Motorola E1000 Review

Phone rating:

Review: February 2005. Updated September 2006.

The Motorola E1000 is a very powerful 3G mobile that combines the functionality of a phone with an MP3 player / media player.

The E1000 supports the full range of 3G services. This includes video calling, video messaging and downloading video content such as sports or music. It also has Assisted GPS for accurate location-based services on the 3G network.

It has one of the best quality screens in any 3G mobile with 262k colours and an ultra-high resolution of 240 x 320 pixels which is even more than the best smartphones currently available. It's a superb platform for any kind of video content. The integrated 1.2 megapixel digital camera is also one of the best available in any current phone, making the E1000 almost unbeatable when it comes to imaging.

As if this was not enough, the E1000 is also one of the best MP3 player phones around. It features twin 3D stereo speakers for high quality sound, and with its removable TransFlash™ memory cards, it can store a decent number of MP3 tracks. At the time of writing (February 2005), TransFlash™ memory cards are available in sizes up to 256 Mbytes. A stereo headset can also be used with the phone.

The Motorola E1000 is an exceptionally well-featured phone that's not too expensive. When it comes to multimedia its simply one of the best phones on the market today. The high weight and poor battery life are definitely a disadvantage, and some may find the Motorola user interface unintuitive, but for those looking for the functionality that the E1000 offers and who are prepared to live with these shortcomings, its a great phone. The E1000 has now been replaced by the E1070.

Features of the Motorola E1000 include:

  • Display: Active matrix TFT, 262,000 colours, 240 x 320 pixels
  • 1.2 megapixel camera with camera light and 8x digital zoom
  • Video capture, playback and download
  • MP3 player
  • 3D stereo speakers
  • MP3 ringtones & 22-voice polyphonic ringtones
  • Downloadable themes: animated screensavers, wallpapers and ringtones
  • Java™ games: embedded & space for downloads
  • Messaging: SMS, EMS, MMS, email, Group SMS, instant messaging
  • iTap™ predictive text
  • Voice activated dialling
  • In-built hands-free speakerphone
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth™ & USB
  • Phonebook: up to 500 entries
  • Picture phonebook
  • Calculator, currency converter, date and clock, PIM functionality
  • Vibration alert
  • Memory: 16 Mbytes + removable TransFlash™ memory card (up to 256 Mbytes)
  • WAP 2.0, GPRS, XHTML web browser
  • Triband
  • Size: 114 x 52 x 23 mm
  • Weight: 140g
  • Talktime: up to 2 hours
  • Battery standby: up to 150 hours

This phone has to be the worst phone I have ever owned. The amount of problems is endless, on paper it looks like a excellent phone but in realality its apalling. The battery life is dreadful, the camera is grainy and poor quality and the videos are even worse. The joy pad is very temperamental and often doesn't work, the address book saves a contacts different numbers as seperate entries. It often resets without reason, the reception seems to just go sometimes but this could be my operator (Three). The menu is aimed at 3 year olds with stupid icons, also underneath the screen it collects more dust than a duster. There are more problems but too many to list. I only have two postitive comments, the screen quality is really good when you upload your own photos and also when playing music the speaker quality is high. I definitely would not recommend anyone buying this phone.

Absolute pile of rubbish.... I was recommended this phone because of all the wierd and wonderful things it can do and because I'm on a contract that I cant get out of i am now on my 3rd handset! (Vodafone wont let me have another make so im stuck with it) Where do i begin.... Battery life is awful, if you make any calls it has to be charged every day, the picture quality is grainy, video quality is grainy and to get any decent pictures you have to faff about in the menu to get the correct light settings. Not good when you want to record something on the spur of the moment. You can leave the automatic setting on but whats the point when you want the best quality you can get and automatic certainly doesnt provide that. The screen keeps locking and the only way i can get it back to normal is to take the battery out and turn it back on that way. Apparently Vodafone have had no other customers complain about this phone, if thats the case and theyre such good phones why dont they sell them anymore???? My hubby has a nice Samsung Z500 and although the texting seems to be a bit long winded it seems like a much better phone and not a housebrick like the E1000. Im expecting my new replacement E1000 to arrive tomorrow, lets see what thats like!

I have had this phone for some time now and I just cannot get alogn with it. I got the phone because of all the features it boosted and the 3G coverage. Problem is 3G does not work well at the moment. Charging can be a nightmare as the charger does not fit easily. There is no reassuring click that the charger is actually in place. After 6 months of usage the phone buttons are now falling off which is not what I expect as my last phone a Sony Ericsson T68i lasted years. As with the features I just do not use them. My provider constantly sends me messages with nice pictures but it is noe getting tedious. This phone is pretty cheap looking and very heavy.

I have just read the reviews of the E1000 and can't understand them. This is the best phone I have had. No problems with bluetooth, charging, using it when on charge either in the car or at home. The battery life could be better but I have turned of all the bling and everything is fine. My only gripe is with contract im on and im going to change that very soon.

Had this phone since febuary till last week when i broke it. I was pretty impressed with the ease of use and the general 3G technology implimented. Connectivity with other phones is difficult and will make you cry after a while since motorola have figured out a quite obsqure way of doing it. I was dissapointed with its camera abilities even though it has quite a high resolution the picture produced was grainy and dithered. The video recording ability was awful, i think something was wrong with the video encoder software on my phone im not sure but the frame rate fluctuated constantly between 1fps and the manufactures 15fps plus the quality justified why you should use this phone to record video. My final complaint is minor and major at the same time...i beleive the screen is mounted too close and tight to the main case since i have managed to crack the screen within the phone and not cover. Apart from that is was an alright phone lets see how my nokia 8830 goes.

Battery life is horrible in 3G areas. In 2G areas (i.e. like USA), will last up to one week. It's heavy. The joystick starts wearing down after a few months. Can't unlock it. Can't turn off the backlight during recharging - it will finish charging after a few hours, but leave the backlight on until YOU unplug the phone from the mains. So if you leave it charging overnight, the phone battery will be pretty weak in the morning, since the backlight will be on for hours after the charging has finished. The ring setting changes to Loud (and stays that way sometimes) during charging. Bluetooth functionality is poor - you can't find other phones; they must find you. So two e1000's can never talk to one another. File management is absurd - files that do not have specific extensions will not show up in the picture, sound, or video menus. Therefore, if you upload or receive them, you will never be able to delete them. Think twice before buying.

This is by far the best phone i have ever owned. the picture quality is great if you size down the pictures slightly, the sound is great, you can lock the keys despite what everyone says, with a 256mb transflash card installed (£18) you can record 3mins of video (and no transflash are not hard to get ahold of), and store and watch entire movies on the phone encoded on computer!

1) Battery life ain't great but if you read the specs for the phone before you buy it then you will expect this. Personally I don't use all the 3G services, keep the bluetooth off for most of the time and use the battery saving features and I have no problem with it. 2) Phone is easy and simple to use, though the contacts could do with something like a T610 interface. 3) Can't comment on the Three network customer service yet, however I get better coverage where I live & work with 3 than I did with my old service provider Vodafone. 4) Great add on's and great offers available on the phone currently. 5) Camera and Video quality is good 6) Reasonable storage capacity, memory card helps a lot. Basically if you don't do your research on the phone and the network providers then you're asking to be disappointed. If your prepared to put up with the (very few) shortcomings of the phone then I would recommend.

great phone, read my review further down, but the 3 network is appauling when it comes to customer service. They refuse to repair manufacturers fault and are insistent on you paying them more money to upgrade. The lack of communication skills from the call centres and constant repetition during long calls makes the 3 service the worst i have ever encountered. Its a nightmare to find someone who actually understands what your trying to say and then they seem knowledgeless as to offer a suitable solution and instead repeat useless comments that didnt help me the first time they said it, what makes them think saying it 5 more times in a minute will solve anything. Good phone though, shame about 3 network, if u can handle high levels of stress and resist the urge to punch the phone in frustration when ringing customer service then this phone is great.

The Moto E1000 on paper is a very good phone with the kind of features that stand out, such as the mp3 player, camera etc but comes with three distinct problems. The first is that the battery life isnt poor its beyond belief! i cant seem to go a day without having to charge it and even after a 10-12 hr charge the battery still cannot manage to get through more than two calls! Secondly the coverage is appalling and i live in the centre of london! with calls cutting out sometimes after just a minute, resulting in a lot of calling back. The third problem is the customer service. It is appalling with the call centres not understanding anything, resulting in repeating everything twice, and being put on hold a lot, one call lasted 50 minutes! Once my phone had a problem, after 3 months, i sent the phone to them and a resulting letter stated that i had to pay them £50 to upgrade the software! They wouldnt repair the phone otherwise, stating it was because i had dropped the phone that the problem had occured. It took 3 months to resolve this and i had to get a pay as you go resulting in extra cost. Just dont go with three stick to a network that knows how to treat customers.

This phone has an excellent camera with a very good video recording capability (10 seconds). Theres a huge screen and excellent colour display. The joystick is easy to use and the keys are the ideal size for texting. The memory is good and the battery time is god if you dont use the camera all day, but chargnign takes a couple of hours at least which when charging can still be used. Camera on front of phone means u can take a picture of yourself and see the screen aswell. It does however have an average memory but that isnt a problem if u keep deleting old texts. Great phone in total, money well spent.

0 out of 5! In it's favour are good sound. Nice looking screen. MP3 ringtones and video. But that's where it stops. If this is all you want just get yourself an MP3 player, if you want a phone then look elsewhere. The negative things about the phone are: 1.) The battery life is very poor. If it is not used for any calls it will only last 48 hours before the battery packs up. This is true even when the phone is put in "Power saving mode"! If it is used then the battery will last even less. You will find that you have to leave the phone on charge every night and if you forget or want to go away for the weekend without a charger you won't be able to user your phone after the first day as the battery will be flat! It reminds me of when I first had a mobile phone over 10 years ago and that also had to be charged every day. 2.) The phone is quite bulky and heavy. This is 2005 and phones shouldn't be built like bricks any more. 3.) Although it may look like a brick it is in fact very fragile. The case over the screen is made of soft plastic. If you put it in your pocket and lean against a table the plastic covering on the screen will bow into the LCD display and break it. The cost for this repair is £135 and is not covered by the warranty even though it is a design fault. 4.) The ringtone seems to change itself from loud to vibrate and ring to vibrate only and silent. You will find you miss a lot of calls or they will be answered in your pocket while you are totally unaware. 5.) Although this phone boasts a 1.3 Mega pixel camera the quality of the shots is appalling as you will see when you download them to you PC. This is due to the tiny cheap lenses that are installed in the phone.

Appalling. This is an excuse for a phone, coupled with the fact that I am on the 3 network, makes this phone a nightmare. I've read all the reviews on this site and I've used this phone for 4 months now, cursing it everyday. Battery life is non-existent. WHen charging the phone (even when it's put off), the screen is permanently lit. It has no infra-red (don't tell me it's got bluetooth, because a bluetooth is not mutually exclusive to an infrared - learn from Nokia on that). The blue-tooth is cumbersome to put it mildly (I know how to use it, but I've used easier ones). The memory is hardly expandable (go look for a Transflash - I'm yet to find one) and is awkwardly located - BENEATH THE DEAD BATTERY. The connectivity is depressing. A simple USB port might have solved this problem. The phone freezes of its own accord. There is no auto-lock feature, for crying out loud, this is the 21st Century. My Nokia 3130 had autolock! Who says I need pictures I can't delete? The phone comes with some utterly useless pictures that take up space, which I can't delete! I can't record more than 30seconds! - 3G my foot! Pictures are given some weird names automatically by the phone and doesn't give me the option of renaming before I save. So I need to scroll through a myriad of meaningless picture names to get to the one I want to rename it. Contacts? I'd rather rely on my old paper addressbook. Why would I need to enter my pal's name five times just to save his email, cell, land, work and fax numbers? Need I go on? This is the worst phone to be sent to the market. If you are paid to be given one, please decline.

Excessive use does lower the battery life, but it's not a major problem as this phone re-charges very fast. Blue tooth reception is excellent, I purchased a Jabra blue tooth ear piece and the quality when used with the E1000 is first rate. I purchased this phone through Vodafone, and the customer service has been fantastic. All in all a good alround phone system, well priced and stylish.

Video recording is limited to under 60seconds which is quite poor in my opinion, and the internal memory is limited (although you can expand), on holiday i filled it with pictures and the phone was constantly crashing and very very slow! overall this phone is ok, but there need's to be a lot of improvements for the next one!

Anyway I am loving the camera and i think the video quality is brill. I am glad that this fone has an mp3 player and it has a memory card up to 256mb u can put into the fone. The bluetooth is easy to use and the 3G service is up to scratch. One downside I am bothered about is the battery life cos it has to always be on charge as u cant do much without a full battery. Another downside is the weight as it cums in at 140g and most newer fones ( Like Samsung D500 ) weigh less than 100g. Therefore I am giving this fone an excellent rating cos it has evrything u need on a fone these days except good battery and low weight.

Phone is O.K at best. Had it for six months now and can't hack it anymore so have bitten the bullet and gone back to Nokia and Vodafone. Battery life is terrible, as is Three's Network coverage and customer Services. The phone drops calls when moving from a 3g to non 3g area, i hardly ever have a signal and usually only know i've recieved a call by getting a text telling me i have voice mail. definately not user friendly. Heavy and cumbersome. Avoid the phone, and more importantly THREE like the plague.

Looks Good - In the palm of your hand it feels like quality. It does enough to impress you so much when you are looking to make you want one. That is as good as it gets. Heres the flaws: Battery. Need I say anymore. Can't make or recieve calls whilst phone is in car charger!!! If you assign a ringtone to a contact in your address book - the entire ringtone will play if that person text messages you, so you could have a 2 minute tune for a text message. The phones Bluetooth capability is amateur at best in comparison to a Sony Ericsson. This is 2005 and Dust gets under the screen! and can not be cleaned out! If the phone is in your pocket it can answer itself! The phones memory is terrible. If you are lucky to find a memory card you have to take the battery out to insert and retrieve the said card. Wonderful. The alarm clock has a mind of it's own. Phone does not come with any software, games etc... It does come with loads foolish pictures that can not be erased which take up memory. The phones contact layout is primitive. I pray for SONY ERICSSON to introduce a 3G phone on the 3 network. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!!!!

I think that's a load of tripe about the Motorola E1000 having a short battery life. An example to prove this is that on one long weekend (ie 3 days) where I went rock climbing I forgot my charger, I was still able to make around 60 1.2 megapixel photos before the battery was empty. A tip for people with low experience with phones who are having troubles with short battery life is to turn the bluetooth function to off. I've rarely had that on and I haven't had any dramas so far.

Good phone on the outside, looks brilliant - big and bulky but nice finish. First negative is battery life. Lasts 8 hours if you like messing with the camera and mp3 player, and about 16 hours on stand-by. Very poor. The mp3 player is good, with cd-player features like skip repeat and shuffle - you can also customise your own playlists. Speaker quality is good, but not a patch on what I was expecting considering its "3D stereo" - no better than my previous phone (Motorola's V525). The screen is nice and bright with rich colour and a clear menu. I just don't understand why the camera is so poor - its identical in quality to my V525 which I got nearly two years ago and when you go into the media album to view the pictures they look even worse. On this basis I have taken the phone back because I was expecting something with a more advanced camera than my V525. Got a Sharp GX30i which is outstanding and has a screen that rivals TFT computer monitors - no joke. Nice phone Moto, the two stars are for the screen quality and mp3 player, just get the camera, battery life and size sorted.

Battery life is poor but that is the only downside to the phone. I have had it since December and i can report no faults what so ever. Firstly you should charge the battery for at least 15+ hours when you ANY phone brand new. Secondly let the battery completely die the first couple of times you use the phone then Completely charge, you will get the most out of the battery on any phone. The phone is well featured and its camera is ace sound is brilliant and Bluetooth is really fast. Select whatever you want to 'copy' then you have two options 'phone' or 'bluetooth' select 'bluetooth'. Simple. Battery life is a pain hence the 4 stars. i have a memory card which cost £20 and i can record for 3 minutes with a 128mb card that is. A 256 card will allow one record for longer. A class phone!!

This phone has lots of great features: mp3 player, camera, bluetooth, video calling to mention a few highlights. However, the battery life is poor and inconsistent, a full charge gives between 6 hours to a max of 18hours, before it switches off. The joystick jams frequently. To top it all '3' customer service is exceptionally bad. I would advise waiting for another 9-12 months until better battery life 3G phones come out, and avoid '3'.

This is my first 3G phone and im pretty impressed with it, not least by the fantastic smooth metallic black finish. Texting on this phone couldn't be more perfect, the keys are well spaced and feel nice under your fingers - don't be put off by the positioning of the joystick in the middle of the keypad, trust me you'll easily adjust. One thing that I never actually considered but find very useful is the positioning of some buttons up the side of the phone, gone are the days of accidentally cancelling out of something!! The mp3 player is fairly standard in terms of operation, but the sound quality resembles more of a small hifi than a phone, the best i've heard from a mobile phone but don't expect the volume of a hifi. Another plus you can build your own playlists as well as use mp3s as loud vibrant ringtones. The earphones provided are superb, they're not your average tinny handfrees earphone, sound is rich in both treble and bass. Two downsides to point out - firstly the camera isn't quite as good as i'd expect from a phone with a 262k screen, but its still pretty good (smooth enough and has plenty of colour). I recommend you take full advantage of the 1.2megapixel imaging, the pictures look brilliant when you upload them onto your computer (this phone actually comes with a USB lead, thank you motorola - no more searching on ebay for a cheap USB lead). Secondly as other reviews have pointed out the battery life is quite poor, it needs charging every night if you use it heavily during the day, but to be honest it doesn't bother me coz i don't use the phone while im asleep. A pretty dam good phone, would recommend it to anyone who loves feature rich mobiles

Overall very good phone, with slid advanced 3G features and good cameras. However, battery life is a pain. I charge it every night, to avoid the worry, but if I do a lot of surfing or video it may not last a full day, sort of defeats the purpose of being 3G really. Full of bugs. I've checked the forums and made some mods to fix some of the problems, but there are quite a lot. Alarms don't wake up the phone always, seems to depend on Ring Style being set to Loud, Calendar Alarms won't wake up the phone at all. Organiser is pretty basic for such an advanced phone. Very good for web-surfing though with good display and fast connection. Major problems with Ring Style options not doing what they say. Very fuzzy definition of certain items, like reminders (are they alarm sounds or just display?) Contacts are terribly organised, full of bugs. Try typing a letter in contacts view and only 50% chance that it will select a contact beginning with that letter (tried making sure every letter had a primary contact among many other settings). Worst is when the alarms or network connection just plain fails, even with full battery and full signal. Sometimes switching off and on works(i.e. reboot), other times needs a master reset, which erases all of you internet profiles among other things stored in the phone memory. Can't recommend the E1000 for serious use as it is not 100% dependable at's it's basic function, i.e. a phone. Maybe when the next phone and firmware comes out and the bugs are solved, it will be the phone it has the potential to be.

I have had this phone now for about 5 months & i have had no problems. I work in a phone retailer (not linked to 3 so im not just saying this because im a good sales person!) & everyone who i have showed my phone to have had one just because of the fact that the phone is so good. MP3 is top notch as you can have the MP3 files as ringtones & set different MP3s to different people, the playback quaility is very good (providing you have a good MP3 file sent to the handset), the speaker phone is the loudest i have heard on any handset, the dual speakers are loud & very effective & the light is one of the brighest i have seen on a handset that you dont have to attach. The downfalls are that the Motorola Tools Kit (to download files to & from the phone & computer) is very poor unlike the Nokia PS Suite. I always have problems conecting to my laptop even thought i have connected the handset right & the icon pops up in the bottom of my laptop screen, when you transefer or you select a wallpaper that you want it goes all pixalated & it looks poor (but with the aid of Windows XP i have overcome that problem by editing the picture size but it is still annoying that i have to go throught all that trouble!). So i think over all the phone is very good considering i do not like Motorola phones & i always said that i would never personally own one. The battery life is the biggest let down on the handset but then compaired to other 3 handsets thats a minor fault!

Just got the E1000 the other day. I decided on a 3G phone not so long ago, I just didn't know which on to get. I tried to read all the reviews to make an informed choice on the handsets available. I was sceptical at first as a lot of people have said the E1000 is rubbish. But I must say I've grown to like it. Granted, the battery doesn't last more than a day and a half. But the Camera, High-res screen and quality MP4 music videos d/loads are spot on. I've been using 'three' services non-stop the past few days, browsing & d/loading music+footy highlights & the batterys has still held all day, calling people in between, a lot better than I thought. I previously had the NEC e616, which wouldn't even get me thru the day on the chunky car type battery pack they provide, absolute rubbish, as I'm sure some of you will agree. Bluetooth is a very useful feature on this phone & I've used it to great effect. I read somewhere that someone had difficulty sending from the phone to the computer. What you need to do is 'check' (Mark with a tick) the file you wish to transfer, then 'copy file to..,' providing you have a bluetooth adaptor on your PC, the E1000 will discover devices and you can then send to whichever folder you set up to receive files. Simple as. The only files you'll be unable to send are files which have a 'padlock' symbol on them ('three' obviously don't want you to mass distribute, the music video you just d/loaded). Also, to lock your keypad from the front screen, all you need do is press the menu button (Looks like an equals symbol) then the star button quickly. Someone else seemed to think locking the keypad was not possible in another review I read on here. Summary, a good 3G handset (One of the better one's) with v.good multimedia functions. Battery, getting there, will last a day easily.

The interface of the phone is very user-friendly. When I showed it to all my friends, they all admired the slick look of it. I would reccommend this phone to anyone. It's the best 3G phone out at the moment. Well the battery is a bit of a let down but if you charge it every night, then you will be fine. I have had the Motoralla E1000 on a Vodafone contract for three months, but stopped using it after 6 weeks. So, first the bad bits: The battery life is poor - 2 day's max with LIGHT use (ie typically runs out half way through day 2 then your stuck. If you use it's features (eg play videos) then it might not last a day. Secondly, is the built in software. The address book unbelievably (by me anyway) requires a separate entry for every NUMBER (not person). So, you have a pal with three numbers say, you have to enter the pal THREE times. Most other phones you put one name in, and have sevral numbers assosciated with them. Profiles next. It's usually an easy matter to switch from a LOUD setting to a SILENT one. You can't do it quietly with this phone - very frustrating if you are in a meeting. Now the GOOD STUFF. The phone looks brilliant. It has a great screen. Great Stereo sound. One of the few phones that can play vdeos LANDSCAPE as well as portrait. Very cool. There you go then!

Plus, the screen does not turn off during charging, nor even after the battery is re-charged, so if you plug the phone into the mains supply at night, the screen is left on the whole time (and depleting the battery!) after the battery is re-charged. If you intend to talk a lot with the e1000, buy another mains charger and carry it around with you. You'll need it. The phone beeps a few times, and then cuts out.

come on people!! look i admit the battery life aint what you could call good but who cares. you are at home at nite charge your fone then when you wake up in the morning like magic you have a fully charged phone problem solved. the Camera is great and the screen is excellent. alot of people have complained about the size of the phone, if it was a ordinary 2g handset then i can c why people are complainin about the size but compare to everyother 3g candy-bar handset out there and you realize how good it is for its size. also the weight i admit abit heavier then 2g handsets but what do you expect as it is so much better with such a big high quality screen as well!! best phone i have ever had bar none!!

Firstly, everyone stop complaining about the Battery life. motorola supports about 30% more features than of any of the nokia's. with a high resolution 262k screen, stereo mp3 player, 1.2mp camera, video call which makes its hard to compare with a meazly nokia which is inferior in all senses with all its software problems. easy solution to battery problem, get a second battery, problem solved. E1000 sound quality is superb, best i've heard. one cant have a small phone and a large screen at the same time. large screen for better video viewing. tried viewing a video clip on the N6230, woh wat was that, that i just saw. E1000. brilliant video qaulity. overall outstanding phone. will recomend top any prospective purchaser. will give it 10 stars. meet up

I have the e1000 for 4 weeks now. loved it when i got it but sadly as time goes be i begin to hate it more and more. It looks & feels great with excellent screen. I have being using nokia fhones for the past few years and wish i never changed. the only reason i did is because the e1000 has agps. But it is a feature i dont use anymore because it is rubbish and you get charged everytime you use it. So basicly it charges you to give you very poor info. The phone always answers in my pocket because the answer button is on the side. Phone book is really bad. Bluetooth on it is very akward. The phone when you get it is blank, no games, pics, decent ringtones etc and its not compatable with anything on the web to download from. You have an option to password your multimedia but you can bypass that if you use a short cut. I was late for work the first monday i got the fhone because the alarm doesn't go off if the fhone is off. Its really bad at text messages, it doesn't learn well. Camera is excellent, but one of its only good points is ruined because it won't let you take a movie longer than 30sec's, i dont know why it does that. Battery is usless and so is its battery meter. You dont know you need to charge untill its to late. I can only give one star and that goes to its looks.

I have had this phone for 1 week now and initially I was quite excited until I began to realise some major floors! Firstly, The battery life is disgraceful! What is the point of having a mobile if you have to keep it plugged in to the mains in order to use it! Talk time is well under 2 hours! The battery went flat on me while I was on the line to a customer service representative, and that is after the red battery indicator had been on for only 5 minutes! Secondly and more annoyingly, is the fact that one cannot make nor receive calls when the phone is connected to the in car charger! Now combine this fact with the fact that the battery life is so poor! Makes this beautifully designed handset virtually useless when one is out and about! Thirdly, The lack of an infrared port is rather annoying! In saying that it does have bluetooth connectivity. Another down side is the fact that the compartment for the Trans flash memory card is located beneath the battery compartment. I guess the designer figured out that this should not be a problem as the battery would invariably be flat (due to such a poor battery life). Hence, there would be no need for you to power off your phone in order to change memory cards the battery will take care of that! Now that's Genius! Fourthly, The phone does not come supplied with the micro Trans flash memory card which at the moment is only limited to 128Meg,unlike the Nokia 6600 which is supplied with the handset as standard albeit with a 32meg MMC card. I have searched high and low to buy one on the high street to get one but, wey hey! No joy! Sorry to be so negative, but there are certain crucial things in this day and age that one comes to expect from mobile phones, and the Motorola e 1000 is lacking in the essentials which otherwise lets down what could have been an exceptionally good phone! When I started writing this review I had initially given the Motorola E1000 a rating of 3 stars, but it has dawned on me as I continue to type this review that the handset is not worthy of more than 2 stars! Think long and hard before choosing this handset and ask yourself " can I live with all these floors?" To be foretold is to be forewarned!

The best one i've ever got so far. Audio? It's fantastic. You can't find this kind of sound(3D)with any phone today. Video is superb. It plays even the 3GPP file format converted by Nokia MMConverter. You think it's heavy? It's full packed with goodies man...not to mention being a 3G phone. What about SE V800, or Nokia 6600, do you say they are light and not bulky? The only thing Motorola should improve is their promotions, advertising and designs.

Phone and features are fine, battery life and talk time is exceptionally poor! Be aware, actual talk time is only 2:15 minutes, then your phone WILL SHUT DOWN. Had software upgrade done to increase battery life, but to no avail, maybe a 10% increase in performance. Lacks the excellent battery life and talk time of a Nokia. Also, with a Nokia, you can add a mobile number, a home or business number, a fax number, e-mail address and web adress under the contact's name. However, with the Motorola, the contact's details are broken up and stored as individual "contacts". For example, if you had a total of 50 people's contact details on your Nokia phone, and you had a a home or business number, a fax number, e-mail address and web adress for each contact, Motorola will break each of those up and store it seperately, which means that you now suddenly have 50 X 5 "contacts" in your phone book. The frustration does not end there. With a Nokia, you can search for a contact by entering the 1st letter of the contact, and for example all the names starting with "A" will be listed. You can then refine your search, by adding the next letter of the contact's name, i.e. "Al.." (for Allen). Nokia's menu will then take you to all your contacts starting with "Al". And if you add the third letter, the search is further refined, etc. NOT SO with Motorola! Your number of contacts have already been multiplied by the number of entries you had under the particular contacts' name. Now with the Motorola, you have to manually search thru all the "A"'s (keeping in mind that you wil have 5 contacts for "Allen Smith"(all being the same person). There is no refined search facility. So you have to manually scroll down thru all the contacts under that particular letter of the alphabet: how frustrating! Yes, there are some nice features, such as the MP3 player, and the big screen with excellent resolution. But it does NOT make up for the frustration of the extremely poor battery life. I'd rather prefer a phone with less feautures and a longer battery life, than vice versa.

Absolute rubbish phone. It's too big, too bulky and too heavy. It has a battery life of about one and a half days, two days if you're really lucky. It consistantly cuts out when on a call and the coverage is terrible compared to my old Panasonic. Extremely disappointed customer...
