Samsung Galaxy Ace Review

Phone rating:
In a nutshell: The Samsung Ace is a smart-looking Android phone with a larger-than-average
3.5 inch display, a decent 800 MHz processor, and a good camera.
Other highlights include GPS with Google Maps, high-speed internet
and Wi-Fi. But its battery life and reliability are questionable,
and it can't compete against the best Android phones.

Android phones are breeding like rabbits at the moment,
and the Samsung Galaxy Ace brings yet another to the mix. The Ace is
pitched at the high end of mid range, below the Samsung
Galaxy S and HTC Desire, but above
the Samsung Galaxy Apollo and
HTC Wildfire. This is a crowded space,
and do we really need another phone running Android 2.2 (Froyo) in here?
The Galaxy Ace is a little like the Galaxy S's little
brother. It certainly has a premium look and feel, with its metallic
looks giving it an iPhone-like appearance. The display is a decent size
at 3.5 inches and with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels it has exactly
the same size and resolution display as the iPhone
3G S. But that demonstrates how far smartphone displays have improved
over the past two years, as rivals like the Galaxy S and HTC Desire
now offer substantially larger and higher resolution screens.
The camera is a decent 5 megapixel job with autofocus
and an LED flash, but once again it's trumped by rivals offering HD
video recording. The 800 MHz processor is comparable with mid-range
Android phones rather than high-end phones with 1GHz processors, and
sometimes just isn't quick enough. We're also disappointed by the minimal
150MB of onboard memory.
Certainly there are many, many good features about
the phone. The aGPS with Google Maps is a favourite, not to mention
the 100,000 apps available from Android Market. For email and messaging
the Galaxy Ace is brilliant. The Social Hub integrates contacts with
facebook and twitter apps really well, and we like the Android virtual
QWERTY keyboard. There's also SWYPE, which lets you drag your finger
over the keyboard and then works out which keys you "pressed".
Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 interface works well too.
Battery life ought to be good, with a reasonably heavy-duty
1350 mAh cell installed. But in practice, the Ace doesn't seem to deliver
on its potential, with many users struggling to get through the day.
The web browser is good and fast, although there's
no support for Flash video. Connectivity is excellent though, with Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth, USB and HSDPA offering downloads at up to 7.2 Mbps.
Despite its high-end feel look and feel, the Ace isn't
really a high-end phone. At launch it was priced over-optimistically
at £25 per month on contract. Now that the price has fallen to
£15 per month it seems like a much better buy, but read the user
reviews below carefully, as some users seem to be having trouble with
this phone.
Features of the Samsung Galaxy Ace include:
- 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and
2x digital zoom

(3.5 inches) touchscreen with auto-rotate

- GPS with Google Maps
- Personal organiser functions

GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA 7.2Mbps

- Size: 112 x 60 x 11.5 mm
- Weight: 113g
- Battery: 1350 mAh
- Talktime: 390 - 660 minutes

I am on my second Ace in 5 weeks as the old one kept randomly turning
itseld off and rebooting - only to reboot moments later again. Also
the battery gotvery hot on a failed recharge. Thesecond one has just
started showing the same symptoms.... going back to the shop I'm afraid.
I am not a tech geek. I hadn't even downloaded one extra app so I know
it is the phone and not me. Going to find aother phone (not the Ace).

I agree with many of these reviewers - do not buy. Why? - because the
phone locks up and regulary requires battery removal. In 3 days it required
the battery to be removed three times. Also went flat overnight on full
charge with wifi turned on - did not wake me up. This phone cannot be
trusted. It will let you down.

What can I say about the Samsung Galaxy Ace? The Ace is just about the
best device ever invented ever, for absolutely anything. I have only
owned it for around 17 hours but every time I touch it I feel blessed.
Taking ownership of this device has fulfilled me in ways I never thought
possible. I love the Galaxy Ace like nothing else or nobody else I have
ever met. When I was nine my parents bought me a puppy and I loved it
but nothing will ever come close to this baby I`m really serious.I love
the Samsung Galaxy Ace so much I feel like marching all the way to the
factory in Korea in a very uncomfortable pair of sandals and shaking
Every Samsung worker very violently by the ears until they understand
exactly how much their wonderful work means to me. I love everything
about this phone from its seductive black facia to the intuitive tacticity
of its operation. I have a deep and venomous hatred for anyone who doesn`t
like this phone or understand all of its features.Goddam its making
me weep just thinking about the slim fitting crome surround and its
confident display screen just brimming with features.I never want to
own anything ever again unless it has Samsung Galaxy Ace written all
over the box.

A painful slow clunky piece of rubbish that you should avoid...even
if you are being given it like I have.
If the screen has gone to standby while on phone call you have to press
the hardkey or screen, unlock the screen, click and press the top bar,
status icons, drag the slider down and then hit the call end icon...That
is if you do not have any app icons across the top, and accidently launch
one of the apps instead. You can go into the settings and make the power
button a sudo end call button, but it is not a great substitute for
the button on screen.
The PC always reports the SD card as full, even with it freshly formatted.
Screen freezes randomly..so battery out to reset it
Using the call log to add numbers to favorites etc is a painful process.
The Kies software is slow and clunky, and has no good app management
facilities when compared to iTunes and the iPhone app management.
Poor battery life and flaky WiFi.
Do not buy this phone...in fact if all Android phones are as bad as
this ,..avoid Android . I used to think the Windoze Mobile was not great...but
it is a winner in comparison to this door stop

At first, in comparison to my very very dated phone, this seemed great.
But over time I have found it far more frustrating to use than even
those old brick type phones.
Texting is rubbish. Im constantly having to re-write words, sometimes
2 or 3 times because the the on screen buttons are tiny and make is
super hard to text without 110% concentration on finger placement. In
the end, it takes me twice the time to write and send a text as it did
with conventional buttons.
Emailing is slow and uncooperative, I give up on it at times, its just
not worth bothering with.
INternet browser is very basic which again results in slow and uncooperative
browsing.
Camera is fine, but not for people who was super quality, its a bit
basic but can do some funky pics.
The most annoying thing with this phone is its ability to just switch
its self of after a call or txt message and no switch back on again
without removing the battery. So so annoying. There is no pattern and
even when plugged in to recharge, thinking this is the problem it does
no respond.
You can also put it into your pocket to find you on the internet when
it comes out, or on camera function of what ever else it feels like
doing.
In all, I find it slow, awkward and unreliable with many annoying quirks.
Rubbish.
Buy the Samsung Galexy S II, now that is worth having. Does it all with
ease and no funny business.

best phone i've ever had. Positives: lightweight, big screen size, clear
and crisp display, good battery life (in my opinion because i dont constantly
use it for media/internet etc..), sleek design, great apps and features.
Negatives: there are none! Dont listen to all the negative reviews,
at the end of the day there is no such thing as the 'perfect phone'

Other than that, I will never reccommend this phone.....When I finally
opened the wrapper I was happy cause the phone looked so cool and I
couldn't wait to mess with it and get it up and running....Not even
a day later I started to experience my first problem....The phone started
to shut off by itself and the only way to get it running again would
be to take the battery out and put it back in and then turn it on.....After
all that, the phone resets itself goes back to the default settings
and this includes, ringtones, wallpapers, themes and all!!!!! It was
very frustrating!!!!! Don't worry, I sent it back to get it replaced
by the replacement gave me the same thing but an add on to my problems
and that was when I am on a call, it wouldn't hang up so now my minutes
sky rocket on my plan!!!!! It's a headache phone and now I use it for
paper weight.....I got me a Galaxy SII and now that is what I call a
perfect phone!!!!! Everyone that has an Ace, do me a favor and send

possiility that it could be a fake? The phone should accept a sim card

there should be worldwide service though - I have the same problem with

I love my galaxy ace but it has many problems, I am now on replacement
phone number 3 in the space of 8 months. My most recent replacement
is 3 weeks old and some of the problems are back. It resets itself randomly.
drops calls, goes to a black screen after making a call so that I cannot
hang up and have to take the battery out. I have done a factory master
reset 4 times and still the problems persist. On the plus side the phone
looks great, has loads of apps, easy to use for email, social networking
and for those that need the user manual this is readily available from

very good phone...battery life is good, much better than any of the
other andriod phones that ive had (se arc, samsung galaxy 2 etc) the
phone does'sometimes' click on something different and the screen does
freeze for about 15 seconds every now and then, very good wifi and signal,
compared to 90% of my other phones, any1 that owns this phone should
get it updated to genuine gingerbread 2.3.4 (not found on kies in uk
yet but can be flashed via other web sites) as this as helped with battery
life and other software flaws essentially and has speeded up the phone
as well....camera is super fab after the 2.3.4 gingerbread update so
over all before the update 7/10 and after update(now) 10/10

Swapped my Samsung Monte for the Ace and the difference is immeasurable!
It's a Fantastic phone with only a few negatives. The Battery life can
be a little on the short side but I charge it up every night and its
fine and with the Battery Saver App you can conserve power when needed.
The instructions are practically non existent but if your like me it
doesn't take long to find out how it works with practice. For the price
I think its great and would buy it again tomorrow. There are too many
positives to mention and does everything I hoped it would and more!
Outstanding Phone :).

Having previously had a sumsung toco lite and having been very happy
with it I decided to upgrade again to a Samsung. I chose the Ace due
to its price and features. Personally for the money I find the Ace hard
to fault, with regard to battery life, yes if you use it all day for
texting, playing mp3s or games then you will have to charge the phone
every night, but having spoken to people with smart phones that is iphones,
blackberries and HTCs all have to charge their phones every night. So
in short for the money I can’t fault this phone but for heavy
users expect to recharge every night (as would be the case with must
smart phones)

As I much as I really want to give this phone a perfect score, I just
can't for one glaring issue: the battery life. There are times when
I'm scared to even check the time on my phone when I'm out for fear
of wasting the battery! For such an amazing phone, it was a HUGE devloper
misstep when they made the battery. The most I have ever got out of
my Ace is about 7/8 hours-and thats a generous estimate. Such a shame,
because it is an otherwise amazing phone. But a decent battery life
is a basic NEED for a smartphone; a need that the Ace has been denied.

Got this phone before Christmas and transferred my memory card from
my other phone into it and was able to access all my pictures, until
yesterday when the phone froze and wiped my SD card and Ive lost everything,
music the lot. Gutted as had pics of my mother before she died and they
have all gone. I find it can be slow at times but love the appearance
and love having the internet at hand all day and night long. Good for
taking pics as long as they remain on the memory card so advise backing
up all the time. Easy to download apps and music and if it wasnt for
the wiping of my memory card I would have been really pleased with it.

I love this phone and im glad i have it, the battery isnt great but
it charges fast. You can get all types of cases, accessories, connect
facebook easy, it can pickup where you are, just fab! Overall i would
recommend this as its not as big and bulky as the S1 and Xperias etc

Ive sent it back to samsung 3 times and been told they cant find a fault.
The screen does not respond and the software gets really messed up,
it clicks what it wants to, writes its own text messages and it takes
an average of 15 attempts to respond to unlocking. I am looking forward
to smashng it to pieces in a few days when my new phone arrives!

not LESS being a later phone plus being a smart phone. There also is
