Nokia 6103
Review
Phone
rating:
The
Nokia 6103 is an updated version of the Nokia 6101. Considering
that the 6103 was released one year after the 6101, not much has
changed. The 6103 adds Bluetooth connectivity but that's about it.
So much for progress.
The
6103 is a clamshell phone that is attractive, compact and well designed,
but too expensive for what you get. The VGA camera and low resolution
screen are below average for phones in this price range. Although
a video camera is included, it is primitive and there's no flash
for the camera. MP3 tracks can be used as ringtones, although the
quality is not that great. The memory is tiny - just 4.2 Mbytes
- which isn't adequate for storing photos or ringtones. Overall
quality control for the 6103 has failed miserably - read the user
reviews below to find out just how many 6103's have broken and are
now in the bin. On the plus side, the keypad is quite nice to use
and the phone is well laid out. There is also a voice recorder,
and the phone has an FM stereo radio.
Features
of the Nokia 6103 include:
- VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels)
- Video camera & voice recorder
- Internal display: 65,536 colours, 128 x 160
pixels
- External display: 4096 colours, 96 x 65 pixels
- FM stereo radio
- MP3 ringtones / True Tones
- Voice dialling / voice commands
- Integrated handsfree speaker
- Caller ID
- Java games
- Messaging: SMS, MMS, E-mail
client (IMAP4, POP3, SMTP), Instant Messaging, Nokia Xpress audio
messaging
- XHTML web browser
- WAP, GPRS Class 10, HSCSD,
EDGE
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, Infrared, USB
- Memory: 4.2 Mbytes
- Vibration alert
- Triband
- Size: 85 x 45 x 24 mm
- Weight: 97g
- Talktime: 2 - 4 hours
- Battery standby: 150 - 350 hours

My Nokia 6103...is not a phone. With a real phone you get calls.
It rings. A phone should ring when you get a call, reliably. My
6103 rings SOMETIMES, other times not. It's not that I'm not HEARING
my phone... Sometimes it won't ring at all. Otherwise I hear a faint,
one-time 'beep'...I look at my phone and see I'm getting a call
on the display! Afterwards I check my settings for ring tone. It's
set ok but none of the gallery ring tones work. I scroll down each
one..nothing... then my Nokia 6103 has a seizure; scritches static-ly
and dies in a total black out! Hopelessly depressed, I close the
6103...and it comes back on! So I check out the ring tones again;
this time all are working--each playing their tune as I scroll through
them. I call my number from the land line and my phone rings now!
Well, that little ritual is how I have to fix my 6103 every so often...since
Nokia tech support couldn't figure it out or fix it (they tried)
and now they won't cuz it's out of warranty. I've had to perform
this ritual every month or so for the last year --don't know when
it's going to quit ringing, but it will, sooner or later. I'm missing
important calls...unless I catch that elusive, imperceptible, nearly
inaudible one-time 'beep' tip off. Too bad I just can't stop it
from telling people I'm busy, out of service or unavailable. Once,
as a test, I held my closed Nokia 6103 in one hand and called my
number with a land line phone in the other hand. My Nokia 6103 said
I was BUSY! Later found out my 6103 tells callers I'm out of the
service area or out of service altogether...but I'm not. I'm right
here with a good signal and a fully charged battery...just a pathetic
Nokia 6103 cell phone. How do I know? Callers know I'm NOT out of
service or out of the service area; they immediately called back
and told me my phone was lying to them! Do you know what your Nokia
6103 is telling callers? Mine says, "I'm a lying, undependable, low
quality, budget Nokia 6103 'sometimes' impostor cell phone hardly
worth even a one star rating. Say NO to NOkia.

I really, really love this phone. Just that the memory is so small
for a lot of ring tunes. But besides, I usually download short ring
tunes to fit a space. I hope Nokia will improve the memory status
in future.

Concrete, in fact everything and everywhere and was accidentally
kicked across the road once. It is the strongest and most robust

Nice phone. It looks stylish and has good features. But what good
is a feature like slideshow for my screensaver when I can only hold
about 10-15 pics??? What good is the ability to download files from
the web browser to your phone when the handful of pictures you have
need to get deleted to make space??? I have fallen in love with
this phone since it was a free promo and came with soo many features
(for a free-be). But if the joke that they call memory isn't improved
what good is it realy?

Bought a Nokia 6103 on August 24th as a second phone. Brought it
home in the box, put it on the kitchen counter and rarely even used
it as it is not my primary phone. It never left home and was NEVER
used outdoors. Exactly one week after purchase three horizontal
white lines appeared on the LCD display. Seems Nokia quality isn't
what it used to be. Although the phone has all of the features I
want, having it fail after just one week of almost no usage is simply
not reasonable. Shame on Nokia for making such a poor quality product.
Motorola will get all of my business from now on.

a die-hard NOKIA and flip fan!! And i reeeeeeeeallly liked wht features
in it. I mean its got all the stuff u need in one phone!!. cool
eh? HOWEVER, things started to take a twist for the worse. I had
and HAVE a lot of problems now. YES!! i'm still using it..cos icant
afford a new one. :(. I'l tell u all the probelsm i have so far
1) The range on the mobile went off and refused to come back for
som reason. I had to give it back and they fixed it for me. But
it still happend ocassionally 2) The front cover is coming out.
I havea tape stuck on the front to avoid its insides from jumping
out. 3) very low memory. Cant store a lot of stuff in it. and there
is no way to extend the memory as well 4) It tends to goof up and
get stcuk wen u need it most 5) The earphones that came along with
it are not workign properly now. i dont knwo if its the phones problem
or the earphones problem. 6) Whenever i put in a lot ofsettings..it
hangs and i have to bring it back to the original settings again.
So i have stopped trying to custimise the phone. which is big dissapoint
ment for me All this said..i still use the phone. So i better respect
it eh??You might want to think again before buying this one. But
it is agreat buy if ure low on budget,,,cos it has all the needed

i regularly empty the inbox. Likes to turn itself off occcassionally
and battery goes flat quite quickly. And as of new years it has
started flashing white every 3 or so seconds. new phone for me i
think. not another one of these though

Worst phone that I ever bought. It had problems from get go. Cover
started peeling off. Left keypad marks on the LCD screen and died
within 3 months. Called T-Mobile and they told me it's because of
water damage. Took it to a T-Mobile store and they told me that
there is no signs of water damage but since there is a RED dot underneath
the battery, it's probably caused by exposure to moisture or rain.
I tried to tell the guy that if that's the case then it's a manufacturing
defect but he didn't listen. Don't buy this phone.

Bought this phone for Christmas. I think it's ok however, there
is not enough memory I can only have one mp3 ringtone tried deleting
some of the games to increase storage, oops big mistake. This phone
could have been a lot better if it had the memory of the Nokia 6230
minus the memory card. Next time Nokia decides on making a flip
phone they should check out motorola

Worst phone nokia ever built. Bad sound, cosmetic failure, the rubber
layer keeps coming out, even though I take care of it really well.
And the latest problem, my keypad lights remain on 24/7 draining
the battery twice a day. Don't buy it.

Slow response time, poor photo quality, the keypad leaves marks
on the display, low memory. Apart from that, the FM radio is handy
with a good sound. You do need to attach the headphones first though
as they act as an antennae. Easy to use, clear menus. Looks nice!
Wouldn't buy it again if I had the chance.

good gsm only if it is a gift from somebody you like it. materials
are fine and no cracking body sound at all. mine gsm survived four
extremly bad impact and it is still ok. fm radio works fine and
stdby/talk time is sufficient (5days/5hours). keypad is pleasent
to type. bt and irda are ok. on the other hand, it cost a lot of
money, and it have only about 2mb of memory (somebody said 4.2mb?
wow, not on mine handy. maybe my gsm provider stole it?), furthermore
it has external antena and rocker switch on left side which is realy
rocker (it moves in all direction and makes some rattle noises)!
nice keypad, that i mentioned before, leaves some nasty marks on
plastic cover of lcd. if you like to buy nokia gsm, it's good idea
to take some other model.

First of all. You cannot trust the alarm. If you are planning to
use your phone as an alarm clock, you cannot use this phone, as
sometimes the alarm will not ring. Sometimes it will show on the
display, but with no sound. If you have received a service sms message
before the alarm should ring, then the alarm will not ring until
you have opened the phone and read the message, and the alarm starts
rinning, even though it should have been rinning hours ago.... Vibration
is not very high. Backgrounds and ringtones that come with the phone
are terrible, but ofcourse you can just put new ones. That is if
you buy a datacable or have bluetooth. The sound when making a call
is not good. It's kind of muffled, and low volume sounds tends to
dissapear. Similar to the problem with the samsung phones.... The
phone has 4.2 MB, BUT only about 2 of those are availabe for you
to use, and most of those 2 are filled up with the sounds, pictures
and programs that come with the phone, and there's only 800KB left
for you. So even if you delete everything, there's only 2 megs left,
wich is just not enough.

is bluetooth... which should have been in the 6101 anyway considering
when it got released... This phone is just a rip... Don't get it.
Very slow responses... Bad camera (NOT average; BAD). Sound quality
is not that great, and not enough memory

i really like the look of the phone altough i have to admit some
of the features are a bit out of date if ya know what i mean. one
problem im having with the phone is finding the mp3 on it. there
is no USB included or any other wires..... can anyone else help
me? katiehoygodeo@yahoo.com overall, i would say, if you wanna nice
phone with a gud camera and other jazzy features, dont go for this
one as it is a basic fone but also an easy-to-manage one.

I wasn't in the market because I still had the (justly) famous 6310i
but it died (from a cc or two of beer splashed on the keyboard...a
note about that here: WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE WATERPROOF KEYPADS?! Mobile
phones get used OUTDOORS, where it sometimes RAINS..). So I went
looking for a new phone (I work for a mobile operator, btw) and
got the 6230i, thinking it was a suitable replacement. It isn't,
and I replaced it as quickly as I could (see my review of the 6230i
at RecommendedBuys, look via this site) with the 6103, which is
great. It has most of the modern features of the 6230i but with
a much bigger & more tactile keypad & 4-way navigation 'joy-key'.
The 6230i is also infamous for terrible batter life but the 6103
is quite ok in this regard (they're all poorer now because of color
displays and more processing power): at least several days. Screen
is very bright and keypad very well backlit, very easy to use at
night. I don't care about megapixels and built-in MP3 players etc,
but the 6103 has a serviceable camera and a pretty fine FM radio.
Good enough for me. But what I really like is the nice big useable
keypad and the intuitive Nokia interface (always their strength).
Having long thought folding designs will win out (they allow a large
display and a large keypad), I've also discovered what might be
an even bigger advantage: folding protects both the display from
getting scratched and the keys from being inadvertantly pushed.
It's small and attractive (black exterior non-slip 'skin' very nice
in the hand) but opens to a 'real phone' format (you can whisper
into it and be heard, whereas with tiny phones, the microphone is
up by your cheekbone, picking up background noise). Very fine phone
that offers a lot but is probably getting overshadowed by the bells
and whistles crowd. Well worth checking out!

NO THANK YOU I bought the phone seriously thinking i was getting
a good deal i got ripped. Bad screen resolution, slow menu responses,
no extendable memory, very poor camera with no zoom or flash, no
room 4 music (4mb total memory) and still the sound quality was
poor. Average batterty life. Good connectivity tho with infared,
bluetooth and USB (u have to pay $80aus extra to have it tho). It
comes with a bluetooth headset which is very uncomfortable and clumsy.
When i first got it the bluetooth didnt work i had to go get it
replaced that was very annoying. All up good phone for someone who
was in a very boring buisness lyk accountants because this phone
has nothing interesting for a lot of money. NOT WORTH IT.
