Pixon Review
Review:
November 2008. Last updated September 2009.
The
Samsung Pixon M8800 is an enhancement of the Samsung
Tocco F480. It's a gorgeous touchscreen phone with an amazing
8 megapixel camera. The Pixon is a bit bigger than the Tocco, but
nevertheless it's
a good size phone - not too wide, not too thick, not too heavy -
with a massive LCD display covering nearly the entire front face
of the phone. It's a beautiful screen with 262k colours and ultra-high
resolution (240 x 400 pixels): perfect for viewing those 8 megapixel
photos!
As
the name Pixon suggests, the 8 megapixel camera is the main feature
of this device. Samsung's camera phones have been delivering excellent
results for years, and in fact it was another Samsung phone
(the Samsung i8510) that first broke
the 8 megapixel barrier. The phone is converging with a dedicated
camera design, and packs in loads of camera-related gadgets. Smile
Shot makes sure that the camera takes a picture when your subject
is smiling (assuming that they do actually smile now and again)
and face detection autofocus ensures that the image is as sharp
as it can be. A new feature called Advanced Shake Reduction does
what the name suggests, although we belong to the old fashioned
school that says you should just hold the darn camera steady. We
wonder if most of these features are actually designed to help people
take photos of their mates when drunk. If so, some automatic voice
alerts might help - "Don't point the camera at the floor, stupid!".
The dual Power LED flash isn't a match for a xenon flash, but isn't
bad. One of the cool features is the video camera, which like the
LG Renoir can record at up to
120 frames per second, so you can then play back in slow motion
and laugh at your mates looking stupid. You can also make video
calls using the secondary front-facing camera.
The
large screen is also perfect for running a touchscreen-based user
interface. Samsung have been refining their touchscreen phones throughout
2008, and they're now at the point where this can be considered
a mature technology, suitable for the mass market. We personally
love the user interface, and find that it responds rapidly and accurately
to the touch. Heavy duty texters often seem to have a hard time
with touchscreen phones however, so if you're one of these types,
you should definitely try the phone out before committing to buy
it. Everyone else can enjoy tapping and turning the phone, dragging
and dropping icons and images around the big 3.2 inch screen. Lovely.
In
case you were wondering, this isn't a smartphone like the Samsung
Omnia. So this makes it an easier phone to use, although less powerful
obviously.
Musically,
the Pixon does everything that you'd expect a high-end phone to
do. It plays music in MP3, AAC, AAC+, Enhanced
AAC+ and WMA formats and also has an FM radio with RDS. With 200
MB of memory built in you can store around 50 MP3 tracks, or more
in a compressed format such as WMA. You can also add a microSD memory
card up to 8GB, which provides enough space for thousands of songs.
Like other Samsungs, the Pixon lacks a 3.5mm audio jack, so you'll
have to use the proprietary headphones supplied or buy a Bluetooth
wireless headset.
The Pixon comes with GPS and assisted GPS, which
is an improvement on the earlier Tocco.
This may not replace a Garmin or TomTom, but is a welcome addition,
and can be used to geo-tag photos in case you forget where they
were taken (see our earlier comments regarding drunken photography!)
The Pixon has an excellent web browser. With a
big screen and HSDPA giving download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, this
is an excellent platform for the mobile web, but we're sad that
Samsung didn't include WiFi support in the phone. That would have
been the icing on the cake.
Battery life is worth a quick mention. Surprise,
surprise, it's not that great. But with a phone that has an enormous
LCD display and more features than you can shake an iPhone at, come
on guys, what did you expect?
In
summary , this is a brilliant camera phone with an amazing camera
and a beautiful touchscreen user interface and equipped with GPS
an FM radio and plenty of memory. If you're not bothered about the
lack of WiFi, it might be the perfect phone. If WiFi is a deal breaker
for you, take a look at the LG Renoir,
Samsung i8510 or the Sony
Ericsson C905, all of which have an 8 megapixel cameras and
WiFi. The new Samsung Pixon 12
has WiFi, as well as a range of improvements, not least a 12 megapixel
camera.
Features
of the Samsung Pixon include:
8 megapixel camera with face detection autofocus,
smile detector, auto-panorama, 16x digital zoom and dual power
LED flash
Quadband (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) plus 3G (UMTS
2.1GHz)

Having had this phone for a week now, I feel i've gotta express
my opinion on here. I am totally in love with it. Everything about
it!! Having been a sony ericsson user for the last 3 years it was
a big decision for me to switch to samsung, but I am so glad I did.
This phone is everything I wanted. I was very wary about getting
a touch screen as I am a big texter, (I send A LOT) This was my
biggest worry, but after a day or two it really does become second
nature, the screen is so quick and responsive whilst texting it
almost feels easier after a while. The web browser is also GREAT,
faster than I thought it would be. and the camera and video camera
are both awesome. I honestly have not really got a lot of bad things
to say about this phone, my only real concern is the lock button,
which could have and should have been better and a lot more secure,
but overall its a definate 10/10 from me, I love it. Rating:

I've had this phone for about two months now and I love it! I did
find texting to sometimes be a bit of a chore with the touch screen
but with the T9 dictionary turned off and using it with the full
qwerty keyboard it's fine. Another major postive is that I dropped
it in the sink last Thursday but having given it the weekend to
dry off in the airing cupboard it works perfectly! Buy this phone! Rating:

Why has no one mentioned the fact that this phone only has one "lock"
button, which is annoyingly located on the side of the phone? This
button gets pressed all the time in my pocket, hand or bag, and
many MANY times i have found myself on the internet or calling people
unknowingly! Does no one else suffer from this problem? Other than
that, and the fact that despite everyone telling me texting was
slow ( i didnt believe them to my own detriment!) its an ok phone.

I had this phone for about 6 hours before I rang my operator to
send it back for a different one! I have to admit this is partially
my fault as I previously had an iPhone on O2 and as this wasnt available
on t-mobile I probably expected too much from a different touch
screen. That said it wasnt user friendly at all. I got so sick of
it not responding or selecting things I didnt want too open. Especially
in the phone book. Saying all that - great camera. Rating:

I got my Samsung Pixon just over 2 weeks ago, the phone is great,
it could do with being a bit smaller but other than that I love
it. I dont use the stylus now and fingers are just as good and less
hassle! I have some problems sometimes with the touch screen, when
scrolling through either photos or names it sometimes opens on the
photo or name I touch when trying to scroll, the battery life isn't
great but the phone is easy to use and only took a day to get used

I was due an upgrade and after all the hype about Samsung tocco
i went straight down to T mobile who did me an upgrade to the Tocca.
Disaster no signal!! how? i had and always have had five bars on
my Razr V8 with the same company (best phone i ever had) and now
i was down to 1 or even 0 on the Tocco. I then read reviews and
saw this was a major problem with Tocco so i insisted they change
the phone after all i am going to be stuck with it for 18 months
and changed it for a Samsung Pixon. I had done my research on this
before going back to the store and was satisfied that there would
be no problem with this regards coverage. I rushed home again and
set my new Pixon up, great full bars no interference whatsoever,
however when i connected to webnwalk the battery diminished rapidly,
i had my phone for 2 days and had to charge it 3 times, hmm this
somewhat put a dampner on it, but not to be beaten i read some more
reviews and discovered that if i turned off 3g and used gms setting
it would double the battery life and yes it worked, incidently turning
off 3g does not seem to have any effect whatsoever on the performance
of the phone even when using the web but it does have a major impact
on giving you extra battery life. Even so taking pics or surfing
the web does drain it whatever you do but we also have to make allowances
for the fact we have just bought a new phone and are going to play
with it excessively in the begining so the battery will wear down
more than what we are used to so i did a test on normal use i.e
calls and texts and racked up 3 hours of actual talking and 20 texts
and left the phone switched on in between time and got 3 days battery
life so i cant complain at that but his was on the gms setting and
not 3g. The only fault i can find at the moment is that the address
book is awkward there is no way of picking out a contact without
actually scrolling down the screen and unless you get your finger
movement consistent you end up wit h lots of contacts popping up
that you dont want to dial. Overall i find the phone fantastic,
I bought a lovely leather PdAir case and a Martin Fields screen
protector, for a total cost of £28.00 as i have a habit of dropping
my phones regularly and where i have never actually smashed one
i am certain if i drop this one it will crack the screen for sure.
The screen protector is a must to stop nail scratches etc and you
can hardly tell its on.The case is pure leather and lovely to look
and you can throw your phone in your bag/pocket without worrying
if you will damage it which was a major concern of mine with the
touch screen. Overall i am very satisfied with the Pixon and would
give it a 5 if it the phone book had not been so awkward to use.

Had the phone for 10 days now having replaced a Nokia N series.
I love: Solid feeling, great size screen, menus easy to navigate,
texting easy once you get used to touch screen, huge font size is
a godsend for people like me who forget their glasses all the time,
music sounds great with my own headphones, camera quality is good
but dont be swayed by 8 megapixels, video recording is good, call
quality good, have had no problems with the handset at all unlike
my Nokia. I dont love: battery life is poor, lacks a few features
e.g. wi fi, scrolling through photos is deadly slow, the phone takes
ages to store a picture or to delete one, the phone stores music
and pictures in phone and memory card folders which slows things
down when hunting. I have never had the need for a stylus as all
selectable options are large enough to use without one. I would
definitely recommend this phone to anyone thinking about it. Rating:

I've only had the phone a few days, but so far am absolutely loving
it. It takes a while to get used to (if, like me, you're upgrading
to your first touch-screen) but it's otherwise pretty intuitive
and responds to touch well. The camera is very impressive in terms
of quality, with a lot of different settings for different environments,
though this means you have to think ahead if you're taking photos
in a dark setting, for instance. The camera is also very nicely
built into the phone, with a protected lens that automatically pops
open when you open the camera function on the phone. Internet (I'm
with Orange) is fast and clear, and easy to use. Personally, I chose
this over the Nokia express music after looking at both in a shop,
as this feels more robust and less plasticky. It's not too big -
smaller than the i-phone and easy to hold and use in one hand, and
it's pretty light. My only criticism is that the stylus isn't attached
unless it's dangling off the bottom of the phone - so far, I'm just
using my finger to operate the phone for this reason, but perhaps
people with bigger digits might find this to be a drawback. Overall,
I'm really pleased and really impressed - I suspect the battery
life will improve once I stop playing with it every five minutes,
like any phone. Buy this phone! Rating:

I have had the Phone since the beginning of the year. I have had
to change it 5 times already and still awaiting a new handset to
be delivered. It is absolute rubbish! I have had every problem listed
below and some. The phone freezes, the icons freeze on the screen.
The phone was turning on and off without my knowledge, it was hanging
up on people as I tried to make calls. The latest handset just went
black on me and blue writing came up telling me to BOOT the phone.
Then it turned off and hasn't turned on since. That was after having
it for 10mins. Hence why waiting for a new phone. I am NEVER EVER
getting a Samsung again. If I could give the phone a minus rating

with it. Loved the huge screen and everything seemed to work, except
that the qwerty keyboard often came on without me turning the phone
round. But about 10 days ago I started to use the camera more and
that's when things went wrong. The screen froze with the flash options
on it, and from then on the software has been dreadful. I turned
in off and on again, removed the SIM card (I had to, because it
got so bad I had to go back to using my trusty Sony K800i) then
I decided to give the Pixon another try and lo and behold a couple
of days back in its box seemed to have sorted it out, but no, it
has started freezing again and doing things I haven't asked it to,
so it's going back to 02. It would be a very good phone if the software

nice hardware, the sound quality is outstanding, the screen is huge
but that's all. The software will draw you crazy, nothing really
works, Samsung totally ignored any USABILITY rules. The camera is
really nice (event it has no close up/macro mode), you can take
up to 10 pictures in 3 second with the multi shot mode but it will
take you 15 minutes to delete them in the picture browser app -
worst picture browser app I saw on any mobile phone. Full of bugs,
simply horror. Next, it comes with nice stylus and supports handwriting
but the touch screen is not good enough to make it really work -
after couple attempts you will never try it again. And that's the

you can still see screen perfectly. I have had the phone for a few

because I like to have a keypad so i can text super fast and touch
screen takes ten times longer and you have to really concentrate
when texting. Love the camera! Still not sure if im going to keep

I've had this phone about 2 months now so pretty much know the good, bad
and ugly things about it. Firstly the good, camera is excellent
as you would expect from a 8.1megapixel but more than just that,
the phone has so many applications such as live pix where you can
crop one of your photos on the screen and using the stylus draw
on it or colour it in. The design is good, rather small but feels
much sturdier than the Renior although why Samsung persist with
the stylus dangling from the bottom of the phone I'll never know
(it looks like a mascara pen). It's very easy to use which is good
because the instruction book they give you with it must have been
written in 5 minutes it's that vague and short, and last but not
least it connects to your P.c with ease and that's a first for me,
my previous 3G phones have been difficult to say the least in connecting
with my P.c software. The bad- well although the touch screen 9
times out of 10 responds well there is still that 1 time when you
need to wake it up by pressing it several times before anything
happens and then...you guessed it, it catches up and does the thing
you wanted it to do once several times, I have the phone on orange
and the signal where I live is very hit and miss, sometimes I have
full strength I'll breathe and down to one bar, and for the life
of me I cannot find how to turn off the bleep and chimes that it
bleats out when you touch the screen without turning the phone to
silent. The ugly- Just one...Battery life, I know its a big screen
and it's clear sharp and colourfull but I have to charge it every
day and after a while it becomes a pain...surely if they can develope,
design and make a phone with this much content they can come up
with a battery to support it....still I'm happy with my choice and
would happily recommend this to friends. Rating:

I spent ages weighing up whether to get the Pixon or the Renoir,
but having played with both I happily went with the Pixon. The extra
.2 screen makes a difference for me, particularly when it comes
to texting on the qwerty and web browsing. Pros: Screen is really
beautiful Touchscreen works great - you just have to get used to
it It does have GPS which works with the onboard Google Maps, I
read a ton of reviews which said otherwise, so this was a nice surprise.
Camera is awesome, lots of settings, pictures look great, and the
photo browser is lovely Overall very easy to use. You don't really
need a manual. Battery life is perfectly adequate if you turn 3G
off. I don't even get the point of 3G as everything seems to work
the same without it, including web browsing. I think the web browser
is excellent, no need to install Opera. Cons Sometimes the touchscreen
does things you don't want it to. This is true of all touchscreen
phones though. There are a few annoying 'quirks' when it comes to
texting - some punctuation is in the qwerty and not t9 screens and
it is tricky to capitalise letters in the t9 screen, things like
that. Trivial but quite annoying for texters. I find myself going
back and forth between the two screens. It is kind of annoying that
you can't search for contacts by letter. Overall I love the phone.
It has a few little annoying 'quirks' but these are massively outweighed
by its impressive features. I think the phone is a lot of fun too. Rating:

I had this phone for two weeks and liked a great many thinks about
it: Large, highly responsive touchscreen, fast and efficient interface,
very fast and comfortable text input (despite what many other users
report), and of course outstanding camera and video recorder, with
a great gallery to match. FM radio recorder was also a very useful
feature. I nevertheless returned this phone, for the following reasons:
1. 500 text message storage limit - why oh why do Samsung do this
with all their phones? Text messages use a negligible amount of
memory, yet Samsung insist on imposing an artificial and wholly
unnecessary limit on the number that can be stored on the phone.
Why not let the user decide how much memory to assign to SMS storage,
as almost every other manufacturer does? 2. No apostrophe in T9
input mode. This is OK when writing words already in the T9 dictionary
(you don't press '1' for the apostrophe, it just puts it in), but
new contracted words like "I'm" or "I'd" cannot be used in T9 mode,
and although you can rotate the screen to landscape it doesn't remember
these two letter words once entered. 3. Poor PC software. Doesn't
recognise text messages longer than 1 part (160 characters) so you
cannot use PC Studio to archive messages and overcome the phone's
500 sms storage limit. Bluetooth won't work either, even though
I've had no problems using Nokia, SE, or LG software with my bluetooth
equipment. 4. No themes. You're stuck with the default appearance.
5. Bizarre omission of an alphabetical search option in the phonebook
(the Tocco has this option). You can only filter by first letter
(dragging a magnifier vertically, which is tricky), which often
means unnecessary scrolling if you have than a few hundred contacts.
There is however a separate screen for 'favourites'. 6. Inability
to abort text messages in the outbox (no Samsung phone seems able
to do this). On many occasions I thought I cancelled a sent message,
it appeared in my outbox and I moved it to the drafts folder, only
to later receive a reply to this message from the original recipient.
7. No photo on incoming text message, unlike (non N-series) Nokia
and SE phones. 8. If you have more than one mobile number for a
given contact, you cannot determine which of those numbers you have
sent a message to or received one from. 9. Atrocious battery life.
10. Arrogant customer service. Rating:

mid-day, had second one by 6:30pm, both had pixels out on the screen.
Swapped again sunday for another one (3rd) and the touch screen
looses calibration after a very short while (5 mins) redering the
touch screen useless, and you can't recalibrate it till you turn
off for about 10 mins. Not had enough time to establish battery
life or phone functionality. Will be taking the third one back tomorrow
to Orange. Unfortunately they do not have any left at the mo to
swap out for me as I exhausted their supplied in two days. Apart
from these issues I do like the phone and the large screen makes
a big + point. Just wish it would be perfect out the box like the

Very disappointed with this phone. The proud buttons, particularly
the hold button tend to get pressed when the phone's in my pocket
- twice now it's "switched on" and I can see it only getting worse
as they loosen up. Next the idea of a flimsy plastic cover over
the universal port (charging, earphones, USB) is bizarre. It will
get broken and the lack of any 3.5mm earphone socket is poor. Battery
time is poor - average use and no internet and I'm charging it daily.
More a nuisance but I expect better. Can't seem to change the message
alert tone, the user manual lacks detail. In the hand it doesn't
feel right - maybe it's my big hands? had the phone about a fortnight
and wouldn't really recommend it to anyone. Rating:

I have had the above phone for 2 months now and i only have one
major issue with it. The camera is good though as ever won't substitute
for a proper camera but no complaints. No problems at all with calls
but if like me you use a lot of texts then this IS NOT the phone
for you. I had'nt realised when i got it that texts are limited
to 300kb so most of my texts end up being sent as two or more (once
even 5) messages. It also has a tendency to break up incoming texts
though i'm not sure what the limit is on those. Texting, even when
just sending as 1 message is painfully slow, and we're talking actual
minutes if it's a text that's getting broken into 2 or more messages
and/or going to more than 1 person. The touchscreen works fairly
well though again with the texts, it doesn't seem that response
when trying open incoming texts and have had to tap pretty hard
on many occassions. Rating:

Now, I’ve got one recently and was having rather high expectations
to use it as my PIM gadget, the ultimate device for all my contacts,
notes, schedules and emails. My advice is don’t. Reading on
all the specifications, GPS, 8 megapixels autofocus camera and all,
it was a phone good on paper for a very good price compared with
the others. The plus side is that the camera is so full of functions,
you will have heaps of fun toying around with advance features like
face detection, smile shots and such. That’s all there is
to this phone, a very powerful camera system. GeoTagging of photos,
I took 2 weeks to figure it out. Firstly you have to turn on the
GeoTagging feature in the camera settings. And by accident I discovered
GeoTagging does work. Only after turning on the camera for 3 minutes
or so before I noticed the satellite dish icon showed a 2 bar stable
status and stayed that way. If the icon is in a transition state,
it means the GPS receiver is still trying to log on to the GPS signals.
One does really need to hold the phone high, run around a little
and try all sorts of holding the phones in all imaginable orientation
just to get GPS logged on. If a picture is successfully tagged,
you can see the long-lat information via the info functions while
browsing photos. Loading the image into Picassa/Google Earth is
also another way to know if your pictures had been tagged. When
you have successfully tagged pictures (one out of 15 times), it
could be quite fun to view them in Google Erath. Bringing GPS features
further, using Google Maps, just waiting for GPS to logon while
driving is a nightmare. It is especially a big pain in my *** when
near critical traffic junctions, the blue dot remained very still
on the screen as the Pixon had lost it GPS signal. Which means,
Samsung did a very bad job here, on this GPS thingy. They could
have done better. What about the organizer? One will orgas with
frustration just to make it working. The great Samsung New PC Studio
is truly a software written just to corrupt your Outlook. I ended
up with 800 over double entries in my contact list (both outlook
and in Pixon) and all my calendar schedules were squeezed into one
single day after a synch. I had to spend one whole day just to restore
all my schedules and contacts manually in my Outlook after the synch.
I never want to use this poorly written and untested software ever
again. No way could one trust Samsung in this one. Samsung, they
did a nice product and that’s about it. Cosmetically appealing,
but functionally, very annoying. It’s more of a phone for
the camera and that is the only good thing about it. Don’t
expect good software skills from Koreans. This product seemed rushed
into the market with appealing paper specs to compete with others,
but without much sensible functional testing. Use this only as a
fashion and camera gadget. Pixon - a partially functioning phone
guarantee to drive you mad if you use it for more then a phone (especially
GPS). Rating:

Just upgraded to the Pixon from the G600, after reading the above
average reviews in here. It's a lovely phone to use once to get
used to the hang of the touch screen. I've got fingers like exrta
thick pork sausages and, at first, I kept hitting wrong numbers
when using the phonebook scroll fuction. Once you get the hang of
using your thumbnail - it's a doddle though, and quite enjoyable
too! The manual, however, is just not comprehensive enough. I haven't
installed the software diskette onto my PC as yet, so I'm hoping
there will be some kind of supplementry manual on there? My other
niggle is the fact that you STILL can't change the message tone
if you want to. This was probably the only thing I didn't like on
the G600 and I was assuming that Samsung would have done something
about this - tuts!! I got the saleperson at the shop, to throw in
a self adhesive screen protector which fits on invisably and I'm
assured that you couldn't scratch the screen if you tried to, once
in place. Overall, I love this phone and despite numerous texts
and 'playing' with the phone (much to my other halve's annoyance!)
I have to say I'm not too disappointed with the battery life. At
the time of writing, it's been almost 48 hours since my last charge
and I still have two bars. I wanted to give the phone 4.5 out of
5 just because of the 'message tone' thing - but hey...I can live
with that! A sweet, sweet phone - gorgeous! Possibly as good as
it gets? Rating:

Well well well...I only got that phone today so I cant claim to
know it all to give a full review. The main thing I want on a phone
is a wicked camera, along with with being able to store and listen
to music. BUT here s the thing people, for now I cant help feeling
a bit disappointed with the camera. I had the N95 and serioulsy
the camera seemed better. It could take videos so smoothly I was
so impressed. This one doesnt, probably cuz of the lens quality.
Worried, I tested it against a N95 8GB today, because hey, its 8MP
right? Why did it feel less good than the camera on my N95?? I tested
it and the difference was there man, noticable. This one isnt smooth,
as soon as you start moving it blurs. So little disappointement
at the moment. Everything else is great, touch screen is pretty
cool - less practical for texting though, massive screen...ect.
I need more testing with the camera to confirm it, and this is just
about video, I m sure pics will be great, but my first impression
is that "8MP" is just powder in your eyes, and it doesnt seem to
beat a 5MP Carl Zweiss lens. Oh I tested it against the Sony Ericsson

This is my first time with a Samsung and I would say that the Pixon
is an all-round excellent phone. The large touch screen has a nice,
clear and bright display and it is sensitive. The 8mp camera and
music player is also really good for a phone. The user interface
is easy to use, with simple and straightforward menus and options;
though I think scrolling could have been a better and the method
for searching contacts is poor. I don’t know why Samsung could
not have included the usual simple way of doing this by typing in
the first letter for the contact’s name. My only real gripe
is the battery. Rated at 1000mAh, I don’t feel that it has
the stamina for powering all those functions. Samsung should have
put a higher powered one in, as a phone with the capabilities that
the Pixon has, especially that camera, needs it. If you were to
go out for day and use the phone to the max, power could be out
in less than a day. It seems a shame that, just to save power, yo
u have to resort to measures such as turning off 3g. The phone is
a great multimedia device and was designed to be used. Never mind,
none of the latest phones are perfect, but overall the Pixon is
a joy to use, has great functions and I can recommend it. One thing
to make you aware off: Samsung’s Technical Support informed
me that they do not notify when a firmware update is available for
the phone. Apparently the only way to know is by contacting an engineer
and updates are carried out by taking your phone to a Samsung service
centre or mobile phone repair shop. Odd if you ask me. Rating:

i fell straight into it. the camera is excellent and texting so
simple, i have to disagree on all negative comments as i don't feel
any of them apply, believe me if i can use this phone any one can!
it has everything you would expect and more, i find the phone contact
searching excellent although i will say being a female with nails
helps a lot so i would understand if a man with larger fingers might
find it a little frustrating. but on whole i have been very pleased
with my choice. Rating:

Having had a SE' for many years, I wanted to try something new,
and this little beauty came along. Firstly, the camera is outstanding
and video quality very good. Texting on the touch screen is much
easier than I thought it would be. I love the style of the phone
and it has a good feel to it. Downsides for me are two things. Searching
for a contact in your phone book is a total pain and needs a skill
of touch....and secondly, the reception is a little weak. Getting
two bars indoors, where as on my SE' I would get full signal. But
outside it's full on. All in all I love the phone. Clarity of calls,
volume of ringtones, ease of use, in most things, and a fabulous
screen display all add up to a fantastic phone. Loses one star for
the hiddeous phone contact searching though. Rating:

Recently I have had a number of the latest handsets. In my opinion
the iphone 3g is a great hand set. It has a silky smooth UI and
loads of great internet and music related features. The App store
looks and works great and the phones display is the best out of
the various handsets I have had... But... While the iphone does
a number of thing very very well, basic things like MMS it can't
do at all. Its 2mp camera seems feeble and this is made worse by
lack of settings of any kind and it can't record video, which is
disappointing. Then there was the Omnia. The specs were great, the
features were endless, but with about 3 different ways to access
some of the software and more than 1 type of the same application
available to you (Contacts for example) it overwhelms you and thus
isn't really usable as an everyday quick phone. Its Internet Browser
and Picture viewer are not as pleasing to the eye as the iphone
but thats about it really. The other phone I had was the Sony Ericsson
C905. To be honest, its a great phone with a great still camera
and reasonable video capabilites. However, its tiny screen grates
on you if you're used to life after the Viewty, I now have a Samsung
Pixon and I must say, I'm very please with it. Its Browser and Picture
viewer are a little basic but very function. (I've noticed that
when zooming in on a picture it can pixilated). Its camera is very
good as is its video capability. the flash is weak though. It has
GPS but you have to download Google maps to make use of the feature.
It doesn't seem to be explained that you have to do this, as I spent
ages going through the menus looking for the GPS map feature before
I realised it wasn't on there. If this phone had Opera Browser available
for it, a xenon zoom, a picture viewer correction that stops pictures
breaking up under zoom, and wi-fi then Samsung would have absolutely
sewn up the Touch screen market. In my opinion, these few additions
would have made this phone. Wi-fi aside, perhaps some firmware updates
or downloadable programmes? Not too sure if this is possible as
the Pixon isn't really geared up for downloadable content from what
I've seen so far. My main negative is the very poor battery life.
But that's it! Rating:

Good phone with camera, really like the touch full qwerty keyboard
when you turn the phone long ways when you write a text. Had some
problems as have other i know with the touch screen. Quite often
when you click on an icon or phone number, it selects the wrong
one - rather irritating. Only way to sort it is to turn phone of
and recalibrate on switching back on - have contacted Orange about
this going to see what other handsets they offer. Rating:

letter in your phonebook, GPS can only find my location within 1000metres

its rubbish.. Touchscreen is excellent, so is everything else about
the phone. Shame about the few problems really.. I still like it

own branded software and some features removed. Mine has No google

are changed to Orange style. These are a couple of things i've noticed

Got this phone three days ago and think that it is all that I was
told. The screen is great, it is responsive and the camera is brilliant.
Only thing for me to get use to is when you are looking at your
photos, if you tilt your phone then they start to move as if they
are dropping off the phone. Bit freaky but I will get use to it.

thing that bugs me is all them emotions for texting, theres loads

Had this phone for a week now.. It is absolutely brilliant. A lot
of reviews have commented on the lack of WIFI or GPS sat nav.. so
what?? Get a different phone.. you already know the specs from reading
them so don't leave pointless comments!! Anyway if you stuck WIFI
and GPS on the Pixon then surely Samsung won't be able to sell the
Omnia!? Anyway, the only thing I'll mention is that my battery didn't
last that long (two days) and the signal kept cutting out in my
flat but this was due to it being on the 3g setting. I switched
it back to 2.5g in network settings and now its great. Battery is
still going after 5 days. The only real disappointment is when you
re in the phonebook and you are searching for a name by using the
slider on the left side of the screen. Its too fiddly and you can
easily click on someones details! Rating:

There are a lot of reviews here which are incorrect. I've only had
my phone 2 days, and was in two minds whether to get it or the LG
Renoir because of the negative comments here. But now i know that
a lot of the comments passed are untrue, I know I have made a good
choice with the Pixon. The interface is fast, touch screen accurate
and a pleasure to use, GPS using Google maps picks up a location
quickly, HSDPA internet access is lightening quick, camera is phenomenal,
screen is huge and crystal clear. I've only just started looking
at the phone's features, but so far I'm well and truly amazed. Rating:

I upgraded my nokia N95 and I also have a samsung G600. I have had
my phone for 3 days now and its wicked no faults or disappointments
with it so far. The zoom in and out button at the side is great
for scrolling down and when you write a text message if you turn
it on its side it turns into a qwerty keyboard. I also like the
widgets are quick and easy to use.. My bad I have found one annoying
setting when you are in a call the screen continually locks i have
not been able to find the setting to turn that off. The camera is
ace but I havent utilised it properly yet. On the old samsungs you
could put a password on you memory card this one doesnt which means
that if you want to password your photos it puts it on everything
including videos and MP3 (Dont ask what im protecting..lol)I havent
tried the DIVX yet nor the video in slow motion. The phone feels

Had it a day. Great phone for taking pic and videos. Games that
come with it are a waste of time (trial versions). Agree with other
reviewer about phonebook annoyance - have to scroll to find contact.
Says DIVX playback but it's very picky about bitrate. out of the
10 divx files i put on the phone only 3 worked. Another annoying
thing is phones and videos and photo's aren't displayed full screen.
There seems no option to fit to screen either so you end up with
quite allot of wasted screen space in landscape mode. These gripes
aside it performs well in all other aspects and the camera - the
main reason i bought the handset - is better than my kodak digi
camera! overall a good buy. Rating:

Well i have had my pixon for a couple of days and i love it. Although
it is a frustrating phone if your not used to touch screen. As a
phone it does well clarity is great and the earphones that come
with it are quality, better even than a jawbone headset. As a camera
it is very good although i am still playing around to find the best
in it. the pc software that comes with it is useless i just cant
fathom it out and 7 out of 10 times results in unable to connect
with phone. Music wise it is good and the redio is very good with
clear crisp reception, again the earpiece coming into its own. The
touch screen in annoying in the fact that if you open your phone
book you have to slide an icon down the screen to get to the corresponding
letter to match the name your searching for, it often stops scrolling
and tries connecting to whatever number your finger last hit. this
is maybe just me and still getting used to it. I got mine from phones4u
in store it a £35 pm 18 month contract, the phone was free. looks
wise it is impresive very sexy and the built quality is great with
a metal back plate on it although it is quite a heavy phone its

Having had the NokiaN95 for nearly 2yrs now, i thought it was about
time for an upgrade. I have spent the last month or two, looking
and reading about the new phones out. I.e Renoir and C905. Having
played with both, i just felt they were not up to what i would call
"standard" So went into Phones4U and lucky me they had the pixon
in stock (been very hard to find) So had a wee play with it, and
must say i was SHOCKED at how sexy it looked and felt. Only problem
was the phone only came on O2 and Orange and im on vodafone, so
sorry to say i've left voda and joined O2. Having got it home and
having a proper play now for around 24hrs, i can tell im gonna be
a very happy chappy for a long time to come. The touch screen is
very responsive, unlike the Renior. it does not take 2 or 3 times
of pressing the icon you want for it to work. first time every time!!
The camera is top stuff, im a contacts manager for a building company
so i take anywhere near 20 pics a day, so a phone with a good cam
is a must, and so far im very impressed. Lots of functions, clear
crisp photos and one hell of a flash! brightest i've ever come across.
The stylest you get is very kewl! alomst like a proper pen. Couple
of down points. Transfering Music on to the handset takes forever!!
a normal sized album has taken around 25mins, which is really silly
for a "drag and drop" system. I've not been able to get vids on
the yet. need to find away of getting files on my comp from AVI
to another format (anyhelp welcome) Games on the handset are only
trials. you hardly get to use them, very annoying. but you do get
the dice game, while it has not point! its still funny and shows
how the phone could be used. Viewing pics, now this has really annoyed
me to the point where i could give it back (still have 13days to
decided) when it viewing mode and looking at puics if you tilt the
phone to show someone or even move the phone decides to scroll through
the pics, gonna be hard to find the pic you want if everytime you
move your arm it scrolls...and it does it pretty dam quick. Battery
life looks like it could be on the weaker side. havent had the chance
to see how long it last, as pluggin it into the comp via usb charges
it. You will defo need a bigger memory card. 1gb is far to small
for a phone like this. currently looking at getting 4gb. Overall
I love the phone, its size is good. and feels well weighted. Im
sure this phone will be able to take on the Iphone ...easy Rating:
