NEC e313 Review
Phone rating:
Review:
August 2004.
The
NEC e313 is available on the 3 network very cheaply and has become
one of 3's most popular phones. It's a good value 3G phone that
supports video calling, video messaging and all the other features
available on the 3 network.
Other
good features of the phone are the exceptionally large colour screen,
polyphonic ringtones, voice recorder and MP3 player.
Although
marketed as a budget phone, it has a lot of features that you might
not expect, such as an expansion slot for additional memory, and
even the internal memory is generous at 19 Mbytes. The finish of
the phone is nice (better than in our photo here!), and as 3G phones
go, this one is slim and relatively lightweight, although at 126g
it's heavier than nearly all 2G phones. Overall it's good phone
for those wanting to try out what 3G has to offer.
Users
in the UK may not be very familiar with NEC as a mobile phone manufacturer,
but overseas NEC has years of experience in this arena, especially
as a manufacturer of the hi-tech i-mode phones in Japan.
The
main issue with this phone, as with all 3G phones is the battery
life - expect to charge the phone every couple of days, or daily
if you make much use of the video calling feature.
Features
of the NEC e313 include:
- Supports all 3's video mobile services: video
calling, video messaging & download video clips
- Rotating video camera for video calling, recording
short videos and taking photos (VGA resolution - 640 x 480 pixels,
digital zoom)
- Display: 65,536 colours, 220 x 176 pixels
- MP3 player
- Voice recorder / Call memo to record conversations
- Multimedia messaging (send photos, videos and
text)
- Predictive (T9) text input
- e-mail
- 40-voice polyphonic ringtones
- Java games
- Synchronisation of data with a PC
- Phonebook (500 entries)
- Organiser features: Calculator, Currency Converter,
Scheduler, Notepad, To Do List, Clock, Alarm
- WAP, GPRS class 8
- Connectivity: USB
- Fast 3G data transmission: 384 kbps download
/ 64 kbps upload
- Internal memory: 19 Mbytes
- Optional memory card up to 128 Mbytes (Sony
MemoryStick Duo)
- Size: 147 x 64 x 21 mm
- Weight: 126g
- Talktime: 2 hours
- Battery standby: 3.5 days

I dont know what you people are whining about, for £45 you gettin credit,
an mp3 player, video phone etc. i mean what more do you want? the one
thing this phone doesnt have is a radio and thats it. And whats all
this about it buringing up and short battery life and switching itself
off? mine dont do that. Yeah it warms up when im on a long call but
all fones do that. my fones only ever switched itswelf off once when
i was messing with it and my battery lasts ages. The more I charge it
the longer it lasts. Also i have downloaded full length music videos
on it for just £1.50 each. i only know one other person whose fone can
do that and its like a £500 phone. i dont think you can set you own
voice recordings as your ringtunes but you can download mp3 from wap
and if u have the data cable from ur pc and these can be used as ringtunes, this
fone is excellent and im well surprised three are letting them go for
£45 each. And as for you people who whine about the three ne twork dont
forget they have only been around like a year and a half and their pay
as u go service just a few months. All networks at one time had validatity
times for credit. They've just changed their £15 voucher too so thats
awesome. I put on £25 a month and choose the 500 mins and then if i
need credit i just buy £5 add everything vouchers so basically you can
top up £5 at a time. What more could you ask for?

yet another review.... i think this fone really is great, and that the
review below about face burning is a load of poo. and also, anyone who
says the phone's battery doesn't last long or says the fone is rubbish,
are the people who keep playing with it and dont know how to work it.
Also, the people who say it's rubbish for under £50, are the people
who need to shut up and face facts, yes there are better phones but
if you dont like the price, DONT BUY THE THING!! If you want to go and
spend £150+ on a nokia with much less features and an expensive name,
fine... :) Rant over... :)

e.t.c and i couldnt afford it because i dont get a lot of money and
i have go a kid on the way , so when this phone came out for 45 bob

bargain for its price.dont listen to any of the other reviews.

