The Sony Ericsson K500i is a compact and lightweight phone that incorporates a great range of multimedia features: an integrated video camera and a big colour screen are top of the list. The screen has 65,000 colours, which is more than most comparable phones, and using TFT technology makes it very bright and vivid, even in bright sunlight. The screen has a 128 x 160 pixel resolution and is nearly 2 inches across, so it does justice to the photos and videos taken with the camera. Compared with the more expensive K700i, the screen is not quite as sharp, but it's still an excellent screen.

The camera can be activated in one click, with one more click to take a picture. Sony Ericsson's QuickShare™ technology enables you to easily share pictures and videos with your PC or other phones, using email, MMS or data cable.

The user interface has been redesigned to use animated icons, which look cool and aid navigation. The quality and size of the screen help to make navigation straightforward. A five-way joystick is another welcome feature. The speed of the user interface has also been improved since the T610/T630 and now shows no signs of delays or pauses.

The K500i comes with a built-in media player for playing MP3 music and video downloads. Another fun feature of the phone is 3D gaming, using the joystick control and MP3 sound to add oomph to the gaming experience. The 40-voice polyphonic ringtones are better than those on the T630, which uses 32-voice ringtones.

The memory available is 12 Mbytes, which is acceptable but not oustanding, especially for a phone with both video playback and and MP3 player. With no option to expand the memory, 12 Mbytes may prove to be a limitation.

The K500i can be viewed as the "little brother" of the K700i. The K700i is an all-singing, all-dancing phone that is better specified than the K500i. The K700i benefits from an even larger screen, Bluetooth™, an FM radio, and a speakerphone. Nevertheless, the K500i offers a lot, costs less and weighs less. Compared with other phones in its class, the K500i excels! Now replaced by the K510i.

This phone is amazing, it's got a great camera (even though that it will go fuzzy in dark areas but the phone's too good to hate). The games are great, the themes are great, hmmm, anything else i have not mentioned is probably great too!:D. Anyone giving this phone 3 stars or under, i will personally come and put you in a wheelbarrow, take u to a nut house, ring the bell and run!!!

I have to say that I think this is a super little phone, and well worth every penny. My son has bought himself one ( he's 11 years old ) and he picked up straighaway. I went with him to look at phones as he orginally wanted a flip phone, but looking at what was on offer, what each phone could do, the price etc, this was by far the best one out there. At the time, he bought on PAYG on Orange for 80gbp, which was a gret deal. For his age group, which want flashy gimmicks, its got the lot, and it makes and receives calls fine. I've sat anbd played with it, the screen size is great, as well as the functionality. Its aslo much smaller than I imagined it to be, very light, easy to use and at that price - a real bargain. If you're int he market for aphone in that price range, you can't go wrong with this, highly recommended.

Heya i got this phone for xmas its really gd although the video picture isnt perfect but its is ok, the camera is pretty good i like that you can record your own ringtones which is a bonus i like how colourful the actual phone can be! i really recommend this to beginners as it is really easy to use and to younger people because it is great for them

this phone was a £100.00 pound and i thought it was the best value for money phone ive ever seen.it only has 12 megabytes of memory but once you go through the picture files and sort through the ones you dont want,all you have to do is delete them which frees up your memory.ive deleted lots of unwanted clips,sounds and pictures and i have about 25-30 mbytesof memory.EASY

I really like this phone, i got it for christmas. The only problem is that I don't know how to download MP3's onto it. Other than that it is a mega brilliant phone, it's everything you need in one tiny space.

i got this phone a week after xmas, so far i am very pleased with it. being a young person, image ment everything of course, lol. i had to have the best lookin phone, obviously! but not just the look appealed to me, a few of my friends have the T610 (i think)and that is better than most of the ** new ** nokia, motorolla phones out! the only down side to this phone is the small battery life and the texting, it takes a long for a letter to come up, but maybe because i'm not used to it! all in all however i am v. please with this phone and for £90 i'd say it's worth it! gudbye xxx

Agree with da rest of the reviews.. this fone is amazin - it has a camera, which gives u gr8 photos and vids, 3D games, an MP3 player (wuld sum1 tell me how to get mp3s on2 it please lol .. not wrked it out yet lol,)and PLENTY more stuff! What more culd u want, and u can get it all for a v low price!?!

Hello i got this phone for christmas and i havn't stoped playing on it, its so good has video and the camera quality is outstanding! its small and fits in my pocket it sounds and looks better than the K700i so im happy if people i looking for a cheap good looking easy phone i reccomend this one because its fantastic!!!!!!!!

i got this fone for christmas and have loved it since. Have plenty of pictures and still have 10 meg space. so stop moaning cause it aint got bluetooth and by it its one hundred squid where i come from. so what have you got to loose.

this phone is amazing. the loudspeaker is very loud and sound recording playback is amazing. the camera is one of the best in this sector. my only problem with the phone is its tiny memory. ive already used up half or it and ive had it for about 2 weeks. othe than that its great. it looks so much better that the k700. i would advises u to buy one. i really would.

IO think that this phone ius really good the camera is excellen and the video is great. I got it on O2 and I think that this is the best deal around. 120 for 20 credit and the phone with new number it is great get or be ashamed.

Actually , it is a very good phone if you compare it to other brands from the performance , capabilities and the price. You can consider it as the last step before Symbian phones as it has MP3 player , cool camera and video and you can to it applications , themes and ringtones. I think I should share this info with you , The specs in the site say that it doesn't contain a speakerphone as the K700i.It is somehow hidden. You can activate the speakerphne while the you are having a call by pressing the Navigation key and choosing the speakerphone from the menu opned

I think this phone is amazing the video quality is good 12 megabytes memory. plenty of room for videoing. excellent ringtones including gr8 MP3 ones! it has everything if you want. Its a decent camera phone and its great if dont have a lot of money. wot r u w8ing 4, GO AND GET 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My sister has just bought this phone and after having a little go with it i can say that it is a very good phones its a very nice shape, has a very small keypad which i like but some people might not. The games seem to be good quality and there is a sort of multi directional pad to use. The camera seems quite good and the recorder good too. It has an MP3 player but we still dont know how to put tracks onto it. The only thing that this phone lacks in my opinion is a radio which i believe is essential. The k700i is perfect for me just a bit too expensive.

i read al the reviews b4 i got this fone i have had it 4 a day now and i love it!! i would absoloutly reccomend it the only small prob is the tiny buttons so if u hav big fingers then its a no no but apart from that it absolouty rocks and i would so so so tell u to get it it is a bargain!!

this is such a good fone! some reviews say it is bad and dnt listen to them i went on this website to see what this fone was like and i bought it yeaterday and i havnt put it down the camera quality is good and you can have unlimited video lengths! you can record youre own ringtones! which is so cool and txtin is so easy (predictive and normal) it looks cool! and the picture is great!! the best ive seen out of all my friends fones! believe me GET THIS PHONE cuz i was thinkin hard about it and i dont regret it at all!!!!

This phone is quite good....camera ia excellent...its much better than t610 or t630 which has a pathetic 2 mb storage...and price tag is just above t630 so dont get t630..its a waste....get this phone with a decent 12 mb...abt mp3 is concerned get a software and just decrease the quality..i hav 8 songs in my phone and still 5 mb is empty...go get it..

Great phone, lots of functions.Having spending my whole life on Nokia phones (and trying hard to find something new and exciting in every new phone i was bying), I see now that K500i has excellent quality, it differs a lot from all those Nokia-junk-phones. As for some ppl that say that K700i is better, i only have to say that my dad owns the phone and it's not such a big deal...My only problem is its' battery-life...too short :(

Having never owned a mobile (yes, there are some of us out there!) I wanted something with a camera phone, loads of features, good looks, great performance and within a budget of £100. I bought this phone for £99 in UK a week ago, and have to say I love it - as well as eveyone Ive showed this to as well. Colourful screen, nice looking easy, fast to navigate menus and a handy joystick in the middle for quick access to everything. The battery also lasts for ages. Just one thing against it though, is the memory size. Its not huge and it will only take a few MP3's before its filled up, so dont buy it for that feature alone, or you will be disappointed, get the next model up with more memory. A brilliant phone overall, crammed with loads of fetaures at a great price :) Thanks Sony Ericsson.

i bought this phone on the 4th and it looks really good camera looks quite clear and sharp. Recording is cool. Slight worry is battery and turning on the phone. However for my usage the battery should be sufficient if not brilliant. This phone gets 5 stars for looks and 4 for features. looking for a cheap good phone i would recommend this!

This is a bill fone. camera, recording, 4x zoom, amazing 3d games, great colour display, and fab themes, only faults are: 1) No bluetooth (but it does have infrared which is good) 2) cant turn off that GOD DAMN shutter sound on the cam. with these two things i would give it 5 stars, hell, if i could just have one of them it would get 5 stars, soo much more to say obut this fone that good, but you'd just have read it all before :)

Initially thought this phone was really good but there's a problem with the microphone. Can't make calls as nobody can hear on the other side except if I use the hand-free kit. In fairness it may be a once off problem but still I'm highly unimpressed. On the plus side, it's really easy to navigate around (I've never used anything but a Nokia) and battery life seems to be pretty good.

Freakin fantastic fone!!! Great 3D graphical interface with wkd themes, gr8 camera with recording abilities, MP3 tones are crisp and LOUD! WAP browser is FAST and easy to use. Why wouldn't you want this phone???!!!

this phone is one of a kind the k700i is no better than this phone its just got a better screen. would you pay £100 extra for a good screen? k500i is a excellent phone the only thing that could be better in opinion is the look of it. this is the phone that you could only wish for its got a great prise as well and the camera is excellent the mp3 player isnt bad either.

This phone is'outstanding! Has a loud speaker, quality sound, battery is pretty good, camera is outstanding,sreen is sharp... Everything about this phone is excellent except one thing, 12MB of free space is drastically low for a phone that has a Mp3 player,video,camera... Other than that I'm extremly satisfied with K500i, for this price you can't get better...

About this phone, I'll had to say "you'll see the quality in the price tag". The cost of this phone was 262â,¬ when I bought it, it was cheap given the variety of features. And it had almoust all the features I wanted from a phone, exept Bluethooth. After using it, I fell in lave whit the big colorfull and bright screen, and the weight, but was confused when I realized the the memory capacity of 12mb is so small, and the connectivity to my own computer was harder than installing Linux on a Win computer.. So I decited that my next phone is gonna be a Symbian OS phone. Shure there is themes in the K500i, and Java *3(haha)D* games. Themes are all alike and games have a 5-7â,¬ price on em'. And I bought the USB cable, and did all acording to instructions, and I couldn't SYNC the phone to my cpu. I allso bought the speakerstand, and eneded up yelling in my room so that the the hole house had to listen my call's. The cons' and the pros': ---------------------------------------------------------- +Good bright screen (exellent in straight sun light) +the weight +lens cap +wap speed, and the Java games +fast operations as a hole ------------------------------------------- -Camera, especially in bad light, grainy as hell -the small keyboard, and the color of it. yak! -video quality -batterlife -the back cover loosing and making sounds when controlling the phone -JOG is lousy -the fact that it's Ericsson -about no softwear to DL into the phone -Call's not connecting and not hearing the callers voice. :S -connecting whit computer ---------------------------------------------------------- The K500i is a great mobilephone considering the price. But in this world of smartphones and integrated megapixel cameras, save ur' money longer and buy a smartphone like Nokia 6630 or 7610. And if ur' into SE buy the K700i. It has it's own waresite 2. :D

