Nokia 3250
Review
Phone rating:
The Nokia 3250 smartphone is an
excellent music player phone. It features a unique twisting design
that's intended to make the music player functions of the device
easy to access. The phone starts off with a conventional keypad
below the screen. Twist it once and the music player controls become
accessible. Twist it again and it's a 2 megapixel camera. Gimmicky
perhaps, but it works well enough and is fun too!
Let's look at the music potential
of the 3250 first. The phone is supplied with 128 Mbytes of memory
and this is expandable up to 1 Gbyte - not as much as an iPod, but
enough for a few hundred songs. There's also an FM radio with Visual
Radio functionality (find out what song is playing, who sings it,
and other artist information). Sound quality is very high, with
audio features such as an equalizer, stereo widening, reverb and
bass boost included. Stereo headphones are supplied with the phone,
and there's a 3.5mm jack for you to plug in your own high quality
headphones if you prefer. The twisting lower part of the phone might
be gimmicky, but it does allow you easy control of your music and
playlists. The Nokia Audio Manager CD supplied lets you rip songs
from a CD and transfer them to the phone in MP3 format. USB mass
storage functionality makes it easy to transfer songs between your
phone and a PC.
The camera is of reasonable quality,
with 2 megapixels with a digital zoom, but no flash unfortunately.
The video camera is good, and can record up to 1 hour of video.
A video editor is included in the applications. The display is a
high quality active matrix screen with 262k colours and a high resolution
- not as good as the screens on the Nokia
N80 or N90, but as good as other
smartphones such as the N70 or N91.
Weight and battery life are typical
for a smartphone. It's certainly not a lightweight phone, but it
weighs less than a phone plus an iPod! Many smartphones suffer from
reliability problems and can be slow accessing menus - we are pleased
to report that the 3250 seems to be mainly free of these problems.
Overall this is a good combined
phone & music player, with plenty of extra features too. The 3250
has now been replaced by the 5700
XpressMusic.
Features of the Nokia 3250 include:
- Smartphone (Series 60 Symbian
operating system)
- 2 megapixel camera with 4x digital
zoom
- Video camera (176 x 144 pixels,
15 frames per second, up to 1 hour recording)

176 x 208 pixels

RealAudio formats)

/ MP3 ringtones
- Ringtone composer
- Voice Features: Enhanced voice
dialing, Voice commands, Voice recording, Integrated handsfree
speaker
- Messaging: SMS, MMS, email (SMTP,
POP3, and IMAP4 protocols)
- Applications: File manager,
Organiser, Games, Downloadable Symbian and Java applications
- Caller ID with image
- Memory: 10 Mbytes plus microSD
card (expandable to 1 Gbyte)
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, USB
2.0
- WAP 2.0, GPRS class 10, EDGE
class 10 - download up to 236,8 kbit/s
- Advanced web browser
- Vibration alert
- Triband
- Size: 104 x 50 x 20 mm
- Weight: 130g
- Talktime: 3 hours
- Battery standby: 245 hours

Ok, DO NOT READ ANY OTHER REVIEWS...ONLY MINE IS A TRUSTED SOURCE!
Had this phone for a week, i think its a great quality phone, camera
is a very high grade 2 meagapixel camera, takes clear, crisp photos.
Video recorder on the other hand is average, not brilliant but not
bad. The general functions of the phone are also very good, radio
(and visual radio), and a straight forward easy to use mp3 player,
which i mut say is very good sound quality when using the headphones.
The Rotating keys makes it fun to use the camera and mp3 player...the
rotating feature is also very stong and sterdy AND WILL NOT BREAK
unless twisted with force! The design is a bit "bricky" but it does
have a sleek, sexy feel and look to it and the rotating keys are
always and added bonus when you want to show off to your mates.
Now the disappointing features...the loudspeaker quality is not
the best and is probably the reason why i gave this phone 4/5 instead
of 5/5...its not terrible but it doesnt compare to the sound quality
of the stereo speakers which you'll find on the Motorola Rokr (my
previous phone) but as i said before, the sound quality when using
the headphones is amazing! This phone is also the 3rd edition of
the S60 smartphone series, so it will NOT accept previos S60 software
but there is a growing market of great S60 3rd edition software.
This phone will also NOT hold upto 750songs as it says in the spec...when
using a 1BG micrco SD card it'll hold approx 250songs on high bitrate
or 300+ songs on very low bitrate. I would like to know though if
anyone knows if the Nokia 3250 will be able to take the newely released
2GB Micro SD cards? If it does it will give any music lover more
than enough space for all there music. Please could someone answer
my question at: jay_4_manutd@hotmail.co.uk

It is an excellent music player, but its 3rd generation Symbian
operating system made the phone goes nothing special. I've been
surfing around the net for months, searching any compatible software/application
such as office reader, photosafe, pdf reader and others that is
compatible to this phone but it's like you're searching for a needle
sunk deep in a worldwide ocean.

This is an excellent mobile phone, it has a good music player, which
is though sluggish at browsing through the songs. Boasts an excellent
camera and the menus are way faster to use than in my previous Nokia
6600. The only thing I can't agree with is the price of the phone,
I think it's a bit pricey in comparison to equivalent phones in
the market. Oh yes, and the screen is easily scratched, so use a

I had this phone for a couple of weeks before exchanging it for
a Sony W810i, The MP3 quality from the Nokia 3250 is quite poor
when campared to the Sony W810i, the camera isn't up to much either,
not the best built phone but not the worst, I guess this phone will
suit 12 - 16 year old kids who will be intreged by the swivel keypad
for months, like little monkey's

out to date maybe slightly big but the camera is good the sound
quality beats all sony ericsson walkman phones and i know.( had
them all ) the only down side small phone memory but supplied with
128 mb so that makes up for it and so far battery is holding strong
messed about with it on number of occasions in 1 full day and its
still full the twisty keypad is a mint design and works a treat
this phone defo is the best and the sound is truly amazing i thought
the w810i was good try this wicked well done nokia ..... get this

Typically another great phone from the boffins at Nokia, easy to
use with good features. I have had the phone for just 9 days and
the screen cracked whilst in my pocket, as someone mentioned in
a previous review, the main screen is too close to the top screen,
so beware!!!!, i have now been waiting 14 days on a new screen to
arrive at my local nokia repair centre as there is none available
and it is not being fixed under warranty, i guess a lot of people
will be handing their 3250's back to Nokia with knackered screens,
so Nokia, i expect you will lose a LOT of loyal customers over this.
However the phone itself is excellent.

Well, this phone has really exceeded all my expectations and then
some more. Gone is the sloth like operation of the old symbian phones
and in comes a much quicker system making navigation through all
the options - and there are loads - an absolute breeze. Sound quality
fantastic. Screen and camera are just brilliant and despite some
reports to the contrary I would not say that its a particularly
"heavy" phone. Couldn't believe I managed to get it on a sim free
basis for less than £250. An absolute bargain.

interfernce(Beleive me:-brought a magnetic pouch,but the fone automatically
switches on the camera, music player, unlocks automatically when i

it then its your own fault for buying it, there are thousands of
reviews that give you information from people who have bought the
phone so there is no excuse in buying it and moaning. Anyway, I
think the phone is great, wish it had a flash though. I also have
Sony Ericsson K750i as a spare, and they are both great phones.
The Nokia 6230 is the worst phone by far I think. Kept turning off
and the video was awful. Thats all haha! x

Just got my 3250 and think its great, had many different camera
phones in the past and this is good although could do with a flash.
Music player is good but better headphones could be supplied. no
adaptor enclosed with mine although i understand this is supplied
by some retailers. will just have to spend those few extra few pounds
to enjoy the good music. Radio would be better if the headphones
didnt have to be plugged in. Took a bit of setting up at first (internet
connection etc) but once done a thoroughly enjoyable phone.

This is an excellent music-phone. Unlike others it can recognize
the ID3-tags created by iTunes, which means it shows all available
information like Artist, Title, Genre, even the Composer of a song.
The only thing it doesn’t show is the Album-artwork, otherwise
you could call it a proper iTunes phone. Well done, Nokia, cause
not everone’s got a PC. The swivel works a treat, but you
don’t have to turn it to access the Music-Player, in fact
putting the music-player on one of the hot-keys is faster. Screen
is big and bright. Resolution of 176x208 pixels could be higher
(fonts are quite small) but I think that would effect battery-life
too much, which is about 3-4 days with good use. It’s solid
built, feels good to hold, a bit on the heavy side. Brilliant thing
is that you can stand the phone on any of the 4 sides, so turning
it upside-down you can listen to your tracks via loudspeaker. Only
gripe is that the supplied headphones are a joke, but you can use
your own, cause it’s got a 3.5mm plug. 2MP Camera is very
good even though flash is missing. It runs the latest version of
the Symbian OS, which means the interface is completely customizable
and you can add applications. Bluetooth is very fast on this phone,
as is the USB2.0 cable supplied. Not much to moan about really.
The dust-cover for the headset- and USB-plug is not attached to
the phone so can be lost very easily. Accessing the tiny micro-SD
memory card is very fiddly as Nokia positioned the slot in-between
the upper and the swivel part – you have to turn it 90 degrees
to access it. The joystick is a bit sturdy, but you just have to
apply more pressure. This phone comes highly recommended. It’s
a music-phone first of all, but it has got other tricks up its sleeve
to keep you interested.

Im sorry guys but these idiots rating this phone as only having
one star, and saying that nokia hasnt produced any excellent phones
are wrong! They are obviously quite invidious characters that sooo
worship the likes of sony ericsson and motorola! And come on...
their phones are mostly very similar! With the same boring old features
placed in a new casing. This phone stands out from your normal everyday
phone with its classy swivel MP3 and camera! And i must say the
pictures that come from this are glorious! When linked to your computer
they have depth and clarity! The sound is superb especially through
earphones! (but not throught the ones given with the phone) Its
layout, and highly sophisticated features makes this phone a must
have! Ignore the other pompous negative reviews!

responding to taylor... mate what good headphones? the phone doesn't
have a standard 3.5 mm jack so you have to use the bundled nokia
headphones? and they are nowhere near as good as an ipod with sennheisers.
other than that i would have to say that it look immensely cool
and the rotating function although a bit gimicky probably solves
the problem of the kepad. i write this as a sony ericsson owner
and although the SE walkman phones are probably better (being partly
sony and all) this phone is serious competition.

If you want a music phone this is not the best phone actually..i
have to admit that nokia will never be able to produce a phone that
have a good sound quality...even though it says that this is a music
phone..the sound quality from those sony ericsson walkman phone(W800i
and so on) can easily beat this phone sound quality..as for motorola
ROKR E2..the sound technology has far past the sound quality from
this phone..frankly speaking..this is a pathetic phone..there's
no way nokia can beat sony ericsson and motorola in inventing a
music phone..All those comments before(up) are all from the Nokia
loyal customer..so they never stop praise all new nokia phones even
though they knew the quality are average and sometimes below average...stop
it guys!!..be honest to yourself and try different variety of new
phones from other brand especially from sony ericsson and motorola..
i promise you won't be regretting it because you will realise how

This phone is absoloutly awful, it looks a normal size but is FAR
to big, they keys are to close to each other and they make a creaking
noise. The camera qulity is not up to scratch, my brothers W810i
is far better. As for sound quality its nothing sepcial either the
6280 is by far greater, allthough it is fairly loud. The twisting
bit at the bottom loses its fun after about an hour, and could barely
keep a baby amused. I'm getting rid of mine straight away and getting
a SE W810i instead a great phone. Unfortunatly Nokia seem to have
lost there way and in turn have lost themselves a customer!
