Nokia 2600
Review
Phone
rating:
Available
in the UK from September 2004, the Nokia 2600 is another "back
to basics" phone from Nokia: no camera, no radio, a basic colour
screen and, mercifully, a conventional keypad layout!
The
2600 is not rich in features, but is a nicely styled phone that
fits in your pocket and is easy to use. The integrated handsfree
speaker is a nice touch.
For
some resaon, Nokia have decided to incorporate a spreadsheet function
into the 2600. On a screen with just 128 x 128 pixels, this is an
interesting decision!
Features
of the Nokia 2600 include:
- 4,096-colour display, 128 x 128 pixels
- Built-in handsfree speaker
- Polyphonic ringtones (built-in; not downloadable)
- Composer for mono ringtones only
- Built-in games
- Changeable front and back Xpress-on™ covers
- Animated screensavers
- Spreadsheet
- Customizable converter
- Calculator
- Calendar with daily/weekly/monthly views
- Phonebook with storage for up to 200 entries
and up to 250 entries on the SIM card
- Vibration alert
- Weight: 95 g
- Size: 108 x 46 x 20 mm
- Dual-band operation
- Talktime: 3 hours
- Battery standby: 10 days

I bought this phone a while ago. I used it for a couple of days,
be warned of : 1. NO MMS 2. NO WAP OR GPRS 3. NO JAVA GAMES 4. NO
way of custumizing your mobile what so ever (NO PC CABLE) It is
basically a coloured version of the 3310. When i found that the
price difference between 3100 and 2600 was only $15. I immediatly
turned it back and got a 3100. 3100 has ALL of the above and even
an attachable camera. Not to mention it is even smaller. The best
things in this phone are: 1. Spreadsheet function 2. Very good ringtones
(Though you cant add any polyphonic tones, just monophonic tones)
3. Very reliable nokia

Although rigidly built and quite shock resistant, the bugs are sure
to irritate you. It tends to restart when typing messages too fast
or when continuously sending messages. Never make the mistake of
changing the dictionary to any language other than english coz if
you wish to type in Engligh later, the only option is to restore
factory settings first!!! Moreover, the screen just cannot resist
dust and keeps accummulating it underneath!!! Would be worthwile
to actually go for a 1100 instead.

Readers, BEWARE, this phone is a big dud. The only problem with
this phone is that there is only one button for options (called
menu). This means that functions that you take for granted in a
normal phone is not available - you cannot edit a number before
calling, you cannot save a dialled number from the list and so on.
This unfortunately is not highlighted by any website and as such
I am now planning to sell my 2600 for even a b/w model.

i think this phone is excellent because if you previously owned
a nokia and if it was anything up to a 3310 you know that this phone
does everything that a phone is supposed to do so there is no point
saying that this phone is rubbish because it doesnt have a built
in chees grater or an attachable trailer, the real functions of
a mobile phone is to be able to make calls on the move , "Mobile
Phone!" not "Mobile-cheesegrater-camera-chainsaw-texting machine"
because if you fill a phone with features it will only crash when
you try to use it as an actual phone so if tomorrow your phone brakes
and you dont want to spend too much on a new one and are only going
to use it a a basic then this is the phone for you , it looks incredibly
nice it fits in litterally any pockes you may have and ahs that
crome finishing that makes it stand out, but if you want a built
in toilet then you probably have to go with an NEC.

I'm impressed with the appearence and cost. Its really stylish when
compared with others in its class. grey and black color combination
is nice. Keypad is outstanding, thanks to nokia designers for this
wonderful design. But I stunned when I heard that there is no downloads!!!!!
to this cell. It is the responsibility of Nokia that they should
add some nice ringtones to it to overcome this problem, but they
really failed in that. Available ringtones are boring and irritating.
Anyway it is a nice cell in town.

There seems to be an awful lot of people out there criticising this
phone for lack of features. If you are dumb enough to buy something
before finding out what it can do, then you're an idiot! Back to
the phone, I'm delighted with it. Its small, lightweight, cheap,
and does what is says 'on the tin'. The ringtone and message volumes
can be set to loud, and I mean ear pearcingly loud - particularly
the msg notification, which is great if you are in a noisy bar or
the phone is buried in a deep jacket pocket.

People who complain about it's lack of features are stupid and irritating.
That's what you research a fone for. A fone that doesn't have the
features you want is not a bad fone, but merely not the fone you
should have chosen. For what it's intended - a simple, back to basics

i think they should make an affordable "teenage" targeted fone with
all the features - coz with all the pre-paid fones in Aus. they
aren't the whole package. I think this is a good fone for the people
who want to get back to basics with a good old fone. The keys are

There's no way to get data in or out! No way to back up your phone
book. No cables, no iR, no Bluetooth support. It doesnt even have
MMS (whats the use of having it coloured when you cant even have
pictures in it??) No downloading of tones. Its just a 'phone' and
that's the problem with it, especially in this era -even my grandparents
would hate it! The only pluses for it is that its colored and looks
elegant -that's just it. If I'd want a "phone", I'd rather get a
second hand Nokia 6510 which is not coloured, but has infra red
for transferring data and has an FM radio (comes with headset too
which is more logical than 2600's loud mouth speaker phone)

FIRST OFF, it's not a feature-rich, versatile phone. Buy an N-GAGE
or a 3220 instead. PROS: compact size; ease of use (as we've come
to expect from Nokia); pleasant ringtones and themes. CONS: moderate
to poor sound quality, especially voice calls; slow access to SMS
and other data (FFS, it was slower than my dear departed 3330!).
AND NO, you can't put ANYTHING on it except for MONO ringtones,
despite it's polyphonic ringtone capacity. And the games are rubbish.
It's a basic phone, perfect for those who only use mobiles for voice
calls and text messages. (As for me, I now own a 3220 - better for

This phone looked good in the shop when i went to buy it, i had
the choice of this one and a Nokia 3120, i chose the 2600- BIG MISTAKE!!!
First i was disappointed with the dull colours and lack of GPRS/WAP
there was no MMS and the polyphonic ringtones were **** I personally
should of got the 3120 but i am happy now with my 7610.

Great phone! Nothing special but great at the same time! Only thing
that`s missing is GPRS... Small, light, with one of the best graphics
in it by default seen on Nokia phones. I recomend it - Price/quality
5, Features 4, Dessign 4, Speed - 4!

I don't really like this phone as it doesnt support blue tooth nor
infra red. Im unable to download polyphonic ringtones, wallpapers
and photos without GPRS. No MMS support. Even 3100 is better...The
only good thing is that the sound sounds something like 3D stereo,
very nice speaker they have.

I just bought my Nokia 2600 a few days ago and I gurantee you if
you just like have a phone than 2600 is just 4 you. no kind of child
play's radio or camera. it's design is stylish also it's very easy
to write a sms with it's comfortable buttons. my last word is "go
and get a 2600 if u want to have a phone rather a toy."
