Motorola PEBL
Review
Phone
rating:
The
Motorola PEBL (V6 or U6) is a beautifully crafted phone, with a
tactile finish, an automatic opening & closing mechanism and
a great-looking keypad, similar to that of the V3. However, that's
where the good bits end. It's as if Motorola fell so in love with
the look and feel of their new PEBL that they forgot to put in any
decent features or to make it work well as a phone.
For
a phone priced to sell at over £200, you should get a lot
more than a VGA camera (that's just 0.3 megapixels). There's a poor
quality video camera, but no MP3 player, which a phone of this type
is pretty well expected to have these days. And with a memory of
just 5 Mbytes, there's no room to store any pictures, videos or
ringtones anyway. The memory limitation alone makes this phone pretty
well useless. We could talk about the features that the PEBL does
have, like the speaker-independent speech
recognition for handsfree use, but overall the phone has no substance.
Features
of the Motorola PEBL V6/U6 include:
- VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) with 2x digital
zoom and flash
- Video camera
- External black & white display with clock
- Internal display: 262k colours, 176 x 220 pixels
- Speaker independent speech recognition for handsfree
use
- Voice memo
- MP3 ringtones
- Messaging: SMS, EMS 5.0, MMS,
Instant Messaging, email (POP3, SMTP, IMAP4)
- iTap predictive text
- Java games (embedded & downloadable)
- Screensaver
- Picture caller ID
- Photo phonebook
- WAP 2.0, GPRS Class 10
- Connectivity: Bluetooth Class 2, USB
- Memory: 5 Mbytes
- Quad band
- Size: 87 x 49 x 20 mm
- Weight: 110g
- Talktime: up to 400 minutes
- Battery standby: up to 250 hours

a mega pixiel camera but if your looking for great pictures buy

Theres a lot of people saying this phone is the worst they've had.
Now my last phone was a Ericsson T60 and in comparison the pebl
is much better. If you want a great camera buy a camera if you want
a great mp3 player buy an ipod if you want a great video recorder
buy a bloody camcorder. Its a great looking phone which is simple
to use. The battery lasts quite a while and the ringtones sound
great. And to all those people who said this is the worst phone
they've had have they forgot the nokia 8110. Enough said..

The people who complain that this phone doesn't have enough features
are ridiculous. No multi-functional electronic item can possibly
perform as well as its constituents. In short, if you want a lot
of megapixels, get a digital camera. If you want to shoot video,
buy a camcorder. If you want to listen to mp3's, buy an mp3 player.
A phone will never be able to do all of these things well all at
once. That said, if you want a stylish phone that performs all the
functions expected of a phone (which is intended to be a device
used to place calls) with a few nice extras, buy a PEBL.

you've never owned one? I bought one for my wife. A disappointment.
Sleek design and nice to hold but it's not very robust, the menu's
are confusing to navigate, and the whole phone is just selling itself
on aesthetic value. I care not for megapixels and memory, but a
more durable phone that didn't keep getting faults would be nice.
Avoid this phone, I'm sticking to Nokia, they last longer

Lets face it.. the all singing all dancing advert has fooled us
into thinking that motorola have created an evolutionary masterpience
with the PBEL - the truth? I wish i'd kept my nokia. Not only is
the memory distinctly poor, the sound recording function shockingly
quiet (and thus practically unseable) and the menu a nightmare to
opperate.. the weeks worth of waiting i went through to get it were
a complete waste of my time. Thanks motorola for conning us into
thinking that the sleek and sexy pebl would be a beneficial tool
for everyday life. Now don't get me wrong, i'm about as shallow
as they come when we're talking aesthetics, and normally.. a few
down sides wouldnt worry me providing it looked fantastic, but it
just doesnt measure up to other phones on the market now. It has
far too few good points about it and quite frankly, with the options
offered on phones these days, the PEBL is looking more and more
like a fancy nokia 3310. Sorry but it's just lame. (And for those
of you thinking it's my own fault for being caught up in the commericialism
and vanity of having the newest 'craze' phone.. i totally agree,
i'm ashamed of myself and i wont touch another motorola after this!)

well, i don't have this phone, but from the sounds of it, all the
people putting this phone down, are the ones who want the top notch
features of the 3g and smart phones. so surley these people, noticed
it didn't have the major features like the d600. this phone wasn't
built to be like the nokia n70 or the samsung d600, it was built
to look good in a small compacked design, not for the massive features
on other phones. it was built to be small and stylish for the simple
you with good taste not no phone nerd who wants all the features.
so to all the people comlaing about this phone, it's your own fault
you brought it instead of the samsung d600, you brought it instead

I chose this phone on a new contract. It feels lovely and fits comfortably
in my hand. I wasn't 100% sure about the slide opening action, but
decided to go for it thinking that I'd get used to it, I've never
had a flip phone before. After using it for a few of days, I still
haven't mastered the opening action. It sometimes opened but sometimes
slides back up. The phone hasn't always rung when its been called.
Yesterday I had a text telling me that I'd missed a call that had
been made a minute earlier, I don't know why I got the text and
not the call because the phone was sitting next to me on the table
the whole time with the ring tone on a loud 5. The ring tone has
mysteriously gone down to level 1 on another occasion. I've looked
for the button I might have pressed by accident when the phone is
closed to change the ring level but haven't found it. The battery
doesn't last long. As mentioned in a previous review, the handbook
doesn't cover everything so trying to find out how to delete a text
took ages. Playing with a new phone to see how it works is fun but
it got tedious with this handset and drained the battery. The lack
of high tech functions doesn't bother me, I knew that it was thin
on the ground in that area, I just want to make calls and the odd
text...ah, texting, another story...! . Oh and to keep it clean
you'd need a cover, which negates the whole pebble touchy feely
thing. I'm exchanging it for a straightforward 'no filp' phone

force of the opening action. The look and feel of the phone are
tranquil and then you are rudely brought up short with this brutal
opening. I had read enough reviews to have been led to believe the
action would be soft and smooth and in keeping with the whole 'ethos'
of the phone. It isn't. I am severely disappointed. I then spent
two hours 'playing' with my new phone. Let me correct that. I sent
a text message, received one back, then spent two hours trying to
figure out how to delete a received text message. I have read the
handbook cover to cover and am now fully au fait with fancy things
such as voice activation and instant messaging, but I still can't
delete a text message! I only ever upgrade my phone when the old
ones on its last legs, so sadly its a bit of an exciting event for
me. Thanks to the new PLEB, today so far has been a let down.:(
******* I eventually had to phone Motorola and get idiot proof instructions
on how to delete a text message! The problem is its not straight
forward, there is nothing written in the User Guide and some of
the function buttons aren't even labelled and explained in the diagrams.
Yesterday more trauma with the PLEB as it took it into it's feeble
mind to change the message alert tone 4 times and the ring tone
twice. How clever, a phone with a mind of its own. My advice to
anyone thinking about making this their latest purchase is: STEP
AWAY FROM THE PLEB AND TRY TWO TIN CANS AND A LENGTH OF STRING!

Like many people, I could not wait for this phone to hit the high
street. What an anticlimax, when I eventually got my hands on one
at my local phone store, I was extremely disappointed. The build
quality is shoddy and Fisher Privce must have designed opening mechanism!
The whole experiance was teribble so I decided to go for the new
V3i instead. What a luck escape... the V3i is everything that the
PEBL isn’t!

This phone is awful. The cheap rubber exterior marks very easily
with fingerprints! The display has a silly groove all the way round
which will just get full of tiny bits of dust etc. I don't like
the flip open action either. I currently have the V3 Wwhich is much
better looking. Going to swap the PEBL for Samsung E350. I don't
like the design of the phone that much that I didn't bother to put
the sim card in so can't say anything about the phone's features!

this phone from carphone warehouse priced at £184.99 on orange after
seeing it advertise on t.v and i really hate it, i tried to take
it back but they said something about it being special edition nd
some thing like that so now im stuck with a phone that i hate! thank
god ive still got my good old nokia 6230 i was planning on selling
it just before i got the pebl and thank godness i didnt! so i have
no idea wot im gonna do with this pebl junk think i'll sell it on

What a terrible phone. This is a real victory of style over substance.
It is unquestionably beautiful, feels great in the hand and draws
admiring glances, but as a piece of equipment it is rubbish: - Very
clunky software - the UI is pretty but inefficient - Texting is
a real pain (and I'm not a text-maniac - if I were more text-focussed
this phone would drive me insane) - Very poor bluetooth - it doesn't
export many functions, and won't work with my Tom Tom navigator
- Where's the memory??? It can only hold about 40 texts I got it
free, and it's now being replaced with a Nokia. Motorola need to
learn from Nokia or Samsung that functionality is as important as
good looks.

Why do Motorola insist on making top quality looking/feeling phones
with the worst firmware and features ever? This phone has about
4 megs of memory, can't fit ANYTHING on there! MP3's are really
loud and clear but there's no dedicated player and they must be
recoded to like 32kb/s and a low sampling rate just to fit 3 songs
on the phone! My main complaint though, and the reason i'm sending
this phone back, is because of the texting!! I can write a message,
and when i'm finished i have to wait for the phone to catch up.
I text fast, and i expect the latest mobile phones to be able to
keep up with me! Wouldn't really recomment this phone to anyone.
Also the sound quality on calls is pretty low, find people are saying
"sorry? Say that again!" when i'm talking to them!

I changed from Nokias for many years to Motorola (V3) a year ago
and it took a bit of getting used to. Just upgraded to the V6 Pebl
and it's great. Granted there are phones on the market that have
oodles more features but I only use it to make calls and text. The
memory isn't huge so you'll need to delete messages when you have
40 or so but that's not the end of the world. It feels and looks
like a stylish phone. It's MUCH better than I thought it would be
and smaller too. No regrets yet!

just upgraded to the pebl from a sony ericsson k700i and i am already
planning on sending the pebl back. ill try give best review i can,
its stunning to look at it feels super smooth and the new opening
feature is pretty swanky. but iam a 25 year old girl who needs a
little more from my phone. the main drawbacks are lack of memory
for photos and tunes, which are the main reason some of you may
buy the latest phones. if it is please dont get this phone hoping
you might get use to it,like i did. it dont work its a real pain,
espically if you had ericsson phone with more than 5 times more
memory. the pebl i guess would be ideal for a man as the keypad
is flat like the razor and if you have long nails like me its quite
easy to press the wrong buttons ALL THE TIME, men may not have same
problems. also i dont think this phone is as user friendly as the
samsung or nokia's that are around. menus and features are very
basic and nothing you'd expect from a NEW modern phone. The camera
is top quality though, colours bright and sharp. Although i could
only save a handful as not much memory at all. I'd love to say this
phone is perfect in every way because motorola have got the styling
spot on, the look, the feel and photo quality is pure class. but
it wouldn't be recommend to any of my friends... sorry to let you
down people.

WHY OH WHY do the Motorola phones have such small memory?!?! They
are wonderful phones - fantastic features and easy to use as well
as being totally gorgeous. However, they are all around 5MB memories.
I mean I have the Samsung D500 and that has 80MB!! At least the
Motorolas should have a memory card. Some phones nowadays even have
up to about 2GB which is outrageous. 5MB is pathetic in comparison
and I just wish Motorola would improve it! Pleeeeeeeeease!!!
