The
Nokia 8910i is a unique mobile phone. Constructed with black titanium
covers, and with a smooth slide opening action, the 8910i is deisgned
to make a big first impression. Titanium metal is as strong as steel
and as light as aluminium, making it an excellent durable material,
albeit very expensive! This is, of course, the point.
It
must be understood that by paying £400+ for a phone you are
buying exclusivity and looks, not the latest technology. Inside
its titanium case, the Nokia 8910i cannot compete with more modern
phones feature-wise. True, it has all the basics for making calls
and messaging and can sync with a PC using Bluetooth, but
that's it. The display is poor quality in comparison with the latest
phones; only 4096 colours, and the passive matrix technology means
that the screen is dim and very difficult to read outdoors. There
are no applications such as email, or organiser functions that come
with smartphones. And of course, if you want a camera, MP3 player,
etc, then please look elsewhere.
The
8910i fits a narrow niche, and fits it well: the person wanting
a phone with essential phone features only, but one that will make
a big impression.
The
8910i has now been replaced by the Nokia
8800, which offers the same exclusivity and style but with more
up-to-date features as well.

I have had my phone now for 7 months, and am 21 years old. Now,
all my mates have different phones (fortunately not this one) and
yes, they all go on saying why did you pay this much etc when their
phone does all these other things. But I ask them "yes it does all
these things, but it just does not look the tits does it?". They
all love playing with the sliding motion, and they all would want
one themselves but just cannot afford it. It is a guaranteed head
turner, marks you out as classy, and straight down to business.
If you want a camera, buy a camera. How many people do you turn
and stare at in disgust when you are down the pub who play with
their ringtones?! You just appear like you have no sophistication.
Do not be a lamb and follow the masses, buy this phone. Plus, it
also never fails to impress when in a club and pull it out to get

People that say this phones downfall is it's price obviously can't
afford it. Which is fine, that is the whole idea! Truth is this
phone was the commercial prototype of the Vertu - (a phone which
even I cannot afford YET! Give me time.) I can only reiterate the
reviews that I have read really. I have had mine for around three
years and I have yet to find another phone (except the Vertu) worthy
of upgrading to, despite being pestered by my service provider.
I am a Project Director at a design consultancy and therefore don't
wish to be screamed at by ridiculous ring tones, nor do I wish to

this one after an awful year with a tatty, unreliable silvery plastic

polyphonic - and it did the business of being a phone really very
badly. God, how I grew to hate it in only one year... This phone

you had that feeling where you drive past and no-one really looks

flashy car but face it "average" And the next minute you see a Rolls
Royce pull up by you or maybe even a Ferrari or whatever and suddenly
everyone is amazed well this is no different to the nokia 8910i.
I suggest if you want that feeling and be honest to yourself of
course you do EVERYONE does. See in this world is all about money
nobody cares if your a doctor or whatever your nobody till your
somebody, so if you want to be that person who doesn't get no looks
or attention then by all means buy a camera radio mp3 phone but
if you do, go get a 8910i p.s if you wondering I do actually have

Just come across this site and wanted to add my experience of the
8910, but since there seems to be only the 8910i review, I guess
the comments are applicable there too. I selected the 8910 handset
for mainly 2 reasons. 1) It had a titanium body which implied to
me toughness and the ability to ignore drops/bumps. 2) It had a
cover for the keys to prevent those annoying calls made while the
phone in on your pocket. The reality is that neither works properly.
The first bump the phone had resulted in the sliding cover coming
off and pulling out the wires. IIRC around £47 worth of repairs.
And the sliding cover loves to open itself in your pocket. In fact,
near the end of it's life it just needed a featherlight touch on
one side to spring open. That aside, the phone is fine once you
have got used to the keys being so close together. And Nokia's annoying
habit of putting daft/unexpected/very annoying, questions/screens
in the menus etc. (But IME Nokia is better than most at limiting
that). Worth getting, but be aware of the limitations. Rating:

After looking at the Nokia 8910i in a phone shop in town i decided
to purchase one as i was due an upgrade on my current handset. I
previously owned a Nokia 7210 and found i wasn't using any of the
additional functions it had; i used the phone only to send and recieve
SMS, and PHONE people. These two basic functions i beleive are what
a mobile phone is designed for and the Nokia 8910i does both of
these things brilliantly and in true style. Come on guys (and gals)
how many phones on the market look as good as the 8910i? In my view
the only phone that matches the 8910i in terms of looks is the Vertu
mobile; this however will set you back considerably more money than
an 8910i. In my opinion, and i think many fans will agree with me,
people purchase the Nokia 8910i because they want something a little
different, something a little special, a phone that does the basics
very well and a phone that is classy without being flashy. I beleive
that if you want to carry a laptop computer in your pocket then
buy a Sony P900 because thats essentially what it is but don't be
surprised when the screen breaks and you can't call anyone. Buy
a 8910i if you want to have a basic phone that works well and looks
excellent. Rating:

it does not do nearly all the things I could do with my P900 (watch
and make videos, take pictures, touch screen, games, and a load
of other pointless applications), but what I finally realised after
like 2 years, is that you dont need all that crap. Its really very
simple. All you need a phone to do is fit in your pocket, look nice,
make calls and if you're lucky, make your friends go oooooooohhhhhh.
The 8910i certainly does these things. It has a few nice features
like infrared, bluetooth, calender, colour screen, WAP and some
games. And its all you need. It looks the dogs bollocks and thats
what I've decided I want. A bit worried about the mechanism after
a lot of use, but sod it, i'll get a new one. This is without question,

-Very nice cool, luxury/elegant blackish cover and silver keypads.
-color screen is good enough for mms, games, and other stuff -system
menu is very fast, i don't like those lagging ones on samsung phones
etc. -good connectivity, bluetooth, gprs, infrared everything you
need. (however there some bad points below) -good memory, can store
many people on the contact list, can store plenty messages, etc.
-java application and games stability is excellent. -game features
is amazing, i downloaded Final Fantasy RPG game to play on my phone
and i think its the only game i ever need to kill time. -the titanium
cover is strong, you can throw the phones anywhere, many times and
the phones will not break except the plastic part on the back of
the phone. (but scratches everywhere) (i really did it, when i was
fighting over someone on the phone) -Battery life is excellent.
-if you want to use this phone as paired device for pda, laptop
etc for internet gprs connection is excellent choice. -Who said
P900 was better? look at its gigantic size and extremely ugly look.
-voice quality is outstanding, even without handsfree. -organiser
and extra features are very useful. -excellent signal reception
-its small Bad points: -Scratches very easily, and the phone's structures
are not mostly made from titanium even on the outer part of the
phone there is still a huge plastic part on the back of the phone
above the nokia silver sign. the plastic parts break easily. -opening
mechanism gets really bad ater a few weeks of use, and when it gets
bad, the upper part of the phone will slide out like a cheap plastic
toy when you press it. -2 bottom corners of the phone screen are
blurry (bottom of Menu and Names). -Phone software is not stable
even the lastest one, phone will crash often (specially when its
on standby). so don't even think of using the phone as everyday
alarm. -Minimum support from Nokia dealers for repairement, since
this is a premium product you have to get in touch with nokia club
for repairement -New casing cost around US150 -No lights on the
number keys as this will be problem to some people who dont memorize
the alphabet on the key numbers when they try to write SMS -can't
reject calls -can't transfer files (graphics, ringtones) thru paired
devices (mobile phones, pda, etc) -the bluetooth wireless headset
can disconnect by itself because of loss signal while you're on
the call. -dual band only, can't use the phone in the US Final Point:
-Good for people who want to be "elegant" and "different" since
not many people own this phone. If you want to buy high-end phones
with excellent features then go look somewhere else this is not
the phone for you. you will get very dissapointed with it. -be ready
to change the phone casing at least every 2 months and update the
software via nokia club or from those pro mobile mod people on the
street. -when the first time youhave this phone you;re gonna be
wow, you can show off to people, friends around you specially with
the still new opening mechanism when you receive call. -You definetly
will get annoyed with system unstability, can't reject calls, and
scratches on your phone (even if you think you won't), however you
will get used to it after a while. -also i disagree with people
who said this is a phone for so called professional or rich or whatever
high class thing. It's just a different kind of phone, stop saying
weird stuff :P take a look at vertu phones and you will know what
im trying to say www.vertu.com As for me the reason why i bought
this phone is because -i like nokia's phone system and menu, specially
on the 8910i as it is very fast like the old nokias. the lagging
menus and low frame rate graphic display on other brands are gay.
who cares about rich colourful display when its lagging and the
frame rate is like 1fps? nokia's graphic doesnt lag at all. -i don't
care about the camera , polyphonic ringtones (normal ringtones sounds
more elegant and peaceful to me, others are annoying and who actually
listen to them?) and someother all-in-one pointless gadget on a
mobile phones as they are really suck and you won't need it most
of the time. I'm happy enough with colorful java games, can fit
500 friends on mobile list (diferent numbers, emails, etc), good
connectivity (bluetooth, gprs, infrared), good battery life, and
everything else that you actually need to have on a phone. -from
my experience, people who use those gadget techonish phone thing
that has camera and stuff, soon they will buy a new similiar phone
so fast, as the new one come out. I don't think I will buy new phone
for about at least 2 years. last time i used my 8210 for 4 years
since i think it was a really good phone and i didn't even bother
to upgrade even that i got money. -and the last point is that i've
been trying to find a good quality phone which has black color for
ages. and at last i found it, This is really the only good quality
phone that has "black" color in the market. I hope my review can
help those people who are confused about this phone and for people
who are thinking to buy it. Rating:

This phone is purely for the style conscious and really isnt aimed
at anywhere near 'power user' market. It looks nice, will recieve
colour MMS (good basic improvement on the near-pointlessness of
monochrome MMS on the 8910) and it performs near enough the same
functions as an 8850, but with a colour screen, standby fullscreen
clock, bluetooth, java and poly ringtones. I have no idea what Chelsei
is talking about regarding in-built games and ringtones. The phone
is capable of recieving both and has pre-loaded games and poly ringtones.
Very wierd assumption to make, especially since games have been
a Nokia mainstay since the days of the 5110/5146/nk402. The spring
push up flip is very gimmicky, but for street kudos gets the nod,
and the titanium casing on it is pointless when its painted black
anyway :S I modded mine with the 8910 titanium housing for it to
look nicer. Feature set wise, its very poor. Bluetooth works OK
when paired with a TDK PCMCIA card and a Sony Ericsson HBH-65 (although
I cant voice dial). But, and this is a big but, for the price, the
Sony Ericsson P900 is available, which has more functions and features
on it than you can shake a stick at. Its nice for the poser, but
for me, my P900 wins every time I need a serious phone to use. P900
can be used as a mobile theatre with the right software! Rating:

I laid eyes on it. That is, taking into consideration both its external

is that they only targeted European, Asian and African markets as
the phone is only Dual Band. This is one big mistake as they deprived

I have used all these new gadgets and differnt make phones previously.
For me mobile phones are a piece of your personality. My last phone
was Nokia 7650 and I started using it when it just arrived in market.
Played with it enough for about a year and then I started to realise
that all this new features and camera functions are of no use in
everyday life. Its like coming to the full circle and I now was
looking for something really simple but at the same time really
exclusive. For me there was no other choice then 8910i. Its a truely
exclusive phone in terms of professionals. Its not at all meant
for anyone below age 20 as it doesn't have any new 'features' as
other phones that one can show off. Its meant for professional people
and business class. I mean do we really care about having polyphonic
ring tones and do people enjoy it when they listen our phone ringing?
I bet most of us keep our phone on silent mode during working hours.
After using all these phones, I realised th at the only functions
we use in mobile phones are to make or receive calls and sometimes
sending SMS. Do we have time to play games on it or keeping ourselves
happy with new logos everyday? So no offence to any age groups but
this phone is meant for business people and for those who like to
add a touch of class to it. On technical side, the phone works great
and there is no problem whatsoever the I would only sugget to take
care of the sliding buttons to all the users as it tends to give
problems after long time of use. So I will give it all thumbs up. Rating:

phone is not aimed for children but adults and people that can afford
such high quality. In a phone built out of titanium, I ask who would
want polyphonic tones and games, as it will just taint the truly
extraordinary quality of this phone. I would ask anyone this. Would
you rather have a Nokia 7210, 7650, 6100 etc and have the polyphonic

This phone is admittedly very expensive, but that is a function
of the materials used in construction, and also may have a little
to do with Nokia's idea exclusivity. It provides all the functionality
that is required of a phone, with the added advantage that you can
easily control and manipulate the phone book and diary, via a bluetooth
connection, synchronising with your outlook or outlook express applications.
This phone would not suit the text and gaming generation, but to
be fair to Nokia, this phone is not aimed at them. The keys are
small, but perfectly usable. This is an elegant phone, not a Fisher
Price toy. I purchased my 8910i to replace an 8910, which I was
also happy with, but managed to crack the screen of by walking into
