Based
on the same series 60 platform used by the pioneering 7650 and 3660,
the Nokia 7610 was a ground-breaking multimedia phone that features
a 1 megapixel digital camera and up to 10 minutes of video recording.
The phone comes with a Movie Director application, so you can shoot
and edit your movies on the move.
This
is one of Nokia's best phones, with full smartphone features, an
excellent display and camera, and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
The range of pre-installed and downloadable applications is immense,
but the design is compact and lightweight (for a smartphone!) One
niggle is the idiosyncratic keypad design which slows down typing
and can be quite annoying. Audio quality isn't the best either,
with mono MP3 sound only. Despite this, the 7610 is an outstanding
smartphone that seems to be virtually free of the reliability and
software problems that dog so many high-spec smartphones.
Features
of the Nokia 7610 include:
Integrated 1 megapixel (1152 x 864 pixels) camera
with 4x digital zoom for quality prints
Integrated video recorder with audio function
and 4x digital zoom for video clips up to 10 minutes long (128
x 96 or 174 x 144 pixels resolution)
Standard and night camera modes and self-timer
Movie Director - combine video clips, add music,
or change styles
Created and downloaded digital content (images,
sounds, videos) with Gallery storage
Welcome Demo for a quick start as well as a
Help application that guides you through your phone's many features
65,536 colour-display, 176 x 208 pixels
5-way navigation key
Bluetooth wireless technology and USB connectivity
8 MB internal dynamic memory (expandable to
64 MB)
MMS, email, and instant messaging
Advanced XHTML browser
RealOne Player - download and play multimedia
(video + music) files (formats: 3GPP, RealMedia, MP3, AAC)

Combine image, video, text and voice clip and send as MMS to compatible
phone or PC

This is simply a fantastic phone with all the features you need.
It's a phone, game console, mp3 player and good friend :) It has
fantastic sound and it's so cool to use mp3's as ringtones. Collect
all the cool realtones on the net and use www.mobstorage.com to
upload it to the phone for free. I have also watched complete movies
on it :) The best thing is the memory card of course. I have a 1gb

the keypad and I would prefer the joystick type as on 6600. Camera
quality is excellent as is the zoom facility. Excellent display
but sadly no radio or headphone facility, along with a different
type of hands free to other models, a shame but an allround fantastic
phone. Very easy to use. Rating:

I simply bought this phone because I wanted a stylish looking camera
phone. I am not very technical and really looked for something that
is easy to get to grips with, but had the features there if I wanted
them. The Nokia 7610 is relatively easy to navigate your way around
and has so many features (that I do not use a lot), that I keep
having to re-read the instructions when I decide to use them! I
love the way the menu is laid out like a desktop in the 'grid view',
is this now a common feature of all new phones? I love the camera,
nice clear pictures although I have never owned a camera phone before
so have nothing to compare it with. Unfortunately though, when I
first bought the phone, I decided to try to experiment using my
very limited knowledge and downloaded a animated screensaver. The
result was that the phone immediately locked up and would not let
me into the menu to try to clear it out. At first I was told that
this phone was not capable of accepting this type of screensaver,
but then was told that it was the phone that was at fault and it
was sent back to the manufacturer for repair (this was within a
week of buying the phone). My other general impressions of the phone
are: I find the keypad fine to use without any problems hitting
the keys. I am not too keen on the scroll key as it does not seem
to respond that quickly. I have found that the phone has locked
up a couple of times when I have tried to access the gallery and
I have had to turn it off and take out the battery to get it to
work again. Agree with others that the battery life does not seem
to be that good. The signal on this phone is much weaker than my
old phone the nokia 3100. I changed networks with this phone to
t-mobile, but as I have said earlier, have limited technical knowledge
and am not sure if this is down to the phone or the network. I am
not sure if I would recommend this phone to anyone like myself who
does not fully understand the range of applications and therefore
does not get the full value from it, but generally it is easy to
use and I would say is good value for money. Rating:

Contra: 1. Sound is MONO, the phone DOES NOT support standard Nokia
stereo headset, if you want to listen music on the phone DO NOT
buy this model - it is completely useless for this purpose. Also,
do not count on using favorite MP3 song as a ringing tone, the sound
quality is just awful. 2. No support for hot change of memory card
- To change the RS MMC card one need to switch off the phone, open
the cover, remove the battery,... 3. Sound recorder feels sometimes
unreliable - starts recording with some delay so you miss few first
seconds 4. I am really missing the touch screen for some Symbian
applications - spreadsheet app (real pain to make a spreadsheet
without pointing device), recording (extremely useful for taking
notes, but one need to use keyboard to name recorded clip - stylus
and graffiti software would be much better solution),... 5. Lack
of support for synchronization tool for other operating systems
- Mac OS, Linux 6. No FM radio 7. No IR connection Pro: ---- 1.
Excellent design, feels awesome in the hand, also you get used to
the funny keyboard quickly 2. Really useful 1.3 Mpix camera - makes
daylight pictures comparable to some compact photo camera 3. Very
good display 4. Reliability 5. Tones of nice application and games
for Symbian Series 60 operating system available for fee or for
free 6. Standard Nokia synchronization tool for Microsoft Outlook
(with some minor issues though) 7. Nice set of software in the package
(recording,excellent calendar, notes,todo,...) 8. Powerfull address
book Actually, I was thinking of giving 4 stars, but the SOUND IS
AWFUL!!! so I just couldn't. Rating:

I brought this phone on contract but I sent it back almost straight
away I couldn't believe how poor the keypad is to use, the buttons
are hard, stiff and too small and very slippery i had to use my
finger nails which got quite painful after awhile As for the multimedia
features what a big con! The video recorder is very jerky, dark
and slow its just like watching a slide show, 7610 video was shockingly
bad and i mean shocking because the 6230 which i later purchased
does a better job and records smooth video so how come the video
recorder is so bad on the 7610? Why is the video recorder so jerky
dull and slow on 7610 but much faster and brighter on 6230? The
7610 is meant to be a level above the 6230 right?, wrong- not with
video recording it isnt and not with MP3 play back either as I later
found out. The 7610 supports only mono mp3 playback which means
you cant even listen to your mp3s in true stereo quality on the
7610 but you can on the 6230 and most other phones! Also 7610 has
no infrared, whats all that about? 6230 has infrared! The phones
meant to have full internet support but when i tried surfing on
it, it looked nothing like the internet your used to on a PC or
laptop and it was extreamly slow, besides if you wanted the phone
for full internet support it would be very expensive and slow and
you could get a ngage that has this feature and NGAGE QD now is
only £79.99. Infact i came to the conclusion that the 7610
is only better than the 6230 by 1 or 2 things it has a 1 megapixel
camera which isnt that much better than the 6230s VGA camera and
ofcourse it has symbian support so you can add different programs
to your phone but lets be honest you are very unlikely to do this
as there are few if any useful symbian software out there woth buying
and its expensive and difficult to install. Most people haven't
got time to be downloading and installing SIS files in 3 different
locations on the phone just to get it up and running. Oops 1 last
thing did i mention the 7610 looks like a todlers toy? Rating:

i mean, what was nokia thinkin when they put a rs 20,000+ phone
in the market with expandable memory, an mp3 player, a video+audio
recorder but no stereo sound?? i can store all the mp3s in the world
on a 1GB RSMMC, but then what do i do with them? listen on one ear
n go deaf in that ear? Apart from this major dissapointment, everything
else in the phone rocks, specially the 1MP camera. Softwares like

is quick to bring stereo dual earphones in the market. (CAN ANY1

This phone has all the modern features you could need or want...
well almost. The Nokia 7610 provides excellent pictures from the
1.3 mega pixal camera and videos along with a variety of toys such
as video editor, for when you have far too much spare time. It also
has a huge memory so loads of pictures can be stored. BUT theres
a few things which bring it down. Its slow to open options such
as messages, pictures and web. The calander has few options and
is primative for such a new phone. Also Nokia informs me there is
no headphones available for the phone as the Realplayer is mono
output, so everyone has to listen to your MP3s when you want to.
It boasts new extras like "positioning" and "Presence" which frankly,
knowbody uses anyway. So yes, the NOKIA 7610 is very advanced phone
but like NOKIA do so well, they have taken 2 steps forward and 1
step back. I recommend this phone for all its clever feactures but
i wouldnt stay loyal to it. I intend to change my phone within the

are still some negative points about the phone...at first the 7610

I was sold this phone as I was looking to upgrade from the P800
to something that ran symbian, was less of a brick and had a decent
camera. The 76100 was what the salesman recommended. It's taken
me a while to get back into not using a stylus, but got back into
keypads again. So what did I get for the rather large sum of money
I had to part with? I got something that looked fantastic. It is
smaller, lighter, more user friendly. It does the job, if a bit
more slowly than the P800. It looks great and it's unusual design
is a talking point. What I didn't get was a good quality digital
camera. On uploading my images I got a passable snap on the computer
screen. This is most definitely not a replacement for anyones digital
camera. The video is limited with regard to quality, but I had no
real expectations in this area. Bluetooth connectivity to my HBH
65 headset is a joke. It keeps disconnecting and is so gruesome
to use, I have gone back to a wired headset when driving. One of
the most annoying aspects of the phone is that you cannot listen
to any quality music, because they do not seem to have a stereo
headset that works with this phone. I was told by my supplier that
this phone had no headset supplied with it. I have tried using a
matching headset for the 7210 and after that the 7600. They plugged
in ok, but then came back as non supported. Don't sell me a music
player with no way to appreciate the quality. When I got the Sony,
I got so many accessories. The Nokia 7610 had no accessories supplied
with it. Not even a hands free kit. They really are the barebone
packages of the mobile phone world. To summarise, I got something
that does a great job of being a mobile phone; a poor job of being
a PDA and is a disappointing multimedia device. The one blessing
is that it is Symbian and so I should be able to find apps to do
the things I want in the way that I want them. This phone did not
meet my expectations and I suspect that it is aimed at the sector
of the market that rates fashionable over usable. Looks like another
contract year of wishing I'd waited a bit longer before upgrading.

Had this phone fora bout 6 weeks now,and its not bad. I was recommended
the phone by a sales person, based upon what i wanted. My previous
phone was a Son Ericsson P900 and I wanted something that was lot
less complicated, but still with some decent features, and lo and
behold, the Nokia 7610 was the answer. I like the way you can configure
which button to have on screen in the stand by mode, and once you
install AppMan (www.symbianware.com ) you can add any programme
to the Go To folder and tehn have this button on screen, so its
the 'favoutites' button. THe keypad does take some getting used,
although you should pick it up quickly. I found the number 3 button
a littl eon teh small side, and much samller than the others, so
when texting or dialling, I always miss out the d/e/f letters of
the number 3! The other small gripe is the caller id / caller display
on incoming calls. THe pop up thumbnailis rather small ( although
you can get Full Screen Caller application ) but normally, it takes
a few rings for the phone to match the numbers thats ringign you
to those you have in your phone book, it doesn't bring it up straightwawy,
it just displays the number. Also had a small problem with teh Alarm
function, as the snooze option disappears. The only way to bring
it back is to re-boot the phone!Recently downloaded a few games
as well, and also there are some otehr applications out there to
help you maximise teh funtionality of your 7610. Apart from all
that, its a pretty decent phone, I can download all my POP3 emails,
reply to them , text happily enough, take decent photo's, download
MP3 files and use them as ringtones, and also sync it with my Outlook
calendar on my pc so I can carry my diary round with me. THe pc
software ( Nokia PC Suite ) is a little limited, but you can do
most things with it ( transfer files, download music / images )
. Not a bad phone at all. Rating:

complicated, and was unable to hook it up to my computer as it was

could be either. Find that it takes so long to do things, everything
has to be loaded or downloaded first. It also doesnt keep up with
text messaging - I'm not that fast, yet I still have to wait for
words to appear before typing any more. Although I like the look
of the keypad design, find it slightly clumsy to use. Kinda disappointed
at not having radio either, considering i cant actually download

taking out a new contract so I could get it free. I wasn't prepared
to fork out £230 again, although I was very tempted to get the P900.
Camera is of very good quality. Although I think photos inside with
a good light look better than some taken ouside when I've had them
printed in Tesco. Movie Director is really good. MP3 is not as good
as the K700i (my brother has that phone), but it's kewl that you
can use MP3s as your ringtone. I just got a 512k memory card off
Amazon for £40. Well worth it! It's well handy connecting to a PC
and just dragging the files you want onto the phone. Bluetoothing
them just gets annoying! You don't get any games with it, well I
didn't but I put the games from my 7650 onto it and you can d/l
snake from the Nokia wap site and some other bits from there. Theres
just one thing that annoys me with wap, that it doesn't always disconnect
you and I end up having to switch the phone off and on, losing about
3 battery bars in the process! Other than that, it's been a great

only does SE K700i has good reception, it has good connectivity
(Bluetooth, irDA,etc) and a good STEREO audio output for its FM

Nokia have once again done what they do best -- Taken their winning
formula a-la the 7250, a formula that is known to work beautifully.....and
dropped it in favour of something new and risky.....which has totally
paid off! The operating system on the 7610 has loads more features
than their older phones, and is very different to use. Yet in true
Nokia style, it somehow all works -- They keypad is unusual but
still feels right, there are extra buttons but they all work in
your favour, the menu system has extra levels but it's still quick
and easy to find things, and so on... This phone has amazing features,

erratic, even when the phone establishes a connection it only actually

recognises the voice 1 in 50 when driving even when recorded when

I have had the 7610 for a couple of weeks now and am still trying
out the multitude of features and functions, so this is just an
initial review. Up to now, I have been very disappointed with pics
taken with camera phones. When the new breed of 1mp phones became
available, I was naturally quite interested. But the main reason
I got the 7610 at this time was because my 12 month contract was
coming to its end, and the 7610 was available free with a new £22/month
Anytime 100 Vodafone contract (including half price rental for 3
months + free weekend calls for 6). In effect, I received a free
£350 phone for a contract which costs quite a bit less than my expiring
one! So I am experimenting for nothing, and I also now have a 6100
as back-up as well! Personally, I really like the look and feel
of the 7610. Even though it is quite a bit bigger and heavier than
the 6100, I am getting used to it. I like both versions - I think
the white/silver version (mine) is ~classy~, whilst the black/red
is ~sexy~. When the replacement fascias come out, I shall be buying
the red/black and alternating! The key layout is unusual but it
doesn't take long to get used to it. Those who are used to phones
being ready to use almost as soon as they are switched on are in
for a little surprise. The 7610 is like a PC and takes a while to
go through its 'boot up' process. But once on, it works as quickly
as everything else. No complaints about reception either, more 'blobs'
than the 6100 in my test areas. The loudspeaker function works well
and with the phone on a table or dashboard, people I call say they
can hear me fine i.e. you could use it hands free in a car. Battery
life seems OK average but I haven't used it over a long enough period
to really comment. I am generally very pleased with the phone. I's
a good combination of phone, camera and PDA. Photo quality is just
ok, even at the 'high' setting (1152x864). Sure, it's far better
than most camera phones but still some way behind your average 3mp
digicam; I have to use 'Photoshop' for enhancement. Video quality
is acceptable and the length of 10 mins is very good. Haven't tried
the video editor yet. The phone may play MP3 but sound quality is
pretty atrocious, mono only and no jack for headphones. Luckily,
I do not need my phone to play music, or listen to radio (which
it doesn't have!). The included USB cable for connecting the phone
to a PC is very useful (I wouldn't have a camera phone without one).
Far easier/quicker downloading and uploading stuff, manipulating
files, doing memory back-ups, etc. I download the pics and videos
and email them, rather than use MMS. But be warned, the DKU2 cable
driver and Nokia PC Suite software for the 7610 only works with
Windows XP (SP1 minimum) or 2000. If you are running Win Me or older,
forget it - I have PCs running different Windows versions and I
have tested this! A very poor decision by Nokia, in my opinion.
Lastly, the back cover needs to be closed carefully - the locking
tabs do not seem very positive or secure; I have had the cover popped
off a couple of times. Not really on for a phone that costs this
much but I've since bought a protective case, so end of problem!
