This
is a good phone for the money. It's one of the first phones that
features i-mode -
a new standard that makes it easy to access the web and use e-mail
from a mobile phone. In addition to the i-mode capability, you get
a lot of features for your money: a high quality internal display
(although the outer display isn't the best and is hard to read in
bright light), an excellent 1.3 megapixel camera plus a video camera,
an MP3 player (not the best but good for the money) and a good-looking
compact design.
The
MP3 player is a welcome bonus, but don't expect it to replace your
iPod. With only 25 Mbytes of user memory, you can't store many music
tracks. It's a shame too that you can't use MP3 tracks as ringtones
- an obvious design error by NEC - but you can use video ringtones
instead (take a video of your friend and use that as the ringtone
when they call you). The phone also features 12-colour LED lights
that flash when you have an incoming call.
The
phone comes with Bluetooth, however this is restricted to use with
Bluetooth headsets only. It cannot be used to transfer files. Instead
there is a USB and infrared port that can be used to transfer data
between phones or from phone to PC.
In
summary, this is a good phone that represents excellent value for
money. It offers plenty of features, although there are limits to
what it can do. If you don't require Bluetooth for file transfer,
if you don't want MP3 ringtones, and if you're willing to work with
a slightly tricky menu, then the NEC 411i is a nice looking compact
phone with plenty of gadgets and the added benefit of i-mode.
Features
of the NEC 411i include:
1.3 megapixel camera with flash and 5x digital
zoom
Video camera with nightlight
Display: TFT, 65,536 colours, 176 x 220 pixels
External display: STN, 4096 colours, 128 x 128
pixels
MP3 player
64-voice polyphonic ringtones with 12-colour
LED lights
Video phonebook - see a video of your friend
when they are calling
Connectivity: Bluetooth, IrDa, USB
Memory: 25 Mbytes
i-mode, GPRS Class 10
Triband
Size: 93 x 46 x 24 mm
Weight: 95g
Talktime: 200 minutes
Battery standby: 200 hours

its a good phone however, it has 2 major problems 1 - it does'nt
have internal speaker so there is no way to use the phone far from
you exept when you use a head set 2 - the key pad is very hard to
use and after a very short time it is become useless. if you can
change the key pad to a better one, do that. Rating:

I admit that it's certainly a nice phone to use, with quite good
megapixels. The reason why it can contain so many photos is partly
because the photo size taken by this phone is only a few KBs, as
in seriously, you can count with your fingers. However, when you
want to transfer in recordings/songs with a large file, you may
face some problem as it doesn't allow. Well, this phone is not very
lasting either. I only used it for less than 1 year, and the keypad
is spoilt. Transferring of files to PC is still quite MAJOR problem
to a lot of my friends, including myself, who use NEC 411i. These
are only the few problems that I face. I would really discourage
any consumers from getting this phone, and I personally will encourage
NEC to fix these problems, and come up with better phones. Rating:

Jamey, Don't blame the girl at Argos! If you wanted advice on a
phone you should have gone to a phone shop, not a catalogue store.
My advice to everyone who complains about a lack of memory on a
phone - read about it first (either online or in the store) before
you buy. Then you'll know if it has the memory you need. Admittedly,
quality of pictures etc aren't possible to judge this way, but a
little bit of research goes a long way! In this day and age, no-one
should ever complain a phone doesn't have the features they need/want.
All the info is available. Rating:

This is a good phone for the amount of money it cost, with a good
camera and video it is fairly good, but the lack of memorysitting
at 25 MBytes it only allows a maximum of 5 or 6 tracks on the mp3
player which is not very good, and they anot be used as ringtones,
the internet capabilities are excellent and i find them very useful
for when i am on a trip and need to check my mail, the bluetooth
is completely rubbish as i could really do with it being able to
transfer phone to phone so i can recieve important shared documents,
overall this is a good phone but i think the designers could have
done a little better with the features and memory sizes, maybe if
it had the capability to hold a memory card it would be better Rating:

i hate to spoil the party but as with most things if it looks too
good to be true it probably is. it may well have a megapixel camera
an stuff like that but at £30 you are gonna have to make some sacrifices.
the first sacrifice is that the bluetooth can't do phone to phone,
so that feature is less useful. secondly you are gonna sacrifice
build quality. i mean NEC arn't renound for making good phones.
the keys are tacky and the i-mode is a subscription based program

Very disappointing! Many features at a reasonable price maybe, but.....
The sound quality is poor-during a conversation, the voice is often
tinny and breaks up, rather like a poor radio reception (even in
areas of strong signal). The display is terrible, virtually invisible
even in normal daylight- the camera is therefore virtually impossible
to use in anything but near darkness. The menu's can be cumbersome,
and the instruction manual can be at best, vague, at worst, useless.
The i-mode appears good, but all you do is end up in dead-ends unless
you enroll with subscriptions.(Thanks, o2) NEC I think make computers-
maybe they should stick to this and leave mobiles to Nokia etc.
They don't even do any accessories such as a case to carry or protect
it. Pay a bit more and go for Nokia....Motorola....Samsung.... Rating:

I have had this phone since late December. I can safely say that
it is a reliable phone and has done the trick. Though one cannot
use the MP3 tracks for ring tones, I found this most frustrating.
The actual design of the phone is actually rather naff, it failed
to impress me. The keys have a tendency of refusing to work, sometimes
one must press the keys multiple times to get a response. Generally
it is quite a boring phone, and the i-mode is a little over-rated,
(though you can download a few decent pics... at a pretty harsh
cost though, £3.00 for 3 pics! Outrageous!) Rating:

you cant transfer files from the phone to other phones and another
reason because of the lack of memory.I wouldn't recommend buying

For the money this phone costs, I think this phone is great value
for money. You will be pressed to find a phone around this value
that offers the same features. If you want a phone that does everything,
then this isn't the phone for you and you should look at spending
more money. Otherwise, this does a great job. It is an alright looking
phone which is not overly bulky. Colour sceen on the inside is very
good. Alot of people have complained about the bluetooth, and it
is a bit misleading, but its great with a headset and provides infa-red
for file transfer if you want to. A cable to link to the computer
is provided so you can upload your mp3's. The sound quality is not
the best but its not terrible either. Unfortunately the mp3's can't
be used as ringtones which is a bit of a shame. The menus look a
bit cheap and basic but they are easy to navigate. The build quality
of the phone is good aswell and has never played up for me. Overall,
a phone which is value for money and that does its job to a good
standard. Rating:
