In a nutshell: A lightweight 3G phone with a classic design
and a broad range of features, including a 2 megapixel camera, a
music player, an FM radio, and a memory card slot. The fiddly keypad
isn't the easiest to use however, and battery life isn't great either. Best buy: *Free* from Three

(Silver & Black).
Review:
May 2008. Updated January 2009.
Honestly
this is just another clone phone from Sony Ericsson, who are becoming
rather lazy churning out nearly identical mid-range 3G phones. Available
in Wine & Black, Lime & White, Cyan & Black or Silver
& Black. Very similar in design and specification to the K530i,
K630i, K770i,
and W660i, this one loses
points for having a naff keypad, poor battery life and a mediocre
camera.
Features
of the Sony Ericsson K660i include:
2 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom
Video recording & video calling
Display: TFT LCD, 262,144 colours, 240 x 320
pixels
Music player with MegaBass
FM radio RDS
PlayNow - download music and games to
your phone
TrackID - record a few seconds of a song
and get track, artist and album information
Personal organiser functions (Clock, calendar,
alarm, calculator, notes, tasks, timer, phone book)
Vibration alert
Flight mode
Memory: 32 Mbytes plus Memory Stick Micro
support (up to 4 Gbytes)
Connectivity: Bluetooth, USB, modem
Internet: WAP, EDGE,
HSDPA, web browser, RSS feeds
Quadband GSM plus 3G (UMTS 2100)
Size: 104.0 x 47.0 x 15.0 mm
Weight: 95g
Talktime: 4.5 hours (3G) - 9 hours (2G)
Battery standby: 330 hours

The software is very, very similar to a K800 and that got top reviews.
The only real difference is the slim body and lower quality camera
as the cost (and extra Skype support the K800 didn't have +mouse
pointer on the web). I can't see why this is rated lower here, as
these are the only real differences. [Editor's comment: Are you
kidding? The phones are very different. Look at the camera! Look
at the keypad!] In fact I copied my k800 themes over. On 3, this
was 100% stable. Since moving to Orange it did lock up a few times.
It turns out the settings they sent were to blame as they don't
directly support a K660i and i got K600i settings :-(. If you delete
all these settings and send the k800i ones from the FAQ section
on their site (MMS and internet), it won't freeze again. I just
got one for my wife in a different colour. These knock out around
£60 now. I find it very good on signal strength. Often people visit
my house and can't get an Orange signal but I can (worst being my
Mum's Samsung). I wanted a longer life battery so got a third party
one and get about 10% more which is 2-3 days with a few hours of
calls and odd texting. I'd prefer longer and this is the only down
side. Using 2 batteries is the solution, leaving one in your bag
for backup if you are out and about. But 3 days is not that bad. Rating:

I had a number of problems with my previous phone freezing all the
time and needing numerous software upgrades. When I went to the
shop and all I asked for was a reliable phone - I didn't care how
many pixels the camera had or what the game features were like,
I just wanted to be able to make calls and send texts. I was assured
by the sales assistant that because the K660i was a pretty simple
phone (not particularly impressive camera or music function) it
would work fine. The phone has been a complete and utter let down.
It freezes constantly requiring me to remove and reinsert the battery
to be able to turn the phone on again, it turns off for no reason,
needs charging most days (even though the one thing it was supposed
to do well was have a long battery life), it switches to Emergency
calls only frequently, again requiring it to be turned off and on.
The small keys aren't a problem as I saw the size of the phone before
I bought it, however the fact that not a day passe s without something
going wrong with it is a problem. I would advise anyone thinking
about buying this phone to consider it carefully. It's incredibly
frustrating. Rating:

ugly and I am not going to use them. I previously had sony ericsson

well, one thing's for sure; this phone is not for idiots. TO SOLVE
RESTARTS: there's a very very helpful site called SOny Ericsson.com
that lets you download another software called Update Service for
free. What it does is (when downloaded) is update the firmware of
your phone with the latest firmware version, where majority of the
bugs like restarts are already taken care of. It says on the Sony
Ericsson site (as in clearly stated) that if you experience restarts,
the best thing to do (and should be the first) is to update your
firmware. Unfortunately and funny enough, majority of users don't
know that, because even though they can access the Internet, they
don't know how to use it properly and maximize the millions of information
scattered all over it. THIS PHONE is underestimated. Period. It's
not meant for insatiable consumers, but for users who have lots
of common sense and knows want they want from a phone and chooses
wisely. Rating:

loud, better with a headset but still not that loud but music quality
is great, love the style as well as it looks so expensive and features
are high tech for me specially browsing music and photos... batery,
is just fine , just having a hard time beacause u have to maintain
to clean it as it was a glossy phone but its alright i love cleaning
my things because it reflects me...sms is also great, not like other
phones that u have to browse and look for ur friends or important
text messages, because for example if ur friends texted u a lot
of times, they have their folders, all there text messages will
be in one file only not being scattered all over ur inbox so u will
not have a hard time to look for the sms that u nid to read again..
over all, i love this phone and so far im contented with it... i
still cant use the internet because my network still dont have the
settings for this phone but its ok, i can wait... keypad is not

thinks that those who doesn't like this phone should just sell it
and get a new one. :) I mean, why complain and put up with it when
you can just go back or search the internet THOROUGHLY for the perfect
phone for you? That's why there're reviews like this, so that if
you're so picky with phones you won't be criticizing phone models
that prolly weren't meant for you in the first place? :) @we the
keypad didn't deceive you. it's been round even before you bought
it. you prolly have big fingers, so it hurts. you should've had
enough sense to realize that the round buttons won't be too convenient
for you before you paid for it. get a phone with giant keypad!!
@collin yeah, not the phone's fault. the specifications for this
phone is shown in detail in the sony ericsson site. you should've
read that. Blimey, sales clerks aren't all techy people, so they
prolly don't know much about a phone's features. if you want a super

hmm.. looks like lots of either bad units sold or .. **** users.
anyway, I've had mine for almost two months now, and I haven't experienced
any of those problems. The camera really is mediocre, but, didn't
say it's meant to be a camwhore's best pal right? What I love most
about it is the design. Yeah, I don't have problems with the round
keypad. I find it easy to use and type with; texting is a breeze.
Another is the interface itself. The three softkey is kinda confusing
at first but, it'll take you only a few days or hours to get used
to it. The media player is brilliant. It's Walkman 3.0 with Megabass,
although it's not actually a Walkman phone. You can fast forward
and rewind and the media center's interface is awesome. PSP-style
menu browsing. As for the browser, I havent really tested it yet,
coz 3G signal and HSDPA is rubbish here in the Philippines. BUt
during those times that the connection isn't poor, it's really fast.
Almost like broadband. Overall, since I'm a music lover, who loves
real neat and elegant designs, I love this phone very much. The
media player and the fast browsing speed (HSDPA) is more than enough
to make me really take good care of this phone. But of course, if
you're more into photos and don't give a damn about music and mobile
browsing, this isn't a good choice. For battery problems, I think
you can tweak settings like not having a screensaver, or adjusting
the brightness or power save (Bluetooth) to help with the battery
life problem. For restarts, try updating the phone's firmware through
Sony Ericsson's Update Service, which is free for download from
their website. I bought my phone on sept 2008, and there's already
an available software upgrade. You should try that first. It'll
probably fix the restart issues. Rating:

This phones brill! The Internet is really fast and it is really
easy to text. Also, I don't find the buttons fiddly as others are
saying. I find them okay to use. The only thing that lets the phone
down is the battery life, because if your on the internet and playing
music all the time the battery runs out without even lasting a day...even
if its fully charged before, this is why I give the phone 4 stars
and not 5. I do recommend this phone though, but buy it from the
3 network and not t-mobile. (In T-Mobile is is £180 and in 3 it
is £109 - This is only in the Uk though) Rating:

So although I live in the US, I spend my summers in Europe. And
let me tell you one thing I can't get over is how much cooler my
friends' phones in Europe look. The US cell phone market is rather
plain, if you ask me. No outstanding designs or revolutionary ideas.
A phone's aesthetic design is really important for me. Then of course
comes the features. This one caught my eye as I was browsing cell
phones online. I ordered it the next week, and I am super satisfied.
I love its design & colours (I ordered the white) as well as the
features. The camera's alright, typical cell phone camera. Although
if you're looking for serious quality you might as well invest in
a stand alone. I see that many people complain about the small sized
keyboard, but I prefer it. Battery life is good. Great for the younger
generation- texting, cam, music. Overall, I'm satisfied. Rating:

Ok, so the keyboard isnt the easiest thing to use to start off with,
but you adapt to it after a few days. The camera is amazing for
2 megapixels! This phone is a replacement for my disatrous Nokia
6288, and the camera on the k660i is MUCH better than that of the
6288. TrackID is brilliant! Google Earth is brilliant! The pre-installed
games are brilliant! The user interface is brilliant! (when you
scroll through pictures, they move like they do on the iphone, sliding
away and slowing down) The camera is brilliant! Remote Control is
brilliant! MSN is brilliant! Skype is brilliant! It even looks brilliant
on the outside with it's chrome rim going around. Such a choice
of colours too! (i went with white and lime) One small problem compared
to other phones it that there's no light for the camera. but i think
the night mode makes up for that.. it can make 23:00 look like 13:00!
all this for £109. i know no other device that has all the things
i mentioned bar the iphone. buy it. (i havent said anything about
the internet as i havent used it yet) With my psp for gaming, my
ipod for music, this phone is the medium in the 3 types of technology
i can get my hands on! it makes up for everything those other two
cant do. Rating:

This phone is really good. It has fast internet speeds, and excellent
quality of pictures for a 2mp.Many people complain about the small
keypad. Personally, I found texting no roblem what so ever! When
I went into 3 to buy the phone i originaly intended on buying the
lime and white version. My dad convinced me to get the wine on Black
instead. What a mistake. The wine comes out really pink and it loolk
like a girls phone (I'm a boy). If you are male, go for the silver
and black or Cyan on Black. Female could get any! Just wish it didn't
look as feminine as it does. Good phone. Rating:

I've just received this phone today and from my initial impression,
the design seems to be of outstanding quality - it has a a very
sophisticated and elegant feel to it. In terms of the choice of
colour, I was a bit confused as to which colour I should get - the
options I had were either 'lime on white' or 'wine red on black'
- I was after something a bit sophisticated yet unique and different
to the standard 'black' colour phones. After careful consideration
and taking a consensus from friends and family, I decided to go
ahead with the 'wine red on black' and I have to say, it seems as
though I made the right choice. It suits both men and women, as
the colour scheme is neutral. The 'lime on white' is not a bad choice,
although I would describe it as a bit feminine since it has lime
green around the edges of the phone whereas the wine red on black
version has a silver chrome around the edges of the phone. I would
therefore recommend the 'wine red on black' for men although the
'lime green on white' isn't an extremely feminine choice and is
recommended for people who like to be bold and are not afraid to
be different and unique to the norm! In terms of features, it has
beautiful themes and a sophisticated music player, although the
headset which comes in the package isn't really that good - upgrade
your headset to the HPM-70 or HPM-82 and you will find that the
sound quality is drastically improved. The camera is only 2 MP,
and for me - this is a decline in quality since I am upgrading from
the K800i which was a cybershot phone boasting a 3.2 MP resolution.
The camera quality would be best described as reasonable - nothing
too outstanding but bearable. The internet is a pleasure to use
on this phone and it is pleasing to see that the browser has been
improved with the addition of a pointer and the ability to scroll
across and down and make the appropriate selection. The only downside
that I have with this phone is that it makes, what appears to be,
a 'squeaky' noise when using the keys along the wine red panel -
this may just be a slight anomaly, or the fact that the keys are
new. It's not too annoying, but due to this I am awarding this phone
4/5 for what would otherwise be a 5/5 phone. Overall, I would say
that this is an excellent addition to the SE range of phones. This
product is targeted at a wide consumer range - it is a phone that
is well balanced in terms of features but does the basics very well.
Well done SE :-) Rating:

The keypad is VERY difficult to use, but still not as difficult

as I was about to send a text the phone crashed. It looks like yet