Hmm... I'm not quite sure if I like this phone or not... Just bought it, and no doubt is a spectacular phone with lots of cool functions, but ONE thing boughters me ALOT! And thats's its batteri, which I think is awfully bad! Well, thats what I think! Do any of you others seem to be having tha same problem? Anyway my batteri runs low very fast, and that really ps me off, and also becuase it takes 4 hours just to recharge it! So good, but still... hmm...

i think that this phone is great and amazing for the price ,my freind used to have the k700i but i didn't see that it was value for money so i got this one whitch is alot better valur for money...it is soo small and compact compared to other phones ,its great :)

This is a brilliant phone! Brilliant design and very slimm, only 14mm thats just really nice. The funktions and funktionality is 5 stars, easy to use and flashy a display. The fact that you can assign mp3 melodies to your ring tone is way nice! The phone gives a expencive feeling when you hold it in your hand and I am very very happy I bought it :)

I think that da phone is better then the k700i, it is cheaper an have the same functions, a little bit less resolution but it still has excelent picture quality. it crashed twice, once it was my fault, once it iced and i had to get the battery out (couldnt turn it on without getting the battery out), the second time i was doing actions to fast and it just stopped, turned off, turned on and since then works excellent. got it now for 15 days and i just can recomand it, no problem folks. GO GET IT!!! P.S. the sound recorder works great, when playing back the sound quality is brilliant, whitout noise, not as my n3200.

Few days erlier i got k500i the new phone i feel it is a marvalous phone because it is friendly user phone and its working very nice and highly perfect. only one negative point is that it has very low memory (only 12mb)so quite imposible to run mp3 smoothly.

This is a beast of a phone just a shame about the limited choice of messege ringtones, I was wonderin if n e knew how to get mp3 ringtones to work for messeges aswell???????

i just got this pown lyk over a month ago and i am still trying to convince myself that i have gotten myself a fair bargain. it has crisp and clear audio. pics are clear outdoors but doesn't do justice on dimly lit up places. that huge screen and its macintosh behavin' icons are real treat to the eyes. the rest o the features ain't bad at all though i have one extremely important query. --> u see the phone came with a 3MB video/trailer of anaconda 2 film that wouldn't delete as it claims to be a protected file..i don't have plans of living with that useless file embedded on my k500 which apprently eats up a quarter of it's limited 12MB mem.. --> anyone clue me in PLEASE!!!!! HOW DO YOU DELETE A PROTECTED FILE ON A K500i FONE?

Hey Fozzee, the reason it makes the shutter sound when taking pics is to stop pervs like you taking sneaky pics of girlz LOL. You need to get a digicam with a big zoom lens ;-) Cool phone anyway.

Top quality phone I love it. In response to the last review an mp3 can be various sizes but only a very long one would be 12mb!! If you convert your mp3s to 64bit you can fit 5-6 mp3s on it. I can't fault this phone so far only thing that bothers me is i can't take any sneaky pictures of the good looking girl at work, cos it makes that stupid shutter noise which you can't turn off :-( Apart from that I'm well chuffed :-)

Hi, I just bought a Sony Ericsson K500i and found it excellent. Screen resolution is good, screen size and brightness is excellent. Keys are soft and joystick is very easy to use. It has a camera with 4x zoom, video recorder, mp3 ringtones and everything one wants on a funky phone. Go and get it! ***** - 5 Star Phone

this is a poor phone it feels lightweight and plastic camera is poor when compared to other phones and their is a limited choice of downloadable games the only good points to this phone are the nifty joystick and super real tennis game

Well, two stars so far...Excuse me, but this is a question rather than a review. I bought one of these phones last week and whist it seem there's a lot to love... has anyone else had problems hearing incoming calls? I haven't been able to hear people calling me in places I was able to hear calls in with on my old phone, and am curious to know if anyone has had this problem. Quiet environments are ok, but others have been awful (I appreciate crowded bars never work). I was using my old phone last week so it's not just my imagination! thanks, liz

The only shortfalling is that it doesn't have Bluetooth (which is a pain in the ass, because that's one of the things I wanted the most). But hey!... You can extend the length of video clips by selecting "More" on the video capture screen and scrolling down to "Video Length". Select it, and select "Unlimited" on the new screen. You won't be able to send these longer videos as messages though because they'll generally end up being too big.

