BECAUSE THE SCREEN FREEZES AND YOU CAN DO NOTHING NOT EVEN MAKE A PHONE CALL WHICH IS WHAT THE PHONE IS SUPPOSED TO DO. WITH ALL THE BAD REVIEWS ON THIS PHONE I THINK ITS TIME NOKIA TOOK NOTE AND RE-CALLED THIS PHONE AS THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG WITH IT - AS CONSUMERS WE SHOULD HAVE A RIGHT TO EXCHANGE THE PHONE FOR ONE THAT IS FIT FOR ITS PURPOSE - WHY SHOULD WE BE INCONVENIENCED SO MANY TIMES - CANT WAIT FOR IT TO GO WRONG AGAIN!!! I've had this phone less than a week and already the screen has frozen so to unlock it, i have to take the battery out. it's ridiculous. the tones and sounds are extremely tinny and you can barely hear it when it's in your handbag.
the cold steel and shape of the phone make it really uncomfortable to hold. i've only ever had Nokia's but this is the worst phone i've had from them. Don't waste your money on this. I'm going to have to buy another brand now as this was the best of a bad bunch from them and this phone is awful.

i personally think that the phone is a fantastic piece of equipment. The reasons for this are because i am a bit of a fan for photos and videos and also facebook. the 5 megapixel camera show fantastic views as if you are actually at the scene yourself this goes for the piture and the camera taker. also facebook and going online... these things are very fast and you dint have to worrie about waiting for hours in end for things to load. No matter what you are veiwing this phone loads it up extreamly fast. Hope that this helps to make you think about bying this phone. :)

hi, i got the Nokia C3-01, phone two month ago and everything was working fine. recently every now and then the touchscreen decides to stop working. (the keypad continues to work) i did the following:
- removed SD card (2gb) and used the phone without it to check if the problem occurs again.
- soft reset of settings
- checked for software updates, no updates found (5.65)
- even without new updates i used nokia update manager to re-install the current firmware
- changed sim card

none of the above helped. the other thing i noticed is that this issue doesn't have a specific pattern. this 'disabling' of the touchscreen occured when:
- answering the phone while being locked. (i couldn't unlock afterwards)
- receiving messages while viewing inbox
- receiving message while calling
- after leaving the phone for a long period of time.
- right after using bluetooth transfer and more that i cant really remember right now.

i dont know if we should assume that it's not some specific application or style of use that causes this problem. could this be a hardware problem? how could it be a hardware problem if at any other time the screen functions perfectly. my gut feeling says that it's the touchscreen ''service'' (software) that fails.

I don't recommend this phone to anyone, ever. It's useless at so many levels. It is always cutting out my calls, turning off randomly or not responding. I advised my wife not to get a Nokia or a touch screen from Nokia, as they seem to have lagged well behind in the market. My wife only really wanted a mobile that she could make and receive calls, send and receive texts and take the odd picture. This was the phone that was recommended by Orange that would accomplish all that she required of it. This mobile struggles to do this satisfactorily. Now the touch screen is not working and the phone is near on useless! I would steer clear until Nokia have accomplished more.

This is a rubbish phone. Phone started freezing initially and had to be re-started. Key lock didnt work and phone would go onto internet and dial people when in pocked. Phone then deteriorated, when I pressed the green phone the camera would come on, key "def" stuck down, unable to text but phone screen would fill with number 3's. Has gone away to be repaired but I would rather never see this phone again!

I've been a Nokia user all my life. Bought it because it has larger buttons, but soon discovered this is by far the WORST model of the lot. It's power hungry and all the faults already mentioned in all previous reviews. Went back to my old 2710 Navigation Edition. This is probably the best of all the Nokias I've used, except it is badly let down by the key-pad. It is not only tiny, but completely flat, and without the 'feel' you keep pressing the wrong button.

The facebook and twitter capabilites are good and surfing the internet is also okay. It does sometimes mix up messages in the inbox, but it does this rarely. The homescreen where you can quickly access places is very useful. Overall, i'm happy with this phone!

Initially I was very pleased with my phone but after a few months it developed a fault and could only use half the touchscreen and could not get my messages or text. As I was on a contract Vodaphone sent me another. Again I was happy with the new phone until again a few months later the same software fault developed. I am sending it for repairs (I doubt if it can be repaired!). Will have to wait about a week for a new one. The incovenience is terrible! It also turns itself off. My advice is save yourself a lot of trouble and don't buy it.

For me it's very good decision. IPhone has better touch screen but I don't like Iphone! I miss only option to copy and paste. That's it.

Hmmm plenty of people have had problems with this phone, I have had it for just over 7 weeks, I had some problems learning to interact with the screen. To used to iPod screen, but once I realised it was not touch sensitive but pressure sensitive, got on well with it, scrolling nearly drove me crazy until I remembered to hold my finger on the screen and not let go until I had scrolled. I love the size and feel. Got a great deal from phones4U, But a colleague has had their screen die twice each within 3 months, so clearly there is a screen fault for Nokia to deal with. Battery life is great on mine, lasts many days with for me normal use, mostly texts, with a couple of phone calls a day (daily calls mainly on work phone). Its a good phone and nice design, but I am waiting with bated breath to see if I get past the 3 months saga. I love the phone and want it to work well, we will have to wait and see.

Was only happening once in a while but now all the time. Very frustrating when you need it in an emergency and can not text or call. Will be taking it into the shop at the weekend. I also found the signal was not as strong as my old phone and it constantly unlocks very easily in my bag or pocket and calls people.

When it works - it's a very good basic phone for those people who don't want a lot of "smart" features, like me. However, the touchscreen is unreliable and often refuses to respond at all. Many other people have commented on here about this and you'll find plenty more with a quick Google search. I will see if a Nokia return and repair fixes it - but otherwise it's heading for the bin. My recommendation is not to buy it under any circumstances - it's not worth the risk.

A very accurate and sensible write up from Chris. It does what it promises very well indeed, if you want anything more, then pay the extra price. The pluses include a battery that lasts a full week with a fair amount of usage. I think that this phone is an excellent compromise between having keys and a touch screen. No complaints here.

A very mixed bag of reviews but if your looking for a stylish compact easy to use phone for texting phoning and taking reasonable pictures and are not so bothered about the internet and facebook then its worth a look. Some of the reviewers have obviously not followed the instruction book provided and charged it properly to start with. Others have complained that you have to delete text messages one at a time which is not true as you can delete them by folder if you wish. This is my 4th Nokia phone and if like me you like the simplicity of earlier nokia phones and their funtionality then try it in the shop before deciding. Build quality is good and the screen is a reasonable size whilist texting is a doddle. The keys are nice and solid and yes the touch screen does take some getting used to but once mastered its a good compromise for touch screen phobics like me!

This is definitely the worst phone I have ever owned. I upgraded to it as I have always had Nokia's and have been used to their ease of use, reliability and easy navigation of functions. Not so with this one, as it tries to be a cross between a traditional phone and a smart phone with a touch screen. The screen is too small and not very sensitive and you will very easily end up selecting a function you did not mean to. The 3G data connectivity is also extremely slow so internet use is limited. I have had to wait since January to get out of my contract and have now moved away from Nokia as they have been left behind the rest of the market. On the plus side, the silver stainless steel effect looks nice, and the C3-01 will now come in useful as a decorative door stop.

I have been looking for the right phone for so long now that I was starting to think I could not upgrade from my trusty 6233. In the last year I have tried a Blackberry Curve, iPhone 3 3g and a HTC desire Z. While all of these high end handsets are feature rich only the blackberry could make it through the day without recharging but the blackberry needed a data contract in order to use the WiFi.One of my most important features is the ability to record calls and none of these handsets could do this which puts me back to Nokia or SE. I muss the D pad directional button for it's shortcuts and fast navigation. On D pad models I just tap down to get to the voice recorder. On the C3-01 its options > more > Recorder. I think the C3-01 is about the right balance as battery technology obviosly isn't ready to run phone with real power for a full day. I can use all the features on the phone and it's ready for a charge when I'm ready for bed. The resistive touchscreen can be clumsy but in my experience it's like this with all touch screens. The keypad is spot on I can rattle out text's so fast on this phone and the font size is great. The WiFi is fine and I have managed to set up voip internet calling after a visit to nokvoip. The phone is only 11mm thick and build quality is great. If only the C5-00.2 had WiFi all my prayers would be answered. Nokia have all the ingredients to produce a real winner again but unfortunatly the ingredients are spread across a couple of different phones. The C3-01 is probably the best phone out there for me right now. It's a marvel of technology to have all these features in such a slim phone. Just add a D pad, GPS and true emailpush wihout being in the mail app.

Altohugh not to happy with it getting hot whilst I;m on the internet, Screen frezzes when I'm trying to text or look through my phonebook, If I try to end a call it doesn't respond sometimes and memory is a little small considering size of Megapixals on camera and WIFI capability. Overall if you want a basic phone that is cheap and with WiFi then this is the phone to get. I think I use my phone to much for something like this so need to upgrade.

TERRIBLE PHONE! Main problem is it overheats when you use the internet for a while or play a game and then it shuts down. I've already had a replacement and the 2nd phone has the same problem. Also, the buttons require a lot of pressure when texting which is a pain. If I could have made my choice again I would have gone for a HTC Wildfire for the same money - oh, and I don't work for HTC if that's what you're thinking! I'm just a regular punter.

Not a bad 'phone. Camera not too great (the 2mp on my old Nokia 6300 was better) but has flash (which doubles as a torch). Large Keypad good for texting and touch-screen works fine once you get used to it being very sensitive. Poor internal memory means upgrading is a MUST. Very solidly built.

I had this phone for more than 6 months now. First of all, the metal build is great. The touch and type interface is useful but a little clumsy. My gripes about this one is the poor battery performance even when I got everything in battery saving mode. I even turned 3G off. I expected this to have the same battery life as E51 but C3-01 is poorer in this aspect. Then the earpiece went AWOL on me a few weeks ago for no reason. This is not what I expected of a less than 1 year phone from Nokia. I'm not even a heavy user, just the occasional calls and texts.

Returned my first one but it came back with different faults. Got it replaced, I still hate it. Have gone back to my old 6303, a proper phone for my needs. I'm aggrieved that I've paid for a contract phone which is so poor. Three of my colleagues also have this model and complain about theirs.

At first I couldn't control the scrolling on the touch screen, but with a little patience and practice, I have got the hang of it. As I have a camera for taking photographs and an ipod and cd player for listening to music I use my mobile phone to send texts (sometimes with a picture). Occasionally, playing games... Oh, and surprise, surprise even as a phone!

I have been a Nokia fan since 1994, and to be honest, this phone is a bit dissapointing. The basics are great, easy to use for calls and texts, even the touch screen is very good, and it looks great. The short cuts are really good to and you can customise all day. The problem will arise if you want to do anything more. The conection is like being on the old 'dial up'. It quite often times out and you have to start again, even on wifi. The email account does not go properly into your actual account so you cant access your contacts (other than the ones stored on your phone)it more sort of dips in to get info. I have been onto Nokia several times to find out how to set an audible alert to tell you of a new email, and they dont seem to know how to do it, I can only assume it does not do it. Also you will find the apps very limited. Most of the ones on Ovi do not work on this phone, and the ones left do not really have much of a function, for example you cannot put any maps on here (even Love film app does not work on here) All in all, great styling, great for the basics, but a smart phone this is not. All depends on what you are looking for I suppose

One plus point: it looks nice- just rubbish to use. Terrible handset.

Mine has current software(6.00). Unfortunately, my phone has a few problems. It often refuses to save photos - the ring of dots keep spinning until I remove the battery. It also refuses to alert me to new emails or send them to the home screen email, only when I enter the email via the menu will it download new mail and sound the alert tone. Emailed Nokia so many times and have followed their advice: hard and soft resets, etc, etc. Tried everything but no change. Now the '0' button is loose, like a wobbly tooth. Nokia are not the same as when I owned everything from the 5110 through to the N73.

just got one of these & its taking quite a bit to work out how things work! Main problem is the phone ( like most now!) doesnt come with an instruction book. There is a user guide you can download at Nokia site but its far from extensive. I cant understand why they no longer give out a book? Obviously there is a "secret" FULL instructions somewhere that is how all the tech gurus get the info! Its a real pity because most folk will never get to use all the features of this & other phones! My old Moto V3 had a book over 250 pages & it could only do a tenth of the stuff a modern phone can! The main problem with the C3-01 is the touchscreen. if you try & scroll a list - say for example your contacts, the list will either scroll up so fast you cant see anything OR the first name your finger touched when starting to scroll will open even tho you didnt want that one! I could search much faster with my old keypad phone! There is an option to "configure" the touchscreen but it makes no difference when you do this! hardly surprising since there are no options for adjustment here! You will have to spend a lot of time on various helplines finding out how things work!

I have read numerous of these reviews and still decided to purchase. Alot of these points bought up in this fourm are false. There is a "hotkey" for your contacts it's on the bottom right of the screen that says names. Also the gentleman who said you cannot delete a msg unless you access the delete msg folder is wrong, all you need to do is hold down on the msg and the option will appear also people saying that the screen is non responsive, there is an option to change the sensitivity of the touch screen, people please read your manuals. I am quite enjoying this phone as the the combination of touch and type combine nicely. My only issues with this phone is firstly the back cover is very stiff to get off, but after a few accesses it is fine. My major and only real problem is the camera quality. The pictures are extremely blurred no matter how much you try to zoom or not. My last Nokia only had a 2mp camera and the quality was so much better, Shame for evertything else is a plus

I've had this phone since February, upgrade with T-Mobile. Took a few days to get used to the touch screen but now I've mastered it I can honestly say it's brilliant. This phone is a must for anyone, who like myself, uses a mobile for just texting/talking and taking the occassional photograph. A step up from my Nokia 6300 with some of the advantages of a smart phone. Battery lasts about a week depending on useage. Feels great in the hand, although a little 'slippery', so have bought a silicon cover which protects the back cover and right hand side keys (volume & camera).

One problem however is although I can send music files by bluetooth TO the phone but it doesn't appear to allow you to send music files FROM the phone by bluetooth although it allows the transfer of photos both ways. Otherwise a good reliable phone which isn't over complicated to use. The part keypad/part touchscreen idea is a good one, and it being a smaller screen than a smartphone the battery lasts longer, but is has most of the functions of a low end smartphone.
