The Nokia 2610 is an entry-level phone without
a camera. It is intended for those who want a very easy-to-use phone
that has all the basic features of a phone and no more. It is definitely
a very smart-looking phone, that looks more expensive than it really
is. At just 18mm it's nice and slim, and weighs just 91g. The keypad
and 5-way navigation key are extremely easy to use.
Whilst there are no fun features such as a camera
or radio on the 2610, it has the basics, including an integrated
handsfree speaker, a voice recorder, and supports most types of
messaging. However, the big problem with the 2610 is the poor LCD
display. This is very hard to read when outdoors, even in low to
moderate sunlight, making the phone virtually unusable outside.
Nokia seem to have realised this and the 2610 uses larger than average
fonts, but outdoors it just isn't readable.
The Nokia 2310 is a better phone and
with the addition of an FM radio.
Features of the Nokia 2610 include:
Display: CSTN, 65,536 colours (96 x 68 pixels)
MP3 ringtones / 24-voice polyphonic ringtones
Integrated handsfree speaker
Voice recorder
Messaging: SMS, MMS, Nokia
Xpress audio messaging, email
Games: Coin Flipping
Personal organiser
Phonebook (300 entries)
Dual band
Size: 104 x 43 x 18 mm
Weight: 91g
Talktime: 3 hours
Battery standby: up to 300 hours

In order for a "basic phone" to score more than one star, in my
book, it needs to have "basic features." While I do not have a complete
list of what these features should be, I can list two features that
the Nokia 2610 does not have. All phones should have some method
of storing a pause in the dialing sequence. I should be able to
store a phone number in the following way: Number-pause-extension.
When I tell my phone to dial this number, it dials everything up
to the pause, and then waits for me to press a button before it
continues. This allows the phone at the other end to ring, and an
automated attendant (AA) to answer the phone and say "Please dial
your party's extension." Then, I press the button, and the phone
continues dialing. I consider this a basic feature for any phone
that stores numbers in a "phonebook." I cannot find a way to do
this with the 2610. There should be a way to get numbers into the
phone other than typing them in. I consider this another basic feature
for any phone with an interanal phonebook. Whether syncing to a
computerized organizer, or transferring the numbers from a previous
phone, there should be a way to "import" numbers to the 2610. I
understand that this is supposed to be an entry-level phone, and
that the CA-45 connector is for "authorized maintenence personnel
only," or whatever it says in the manual, but I have another phone
that can import/export its addresses/numbers as text messages. The
text message is sent in VCARD (a cellphone standard) format, so
the receiving phone can store the information in its phone book.
Sadly, the 2610 cannot recognize a VCARD text message, and there
is no way to save it as contact information. If someone from Nokia
is reading this, please note that these features could be added
through FIRMWARE changes. It does not take special hardware to pause
in the middle of dialing, or to make your text inbox recognize/store
contact information. Simply reprogram the existing phone hardware,
and it could do these things. It would cost very little to do this.
My review of this phone would gain a few stars with a simple firmware
upgrade. Rating:

This phone is horrible! I got it for free but had to commit to a
two-year contract with my provider -- what a mistake! 1. I can't
see anything on the screen unless I'm in a dark room. 2. It blacks
out (don't know the correct terminology for this, sorry) after about
two seconds (very annoying!). 3. The audio volume is weak and I
can't figure out if it can be turned up (I can't hear anyone on
the other end unless I'm in a quiet room, and forget hearing anyone
outside). 4. The ring volume is too low -- I have it on maximum
and still can't hear it unless it's right next to me. I'd rather
pay money and get something I can actually use! When my two-year
contract is up, I'm changing phones AND providers for giving me

I received regular comments from people on this phone. 'Is that
a new phone?' was the most common. Yes, it is a stylish phone and
it looks expensive. The main contributor to this is the fact that
the screen looks to be twice its actual size when it is not lit.
This gives it the appearance of some of the more recent 3G phones.
But the 'new phone' comment was prompted, more likely, by the fact
that this phone is much slower to show wear than others tend to.
This is its biggest plus in my book. Other pro points are awarded
for programmable short cuts and a comfortable-to-hold casing with
rubber trim. Gripes include a tendency for the phone to crash in
the middle of a phone call. This happened to me once or twice a
month. The keypad buttons are a little on the small side for me
(I have quite slim fingers for a man) and would better suit a smaller
hand. Nevertheless, mis-pressed keys were still fairly rare events.
In addition to the coin flip mentioned in other feature lists, I
also had an extremely addictive tetris-like game with really annoying
music. It also had a budget planner which would have been much more
useful if the phone had a method of synching with a computer. If
you have noticed me speaking in the past tense, then that is because
I drowned the phone in a swimming pool. I would easily have stuck
with it for another year. That would make a full two years of service.
This is an excellent phone for its category. It has good, if basic,
functions and is packed into quite a durable and very stylish shell. Rating:

Simple well constructed phone that looks more expensive than the
$87 I paid for it. Easy to use, though the menu is less easy to
navigate than my 6310. Don't expect miracles and you won't be disappointed.

Was given this phone and am surprised with the long standby time.
I tested it and was able to get around 2 weeks with about 15 mins
of calls per day. My criteria in a phone is long standby time and
loud and clear calls and this phone fits perfectly. If this is available
in a clamshell it would be the perfect phone for me. Rating:

Its a good starter. It has got a promising battery backup. It has
an OK display for a small mobile. Its additional feature is polyphonic-voice
ring tones. Good phone to start with. Rating:
