The Nokia E65 is a 3G smartphone
aimed squarely at business users. It's the nicest looking of the
E series, looking remarkably like a Samsung
D500, but with a different choice of colours, so no-one could
mistake the two. Unlike the Samsung, it's very much targeted at
the serious business user. This is a Symbian phone, so if offers
a lot of scope for power users to customise the phone and install
their own applications. The calendar is very flexible, and contacts
are easy to manage. There's support for email with attachments,
and fast access to data via EDGE or 3G networks. On the negative
side, Symbian can sometimes be slow and the phone may crash or freeze
from time to time.
There are some great features in this phone, but
others that aren't so hot, so you'll need to make sure it's right
for you. Starting with the exterior, we've mentioned the attractive
design of the phone already. It's a very nicely-sized phone and
not too heavy, although we'd have preferred a slightly larger keypad
- what is it with Nokia and small keypads? The slide design is practical
as well as smart, as it enables a large screen to be fitted to a
compact phone. The screen is one of the nicest features of the E65,
using Nokia's latest 16 million colour technology and a high resolution.
However, the E65 does use very small fonts, so be wary of this if
your close-up eyesight isn't what it used to be! On the other hand,
it enables you to view a lot of information on the screen at one
time.
One of the selling points of the E65 is the fact
that it can make Voice over IP (VoIP) calls using the integrated
wireless LAN connection. It's virtually unbeatable when it comes
to connectivity in fact. Not only does it have WLAN (both 802.11b
& 802.11g are supported), but it offers Bluetooth, USB and infrared
too, so you ought to be able to connect it to just about anything.
Onboard memory is reasonably generous at 50 Mbytes, with a slot
for a MicroSD memory
card too.
Although the phone features a camera and a music
player, these are bonus features, not core to the phone. One obvious
ommission is that there's no capability for making video calls,
as there's no secondary video camera.
The battery life of the E65 is less than average,
which is not surprising considering that this is a 3G phone with
WLAN and Bluetooth. You can switch off any of these features to
conserve battery life if they're not needed.
Overall, the E65 is a reasonable implementation
of a 3G Symbian phone, although it is dogged by reliability problems
and slow menus. If you don't have a need for all the high-end features,
you'd be better off with something simpler, like the Nokia
6300 or Nokia 6500 Slide.

This phone is OK. It feels good, but the performance is poor. Mine
was repaired and then replaced. Also the stand-in handset I was
given lost a key in the slide. Compared to the E51 it's a bit lumbering.
However it has a superb screen and handles email very well.

sold through mobile shops are grade A- B remanufactured. Mobile
stores get special deals on buying reworks. Most reworks still have
a higher failure rate. All in all if faulty get a working one and

This is by far the worst Nokia I have ever had... in fact, the worst
phone I have ever owned! I am on my 4th E65 so far, each developing
simular faults... the main one being, the phone often decides not
to allow outgoing calls from the recent calls list or phonebook
and regularly drops its signal. In fact, all the problems that have
been mentioned by others here already! If I had the choice I would
not be having this phone again... however, 02 have a policy that
states after 4 handsets I am entitled to pick a different handset,
not before. So, livid as I am, I am lumbered with it until it decides
to develop a fault again! I would not recommend this phone to anyone....
looks can be decieving and I have collegues who are having simular
problems!

I'm shocked at the reviews I have just seen. A super phone this,
a few nice bit'n'bobs to keep you interested if you change your
phone yearly. Messages can be a tad slow, but all in all a good
looking bit of kit, at the same time being very functional. I bought
mine six months ago, no issues to date, apart from the slow speed.
But, to be fair, N-Series Nokia's are the same on that front. Since
I bought mine, 'Which' have named the E65, 'Best Buy'. Not buying
this phone from reading peoples bad experiences, would be like not
buying a pint from your favourite pub because last night your mate
had a bad one. Nokia don't make bad phones, lets face it. Anyway,
it has a warranty, as long as it's bought from a Nokia supplier.
Hope this helps? 4/5... only because of the speed.

Been reading some of the reviews here, and I'm getting the same
feeling, an alarm that has to be set every day, slow menu operation,
no update support (as yet) from Nokia, no ability to send pictures
to the phone and make your own wallpapers, no flash for the camera
- though it's not quite bad with it's night mode switched on, and
the business like approach to the phone means it just not built
for the fun user (don't we all want a fun easy to use fun with heaps
of features?? Nokia?), unless you like sliding the phone every 30
secs like myself, it not for people who like to "set and forget".
I do have to defend it on some accounts, this thing can be connected
to any modern device, it interfaces with a lot of stuff, and after
a couple of full battery exhaustion charges, and full recharges,
the battery lasts for a good week, which is excellent considering
I have the bluetooth on all the time. What else can I say, after
a few disatrous years with a Motorola, I wanted to get back top
a nice solid straight forward Nokia, guess I'll be looking for a
new N-series in a years time or so. Nokia please take note, your
on the right path! but please get back to your solid reputation
of a couple of years back soon. (would've given it 2.5 stars)

Average phone in all respects. Very disappointing offering from
Nokia. Been using a 6310i for the past 5 years (it has out lasted
many other phones during that time)an I'd go back to it, but now
I need 3G data speeds for work, so I went for the E65 as it was
on offer at 1¤. After 2 days the signal disappeared and never came
back, now I'm on my second phone, and the signal randomly disappears
on that one too, but does come back a few minutes later - highly
frustrating in the middle of a call! Camera, which I use a lot for
work, is very average quality - was expecting a lot more from a
modern camera phone. Symbian interface can be a bit slow, but not
annoyingly so - especially when compared to MS powered phones, which
crash and burn on an hourly basis. Web browser is ok but not at
all intuitive to use, especially when entering text into boxes -
trying to get the pointer back to the page and away from the text
box should be easy, but it isn't at all obvious. Still, the real-world
browsing ability on any mobile phone has a long way to go. Only
had it a month but I'll be replacing as soon as I find a decent
3G phone that takes good quality photos and will connect to my laptop.

every day. Timer - no timer. Phone lock - a waste of space as when

The phone is the best no arguments!! But one or two things though...
What about customizing wallpapers to full screen? Has anyone tried
that? All my wallpapers are not fullscreen unlike on Nokia 6111.
Secondly, the phone does not have a daily alarm like 6111. It's
alarm will go off once and you have to reset it on a daily basis.
It has something like MEMO which is not an alarm. Thirdly, unlike
6111, E65 will drop the call (either received or made calls) when
you close the slider. With 6111 you can actually close the slider
and still continue chatting. I love E65, I own it. I have never
seen such a multi-tasking phone such as E65. You can run as many
programs as you wish at the same time except those that will require
internet access... you can only use one access point at a time!!!
Pitty the GPS not so good or fast... maybe because I am in SA, maybe
it works better in other countries... correct me if I am wrong

I am a business user and am very pleased with this phone as it is
a serious piece of kit. I can understand though why non business
users may prefer other phones. I have not had to reboot yet (after
3 months use) which was often a problem with the palm style MS models
with touch screens I have used before. The range of functionality
including 3G is excellent and its compact size makes it very suitable
for business travel. There are some downsides such as a small key
pad and medium battery life but overall these are manageable and
a good trade off for portability. My phone is set up for push email
which works well. I agree with the review that the Nokia 6300 may
be better for some business users who do not need all the functions
offered by the E65.

This phone, is probably the best smartphone released in 2007. Why?
-INTERNET, with Opera Mini Beta browser released, along with Wi-Fi
and 3G connectivity, you have the most Internet-capable phone to
date. Much better than iphone's Safari. -SYMBIAN OS, VERY customizable.
My phone has literally much better applications than my computer.
And don't get me started about the games. This practically erased
all my urges to buy a psp. -BEAUTIFUL, solid sliding mechanism,
perfect size. I have Google Earth, I have millions of 3D amazing
games, I watch full screen TV shows, and freely surf the INTERNET
on this adorable small smartphone with a big real-color screen.
Oh and the e65 gets connected to the computer and literally becomes
part of it. Installing applications is as easy as a double-click.
Perfect, Perfect phone. I'll only sell it when Nokia's iphone killer
surfaces in a year or two. This phone has everything I could have
ever wanted. Last thing, does it have GPS? Sure! You can get a bluetooth
GPS locater and hook it up with it in your car. It's as easy as
that. Or you can buy the n95 which is much bigger, thicker, more
expensive and a battery-eater. I love my e65. And I AM a power-user.

Think very carefully about your needs before buying this phone.
If you want just a basic phone, then this isn't for you. If you
are a whizz kid with mobiles, then you'll enjoy all the techno garb.
If you need emails and im and you run your own business, then fab,
but for the casual user, not a good phone at all. Extremely poor
battery life even for a low level user and the external buttons
are a real pain in the butt. You'll often pull out your phone (that's
if you can get it in your pocket in the first place) and find your
camera has turned on which means you have to ensure your phone is
locked. In Aus, you can't enter a pin for this, you can only use
the external lock which, is rubbish if you lose your phone! The
only good thing I can say about this phone is that the camera and
video is fantastic and is typically Nokia easy to use keypad. Overall,
I'm not impressed and looking for a new phone.

The camera was really good however, but there is a very long delay

that it's brilliant at) are mobile web & email access / 3g laptop
modem access / work related conference calls (with dedicated mute
& stunning speaker phone!!) / an advanced personal organiser (the
best on any mobile I've seen with excellent synching software to
Outlook) / as a mobile document reader for Office & Acrobat (note-
it can't edit documents without a further software purchase.) The
things which have bothered me & it's really bad at are- very small
fonts so stear clear if you're even remotely long sighted / keyboard
is a bit too stiff for easy text entry / it doesn't have an fm radio
/ very basic camera 2mp with poor results, no flash and no onboard
photo editing / sluggish series 60 operating system when changing
between apps / no forward facing camera for video calls (are Nokia
living in the stone age still??!) / no hsdpa high speed 3g access
/ and no FREE inbuilt push email support, unlike almost all current
SE phones (come on Nokia not all of us want to have to pay subscriptions
for push email these days- it should be free!!) The problem is that
a number of networks in the UK like 3 are trying to sell it as a
fashion phone or a camera phone, when it really is a DEDICATED BUSINESS
PHONE for high end specialist users. Select carefully.

I really rate this phone, much better than the W660i I trialled
for 2 weeks. I have it on 3 with X series silver, giving me 750
ATAN mins, 150 texts, 50 MM messages, some video calls (I've had
a 3 phone for over 4 years and used this feature once) and 'Unlimited'
internet use (i.e. up to 2Gb) for £26pcm on 18 month contract (inc
£15 discount special offer). FM Radio: who needs it when you can
stream most stations for free from the internet, not to mention
the bbc listen again stuff, its like having something better than
a DAB radio in your pocket. Never had any problems with the phone
resetting, camera not great, but that's not why I buy a phone, also
the phone is Wifi enabled, which 3 told me had been disabled on
their handsets. Was somewhat disappointed to discover the wifi was
WEP encrypted only but I understand this is the same on most mobis,
maybe the next gen will have WPA PSK. Its the first smart phone
I've even had and is pretty good - can chat to my brother in abu
dhabi for free on skype, skype-in works fine so you can even pay
a couple of quid a month for a land line number for your friends
and family to call you on at much cheaper rates than a mobile. Looks
great too - not the flashy designer wear look of the W660i but it
has an air of refinement that phone lacked. What's more with the
supplied carrying case it's more likely to keep those looks for
longer. Much slimmer and sleeker than my old 6280, about the same
size as the W660i in fact. etc etc yadda yadda ... I like it. :D

What people have to undesrstand is that this phone is not for everyone.
It has been focused on the business user. If you need an easy to
use standard phone for music photos, sms, calling then buy a classic
nokia like 6300 or SE W880i etc. This is a great phone with excellent
features. I think Nokia have introdcued a fantastic phone at a reasonable
price and it would be difficult to find a comparable phone in this
price bracket. I would receommend this phone to any power user.
Definitely doesn't look like a D500.

I have to say, I did a lot of research before choosing this handset.
I don't understand the comments on poor battery life, I think its
excellent for what it does. Wi-fi works a treat and is pretty quick
considering its a phone. The camera is more than adequate, its certainly
not as poor as some have said, if you want better, get a camera!
The music player almost rivals my iPod Nano for sound quality which
is quite impressive. The keypad lights are excellent too considering
that some say there aren't any? I've not found the phone slow nor
has it crashed, not yet anyway. I tried the Motorola Z8 before I
decided which is also a great handset but let down by the very very
very poor keyboard. All in all I made the right decicision. This
is an excellent phone. get one.

This is without a doubt the best phone I've ever owned. Connectivity
is superb, the inclusion of wi-fi is one of the main reasons I bought
it. It works a treat and I've been browsing the web and making free
calls at home and at all the hotspots around town! Another major
factor was the design. This is a very small phone considering the
functionality it contains and it's also a very good looking device
(looks like the Samsung D500? Are you kidding?!). This can do nearly
everything the N95 can do except sat-nav and 5mpx camera but has
anyone used an N95? It's massive! Realistically, if you want sat-nav
buy a sat-nav device they're far better. If you want exceptional
photos buy a digital camera, again far better! If you want a small,
light, solidly built mobile with just about all the latest functionality
available then this is the handset for you. The only valid gripe
people have made is that you can't make a video call, but I don't
know anyone who makes video calls they're too inconvenient. Buy
it now!

I usually like Nokia but this one is difficult to navigate with
using the really thin square key around the centre botton. It also
has an irritating stiff push up design to reveal text buttons. Nearly
all the buttons on the front screen are too small. Also the screen
itself is large. However your picture area is relatively small as
a lot of space is lost to symbol space. Poor.

I really thought I'd found the perfect phone in the E65. The size
is perfect, the slide works smoothly, the keypad is one of the best
for size and feel, the screen is superb and it also has WLAN capability.
The camera isn't too bad, I'd say the pics are on a par with my
N70 and 6280, although the E65 doesn't have a flash. I really like
the leather feel to the back case which makes the phone good to
hold. I also like the improvements made to the operating system,
but there's one big thing that lets this phone down in my opinion
and that's it's bad reception. I do like to have a phone with all
the latest features, but at the end of the day the most imprtant
thing is that I can make and receive calls reliably anywhere. Up
until now I have always found Nokia phones to have excellent reception,
but this one is very poor. People I call can't hear me properly,
they keep telling me I'm breaking up even though I can hear them
ok, and the phone just drops calls now and then for no reason. I
am very disappointed and have sent the phone back to Nokia. I'm
going back to my trusty old N70 until something better comes along.

don't fit all the way round side) and has a strange ridge at top
which makes it uncomfortable when using. No choice at all in ringtones,
themes etc for personalising and doesn't have a front camera for
video calling (I was told it did but that turned out just to be
a light sensor). The phone is primarily designed to appeal to business
bods I know but there are better phones for that type of purpose

The phone is a more than competent business class device. The phone
looks good and is a decent size and weight feels solid in the hand
with out feeling clunky. The slide feels good and is easy to operate
with one hand. The display is bright and clear and the text size
is not too small that I have squint at the screen. the other functions
are what I expect from this class of device easy to use. there is
not much on the phone in terms of additional software but what else
do you need a phone to do plus giving the nature of the device extra
software can be added as needs must. The wifi is a great feature
easy to setup and use and with a suitable voip package this adds
another possible way of communicating that could be Useful in cutting
communcation costs using an application like fringe to allow access
to skype. The camera is what I was expecting from a business class
phone nothing ground breaking. Had no problems with the pc suite
it worked fine on vista. Found the keypad to be of adequate size
the dimensions to better than my old k750i in that the keys are
more square. Definitely a nice device to own and use if want something
with flexibility that symbian os gives but is still stylish and
has a good feel in the hand.

minor setbacks like the camera quality could have been better. I
was previously on a Samsung D600 and also a 2M cam, but the pictures
turned out better there. Can be a bit slow sometimes but thats probably
expected for a smartphone. Poor battery life, on an average I have
to charge it every 1.5 day. The longest Ive gone on one charge is
3 days I think. But for a smartphone, the bigggest nuisance of all
is having no timer/stopwatch. Ive found an application for it tho