Well, I'm not sure what most of you are moaning about but feel free
to go out and spend the best part of £200 on a Nokia with virtually
no features if that makes you feel better but personally I think this
is the best £40 (inc £15 credit) I've ever spent. I initially wasn't
too fussed about the features as I have an iPod for my music and a PDA
for video, contacts etc but after this past week I have found myself
using only the e313. Far more features that I ever expected. I myself
had a bit of a moan about the whole 30 day validity scheme 3 have put
in place but when you think about it, its about the same as a contract
phone but without the 12-18 months of having your balls trapped in a
vice by any one of the other service providers! Generally, I agree with
the whole "you get what you pay for..." sketch but this time I'm inclined
to disagree. The e313 is a brilliant little phone with all the same
features as the £450 Nokia Communicator (minus the widescreen and qwerty
keypad). For the money I can't see how it could be improved at all.
Thank you for reading this mini tome, I'm now off to post my cv to 3's
advertising department!!

and cant even set it as a tone. e-mail is good though, i can get all
my tones off the web then e-mail them to my phone. i now have about
50 tones and wallpapers for free. the camera quality is good and it
has a good memory capacity at 20mb. network isn't that good though,

The only reason the phone doesn't get 5 stars is down to the battery
life. It lasts me about a day, although it does come with an extra battery.
A lot of people are saying its a terrible phone but for £45 its a real
bargin. The network 3, is probably one of the biggest cons I've seen.
They give NEC a bad name. They say that there calls are 5p per minute
but when you top up your automatically given a number of call minutes
anyway, which goes to show that the 5p per minute thing is a load of
bull s**t. If you want this phone (which is very good) you have to be
prepared to spend a lot of money using the network. Great phone, s**tty
network.

I might finally have a phone that I could trust.... oh how I was wrong.
Within 6 DAYS!!!! it refused to recognise that there was a SIM card
in, and when it did turn on it refused to make ANY CALLS. Being my third
NEC I think its quite obvious that they just cant build phones at all.
Every NEC model feels flimsy, battery life is very poor. I have used
the e606, e808 before this and couldnt believe that 3 said it would
be 15 working days to get a replacement phone to me. I am quitting my
contract and have a proper phone on orange. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I have had this phone for just over a week and I think it is a pretty
good phone. I dont really understand why people are moaning about the
30 day credit validity period. I actually asked in the shop I bought
the phone from before I bought it, if people dont do this that is their
problem. Its not like 3 dont advertise the fact is it??!! Anyway, I
get a couple of days life from the battery, and I use the phone a lot,
so thats not too bad. I mostly bought the phone for the camera function
and its much better graphics than the old sony ericsson phone I had.
I live in a notoriously bad signal area and have full coverage with
3, so no problems there either. Its got pretty loud ringtones, and that
little dancing man is worth the money on its own!! I think the phone
is cheap and worth the money you pay for it. I wouldnt pay a fortune
for the phone but I didnt, I paid £30 and that to me is value for money.
Yoiu get what you pay for in this world!! Overall a good phone, nice
functions and cheap to call other networks. 5p a minute, cheaper than
all the other networks, but I wouldnt waste the money on texts. If you
use your phone a lot to call people on other networks quite a lot, like
I do, then the phone is worth the money.

I purchased this phone from the link after reading the reviews here,
yes its a bit big but its lightweight a nice phone to me at a nice price.
I brought this phone mainly for mp3 and movie playback. If u buy a 256mb
memory stick duo you can download all your music or compress your movie
files into the gp format, plus you will also need a data cable and flash
reader as well as the software. The video camera again excellent, the
photos excellent, but it does seem to chew up a lot of battery power.
It does let off a high pitched tone now and again and im told it is
switching between gsm and 3 networks i really need to read the manual
to get a grip on this phone. Otherwise for 30 quid im more than happy.

the screen is amazin, the cameras great an i love the media player on

I tried ringing up 3 and all they said was how to put the USB lead into

life is absolutley pants. No WAP only 3's crappy network. Only £1.50

are £2 unless you buy add ons not really much good. Topping up is a
bit of a problem as well if you live in a small village or town as half
of the shops that 3 say you can top up with haven't even heard of the

hardly speak English, I lost count of the ammount of times I had to
get them to repeat what they said. So unless you speak Indian I wouldn't
bother phoning them. Overall not really very good, only use mine for
work as the coverage where I live ain't that good unless I hang out
of the bathroom window. Don't bother trying to use outside on a sunny

This is probably the worst purchase I have ever made!!!!!! The aftercare
service is horrendous, you cannot connect to your PC (the reason I bought
the phone in the first place!!!) without buying a disc (for £14.99)
that NO-ONE at NEC can tell you the retailer of!!!! NEC repeatedly tell
you what you need but DO NOT (and I went through 4 separate people to
find this out) know who stocks it, how much it costs, how to get it
or where to get it. When I expressed my distaste, I was told that the
Software disc I needed to operate my 313 phone had nothing to do with
NEC!!!!!! But (read this paragraph again in a continuous loop and you'll
get some idea of what I went through on the phone with them.) The retail
outlet have no discs and weren't willing to try and locate one until
I threatened to return the phone (citing Consensus ad Idem or failure
to disclose all material facts pertaining to a contract) at which point
they gave me a NEC 616 cd - which didn't work!!!! I got the ever welcome
customer service call a month after buying it and with the option of
having my comments passed on - still haven't had a word back, despite
being told I would be contacted........ I gave up at that point. They
are horrendous and you would be very foolish to purchase this phone
unless you wanted an additional remote control for your telly.

mere 10 seconds, and then '3' steal your credit but I am quite pleased
with the phone, especially as it was only £45.00. I suppose you couldn't
expect a great amount out of it. I am also very angry about the 'WAP

which are quite frankly terrible. I am also a bit miffed about the USB

from that, the quality is great, the sound is superb and the look is

I reach for, there is so much you can do with it, fantastic camera function,
fun video for messing about with and MP3 player with not bad sound to
mention but a few. The Threepay network doesn't deserve the rotten comments
I have heard okay there are problems connecting to the topup line and
the three services but all in all I don't get much better service with
the Vodafone Live service. It is quite a big mobile in length but it
weighs next to nothing and for the fun it gives is definately worth

Doesnt really deserve 1 star, but no 0 star option. Where do i start?
Its totally locked to the Three network, which is unreliable, low coverage,
poor quality etc. This WAP/GPRS phone does NOT let you surf the internet,
you can ONLY visit three's own sites, nowhere else (so google is out
of the question) This JAVA phone does not let you download your own
java applets or non 3 applets, you can only install what you purchase
from 3....... This phone has a low battery life, used both supplied
batteries on the first day! Nice display indoors, TOTALLY unusable outdoors,
cant see a thing on it when outside. 19mb of memory, BUT limited to
100 pictures? weird... Cant play sound files over 20k in size - mad.....
Keeps crashing / resetting / dying for no reason at random times. Any
credit not used in 30 days goes straight into the Three Networks greedy
money grabbing thieving hands. A total con, and I am disgusted a company
can rip people of like this, its completely misleading / false advertising.

NEC e313 3G Video Phone. First impressions, this phone is light ! and
compared to my old Nokia 6110e, its only one centimeter longer, that
is due to the camera part. The display is fantastic, very bright with
vibrant colours :) The cameras photo quality is best I have ever seen,
better than the Trio 600! As is the video quality, truly outstanding!
Ringtunes are loud enough and the vibrate is certainly strong enough
to get your attention. To navigate around the handset took me a full
day to get uses to it properley, it can be quite difficult to begin
with, but you soon pick it up :) Battery life if GOOD ! And people who
say it isnt are people who are playing with the phone too much ;) At
the moment I am sending and receiving free emails (weird) My ex bought
a Samsung black slam shell camera phone for £250, this is ten times
better ! Oh and you must try the video calling, its very cool feature
:) I bought my phone from Argos for £45 and it came with £15 of free
talktime (100 mins). All in all, a awesome phone, and I cant stop laughin
at how cheap it is, I would have paid over £200 for this easy,.. NEC,

The phone itself is pretty damn good. Quite easy to use and if you can't
pick it up in less than an hour there is something wong with you. Memory
stick for mp3 player no hardship, my old mp3 player was about this size
so it saves me carrying two bulky objects round (phone and mp3 player).
However if you like to play games it is a bit of a farce as it comes
with no game and 3 seems to use an intranet instead of a proper wap
or gprs.So when you want to play a game it costs every time. If you
do want to play games for free then you are in for a hard long haul
of setting up web sapce and putting your games on it then using your
phone and trying hopefully to navigate your way to that page without
any errors. The phone itself is very good it's large size is outweighted
by it's functionality. 3 as a network though are poop they are rude
don't listen to what the customer has to say and are genrally vey unhelpful.
The 3 website is worse nothing of use or value the shop is a joke. Howe
ver should you want a data cable and the driver disc then i can fully
recommend Kondor they are very helpful and offer good advice. 3 seems
to be a company in its infancy and unless like the phones evlove into
the next generation they well fold quickly. To sumarise the phone great

This phone is wonderful it has changed my life! It took me a few hour
to totally comprehend all the functions. I can say I have fallen in
love with my phone, I have had smaller phones in the past but the one
thing i thought would be a flaw isn't at all if anything its easier
to keep track off. I got this phone cheaply through woolworths so wasn't
expecting much but was pleasantly surpriSed. THIS PHONE IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
