The
Motorola V600 is a well-specified phone with an integrated digital
camera, video playback (but not video recording), MP3 ringtones
and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Quad band lets you roam
globally.
The
V600 is an attractively-styled clamshell phone with a smart chrome
finish. The quality of the display is excellent and the camera performs
well (for a phone!). The phone is larger than most clamshells, but
then again it is a high-spec phone with lots of features packed
in. Overall a nice looking and functional phone, aimed firmly at
the more expensive end of the market.
What
lets the V600 down badly is the reliability problems reported by
users. We cannot recommend this phone, and instead would recommend
the new Motorola V620.
Features
of the Motorola V600 include:
Integrated Digital Camera
Video Clip playback with sound
Internal display: 65,000 Colour TFT (176 x 220
pixels)
User-customisable Softkey Functions, Main Menu
and Shortcuts

I've had this for a few months, and it's generally a good phone
with a few niggles. On the plus side, it's easy to use for basic
tasks; the keys and directional pad work well for dialing and games;
the WAP browser's fine; the screen's good; the ring's loud; it's
nice looking and quite small. On the minus, I've had problems getting
bluetooth to work with my PC (though that may be a fault on the
PC side); sometimes you have to press a few too many buttons to
do simple things; the less-used menu options tend to be hidden away;
the lack of T9 predictive text is annoying; the camera is average;
the reception and call quality aren't as good as some phones; and
I've never used the video playback. Overall, good in some areas,
average in others, but not really bad in anything. Rating:

have my old nokia 3200. it always freezes for long periods of time,
it rings even when no ones calling and i have to take out the battery
to make it stop, the 9 button has moments where it doesnt work,
it restarts itself- often in the middle of important phone calls,
the outside is fully scratched and there is a crack in the black
plastic, it has a yellow dot on the screen which wont go away. im

For a phone that was the top of the range the camera is dire. Despite
the choice of settings the camera takes photos as it sees fit, usually
less than 40kb, hence poor pictures. It takes at least 5 to 6 key
presses to access functions I should be able to access in 2. On
one very embarrasing occasion the phone rang loudly in a shopping
centre, I tried to answer the phone but it wouldnt stop ringing,
I tried to turn it off but it wouldnt have that !! In the end I
had to remove the battery !!!!. Poor call quality, profile changing

Hi. I have had the phone since last April. I have had a number of
problems with the phone, as those described by others. When switched
off the backlight on the front screen stays on, the pixels on the
front screen become scrambled and distort the time display. I also
had a problem when the phone would not switch off! I was told by
the O2 shop where I bought it that I had to use the Master Reset
button, which I don't ercall seeing in the manual. This also ended
up losing all my settings. And will somebody tell me how to set
up for voice dialling???!! There appears to be nothing in the manual
for this at all. The Blue Tooth unit I have is okay, but still don't
really understand how it works (though I can answer calls with it).
Again the manual for this was rubbish. It's all in all a very flashy
phone, but too complicated for my liking. Think I will go back to
a Nokia next time my contract expires in April. If anyone can help
with the voice dialling please let me know by leaving me a message

I have had this phone for a while and its resonably ok, It feels
durable and sturdy and although ive had problems with the phone
powering itself off or diverting calls on the odd occasion this
isnt too bad. One thing i would say is this is definetly a phone
for right handed people, im a lefty and the position of the buttons
is pretty horrible, left OR right handed the buttons are too flat
and lead to people with chubby fingers making mistakes, when you
close the flap shut it gradually leads to annoying little scuff
marks on the screen from the buttons. The wap is horribly underdeveloped
(like the phonebook), no bookmark function, only a store page function,
where you have to leave the wap to go back and open it, or a web
shortcuts page which is not well explained and doesnt seem to appear
in the manual very much. i dropped mine and the silver bit of plastic
on the face cracked, its difficult to replace and u have to replace
the full front plasctic screen , this cheapo- easily breakable bit
could eaisily have been part of the removable fascia, saving me
a lot of trouble, Overall, being heavy and metal doesnt make u a
good phone, pretty poor camera, no video, sh!t phone book, get a

