In a nutshell: Nokia's first touchscreen phone is impressively
good. It may not have quite the polished feel of the iPhone, but
with so many good features, it's in many ways better than the iPhone.
Headline features include the very high resolution touchscreen with
16 million colours, the 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics,
3G video calling, an excellent web browser with support for Flash,
the music player & FM radio, GPS positioning with Nokia Maps,
WiFi, Bluetooth and an 8GB memory card. Available in black, red
or blue. Best buy: *Free* with free line rental or £150 auto
cashback from Mobiles.co.uk

Review:
February 2009. Updated March 2009.
We've waited a heck of a long time
for Nokia to catch up with Apple, LG and Samsung and launch a touchscreen
phone. And here it is at last! It's a 3G smartphone, and belongs
to Nokia's XpressMusic range.
At first glance, it looks like it was worth the
wait. It's a very stylish handset. All touchscreen phones tend to
look pretty much the same to be honest. What distinguishes the 5800
is its sleekness: it's much narrower than the iPhone
3G, in fact with a width of 52mm, it's probably the narrowest
touchscreen phone around. This means that you can easily operate
it with one hand. It has a lovely big screen too, with a very high
resolution (640 x 360 pixels), which helps to make the user interface
easier to use. The device has a wide range of input options: finger
touch, stylus and plectrum with a virtual alphanumeric keypad, full
and mini QWERTY keyboards and handwriting recognition. The display
will rotate automatically when you turn the phone to landscape mode.
Normally the XpressMusic phones have dedicated buttons for music,
and the 5800 has a dedicated virtual media bar for quick access
to music controls, as well as functions like the gallery and web
browser. There are also physical keys for power, send and end, menu,
screen lock and volume. The big question is: "Is the touchscreen
on the 5800 as good as the iPhone?" Sadly, no. But it isn't
at all bad. It's just that you need to use the stylus sometimes
and the whole experience isn't quite so much fun. But stick with
the review, because the 5800 has a lot going for it, and beats the
iPhone in a number of departments.
The 5800 has a proper camera for a start. At 3.2
megapixels it isn't the best camera phone by a long way, but it
uses Carl Zeiss optics, has autofocus and a double LED flash and
leaves the iPhone standing. It also has a decent video camera, which
can record at up to 640 x 480 pixels and at 30 frames per second,
with stereo sound. A front-mounted video camera enables you to make
video calls on a 3G network.
The music player in the 5800 is excellent too.
We found the touchscreen controls to be very easy here, and all
the features that you'd hope for are here, including an 8-band graphic
equaliser and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone is supplied with
an 8GB memory card, which can store up to 2,000 MP3 tracks (or 4,000
in AAC format), and if your music collection grows even bigger,
you can upgrade this to a massive 16GB. The optional Comes
With Music feature gives you unlimited music downloads for a
whole year! There's also a built-in FM radio. No complaints for
music then.
The 5800's big touchscreen is ideal for web browsing.
With very fast download speeds thanks to the 3G HSDPA implementation
and a quality web browser, there's nothing to hold you back. The
5800 beats the iPhone here too, with support for Flash meaning that
you can watch videos from YouTube and other sites on your phone.
The phone is also WiFi compatible, so you can get super fast data
transfer speeds in the vicinity of a WLAN network or a WiFi Hotspot.
GPS is included too, together with Nokia Maps.
As well as 3G and WiFi, the connectivity options include Bluetooth
and USB, plus a TV-Out connection (cable supplied.)
The 5800 XpressMusic is a Series 60 phone, and
potentially there are going to be a lot of third-party apps available
for downloading too. You get a couple of games and the standard
Series 60 organiser applications with the phone, including document
browsers and a good organiser.
Finally, we want to mention that the battery life
is very good. Phones like this do tend to get used rather a lot,
and big screens are hungry for power, but the battery capacity seems
to be up to the job.
The sales package is generous, including all the
cables you'll need, a stereo headphone, an 8GB memory card, a case,
a stand and a stylus. The phone is available
in black, red and blue too.
We weren't sure what to expect from Nokia's first
touchscreen phone. It's obviously spent a lot of time in the design
studio, and it looks like Nokia wisely resisted the temptation to
rush something out. The 5800 no doubt has the occasional bug (all
smart phones do), but these are few and will probably be ironed
out pretty quickly with firmware updates. The 5800 XpressMusic manages
to combine the benefits of touchscreen, without many downsides,
and avoids being just another iPhone clone thanks to Nokia's attention
to detail. It may not be perfect, but we're impressed by just how
good it is, and it would be churlish to award anything less than
5 stars.
Just a footnote: some people have got the impression
that the 5800 automatically includes Nokia's
"Comes With Music" service, which gives you free music
downloads for a year. This is not the case. Unless the product is
described as "Nokia 5800 Comes With Music" then it's just
a standard Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. Hope this clears up the
confusion!

