In a nutshell: The Samsung Genio Touch is an entry-level
touchscreen phone very similar to the Tocco Lite, but with a more
basic camera and a smaller screen. Better looking than the Tocco
Lite, but with easy access to Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, we
think that the Genio Touch is a great phone and a bargain too. Best buy:
*Free* with free line rental from Mobiles.co.uk;
or £69.90 on Pay as you Go from Mobiles.co.uk
(Black) or £69.95 from Dialaphone
(Black, Orange, Pink or Red).
Review: October 2009. Last updated October
2009.
Samsung's
best-selling phone is currently the Tocco
Lite. But now, here comes the Genio Touch, a curvier version
of the Tocco Lite, with rounded corners and a more futuristic look.
The Genio has a more basic spec than the Tocco Lite, but is about
£20 cheaper on PAYG.
The
Genio is very much like the Tocco Lite, and has the same kind of
touchscreen interface, but with a slightly smaller screen. The camera
isn't as good either, but the Genio does have cool widgets
that give easy access to Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. There's
also a full screen web browser, a music player that supports most
popular music formats and an FM radio too. With a memory card slot,
you can easily store thousands of music tracks, and the Genio is
equipped with Bluetooth so you can easily share stuff with your
friends. Initially the price of the Genio Touch was too high, but
it has already fallen to around £60, and at this price we'd
say it was a bargain and
could easily become the mobile of choice for teens.
Features of the Samsung Genio Touch include:
2 megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom
Video recording (QVGA 15fps)
Display: TFT, 262K colours, 240 x 320 pixels
(2.8 inches)
Music player (MP3/AAC/AAC+/AAC++/WMA formats)
Stereo FM radio
64-voice polyphonic ringtones / MP3 ringtones
Messaging: SMS, MMS, email
Integrated handsfree speakerphone
Personal organiser functions
Memory: 50MB plus MicroSD memory card slot (up
to 8GB)

First appearances seem good. Then you notice the lack of customization
of obvious annoying settings such as: the delete button when texting
(press it twice and it deletes everything you've typed); the software
is slow to respond to presses and sometimes locks up for a few seconds;
messages keep showing up as new after they've been read, the screen
goes blank as soon as a call is made (annoying for dealing with
touchtone menus). Also I think the touchscreen is poorly calibrated.
Wondering whether all the people here who say it's gr8 are paid
by Samsung. They've rushed the OS and it shows Rating:

to load even though i have full signal, i've only had the phone
for around 7 hours, and i love it, but despise it at the same time
as it's just so frustrating,. the space and back buttons on the
texting is in the most ridiculous place ever, and i have to touch
slightly to the left of the things i want to select as you cannot
calibrate it yourself, another thing is the awful camera, it's shockingly
bad even at 2mp, i originally wanted the new f5650 from samsung

had to settle for the genio, and it's spec is naff. i'm 17 and thought

I had this phone as a replacment phone for the Nokia 5800 and I
have to say I just dont like it. Well ill rephrase that, I love
the look of the phone and think its great that it comes with 2 other
'jackets' to change the colour of the phone but the touch screen
I just cant get used too! The text messaging is simply the worst
ive come across. If you have the fingers of a 5yr old and dont want
to text on the move then its great but its almost like the screen
hasnt been calibrated. You have to press much lower on the button
you want to use, then it presses the one next to it or knocks off
the predictive text!!! The space and back bar are awkwardly placed
and the sensitivity of the touch screen is just random. You can
feel the vibration like it has picked it up but it doesnt register
what you have pressed. The camera is terrible, with no flash, so
make sure if you buy this phone you are only ever going to want
to take pictures in places that are well lit. Its a shame as the
phone is really cool looking and cheap to buy on pay as you go,
perhaps better suited to younger people, maybe those who are getting
their first mobiles and want touch screens. I wouldnt recommend
it to anyone that has had phones such as the 5800 as that is a cool
just phone just a few software problems. Also when your on the phone
and need to use the keypad, its awkward to unlock the phone then
find the keypad button!!!Pain in the bum! Overall, wouldnt recommend
it if you use your phone for texting and taking pictures on the

shrink to fit the quality to reduced some what! Dont bother with! Rating:

a look at the genio. Was not sure at first but wow, a little cracker.
It may only have a 2megapixel camera, but you take the picture then
touch the screen and hey presto, the whole screen is filled.Good
looking, good ringtones, easy to use. Basically it is a bragain,
compared to the nightmare of purchasing the right phone. A great
xmas present for someone Rating:

I dont normally write reviews.. but felt i had to for this phone..wot
a cracking little phone...it's a nice size...perfect if you have
small hands it sits very comfortable...excellent battery life..i've
got 4-5 days out of the battery before having to charge again!.and
i text and call everyday...very easy to use and the screen is very
responsive...tones are loud enough and you can set the ringtones
as message tone etc...cheap as well £63 on vodafone payg...this
isnt a 3G phone so dont expect great speeds if you're using the
interenet..but perfect for calling/texting. DAVE (25th Oct)..IF
YOU GO INTO SETTINGS/PROFILES/NEW MESSAGE...THEN CHANGE THE MESSAGE
REPITION TO ONCE ONLY (THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE IT ON PERIODIC?)..hope
that helps? Rating:

My friend has just got the genio (we are both 12) and it looks very
cool. I, however, have a Nokia 5800 and it does seem alot better.
Ok, so its about 140 more pounds on paygo but you can get it on
great contract deals. The genio seems very very entry level and
camera is fairly bad quality. Also my friend genio has already frozen
on her 3 times durung the corse of 5 days, whereas mine hadnt frozen
at all and ive had it for 2 months. So yeah, 5800 is a better bet.
Also i wrote thisreview in its amazing browser. Rating:

Got this for £63 in a vodafone shop (12.12.09) - considering ive
never had a touch-screen they aint bad and very different to a 'normal'
fone lol. I feel the Genio is quite good...reminds me a bit of the
samsung e250 in operation and that is/was pretty popular...due to
its price - other than the touch situation. I'm just not sure I
actually like the touch screen thing...having also got a Nokia3600slide.
Either way; I feel its pretty good for consideration. If I was to
sum it up the touch screen ability and the price and the music player
and the h/fones and the good (light-level needed) cam. = pretty
cute and alrighty ! Rating:

hi had a play with this phone like it alot im getting a cheap touch
screen phone it was a coin flip between the orange vegas and the
genio the vegas is useless for 48 quid its hardly worth the money
with poor touch screen and the slow custom orange o.s its one to
stay clear of, then i was in my local voda shop had a play on the
phone for a hour touch screen is responsive and no dealing with
a horrible stylus that chizzles away at your screen, sound from
the speaker not fantastic but above average and like how you can
coustomise, all in all good phone and for the extra 30 quid ill
be snapping one of these up this weekend if you want a good reliable
touchscreen phone that wont break the bank go for the genio rather
than a orange vegas its worth the extra cos the vegas dosent even
support java or not alot else in that fact Rating:

quality on the loud speaker but if u aint one of those anoyin people

Decent phone for the money. Does calling and texting and basic internet
browsing. Shame Vodaphone failed to mention that it hasn't got WiFi

handle Facebook!! For that reason i say it is pretty average. Price
