phone on triband with it. Those people who complain about predictive text have not studied the phone or given it any time, coz the phone is not for idiots! Give it some time providing it functions and learn how to use it, and u will never part!

This 'phone' is absolutely amazing. it does everything you would ever want and then more. There are literally thousands of third party applications and more are still being developed. sure it may crash on the odd occasion but who can say their pc or pda has never crashed on them! Much better value than the p900 (i got mine for £140!) and basically the same phone. Anyone thinking of buying this phone should go and get it NOW!

What a nightmare I've had - I've had non-stop problems with my P800, abysmal reception compared to my wife's Samsung phone on same network, my phone shutting down without any reason, very tempramental usb syncronisation, bluetooth (less)is crap, and settings for the internet & email keep dissappearing. I'm off to try Handspring Treo 600. Wish Samsung would stop messing about and bring out their Palm PDA/Phone. What a load of overhyped rubbish!!!

When I bought my phone in Asia over the summer, I was very impressed with the style, feature and color, unfortunately the internet T-Zone service thru T-mobile,I could not get my email from AOL. Called T-mobile several times, called sony several times then had the sony ericsson updated my phone to the latest version of the software still could not get my email thru the TZone.It is giving me a wap error which is my WAP configurations. I checked carefully and they are the same nothing changed. I actually gave up on the AOL service, not sure if T-mobile or sony knows what they are doing

I bought the SE P800 back in Feb 2003, since then I've been to the Sony Ericsson Service Center about twice a month, I've swapped 4 or 5 Handsets. When i first got the phone, the problem was that some people coudn't hear on on their phone when i was on the line, when that problem was solved, I had another problem where the screen began to flicker and now I encountered another problem, my battery jumps from half full to 1 tiny bit left within a 1 minute phone call, so I thought it would be the battery and went to buy a new one. Now both my batteries and phone is with Sony Ericsson again, I was so much happier with my Nokia 8310, hopefully the P900 would be better.

This phone really is superb, there's just so much you can do with it. Poeple saying it is useless are wrong, they need to give it abit of time so they can get used to the inter-face. The features of this phone are near unbeatable, and if you shop around you can get it quite cheap. I got mine off ebay for £205. But, a word of warning, this phone is fagile and the screen needs to be taken care of!!

What a nightmare I've had - I've had non-stop problems with my P800, including losing all the applications, being unable to use my HBH60 headset, my phone shutting down without any reason (ie full battery), camera not working and settings for the internet & email keep dissappearing. Coupled with all this, 2.5 hours in the shop on the phone to Orange CC and they tell me to drive 100 miles to their repair centre as they can't diagnose the fault. Both Orange and Sony Ericsson have been absolutely useless....I'm off to buy something else. What a load of rubbish!!!

I bought the P800 to do e-mail while out and about. I used to have a hanspring visor PDA with IR connection to a mobile phone and decided on an impulse to upgrade to an all-in-one unit. I am delighted with the P800 - I've used it faultlessly for e-mail in the UK and abroad. I didn't even know it had a camera till I got it home, and never wanted one anyway, but now I'm hooked! Have been e-mailing photos of my travels like some kind of crazed teenager. Choice of text entry methods is OK, but the virtual qwerty keyboard keys are a bit on the small side and the handwriting recognition gets confused with tapping the commands of the screen, but I'm slowly getting the knack of it. Whoever mentioned that it is a shame there is no predictive texting is SO missing the point - no-one in their right mind would type a text with the numeric flip-pad when there are much easier alternative ways to enter text. I LOVE the MP3 player, another unkown feature. I later splashed out and extra £45 on the 128Mb memory stick and it holds hours and hours of music (especially when ripped at a lower bit rate) Shame the P800 can't be used with regular earphones - only the hands-free kit supplied. There is the built-in speaker which isn't bad for a phone, but not exactly hi-fi. To the person who couldn't use the memory stick as they have no slot for it on their computer: you don't need a slot for it, it is accessible as a mass storage device when the phone is connected to the computer with the cradle (or presumably with Bluetooth or IR, neither of which I have used). The range of downloadable software is nothing remotely like that available for the Palm or Pocket PC systems, but having trawled through loads of Palm software in the past, I have always be hugely underwhelmed by the usefulness of any of it. Maybe I'm missing out and it's a boy thing. Overall, I'm thrilled with my new P800, a doddle to configure, great for mobile communication and enough sillyness to entertain on journeys. The jog-dial is worth the learning-curve. The niggles listed are minor.

Where do I start on just how bad this phone is. 1. C**p reception. 2. Rubbish size, way to big for your pocket. 3. Touch pad screen has finally given up the ghost. 4. NO customer care from Ericsson. 5. If I had my time over again I wouldn't of bought this phone. I certainly won't be buying an Ericsson again. The one good point about the phone is the interface with my PC, can't fault that, but they really need to attach a phone that actually works to this.

This is by far the worst phone I've ever owned. Couldn't agree more about the poor reception qualities. Around central London and Manchester I can hardly get a signal. Sony Ericsson's customer service is very poor/non existant. It would appear that anyone with a P800 is just a Guinea pig for the P900. DO NOT THINK about purchasing this handset. The only thing that was mobile about this handset was when I threw it back at the shop assistant. (Who by the way was aware of the problems but hadn't bothered to tell me, good job I returned it within 7 days of receiving it!!!) Please Please Please trust me don't buy this handset it'd useless.

This is most probably the best thing i've ever invested in. Lack of predictive text doesn't bother me; like a previous reviewer said it's practically obselete with the handwriting recognition. There's an app that gives you predictive text on the virtual keyboard. It's not that big, and it's not that heavy. I'd rather know it was there than always having to check my pockets when i'm out. The first few days i had it, i thought it was manna from heaven. i've had it exactly 3 weeks now, and i've noticed a few minor things, some that have been mentioned. Not that it makes the phone bad at all, the only thing that'll beat it just now is the p900 (which isn't worth upgrading for at the price it is just now). The gripes. video playback's only 15 frames per second, which is 10 short of the conventional 25. it's not really noticeable unless you watch music videos, and the drumming/strumming is a little unrhythmic. the docking station to the pc is a fabulous idea, but it doesn't really transfer much faster than bluetooth. the bluetooth profile... well, unlike every other SE there isn't really a bluetooth profile, rendering some rather cool SE accessories such as the fabulous car-100 http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/en/products_accesories_car100.shtml redundant. which is surprising to me considering it's such a top-end phone. everything else i love about the phone, from the colour scheme to the chess, but most of all the versatility of the phone. killer apps i use: ogg vorbis player (better than mp3 at half the file size); chess (pre-installed,); widescreen video (on later software versions); tracker v3 (like having a mini operating system on the UIQ OS); Agilemessenger (for using msn/icq/yahoo/aol messengers); NetwIRC (IRC on the phone! amazing); Opera (disable picture downloads to save those Kbs, fabulous app); QuickOffice for my lecture notes - can view & edit word, pdf excel; Tube/Falk (city navigation apps, the latter has a free trial for london); Strategic Assault (command & conquer for the phone)... as i said i bought the phone 3 weeks today, i haven't found every great application out there. If you're looking for a smartphone but wanting to budget a little, the 3650's not a bad option. If you shop about though you'll get the p800 for the same price - i did - which is a class above. if you have plenty money the p900's the natural step up, but i wouldn't have anything else but the SE PX00 series

5 handsets later Orange finally agreed to swap the phone for a different model. They agreed with me that the model was incapable of getting a good signal around Manchester, and other areas of the UK. Doesn't bode well for those other poor sods out there though. Customer care at Orange was terrible though, and you can definatley forget about trying to contact Sony Ericsson. The Bluetooth fetures on the phone aren't much better either. I've got a Parrot C3000 in my car which I got upgraded to accomodate the phone (V1.3) and it was no better than the original, my old T39 worked a treat, the P800 is a waste of space. In conclusion, DON'T buy a P800. DON'T go with Orange.

Three days ago I bought the P800, meanwhile I have returned the phone to the shop after spending a lot of time getting it to work properly. SonyEricsson sells in Asia a P800 with an English/Chinese version of the OS, which represents a major problem for the none-Mandarin speaker. The P800 OS is more Chinese than English. Firstly, even when choosing English from the settings, one can only find Chinese characters deep down in some sub-menus. There is no choice between English and Chinese for handwriting recognition under text selection in the settings menu. It is either Chinese or none. One could manually change for each imput (e.g. sms, calender etc.) from Chinese to English via a very well hidden setting in each individual application but the phone always falls back to Chinese recognition after some time. The SonyEricsson service center I visited personally was incompetent and not very helpful. Finally after a long morning of playing ?Spanish Inquisition? with them I found ou t that the phone couldn?t be set permanently to English handwriting recognition nor could the feature be installed, SonyEricsson is not willing or able to flash the phone with a pure English OS and does not supply any other OS version in Asia. In addition the English/Chinese OS version takes up a lot of memory. SonyEricsson claims that there are 9 MB of free user space before adding any memory expansion card but not so with the P800 I bought. There were just 2.5 MB of free memory left, shown under system information. So beware, if you buy the P800 check for the language first, especially the handwriting recognition, not to have a bad surprise later. Apart from the language problem it is a nice high tech toy reasonable in size, weight and with a lot of features. One should be aware that buying such a device also means to compromise on certain aspects e.g. quality of pictures is now match for any digital camera, storage capacity for mp3 files is limited even with expansion card. But if one needs mp3 player with a lot of storage capacity or high-resolution camera it is better to buy a dedicated device. The standard applications such as contact details, activity list or calendar function are reasonable but not outstanding. Attaching a picture to each contact is a nice feature. The blue tooth headsets are just cool and expensive. Unifying so many different features in a small device is well done allowing for some compromises. However there is room for improvement. The lid of the battery compartment is rather fragile and I doubt that it will withstand normal wear and tear very well. The stylus attached to the side of the phone can easily get lost and is more like a tooth pick than a stylus. Actually compared to Palm & Co. the stylus is bad design. Finally SonyEricsson should have included in their desktop software an easy to use tool to load data from Palm based OS for all the users that might switch from Palm powered devices. For the not so tech savvy person it is a cumbersome exercise to get the data onto the new device. For its price it was just too much headache!

I bought this phone for its contact list details and the fact that it was also an organiser and a phone all in one. Bonus games, and MP3 player which I haven't worked out how to use as theres no slot in my computer for the memory stick adaptor. I emailed the sony ericcson helpline and never got a reply. I have never managed to catch a call unless I have the phone in my hand because the volume is way too low.

I read all the reviews here up to the 22nd of September, and I was really confused over what phone to replace my useless "Motorola A830" (on 3) with. I was stuck between the T610 and the P800. Having gotten used to the A830 for about 4 months, I preferred to have a phone with similar features (MP3 player, Bluetooth, Triband, organiser, etc...) so in the end, I went with my instincts and went for this beauty - P800. And boy, am I glad I did. All I can say to those who gave the P800 bad reviews is "bad luck". But then again, I would think that for some of you, the P800 just simply had too many features for you to handle. Since taking delivery of it 4 days ago now, I can truly say it's the best phone I've ever had. I thought I would never leave Nokia, but now, SonyEricsson have done me proud! My favourite thing about it is being able to listen to MP3s, while playing a game of chess, or perhaps sorting my phonebook or organiser out on those Loooooong train journeys! Its only cra shed once when I was browsing a website - probably my fault as I kept clicking different buttons! It's a phone after all. Who can honestly say Windows has never done that!? lol I urge those who can, to get this phone. The features out do ANY OTHER phone on the market right now.

Ring tone not loud enough. Can't hear it in the street or in the car with the stereo on. Used to have the Nokia 9110, and that was bloody loud. The vibrate is weak - cant feel it sometimes and there is no predictive text on SMS. Also, there are no phone profiles which is standard on all Nokia phones e.g meeting, silent, loud, office. But the synchronisation wiht Outlook actually works well. Anyone know how to get a really loud ring tone and also profile software? mpringuer@yahoo.co.uk

This phone is amazing i am well into gadgets and i love a phone that looks good and sounds good and this does both the only real problem i have with it is the screen is easily soiled fair enough a quick wipe with a soft cloth does the trick but u shouldnt have to do that every 5 mins i had a nokia 7650 before this and again loved that phone apart from the crashes and slow software. i wouldnt give up this phone for anything well possibly for the p810/p900 :)

At last, I've found the phone I've allways wanted. I've allways found text entry on the number pad on other phones very slow and cumbersome and dreamed of having a proper keyboard but Sony have gone one better with the handwriting recognition. If you see my review of the t68 you'll see I had alot of problems with it crashing but I've not had this with the P800. The only problem I've found so far is the battery doesn't last very long, but considering what the phone does you cant really blame it. One tip for using the internet - The Opera web browser is on the CD that comes with the phone, install Opera and then go into Preferences from the Edit menu. Go to the Display section and untick the Load All Images box. This will make your webpages load quicker and use less bandwidth. For another tip on saving money when using this phone with the internet see http://www.jokes4mobiles.com/misc/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1062799178&archive= The phone is connected to a PC via a desktop USB adaptor, you can then use an explorer type interface to drag files to and from the phone. The camera does the job well but is a little out of focus at the edges so you cant use it to get decent photos but I dont think that is what it is intended for. It's fine for portrait photos. All in all, this is the first time I've got a new phone and not been dreaming of what to get next.

This phone is the best. The only thing it needs are complete profiles and a 65k colour screen. For all those who complain about the lack of T9 predictive text input, there is no need for it on this phone. Predictive text is used for phones that have the standard keypad and is used to make it easier than multitap to get the words you want quickly. Because this phone has a touch screen with handwriting recognition there is absolutely no need to have predictive text. Just write what you want. Also, if you can't be bothered even doing that, which I found so easy, then select the pop-up keyboard and just tap the letters you want in directly. So don't let me hear anyone whinging about the lack of Predictive text, is is obsolete on a phone of this type.

Terrible phone - no spell check or predictive text. Keyboard and text writing really difficult to use. The software supplied with the phone was faulty and they refused to supply me with the new software. It is big and bulky. The features are great for synchronising with the PC and outlook - really quick. But I still passionately HATE it

Well, the P800 is an excellent fone in all aspects. Features:lest just say, mobile choice magazine said "if the P800 doesn't have it, its probably not worth having." need i say more. OK, it is a bit big but it has to be for a proper touch screen....other wise we wud hav a scribble pad like the NOKIA 6108........ as far the durability goes....mines fallen thrice...... once from a height of about 4.5-5 feet onto a hard marble floor... and its intact so...... Jog-dial is amazing for one hand use..... And all the ppl who say they dumped this beauty for a T610.....well thats just personal choice.....if they settled for a T610 tht obviously means that they didn't need/use all the features of the P800(which is why the T610's features satisfied them) Triband, Bluetooth, Camera(decent quality), Video/audio playback, internet, wap, jotter, and lots more with memory stick duo slot what more could one want in a fone...... in my mind this in un doubtedly the BEST smart-fone.

Far too bulky. Menu system difficult to navigate. Touch screen becomes annoying when you want quick access to SMS etc !! I had this phone for 3 days.......3 days too long i hate it !!!! Going back to shop this afternoon for a T610 !!!!

I've had the P800 on the Orange network for 6 months, this is my review. Its a great phone overall but to save you some time, if you don't need the PDA type stuff on your phone then don't bother getting this as it is large for a phone. The jog-dial is a God-send and the email client works really well to pick up messages over GPRS, very good to use as a wireless modem (bluetooth), the calendar, to-dos etc can be synced with Outlook nicely. MP3 quality through the headphones is excellent, doesn't sound 'tinny' at all. The symbian OS is excellent - the user interface is intelligently setup and the main screen shows lots of info in one go If you need a fully functional phone including multimedia and PDA ability then no other phone gets even close and by the looks of things its gonna be this way for at least another year. Two things stop me from giving 5 stars, the lack of T9 (bloody unbelieveable) and although you can set it to silent and/or to vibrate, there's no proper implementation of profiles (like Nokia's) There are rumours that a P810/P900 successor will be out in the next few months, it might be worth waiting to see what happens. It's everything you need. It gives so much convenience compared to other phones. Every feature is really a WHOA! My God! It gives everything you ask for a mobile phone SE P800 has an excellent quality! Can you still ask for more??? Beat that!

Early adopter of P800 and what a god send. Took sometime to get things configured properly (e.g. eMail / GPRS) but once sorted this phones does everything I could ask for and loads more. Call quality excellent, address book excellent, camera quality good enough for news letters, audio (MP3) excellent, browsing good but not fully compatible with JAVA, SMS and eMail a doddle with the superb hand writing recognition - much better than competitors, good calendar, good games, ring-tones basic but can use real music, plenty of good downloadable apps available. Doubt it's bullet proof so if you're not prepared to look after it, buy a rubberised phone. Camera sometimes hangs requiring a reboot, as does OS (Symbian) occasionally, haven't found a compatible video download site yet so can't judge it's usefulness for this, but we are talking real leading edge and you have to take the rough with the very smooth!

What a piece of junk! i used to have one but changed to T610 instead. Much better in every way except the Audio/Video player and the Flight Mode. But who needs those kind of things. Buy T610 NOW!!

Had one now for a fortnight, can't understand why folk are having difficulties with the screen, look after it and it's OK, dropped it twice onto carpeted floors from 1m, survived OK. Crashed a few times with downloaded apps (AND OPERA browser, java isn't good from Opera!!), and haven't had a chance to link it into a bluetooth network, but seems promising. MMS excellent, camera excellent, email excellent, GPRS excellent.

Nice features, poor durability. Dropped the phone once from a height of perhaps two feet. Screen is now completely useless. What good is having a great phone if it has no resistance to damage at all?

ehhh i need to buy one p800 ..not easily available in gulf area though i am turkey but its expensive in here,the proce diff is almost 400 dollars from cuntry to country,so far i have read the reviews for this phone and its the best phone that wat i have seen from the reviews.