I got this phone about a week ago and its really good! Its light, its small and has everything you need on it. The video aint the best nut still not bad. This phone is a bargain for what you pay too.

I dont think it video records at all. The K700i does though, which is marginally better but is a little more expensive. This phone looks awesome, i'm getting it on Virgin Mobile with 35 pounds free credit.....woohoo!

this phone is brilliant ive had it a few months now and i love it has a really cool desktop that jumps out the screen when you go on to them.also the camera is fab its amazing ouality, also its got video recording which is displayed good on the high resoulution colour screen this phones amazing go out and get one.

Fantastic phone. No complaints. Ever since i hv bought it, i am very very happy with the phone. Especially, the 3D games... i love it. Polyphonic ringtones are amazing. The K700i had battery problem, looks like they have done away in the newer model.

this phone is amazing if you are looking for a phone with everything this is the one for you. it has an mp3 player takes great pictures and video clips and even has a lens cover for the camera(classy) the buttons glow a cool orange and the joystick is really easy to use, the games are good aswell you can record your own voice and make it into a ringtone or make one up yourself.it is a fantastic phone and you should buy one NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The phones quite cool... Like the fact it has a camera but picture quality not very good, though... Comes out blurry... Video function's quite cool... Can't support some audio files which is quite sad... Love the games... Love the whole power save thing... Very reasuring... All in all, not a bad phone... Don't have to think it over... Just get it!

I Got this Phone as an Early B'day Pressie off my mom. I was gonna get the T630 But I looked at the K500i and Saw that it is better in all ways. Personally I agree that the K500i is better than the K700i except for Memory and Radio. It does Everything I want it too Practically!

Having spent the last few years with various Nokia phones I swopped to a sony t610 last year and loved it. Last week I upgraded to the K500i and have not been disappointed. Quality of sound is fantastic both on calls and on the wonderful radio feature (I've yet to try out the MP3). The menu system is easy to navigate and looks even better than the one on the T610. Ringtones are loud and clear which I always thought was a major problem on my other phone. Bad points (all of them minor except 1)MEMORY STORAGE 2LOW!!: Yes, the battery life sucks and I feel that the phone doesn't seem as well built as the 610 but that was an exceptionally well made phone. Biggest problem.... NO MINI GOLF!!! I loved that game... :-(

I'm 12 years old but am really into gadgets. For my birthday i asked for a cool camera phpne and was givne my SE K500i! I love it! I can't imaging my life without it. The quality of this phone is amazing! And it's so cheap The phone currently on Orange is £129.99 and comes with £20 credit if you go to an Orange shop. I love taking it to school and taking pics of everything. The storage is next to no limit at all and the whole phone package is just totally amazing. The video camera is super! Honestly. it's like using a handhand camcorder. This phone is perfect for all you gadget freaks out there. Okay so it's not a flip phone but who cares when the quality is this good! I honestly think the phone for a the price is a total steal. Honestly buy this phone! I can't live without mine!

Excellent Phone from SE, it has most of the things ppl are looking for these days. Sound is loud and clear, the screen is great qualiy and the battery lasts ages! I would say it's better than the K700i overall apart from the screen and BT, Memory, Radio. Seems twice as loud, the battery is WAY longer lasting as I mentioned before. Only - point is the crampt keypad but thats reallyy it. :)

A really top notch phone! The game Super Real 3D Tennis is so addictive that you forget about going to work or even putting in those much needed oven chips...um...into the oven. The screen is really superb, good photos too (VGA quality). The fact that this phone is the same price as the T630 on Virgin should make you launch yourself out of a canon to the nearest Car Phone Warehouse immediately. Got get it tiger!
