Nokia 6080 Review

Phone rating:

Review: November 2006.

The Nokia 6080 is a very slightly updated version of the Nokia 6070. It's an entry-level camera phone with a smart, simple design. The design is virtually the same as the 6070, and the features are almost identical.

The features of this phone are limited: a basic camera and video recorder, a stereo FM radio, small memory (4.3 Mbytes of user memory), no Bluetooth connection. The phone's best selling point is its looks - it's undeniably smart. You might also consider the Motorola L6 or Sony Ericsson K310i as alternatives.

Features of the Nokia 6080 include:

  • VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels)
  • Video camera
  • Display: 65,536 colours, 128 x 160 pixels
  • Video player
  • Stereo FM radio (stereo headset included)
  • MP3 ringtones / 24 voice polyphonic ringtones
  • Voice recorder
  • Messaging: SMS, MMS, email (IMAP4, POP3, SMTP), Instant Messaging
  • Nokia Xpress audio messaging: send a recorded voice clip via MMS
  • Push to talk
  • Voice dialing
  • Speed dialing
  • Integrated handsfree speaker
  • Java games
  • xHTML web browser
  • Memory: 4.3 Mbytes user memory
  • Connectivity: Pop-Port, infrared
  • WAP, GPRS Class 10, HSCSD, EDGE
  • Triband
  • Size: 105 x 44 x 18.6 mm
  • Weight: 91g
  • Talk time: 3.5 hours
  • Battery standby: 300 hours

Unfortunately I bought a Nokia 6080. I have had to return to CPWarehouse 6 times to complain about this model. It was bought in December 2007 and today after 3 replacement 6080`s Nokia has finally agreed to change the phone model.Apparently their policy is that even if their product is defective Nokia insist that the phone is replaced 3 times before they will change the model; they would not make a refund. They must think that we customers have nothing better to do than visit shops to complain about a defective product. Each of the three phones had the same problem, that is when you are making or receiving a call the numbers dial automatically making a beep noise. However the real problem is that when you are trying to leave a message on somebody`s mailbox the automated mailbox system receives the numbers that you have not pressed and reacts accordingly, perhaps even closing down the message. The numbers it dials itself are generally 6 or 5 sometimes once or twice but often many many times during the call. If the phone is pay as you go you will have problems inputting the voucher numbers as unpressed numbers keep dialling. On the third phone exchange the CPW salesman said he thought it was an incompatibility issue between the phone and the sim card; however I replaced my husband`s simcard in the phone and he tried it for a week but had the same problem. My simcard worked on his different phone. Nokia apparently are in denial that there is a problem with this phone, however in my experience I have had 3 phones now with the same fault.I will leave you to decide whether to buy this type of phone. If you look at the varios chat rooms there are many people with the same complaint about this model. Why don`t Nokia just admit the problem and replace the offending products without all this resistance.

Only 3 stars for now but will upgrade to 5 stars if the replacement is trouble free. It cant be anything else really at this price.

It's a great phone if you don't take alot of pictures and don't send a lot of SMSes. I do like to send tons of SMSes a day and the memory just runs out. I do have to say that it is very tough! I've managed to drop it several times, one time being a full one floor and it has never blacked out. Today it fell into a toilet and even though it was there for a little while it never stopped working, so it's also waterproof! If it had more memory and bluetooth I would honestly not think about replacing it for a while. PS:I have never had the self-pressing buttons problem.

I purchased this Nokia 6080 phone on 22nd Sep 07. I noticed that the keys 4,5&6 keep pressing themselves right from the first call. Initially i thought that i was pressing the phone too close to my face. But then i noticed that even when i am using the speaker option, this problem occurs. I gave it to the Nokia care centre on 23rd Oct 2007 and they called back after a week that the phone cannot be repaired and hence i will be provided a new 6080. I collected the warranty replacement phone on 6th Nov 07. I was surprised to find that the warranty replacement phone also has the same problem. I have returned the phone back to the Nokia care centre on 9th Nov 07. Does anyone have any experience of getting this phone repaired for this problem?

To sum it up, if you're looking for a really fancy phone, you need to be elsewhere. I've had this phone for about an year now, and that's all it is to me. A phone, and i must say, it looks stunning. On the downside, there's no bluetooth and no memory, it does have an IR port, which means it can interface with Sony, although I don't quite see the point in that. It looks hot, but you have to be really careful with it. It doesn't have changeable faceplates, so you're stuck with the black thing for the rest of the phones' life and it's prone to getting scratched (smooth as it is). A potential problem, is that you can't see jack in the daylight. You just get this sort of film over it and all you can see is your bloody face. That's the one major downside i can think of now. The camera is on of the best VGA cameras I've seen, but please please keep them on the phone and don't send em to your computer, they're not meant to be. Another irritant is the charger, but I guess it's getting better since all the N series sport the same thin ass charger, The headset that they provide with this is simply outstanding, and i love the buttong, including volume control, PTT, voice activation and integrated radio station changer. The headset is a beauty. Very sturdy and stable, what it can do, it will do well. It looks and feels rock solid, i've dropped it a coupla times too. So if a phone is what your looking for, a phone is what you'll get. And the camera is less disappointing than a 1.3 MP. So if you don't mind the minor irritants, please consider this phone. That's only if all you want is a phone, for christs sake!!!

Very disappointed, when making calls the numbers 456 keep coming up causing a bleeping sound that your caller can also hear. This is not caused by me pressing the buttons as I placed the phone on a table and it still does it without even holding the phone. It looks good and can send texts fine but whats the point if you cant make or receive calls properly. Only had the phone for 2 days, taking it back to carphonewarehouse in ashton under lyne tomorrow to change it for an entirely different phone.

As I was saying the 6080 is a very good phone for your money, as it clear and sends out texts OK and I used the camera for emergencies only. And another thing that if your phone got stolen it won't cost much to replace it. This 6080 is worth a 4 star. GREAT STUFF

I like the fact there is no Bluetooth. Why? Because, on this phone, this technology is pointless. I have a model with 2.4 mb free memory, and only thing I can get from Bluetooth is a virus. That is why you have an IC port, because this phone is designed for sharing data with other phones, not with a computer. To sum up: if you want a better performance, you have to buy more expensive phone.

The phone looks very nice, however the buttons are very annoying to use and the overall feeling of the phone is very cheap. The back of the phone is very thin and would probably break easily. However I do like the screen, it is large and easy to view, the sound quality from the phone is good, loud speaker works well. I paid £33 which also included a £10 topup. I would not recommend this phone if you are looking for something to last any longer than a year. Or if you will be sending alot of txt's as buttons are very uncomfortable.

So your brain doesn't get fried. Very easy to use. Still has some good features for you to play about with. It looks good too, in my opinion. THIS PHONE IS THE BEST! I got this phone about a week ago, and it is really good! it looks awesome, has unique bars instead of keys (which is something new). I love how big and 'rectangular' the screen is as opposed to the normal square small screens. It makes me feel really comfortable. Even though it lacks some of the main features that modern phones have, a phone is used for texting and calling and storing numbers. sure, the bluetooth and camera stuff will be appealing at first, but after a day or two, it won't really matter, since you'll only be texting and calling people. what all those other gadgets are for is just to appeal to the audience and try and sell it. i borrowed money from my parents to buy this...im $188 BND in dept, sadly =(.... I LOVE THIS PHONE! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE! you dont need bluetooth, cameras, mp3 players and stuff on a phone! thats why i have my IPOD and my digital camera for! all those other things are just a waste... 1000/10!!!!!!!

With this price range it is a good phone. But also I feel like been cheated by NOKIA. As I was told when purchased from Carrefore Hyper in Jeddah - that it had Pop-Port connectivity. But when I opened the pack - found no cable - no CD for software. I was able to connect the cable that I use with my 7610 but it did not work. I called Nokia's so called "technical executive" who in fact surprised me with the news that it needs a special USB cable (CA-42) which has a sort of firmware in it. And the price of the original Nokia cable (CA-42)is almost half the price of phone itself. And on the top of it - it is not available anywhere in Jeddah. I have checked with Al-Haddad and Xicom and all the shop at Palistine road and Sharafia as well as at the Hail st. mobile phone market. In Jeddah if you add the price of 6080 with its ca-42 cable's price you can easily have 7610 which not only have cable and software but also has better resolution, a lot more memory and an excellent music. This is the Nokia's speciality that there are a lot lot of models in Nokia. and if you check carefully each one's features and compare them with their prices - you will get easily confused as to how they price their models. So if any readers has got any suggestions - please let me know.

this phone's best quality is its looks which is really sleek. and the price is okay for the average guy. stereo is okay. but the disadvantages are quite a few--poor memory. poor cam. no blue tooth. i dont know why it got all these raving reviews. i recommend a potential buyer to look around.

I think this phone is amazing,a must buy for 11 year olds and it's their first phone It looks great just like the phone itself, its easy to use and is really cheap for a great phone! Instead of buttons it has bars which I think is better because buttons just get scratched and wear out A must buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks nice to me, Yes it lacks some few things but I rank it the best among many I have ever used. It is not much expensive and can give what one needs. I recommend it for people from third world since they don't need much of advanced technology as they have no where to apply it. keep uo NOKIA

I think that Nokia 6080 is very good mobile phone. She has a infrared port, mms and radio. It's very good and easy phone. Unfortunately, she should has a bluetooth technology, because it's very fine option.

It's a very a very affordable phone with all the basic requirements plus a few more. Large text/font makes it easy to read at a glance. The photo screen is a bit too small and low res to be meaningful. The radio quality is not bad but it's not stereo. Easy to use jog buttons and fairly long battery life. Smart casual design. Value for money.
