Nokia 2300 Review

Phone rating:

The Nokia 2300 is a very basic phone. The display is black and white with very low resolution, and there are few features. A radio is included, but it is mono only. One of the biggest problems with the 2300 is the weird keypad design that uses joined-up and overlapping keys. Not easy to use, not very reliable, and not recommended!

Features of the Nokia 2300 include:

  • Black & white display (96 x 65 pixels)
  • Mono FM radio (built into headset)
  • Polyphonic ringtones
  • Ringtone composer (mono ringtones only)
  • Internal handsfree speaker
  • Navi™ key with 4-way scroll for easy messaging and gaming
  • Changeable covers
  • 3 games: Snake II, Space Impact+ and Opposite
  • Picture messaging
  • Save up to 50 text messages
  • Personal organiser functions
  • Animated screensavers
  • Vibration alert
  • Dual band (EGSM 900/GSM 1800)
  • Size: 107 x 46 x 21 mm
  • Weight: 92g
  • Talktime: 2 - 4.5 hours
  • Battery standby: 100 - 400 hours

i have bought this nokia 2300 for about 2 months before and yet i have faced no any problem to be highlighted instead of key punching. some times its key no. 7 creates problem but its good feature is its radio. however nokia is a good company but i do not like its one feature i.e. when you start your mobile "time and date" is required to be adjusted every time (i am using nokia 1st time) but in other cells this is not required. nokia should think about that.

The keypad design is absolutely horrible! I like having the "auto keypad lock" feature switched on in my mobile phones. To unlock the keypad in Nokia 2300 I have to press the "*" key. Sounds like an easy task? No way. The keypad on this piece is so numb I have no idea where to press it in order to unlock the damn thing. Very frustrating. Thought I'd get a basic simple-to-use phone, but this one is just simple.

After seeing and trying out Nokia's 2300 model, I decided it was about time I changed my robust but aged 5 years old 3210. It's a fine, basic, easy to use telephone, but only after a month's use I had to take it back. The reasons follow: 1. After 4 circles of fully emptying and recharging the battery, I connected the phone (battery mark 2/7, after all it'sa lithium battery) with its charger and left it open, overnight. It didn't charge! 2. It switches off on its own. 3. When receiving calls, I can talk only for 1-2 SECONDS. I can't hear anything and they can't hear me. It doesn't work the other way around though. I hope that this is just an exception...

I just gave it back again, they have re-sent it back to Nokia, and I have said that I do not want this model again...the Nokia customer service is terrible!!

Hi everyone, first of all i will point out the bad things about the NOKIA 2300. It has a delay with the ringtones, and if you play them and then select a new one, it will make weird noises, and then fix itself up, it has no picture editor, or good games, which was disappointing, but hey who really cares. The good things is that it was cheap, came with a good QUIKSILVER phone cover, has a white screen, small, light and trendy, its a good phone overall, and i recomend the younger generation buy it.

My son bought the Nokia 2300 on 23 Nov 2004 with his first salary - and he had insisted on getting a Nokia as he thought that he was buying quality! Well were we in for a nasty surprise! 3 weeks later he switched the phone on and only got a BLANK SCREEN and could NOT SWITCH OFF the phone and had to take the battery out to switch off! The phone was returned to ExactMobile (representative for Nokia in South Africa - but RF Group is holding company). Anyway needless to say they had the phone for 11 days and the phone was returned (supposedly after a firmware upgrade) and we then had another PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY where the phone settings could not be personalized etc. The phone again had to be returned to Nokia and I insisted that I wanted another phone, as obviously this phone was faulty. We got the phone back a few days later and the phone again only worked for about 2 weeks before A BLANK SCREEN AGAIN! They agreed to replace the phone - but only for us to be phoned a few d ays later saying that we had supposedly DROPPED THE PHONE as the board was bent! Needless to say we were furious as the phone certainly had not been dropped or done anything else to it that would have made the warranty void and we insisted that we wanted another phone. They said that they would not replace the phone. It's nearly a month now and they still have the phone, and are still refusing to replace the phone. THE SERVICE FROM NOKIA IS DISTGUSTING and I will never purchase another NOKIA phone ever again and suggest that you certainly do not buy this phone as obviously it is a faulty batch and of inferior quality!!

My husband purchased a Nokia 2300 cell phone for my son birthday - on the 4/7/2004. 2 months later the LCD screen went blank - the phone was sent in to Autopage cellular at the Pavillion where it was purchased. My husband requested a new phone but according to the salesperson, this phone had to be repaired - as this is the standard procedure - he could not get a new phone! Now another two months from the previous repair we had the same problem in addition to this it says invalid sim as well. I have once again handed in the phone for repairs on the 20/11/04 to be fixed. I phoned today to follow up 26/11/04 and was promised a new phone shortly - I have requested another phone as I believe the Nokia 2300 has a major fault! I have spoken to a friend yesterday and he also has a problem with the Nokia 2300 - how many other people have a problem with this!! I would like another phone from Nokia as this is unacceptable - I DON'T WANT THIS PROBLEM AGAIN IN 2 MONTHS or to have additional cost WHEN THE WARRANTY WEARS OUT - I recall the NO REFUNDS ON HANDSET STATEMENT but surely in this case where it seems to be the manufactures problem - I am entitled to my money back for my sons birthday present or a new phone of his choice!!!!

The phone is good, in general. However, I am very disappointed with the keypad. Its difficult to use. You have to press a key very pointedly, since the design is a peculiar one in which two keys each are joined to one another in a 'stylish' manner. All that pressing makes my fingers caput, esp. when I am on SMS chat. Am gonna change my phone

I have used the Nokia 2300 for over 2 weeks now and I didn't get any problems or face any bugs from it. It handles well and is trouble free, so far. I like the feature of the right key programming, where a shortcut can be assigned to a menu function such as changing a profile, etc. This is a neat function and I use it to switch b/w profiles instantenously. This phone would be better if it had any connectivity option such as infra or bluetooth, which it doesn't.

it is a good phone although i had problems with the software on the second day that i'm using it,it hangs then just vanished.i had the software reloaded and it cost me much money just for that because the warranty only covers use in saudi arabia where it was bought.i hope it won't happen again because it will be a waste of so much money...

Features and output are fair but with a number of manufacturing problem. significant is software problem. A lot of people complained about the vanishing of software just within 2weeks of its purchase. Mobile phone is excellent to use but within warranty period.you should gift it to your younger brother after the expiry of warranty.

Mine has a stupid bug. The function "mute" during a call doesn't have any affect. I wonder if i'm the only one with this problem... I can't seem to find anything about this problem on the internet. I like the loudspeaker and the radio, but it's stupid that the radio can only be used while connecting the phone to the headset (it needs an antenna).