I have had the Motorola V600 for one month now. I have had to send
it back because it has developed a fault -the backlight on the lid
only turns itself on when the phone is switched off (this happens
randomly), and freezes the phone ! I have to remove the battery
and re-insert it to re-set the phone ! Apart from this problem,
the phone in general is OK. One annoying thing though -the switch
controlling the ring style is on the outside and sometimes tends
to get knocked accidently, changing the ring style without my knowledge
! Another thing which my previous mobile phone (Nokia) had which
this one hasn't got is the ability to change the start day of the
week in the calendar. I personally find this very useful as my working
week starts on a Sunday (I work shifts). I tend to agree with the
other reviewers who say that the quality control and field testing
of this phone (and perhaps other Motorola phone models) would appear
to be rather poor. Rating:

to fix that. Then one day the phone gave it up and died, great.
Got a replacement from the network (Orange) but that broke within
2 hours! They got me to reboot the software over the phone and that
fix lasted less than 10 minutes. The menu system is harder to learn
than my previous Nokia's and samsung's and it seems that in the
initial set up, you get the camera if you press most keys, I dont
know about you but I text alot more that I photograph! Ringtones
are awful, you will be buying a new ringtone within the first day.

I have had the V600 for 6 months now along with the Jabra 250 bluetooth
headset. The best investment I have made in a cell phone yet. Also
purchased the cable and software that allows me to share the info
on my laptop. This is especially nice when adding contacts, free
or customized ringtones, saving pictures, etc. It can all be done
by simple drag and drop. I have had none of the problems that others
have mentioned in their reviews. I am with Cingular and other than
a very poor signal at my home the service has been very good. The
only improvements I would recommend would be better placement/design
of the external buttons used to adjust ringing and voice dialing.
These are to easy to accidentally activate. Also would like to see
a slight modification to the edge of the cover to make it a little
easier to open "one handed". Occasionaly when I recieve a call and
attempt to flip the phone open with one hand it partially opens
and then closes. This of course disconnects the call and I have
to call the person back. One more reason to use the wireless headset
and never have to open the phone to answer. If you are buying a
phone for the camera you need to rethink that idea. The camera function
on 95% percent of all cell phones is a novelty item. Don't expect
anything but a cute picture that you can send to a friend. As a
Safety/Operations manager, I use it at work to document situations
or damaged shipments. It is great for those type of situations.
My next cell phone will have all of this plus corporate email functions.

OK so I'm reading everyone's reviews and I've noticed that those
who gave the phone one star used a nokia previously. Here's a tip:
LEARN TO USE A MOTOROLA. You dimwits a nokia and a motorala ARE
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!! A motorola doesn't work like a nokia. Before
you give up after one week on a phone cause you dont't know how
to turn it off, or you dont't know how to change the options so
it doesn't go to your voicemail after two rings - READ THE MANUAL!!
And if the phone is turning off by itself, did you ever stop to
think that maybe the battery died?? Or if your phone was dropping
calls or you were getting bad reception - did you ever stop to realize
that your service SUCKS!! I have never heard so many flamboyant
and over-exaggerated complaints in my entire life. The worst one
was the idiot that said she didn't get missed calls, but got them
2 or 3 days later. Maybe that's cause people don't call you EVERYDAY
- and I can see why. Please, please, for the sake of humanity, use
common sense before blaming everything and the war on your phone!! Rating:

I've always had Motorola phones, since they were the size of a house
brick and weighed pounds. But I am becoming disillusioned with the
V600. I've read all the previous reviews and it seems Motorola lacks
consistent quality control. yes, for a bells and whistles phone
it takes excellent pictures, but you cant send them.. video clips,
a joke Text messaging, they come in when the phones in a good mood,
often hours after sending, and some do go missing and this is with
the useful O2 provider. The keypad and face, screens and surrounds
are badly marked and shiny stuff wearing through in places. I carry
this phone in my jeans pocket always and though it is a clamshell,
leaning on it will; 1, turn the phone off 2, change the ring from
vibrate to loud. 3, give you white screen syndrome The volume control
is oversensitive , also a fault on the bluetooth headset, which
I find gives me earache after several hours of car wearing and is
not loud enough when driving on a motorway, even with the earpiece
held close into the ear And as for battery life, mine is now down
to 36 hours standby, it was only marginally over 72 hours from day
1. And yes it has been cycled according to instructions and it is
a high power original battery. The instruction manual I find difficult
and not informative enough, bluetooth was difficult to set up and
the GPRS is a law unto itself, Access the intenet? I dont think
so, despite visits to the O2 shop and numerous calls to the O2 helpline.
Altogether I am not happy with this phone, but I dont think I'd change
to Simens or Motorola, they look dated and it would mean unlearning
years of hello moto ! Rating:

is more advanced than T9 - Good size The BAD: - Can only search
phone book by first letter. This is absolutely ridiculous. You have
to keep scrolling for a loooong time to find a name. - Switches
off randomly - Would not stop ringing once and neither could it
be sitched off. Had to remove the battery to shut it down. - Will
not receive messages unless you are in standby mode. - Plastic front
cracked easily. I had my phone in the pocket and leaned against
the table. It cracked. Went to customer service to replace it. No
parts were available. Went back again 1 month later, still no parts.
Was told to leave my number and I will be called when the parts
arrived. Its been 4 months now and still no call or parts. - Can't
save draft rtext messages - message is lost if you stopped temporarily
to answer a call. I finally went back to using my Siemens ME45,

i have always been a long time user of the nokia. so i thought of
a change and bought a motorola v600 when i needed to upgrade my
nokia 8850. the A&P on the phoen was great and attractive.i am not
one who buy every new phone that comes out but i use my hand phones
for a long time (usually 3 years) as i am a creature of habit and
do not like to change my phone until it is absolutely necessary.
BUT TO MY DESPAIR, this is the greatest mistake i have ever made.
i should be throwing this motorola into the dump very soon. as i
gave it its due time and used it for about 6 months. i gave myself
all the ample time to get used to it but this phone is really junk
!! i cant get used to the shoody user menu and the user functionality
that is so poor!! as soon as the next new nokia that comes out,
i will change this. all the complaints about the lousy user menu
is true! i hate losing my unfinished text message when i accidentally
press the wrong key. i hate the fact that i have to reboot t he
phone if i send out too many sms messages especially if i am roaming.
this is because if i dont do it, somehow the messages remains unsent.
the fact that the phone wont ring when the bluetooth is on is so
un-user friendly ! i have to keep the headset on my ear (which could
be a very painful thing if i am driving long distance), if not i
will miss my calls!! the phone cant handle vibrate and ring at the
same time! this is so bad because i always dont have time to reach
into my pocket and answer my call as it only ring out twice before
the line goes to voice mail. this is so poor user function! and
it absolutely useless when i am driving or in a crowded and noisy
place. the nokia that rings and vibrates the same time is absoluely
great! the V600 always crashes and this is unacceptable for such
a high end and expensive phone. the filmsy clam shell is useless
when answering calls because if i reach into my pocket to get the
phone and accidentally opens the clam shell slightly and closes
it; the call is then answered and cut off when i finally get the
phone out of my pocket. again, bad user design and absolute disgrace
to motorola for not paying attention to the phone's user functionality.
the battery life on the phone is absolutely ridicolous and terribly
short and this gets worse when the battery get older! the menu to
retrieve a name or contact is so badly design as i cant select the
name that i want but have to scroll thru the whole contact list
to make a call. the fact that i cant send business cards or contact
details out directly on a sms message is also very frustrating.
when my friends ask for number, i have to hang up and look thru
the scroll list for the details and memorise by heart and then type
a new sms on the number and then only i can send it through. again,
nokia is miles ahead in the department!! can u believe that one
cannot adjust the speaker volume on the phone unless a call comes
in and u have to adjust it during the call. if not, u can only adjust
the ring volume when there is no call in use. absolutely ridiculous!
and i need not say more about the user profiles ! it is consistent
with the behaviour of the rest of the phone , its absolutely infuriating
!!!this phone have the most confusing user menu ever! for those
who want to buy a new phone, please do yourself a favour and give
this one a miss. for those who have bought this phone, just open
the window and chuck it out like what i did yesterday !! Rating:

I've always owned a Nokia but as a mystery shopper I was convinced
through listening to many talks how great this phone is by the store
staff I purchased it. The photos are good, but thats all. The sound
is not very good and you have to press down hard on the fliped part
to hear properly. BY FAR THE WORST FEATURE IS THE VOLUME CONTROL
on the side of the phone that if it gets pushed even slightly the
volume is turned down and so you miss calls. I hate this phone also
when you write a text and for some reason you can't complete it
all, the message disappears and so you need to start again, unlike
Noki's which saves the message for you. I only have 6 months left

I am in dispair with this phone. I got the V600 3 months ago, and
like many people here, it was the first time I hadn't bought a Nokia.
I was quite surprised that it being a Motorola the menu wasn't too
difficult to get to grips with. However, about 6 weeks later, the
signal suddenly went. Thought it was the network but I put my SIM
card in another phone and it was fine. It was a bit of a battle
getting Orange to accept there was a problem, but once I 'persuaded'
them they replaced the phone straight away. So, new phone, no problems.
Great. Not. Here we are 6 weeks on with the new phone, and it is
broken again. I received a text message last night, picked up the
phone, opened the clamshell cover and the screen was lit up but
nothing on it. So I assumed it had crashed. I switched the phone
off and on again, and basically the screens on both sides of the
phone don't work. I am assuming something has come disconnected
in it as the keypad lights up and all the noises happen as yo u
would expect. But I have now lost all of my numbers as they were
saved to the phone (be warned - don't do what I did and not back
them up!), all of my pictures and videos, and text messages. And
I still don't know who text me last night which is the most infuriating
thing of all!!! I don't recommend this phone at all. I know Nokia's
are getting dated, but look at them - they're easy to use, the batteries
last forever, they're light and they don't break. I am definitely
going back to Nokia if this 3rd phone breaks when it arrives tonight. Rating:

I'd love to love this phone, but as I'm now on my second replacement
phone, I must admit that I am hoping that this one will be defective,
too, which will enable my mobile service provider to replace it
with another phone entirely. Cingular Wireless (45 millions customers,
thank you) has pulled this phone from their lineup because of the
high number of RF problems. The only major mobile company in the
USA still selling this phone is T-Mobile. The phone appears to work
passably (not very well at all) for several weeks, when it becomes
argumentative. Eventually, calls begin to be dropped every 10-15
minutes (and sometimes more frequently). As I have explained to
Cingular, I can sit completely still in a chair while talking for
15 minutes with no signal problems and then I get dead air. Then
I must wait at least 30 seconds to recover the signal. Friends with
the electronically similar V400 have none of the same issues while
in the same room. Completely unacceptable for a high-end quad-band

and I am now just waiting until we have done the agreed three returns
with Carphone Warehouse just to exchange for a system which won't
echo while bluetooth is being used. We have also had the lacxk of
battery storage, phone switches itself off on receipt of calls etc.

The V600 is a great phone; high resolution camera, wonderful sound
quality on normal calls as well as with the integrated speakerphone.
video clips are dreamy, The exterior is classy and elegant. My only
qualm is the battery life. Because of the situational lighting on
the exterior, the battery barely lasts a day or two before I need
to charge it, unlike my V400 or V505 which holds charges for up
to 3-4 days. Another recommendation is to ignore the british and
south africans who have been talking trash about this phone. Obvioulsy
they have not had the varied experience of cell phones needed to

The Moto V600 is the best phone I've ever had, despite there being
a strange quirk with duplicate phonebook entries... however if you
figure out the manufacturers way of thinking with this phone it
will make sense. I really like the way you can customise the seven
hotkeys for any functions you want, also rearrange the main menu
so things are where you want them. I suppose it's all down to preferrence
though I believe alot of software problems where on the earlier
batches, as I've not had these. It's at the size limit I would say,
for a flip-phone, & weight-wise it feels mettalic, not cheap & plastic...
it's ergonomic, like a big pebble off a beach. The V600 has all

i've been experiencing reception problems since the day i got the
phone, tried the sim card on a nokia phone from a family member,
no problems there. the dump thing about the phone is that it can
handle ring and vibrate at the same time, so if someone tries to
call you, your phone will first vibrate and then ring, which means
(i've tested this) that you will hear your phone on your caller's
4th ring! when you are driving, you need to have the bluetooth headphone
attached to your ear the whole time as it won't ring through the
phone if you switch your headphone on.... i don't believe motorola
has done too many userbility testing before releasing this phone
as some of the navigation is very unlogical to find and use. to
top all these off, i have been running to the repair centre 3 ti

Well I've had four of these handsets to date. It's not surprising
that I decided to opt for the v600 initially, due to its jazzy ringtones
(Hello Moto!) and the exceptional lighting effects. However do not
be tempted by such features. In reality, this offering from Motorola
is nothing short of useless. The build quality of the phone is aweful,
with the back cover being either too tight or too slack. The phone
should not come with removable covers - as they are annoying and
sharp to the touch. The keypad is, in my opinion, another design
flaw. On my first handset, it seems that the keys would fall out
with overuse - indeed this was apparant in all of my other handsets.
The user interface is most confusing and at times - simply annoying.
However, one should not overlook some of the spectacular features
of this phone - the amazingly clear display, the unusual polyphonic
ringtones, the excellent quality camera and also the bluetooth connections.
But if faced with a choice between this and the Sony Ericsson K700i,

have to keep it set to manual almost constantly. Other small problems
are the ways the external buttons do more than light up the external
screen so the damned phone is always beeping in my pocket and lighting
up like Vegas. But is has yet to fail me when I need it, the ring
tones are loud, and it has a lot of features. A good phone, with
many problems. Rating:

I had a Samsung V200 before this but hated the thing, so I bought
a V600 on O2 instead. First impressions are very good, it feeels
very sold, quality, and I like the Bluetooth headset which comes
in the box. The menus and the text system take a while to get used
to, but once you are used to it, there are no problems and its a
nice system to use. The phone itself is excellent, good call quality,
the headset works well with it, and I like the brushed metal finish.
The only complaint I have with the phone is with regards the sound
profiles, such as Loud, Soft, Vibrate etc. They can get somewhat
complicated what with all the different settings for messages, voice
calls etc etc. Overall however a great phone. Rating:

AFTER OWNING THE V300,A BRILLIANT PHONE WITH EXCELLENT FEATURES
AND A FANTASTIC DESIGN. I THOUGHT FOR A WHILE AND READ MANY REVIEWS,AND
DECIDED TO BUY THE V600. I WAS TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH WHAT MOTOROLA
DID WITH THIS PHONE. POOR SOUND,KEEPS ON FREEZING,AND THE AMOUNT
OF ERRORS THAT KEEPS ON POPPING UP!!!!!!! I'VE LOST 98 PICS AND
5 GREAT POLYPHONIC TUNES. WHAT A DISASTER! I REGRET BUYING THIS
PHONE, SURE IT HAS PRETTY GOOD FEATURES, BUT THE QUALITY OF ACTUAL
FEATURES GOOD FOR NOTHING. WHAT'S THE POINT ON PUTTING ON GOOD FEATURES
IF THEY DON'T WORK PROPERLY? VERY DISAPPOINTED AND I'M CURRENT TRYING
TO REPAIR THE AMOUNT OF ERRORS THAT ARE IN THE PHONE AND IT'S COSTING
ME AN ARM AND A LEG. VERY GUTTED, I THINK I SHOULD JUST STICK WITH
THE V300. Rating:

The first non-Nokia phone I've ever owned - and the worst phone
I've ever owned. All the features are just fine but if only the
handset worked properly. In the space of 3 months it's been replaced
twice due to processor error and broken keyboard- both times I lost
all my pictures and tunes, now it's broken again as the button that
turns the screen on is stuck on so the battery runs down in a few
hours! There is no keyguard so if you keep the phone in your pocket
the button on the side get knocked and turns the ringer off! Rating:

look, i just want to say where you ALL CAN SEE that there IS, i
repeat THERE IS a way to have multiple numbers or phonebook entries
UNDER ONE NAME. PRIMARY CONTACTS. find that in the settings, and
then when you're in the phone book, you just hit left or right to
see the different numbers. i have 3 different work numbers in my
phone, ALL UNDER ONE NAME. it doesn't say my company's name 3 times.
only once. this is on all of the v series phones. i am SICK of reading
about people complaining about this when it says in the manual how
to change it!