John (below) evidently has a duff phone or maybe he has abused it.
I have been using the 5800 on O2 for three months and it has never
shut down or frozen. This phone trashes the iPhone 3G, which I have
tried and also beats anything that Samsung or LG can throw at the
market. I have tried a lot of the touchscreen phones while waiting
for Nokia to release this, and I genuinely believe that this is
the best. And it's a bargain too! Here's a tip - read the reviews
below, and check out the quality of the reviews themselves. The
guys complaining about this phone hardly ever write anything, and
often can't spell. The best, most intelligent and most articulate
reviewers give this phone 5 stars. What does this tell you? Read
the main review above - these guys are professionals and know what
they are talking about. Rating:

This phone no doubt slaughters the iphone. Its just a shame that
it is constantly shutting down automatically. I thought it was just
me when i filled the on-board memory with apps but i was wrong.
I don't know what it is but i am going to take it back to O2 to
replace it because i don't know what else to do. It would be one
of the greatest touch screen phones of all time if it wasn't shutting
down all of the time. Rating:

OK, so after over 6 years with my seimens A50(!) i finally plumped
for the 5800 (after a period of 2 yrs um...ing and ar...ing over,
first the LG Venus, various samsung models (pixon/soul), LG Renoir
etc). I was going to get the renoir, but so many people have commented
on LGs poor after sales support and lack of firmware updates. I
hope you can tell from this that i dont take such things lightly
- having studyed all of the above. Well, this phone blew me away!
Very responsive touch screen, good tariff @ £15 p/m 100mins unlimited
txt with o2, good camera with the possibility of improvement with
new firmware (o2 STILL havn't adopted v20 yet Arron! - note to the
ed: please could you update your review for v20 as it is said to
improve the phone even further so that we can see what we are missing?),
amazing music, long battery life etc. etc. I could go on. In fact,
the only thing i can find wrong with it is the handwriting recognition
is a bit rubbish, and the top right front of my handset cover appears
to be a bit loose (even the replacement they sent me - does anyone
else have this problem?). A cracking phone then - u wont be dissapointed
if you buy it! Ps: the camera is similar/the same as the excellent
3.2mp camera in the 6500 slide, which is very highly rated, so you
have the complete package here, plus an adjustable graphic equaliser
(not just presets) which many phones DON'T have, which makes a huge
difference (to me anyway). Rating:

I got this phone a couple of days ago and cannot fault anything
on it. I do a lot of texting and MMS and needed a phone that had
these features included (not so with the iPhone) without breaking
the bank (not so with the iPhone either). I love the tactile feedback
of the phone - the "clickyness" when you have pressed a button makes
that you know exactly when you have pressed it. I don't know how
some reviewers have said they don't know if they have touched it
or not (maybe they had the tactile feedback turned off??). We browser
is great, email support is fantastic. Asks you if you want to setup
for Pop3 or IMAP even from online providers like Gmail. Sound on
this is FANTASTIC - blown away by the quality. 16:9 screen with
DivX and Flash support out of the box. Wake up Apple. Battery life
is also VERY good even when using 3G HSDPA or music player. GPS
is also awesome - I have a Tom-Tom GPS and this phone's GPS receiver
picks up better than the TomTom indoors for instance. Symbian OS
so you are bound to have many many apps, as well as JAVA support.
And then comes the Price - AFFORDABLE! Get one! Rating:

problem for me was the sensitivity of the touchscreen, i found that
i was having to push fairly hard. I just like to be quick at texting

This phone is amazing and I've had a lot of phones! You can customize
almost anything on this phone and download applications such as
PaintPad (Great fun!=P) And even a virtual piano and guitar for
free. It has an amazing colour screen, the music player is simply
fantastic, easy to use and great for on the go, and the battery
life is superb. It is packed with applications and games, and with
8GB of memory, Wi-fi and BBC iPlayer it's impossible to get bored!
It's impossible to complain at this phone, it has everything, and
if it doesn't have something you want on it, you can download the
application. It works well with media transfer and downloads, its
simple and easy to use and is a pretty awesome design, the only
thing I'd watch out for is the stylus (Not that good quality but
does the job!) And the sreen (Easy to scratch). It's a lot better
than the LG Cookie and is truly the iPhone killer! The best deal
for this phone is a £15/month contract on 02, that gives you 100
minutes and 3000 texts to use per month, a bargain considering it's
£249 on Pay and Go. A phone absolutley guaranteed to amaze you,
you'll never get bored of it, don't get hung up on the iPhone, it
isn't that marvellous, this phone is well and truly the iPhone killer
and is guna take some beating to produce a better model. Rating:

I've been wanting to change my phone for a while and after reading
the reviews i chose the 5800. I'm glad i did, it's a great little
phone...I just want to comment on a few issues mentioned by some
reviewers. Build quality is acceptable for the price point! come
on its selling at €289 on Prepay O2 in Ireland, that's a bargain
for the overall package. Camera quality is acceptable too, remember
its being sold as a MUSIC phone not a camera, but the photos i've
taken are excellent for 3.2mp, the camera settings have auto ISO
which you can set at 100ISO this will resolve some of the grain
issues on indoor shots. Touch screen, is great i've had a few touch
screen mobiles and yes it can be a bit fussy with 2 touches and
1 touch, but the on screen keypads are easy to use and it's just
not worth arguing over a few niggles. Video playback is great and
the wide screen is very watchable... In my view GO GET ONE today!!

I had this phone for 3 days. Lot of good features, video is excellent,
speaker quality v. good too and all quite intuitive to work but
I have trouble with the touch screen. It has long delays and it
really needs the stylus to be accurate enough to work well. These
things combined mean that as a phone I have found it v. frustrating,
takes me too long to send a text or select a contact etc. Therefore
am returning for a non touch screen phone. Other negatives are that
the camera is quite grainy and battery life for me is not enough.
First 2 days it ran out before the day was out. Much of this may
be the same for any smart phone but for me I need a fast, easy to
handle phone first and foremost and this doesnt quite fit the bill.

I had this phone for 30 days but I returned it to the store, why?
basically because of the touch screen! The big deal from Nokia with
this phone is the touch screen, but it just isnt good enough which
is a shame as the rest of the phone is pretty good! The problem
as I said is the touch screen which is sluggish, you have to make
sure you have pressed properly but you lose confidence in the phone
because you are not sure if your 'press' was registered or not,
so you then press again! Also some items need 1 press and others
2 which is odd, but for a first attempt at a touch screen phone
its OK but it drove me crazy, hence the reason I returned it. I
know Nokia CAN make good touch screen gadgets as I had the Nokia
N800 for over a year and the touch screen on that item was much
better than the 5800. However I am waiting for the new 3rd gen iphone
out in June (prob Nov in UK). 2009 is THE year for touch screen
phones, so DONT get the Nokia 5800 until you have seen/tried the
other models below, or you will regret it for at least 18 months!
- Nokia N97, iphone (3rd gen), HTC G2, HTC Touch Diamond2, LG Arena,
LG Versa, Toshiba TG01, Motorola Touch ZINE, ASUS P835, Samsung

are the build quality (but I intend to get a crystal case soon)

UPDATE TO MY EARLIER REVIEW. MY PHONE FROZE UP ON ME 2 DAYS AGO.
I WAS ABOUT TO SWEAR A LOT BUT.... I calmed down, counted to 10
and turned off capslock.... I remembered the problem that I had
had with my Son's G600 (battery contact problem) and so I had a
look at the 5800 battery contacts. I found that these too were prone
to disconnection after a sharp knock ( even when the phone was enclosed
in the excellent protective pouch that comes with this phone.. no-one
ever mentions just how brilliant this is especially when you thread
the stand cord through it so you can admire your beautifull 5800
on it all day before placing it back in its case for the journey
home.. sheer genius.. but back to the battery.. I found that after
it had locked up the phone would turn on again but go dead after
a while and not accept any key presses which was a pain because
it is very hard to tell this phone is on a lot of the time due to
its excellent power saving capabilities ( they are superb by the
way! how many other phones do you know that cut the power to the
screen when the phone senses that it is near your ear?) anyway the
solution is very simple.. just sellotape a bit of paper to the battery
on the opposite side of where the contacts are which will puch them
more firmly into the phone contacts 1mm to 2 mm thick should do
it. heh and look at my previous review I think I mentioned first
about the camera faults being firmware related... other excellent
points about this phone are almost instantaneous GPS lock 10/15
seconds as opposed to 5 minutes with N95 8gb, IPLAYER superb, wifi
- picks up networks better than my laptop, sound quality better
than n95 due to speaker position, touch screen is very good havent
used iphone yet but this is so good i dont feel that i have to...
I LOVE THIS PHONE.. JAKE 25th FEB: dont give up on it .. camera
will be fixed by nokia i think.. Still loving this phone, video
camera is shown up by 10year old son's samsung G600.... and wife's
nokia 6500 slide (which was mine originally). I gave my wife the
6500 after getting a n95 which was nice but a bit slow, even slower
when I dropped it down the toilet... so I got an N95 8GB which I
still have but as soon as I saw the 5800 I had to have it... The
point of this babbling is that I still would not buy a N96 instead
of this and the N95 8gb is in its box..... tiny bit disappointed
with vid cam and cannot get front cam to work. I am hoping that
vid cam problem is firmware related and is a low light sensor issue..
I have upgraded to firmware 11.09 but no difference.... roll on
v20 firmware... Rating:

I've had SE phones for around the last 10 years so was very reluctant
to move to Nokia. However, in the absence of anything decent from
SE, I took the plunge. This really is an excellent phone (not outstanding),
as there are a number of basic things I am very suprised Nokia have
not included: 1) no option to insert a smiley without building one
from commas etc 2) music player does not automatically resume from
last listened to song. Particularly annoying if listening to a mixed
CD etc. 3) No last numbers/contacts used on text message menu. (it
is possible to set up a list of groups as a workaround) 4) No stopwatch/timer
function within the clock/calculator/apps 5) Contact picture does
not show up when receiving a text. Im a fairly heavy text user and
have found the touch screen absolutely excellent, however the predictive
text does not seem as good as SE's T9. Build quality seems to be
fine. No problems so far after 3 weeks operation. Most notable plus
versus my previous SE's - battery life. It really is incredibly
good. I had to charge my SE's at least every 2nd night and generally
every night. This thing goes on for days! Would recommend this phone
if you can live with some basic functions Nokia seem to have overlooked.

TIP - the screen is, for want of a better term, 'fingernail optimised'
(which is why you'll find a plectrum in the box to complement the
stylus). If you get into the habit of (gently) using your fingernail
to touch and scroll, you'll find this phone as fast and responsive
as any other touchscreen phone on the market. My condensed review
proceeds as follows - PROS: great screen (tech specs speak for themselves
in this regard); fast interface (will be even faster when O2 condescend
to authorise v20 firmware); range of great third party apps already
large and set to expand rapidly as sales grow; text message lists
show date and time details and can be organised in groups, Outlook
style (unlike the N95); popular Java apps such as Gmail and Opera
Mini are touch-enabled, and can be used either full-screen or with
a virtual keyboard on the lower third of the screen; relatively
good support and customer service, unlike the awful Samsung and
the inexplicably diabolical LG equivalent; outstanding PC software.
CONS: Not keen on the red strip around the unit - plain black would
make it look sleeker and more mature (no choice with O2); no 'recently
used' option with the text message function, and no info on or photo
of sender with sms alerts on the standby screen (a bizarre limitation
of all Symbian 60 'smartphones'); unlock button feels a little flimsy
and I have concerns about its long-term durability; strangely, there
are no bracket characters - ( ) - in full screen QWERTY mode, unless
someone can tell me where to find them. I will withhold judgement
on the camera until I am able to install v20 firmare, after which
I am confident the results will be at least as good as the Nokia
6500 slide (which has an excellent camera). Rating:

Ive been a committed Sony Ericcson user for the past 4 years thinking
Nokia had lost the plot. Then I discovered the 5800. WOW!!!!! What
a fab piece of kit. I love it love it love it. I've been looking
at the iphone for the past few months, but this is FAR better than
the iphone with non of the nasty price tag. the size is far more
realistic, menus easy to follow, music and picture capability is
great. No comment on battery life as yet, but my partner is very

Me again. Just did the firmware update..... Response time much,
much faster. New features - dictionary is a nice touch, plus full
activation of the front camera. Played quickly with the main camera,
and image processing seems to have improved. A lot of the graininess
has gone. Screen response also much, much better. And screen movements
much more fluid and those that were a little flickery have gone.
So firmware update is a must - and the result is brilliant. 2 months
now - nothing broken, and I continue to love it. And now I'd put
it above the iPhone. Not for aesthetics or screen movement, but
for functions, ease of use, practicality, and size.... Rating:

i have looked long and hard at this phone and like it a lot. Was
going to get it, but stopped short because of the camera problems
(note to arron below - please let us know how you get on with the
firmware update). The 6510 slide had an excellent camera (came out
with a 5G rating on fives, the gadget show, i seem to remember,
so it MUST be a software problem). I love the fact that it has a
3.5mm socket on top of the phone - good for inserting into a pocket
- and the fact it has a graphic equaliser to bring out the treble,
unlike a lot of phones (i.e. the renoir). If the firmware brings
the camera at least up to 6510 slide standards then i will be getting
it (and adding the extra star to my rating ;-)). Rating:

Had this phone for almost a week now and i'm most impressed with
it. Ok if you've never used a touchscreen phone (and i for one hadn't)
it does take a bit of getting used to but once you do it's a breeze!
I see lots of 5800's up for sale simply because people give up way
too easily. The phone feels good in the hand and credit to Nokia
here, they do supply you with an 8gb memory card unlike stingy sony
ericsson who as a rule charge extra for this, also in the box are
a decent set of headphones, a couple of styluses and a decent case
too. The screen quality is spot on, very clear. The touchscreen
itself works very very well in my opinion. Music quality is amazing
and loud as well. As a phone the sound quality is very clear. The
phone has lots of nifty little functions and all in all i'm well
impressed with it. As for the camera i can't say i've really bothered
with that side of it, that same old argument, if you want to take
decent pics then use a proper digi camera. For those of you out
there who are contemplating getting the 5800, don't contemplate
anymore...get out there and buy it...you'll love it! P.S: As i said

I have ordered this phone from O2 this morning spending a ridiculous
amount of time researching online. I will write a full review after
a few weeks' use but I would like to advise other users that the
lastest firmware update (v20.0.012 , available through Nokia Software
Updater or OTA 'Over The Air') vastly improves the quality of the
image processing which is causing the disappointing results reported

over the excellent camera in the Nokia 6500 slide). It also adds
geotagging and improved the responsiveness of the touchscreen and

I'm realistic about a features/price ration here, and that accounts
for some of the build quality issues that there have already been
with the 5800. Thankfully Nokia's warranty is there to deal with
these. Though the company's bizarre approach to firmware updates
on this model according to region and provider needs to be addressed.
I have to point out something to potential buyers first and foremost.
Even for a mid level phone the camera is simply not good enough
on this phone. It is not up even up to the standard of cameras that
were appearing on Nokia and Sony Ericson phones two years ago. People
will argue that this phone is being marketed as a music device primarily
before a camera phone. it's still not excuse for the appalling image
quality. Elsewhere the 5800 has impressed me in terms of features
and the touchscreen quality - though obviously not up to the level
of Apple - does the job well. Will firmware updates in the future
address the camera's shortcomings? I'm not convinced but I'd like
to be surprised. However the way I see it, with the 5800's extensive
time in R&D meant Nokia knew exactly what they were putting on the
market. So in terms of the camera and video quality on this model
I say: buyer beware. Rating:

the numerous reviews and videos online , i wont review the boring
stuff ill leave that for a cyber nerd to do so ill tell you what
it did that impressed me and what it didnt do. GOOD : Music playback
, Ringtones , Text Alerts are EXTREMELY LOUD !!! User Interface
screens work real quick , Screen is bright clear and crisp , quite
slim handset for a touchscreen , excellent lock key to stop icons
being nudged accidently. BAD: Voice Dialling feature is terrible
getting about 1/100 atempts right unless you sound like a stephen
hawkings robot i seriously dont know why mobiles dont just follow
Sony Ericsson and have SPEAKER DEPENDANT DIALLING !!! so frustrating
!!! Text Messaging can be a pain not the typing just getting to
the text screen with a contact selected slows you down. The camera
is quite poor Carl Zeiss or not it aint a good camera very grainy
pics and the flash may aswell not be there. VERDICT ..... Fantastic
phone very responsive touchscreen and the volume beats all other
touchscreens ie PIXON , RENOIR , Xperia just the Voice Dialling
and Camera broke the deal for me so im selling it on eBay. It is
a music phone first and foremost so if you would be happy to have
a camera added then its the best phone available seriously but if
you want a more polished all round device then perhaps look elsewhere.....

After a lot of study l finally decided on this phone. I am a Sony
fan with a lovely but battered K750i. Brilliant phone but l lost
the battery cover last night so was pushed into making a decision.
And the Sonys seem to be a big problem. I need a reliable phone
as it is also a business phone. I want about 2gb for around 250
songs. I use the radio a lot for radio 4. I need a camera with flash
and autofocus and at least 3.2mp although 5 or 8 would have been
better as I use the camera a lot at work but l am open minded. An
alarm as again it is in use a lot. I do text but very heavy handed
on predictive. GPS and internet l am not interested in using via
a phone. The reports on the camera 5800 were a bit dodgy but l decided
to give it a go. As the rest was very good. The 5800 was very easy
to set up. I have never had a touch screen but on this camera that
was not a problem. I fell in love with it. I did discover that you
do not need to load the software that comes just tell the phone
to use the usb and my computer and phone linked. After a lot of
camera settings testing l finally settled on the best ones. Ok as
is said the photos were not great but they were ok. Most of my photos
will be taken indoors, on flash and close up. Similar lighting.
Went off to eat came back and realised the camera does not hold
it's settings. No use for me I take photos at work and need a standard
setting l do not have time to fiddle l need a point and shoot. So
the camera is going back in the morning and l will be back to looking.
It is a lovely phone. I am not normally a Nokia person and am very
upset that this phone is no use for me. I am awarding 4 stars because
you can not save the camera settings and that lets it down. Were
it not for that it would have been 5. And l would keep the camera.

Had this phone for four days and it's impressed me. Most impressive
is the speed at which you can navigate round. There's no lag at
all when going through the menus etc. The wireless is powerful,
picking up 7 networks in the pub the other night where a mate's
i-Phone couldn't get any. The 'virtual' QWERTY keyboard is also
easy to use with the stowable stylus (although I usually use the
alphanumeric one like an ordinary phone and it's as easy as using
a physical keypad.) You can set the level of vibration feedback
you get from the screen which is a nice touch (pun intended.) After
a full day since last charge and showing the phone off quite a bit
to mates etc. it still shows full charge. In the box you get a spare
stylus, strap with plectrum attached, video leads, USB cable, a
rubber case, headphones, charger and a stand for propping the phone
up for watching videos I assume. It also has the 8Gb micro SD card
preinstalled. I am a Nokia fan and have failed to get on with Samsungs
and Ericssons in the past. But it seemed that Nokia had fallen so
far behind the other manufacturers until now and at last they've
entered the touchscreen arena. They have made a good job of it.

I've owned a lot of phones in my time, and have never been biased
towards any particular manufacturer. There is no such thing as the
perfect mobile phone, each has it's high points as well as it's
low ones. I have finally arrived at the Nokia 5800. This particular
model is as close as I have come to what I could call 'Perfect'.
The operating system is a dream to use, and is also FAST, very fast
! My last phone was a LG KP500 (Cookie), and that was SO slow. No
problem with the 5800 however. You can enter text as fast as your
fingers (or stylus) will move. I never liked the Viewty, you only
had to breathe on the screen to open apps, something you DON'T want.
A good point on the 5800 is the side key to lock the screen, that
way you can't start the browser for instance as you put it in your
pocket. Mahesh - If you bought a 5800 made in China then you bought
a FAKE ! All the 5800's are made in Hungary. Rating:

Had this 5800 just yesterday lol Ever since I saw my professor having
this phone, I already fancied this until yesterday. First, touch
screen is not sensitive which is very good. I don't care if I have
to touch it twice just to navigate it at least I won't be irritated
because of it's sensitivity. and to Mahesh -- This is not made from
China, this was made on Hungary (that's what i've heard and read)
anyways. OVERALL.. I LOVE THIS PHONE =] Very good indeed. Rating:

Well done Nokia you have made what is - in my opinion - just about
the perfect phone ! Screen is simply awesome. Sound quality equally
so. Not sure why folks are moaning about the camera as it's more
than adequate. Dave also correctly alluded to the fact that this
is a Music phone ! Worried that texting with stylus might have been
slow, but finding it every bit as fast as using the fingers on a
conventional keypad. A stunning handset - and at a very low price. Rating:

Mahesh - this is a phone labelled as 'XpressMusic' - thats what
its for, MUSIC. If people want office applications and fancy cameras
then they should know better and look at other phones that specialise
in them. Why would you compare the 5800 to N73, they are totally
different in what they offer Rating:

Hey, Cindy....i know front camera is for video calling, we have
not that felicity in india, other all Nokia mobiles have secondary
camera selection option, in this mobile that function is missing,
without knowing secondary camera is working or not can you purchase
the mobile LOLL who came from lower end mobile to 5800 he/she loves
this naturally, higher end people cant like this mobile camera,
for cost cutting they did this trick, compare with other 3.2 megapixel
mobile, like a N73, before appreciating wake up and see what you

I think 5800 is not a Nokia product,This is a China made for footpath
sale, they printed 3.2 megapixel but it is 1.3 megapixel Touchscreen
china mobile, very poor camera, front camera is not working, no office
application, don't make a hurry to purchase wait for N97. Rating:

Very Poor camera and video!! 3,2 megapixel?? it look like 1,3 mega
pixel! The music n video player very good. Touchscreen responsive
realy poor too, cannot compare with Iphone!! U can see the dead
pixel, when u write the message (sms). Application is nothing, with
symbian 5th edition its very difficult to find some good application, games, themes, etc
in this tube. No Office application, very dissapointed. Still waiting

I had this phone for a month now, got it when I was back in HK.
I would rate it 9/10. First touch screen phone, upgraded from the
k800i. I have the Ipod Touch and comparing it with the 5800, I would
say all the 5800 is lacking it's touchscreen. Touchscreen scrolling,
somewhat seems to be stiff, not as smooth as my itouch. Another
flaw is the camera. Although it is 3.2mp with employing Carlz Zeissis
lens, it's performance is below average. Other than that, this phone
is close to perfect. Wide range music support, powerful speakers,
long, long battery life, handwriting recognistion, impressive video
reconiton, and S6OV5 operating system, which is going to be the
same as the N97. Overall I wouldrate this phone as a iPhone Killer.
Although the 5800 is a mid-range product, indicated through xpressmusic
branding, this phone should surely be one of the top n-series. Rating:

got to find a hotspot. Or just use the 3.5G for browsing. Rating:

I played around with this phone for quite a while in the Nokia shore.
In most respects the phone is outstanding, and is markedly superior
to Samsung's and LG's touchscreen phones with which it will compete.
My only reservation(based on my limited trial) was that the touchscreen
doesn't appear to be as sensitive as other touchscreens, certainly
not the iPhone - more pressure was needed to register a press of
the virtual buttons, specifically when writing a text message. This
may however be something that one grows accustomed to, and the virtual
interface is still lighter to use than most physical keypads. One
other prominent feature - the contacts screen (one of the three
available 'standby' screens) allows you to add thumbnails of your
four favourite contacts, with one click bringing up a list of all
recent commincations with that person. I'll be getting this phone
as an upgrade as soon as it's available on O2 contact. Rating:

Received as a Christmas present. First touchscreen phone, comming
from an old V3! First impressions are excellent - fast and easy
set up. Great features - easy to use overall. A bit tricky at first
remembering what's where for some of the options and set up features,
but once running it's a dream. I notice that in some of the menus,
the screen movement flickers a little. Maybe a hardware thing, or
maybe due to a software glitch. It's only on some of the menu movements.
Incorporated stylus is cheap plastic, and for those that use it
a lot will certainly break (lucky they include a spare). That said
it's not needed much with the full size qwerty keyboard option.
Functions are very easy - take a picture and send/store immediately.
Load music and use for ringtones or whatever... MP3 works well.
At least good enough for me. Loudspeakers are good - enough for
use on the move anyway. Camera is only 3.2Mp - works fine in the
day, but images seem very grainy at night. Maybe the settings, but
I've tried everything and always get similar results. My wife's
2Mp iPhone camera seems to consistently get better results for some
reason... Phone quality again is v.good - no problems with signal
strength, and caller is heard clearly. Videos played well. etc etc
etc. It's still new so we'll see how long until something happens,
but for now I'm very happy and so would definately recommend. Rating:
