The
Motorola C975 is an entry-level 3G mobile with a traditional "candy
bar" shape, and is available on the 3 network.
Featurewise,
the C975 is a good all-rounder with everything that you would expect
from a 3G phone: video calling & video content downloads, integrated
mp3 player, integrated speakerphone, a good quality display, and
an expandable memory. The expandable memory is a very useful feature,
enabling you to store content like video clips and MP3 tracks on
a TransFlash card (up to 256 Mbytes), although you shouldn't expect
to be able to store as much as a dedicated mp3 player.
There
are two cameras on the C975. The first points inwards and is used
for video calling. The second faces outwards and is intended for
taking pictures of people or scenes. The quality of both cameras
is fine, and the screen is large with 65k colours. It compares favourably
with rival 3G phones.
Usefully,
the C975 comes with an integrated speakerphone and voice dialling
- ideal for video calls.
The
build quality of the C975 is not really up to scratch and it does
have a tendency to break. The joystick is badly designed and is
not easy to use. The
battery life is also poor, and the phone cannot be recommended.
The Motorola V975 has virtually
the same specification as the C975, but is a clamshell design.
Features
of the Motorola C975 include:
3G services: video calling, video messaging
& video clip downloading
External VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) with
LED light and 4x digital zoom

Well after 10 months with this phone , what can I say but brilliant
, never a call dropped , its got lots of stuff I have not used ,
and probably never will , cos a phone is for talking , and after
10 months which hasnt cost me a penny due to the free minutes and
texts well what more do you need, yes the "3" content is exclusive
and you cant really go anywhere else but to their grace , they are
getting better , content improving all the time and for a minimal
amount you can surf to where you like , so stop whinging about what
it has and hasnt got , if you want to play music get a MP3 player
, if you want to take pics get a camera , lets face it , a phone
is for TALKING, and anything else is a bonus for maybe the odd emergency
or that on the spot never to be seen again moment .So all in all
a good phone and a good tariff on contract...full marks. Rating:

Pro (yes, just one): The camera is an acceptable quality for viewing
on the phone's screen (if I want a good quality photo I use a real
camera). Cons: Poor battery life (needs charging EVERY day), poor
signal strength, dire call quality - keep getting cut off and every
conversation I have is 'bitty'. The menus are largely uninspired,
the contact list isn't exactly easy to use, text messaging is a
pain in the rear end, the joystick is clumsy - it's easy to select
things by mistake.... need I go on? Conclusion: I wouldn't have
another one if I was paid to use it. Rating:

The phone is ok, not excellent, but I think it should at least get
a "good" rating. Yes, it is heavy, but it doesn't really matter
to me. I am very very careful with the joystick now since I have
read some comments saying the joystick broke after 2 weeks. So I
seldom play around with it, just do the simple thing, calling and
texting. But I do run into a problem now, I tried to do msg texting
today, after writing the text, I press the "send", it went into
the phone book, and you should be able to choose a name from the
phone book and press "send" again, but the "send" is grey, meaning
it's disabled. Any idea what's wrong? Any idea where to get "technical
support"? Another thing is the battery life, really rather short.
Less than 1 hour of total talk time, the battery is flat. Rating:

For the price you pay this phone is excellent. It gives you everything
you could want for not a lot of money (compared to other video phones).
The only problem with this phone is that i bouht it on threepay
(3's excuse for pay as you go), it deletes your credit after 30
days, it charges you to download videos even if it says there is
a technical glitch or not enough memory on phone, i have lost 18
pound due to this and when you try and phone the call centre you
are always calling india for some reason and they wont give you
your money back, they wouldnt even admit that i had tried to download
this movie. Unlocking this phone from threepay is damn near impossoble,

It's big, there's no getting away from that, but that's a plus,
rather than a minus for someone with big thumbs who has a tendency
to lose small handsets. Like me. Those that couldn't find the mp3
player, it's in Multimedia / Games & Applications. But you'll need
to get a memory card for the mp3 player to be of any use, because
the 975 doesn't have a great deal of memory by itself. It seems
a shame that the "Welcome to 3" video that comes pre-loaded to the
handset can't be deleted to free up some more space. As it is it
takes about half of the handset's memory, not leaving much space
for your own photos, videos or downloads. Another nice touch is
that you can receive email on your phone for free, although sending
email replies from your phone will cost you. Battery life isn't
as bad as some people have said here. Bottom line is that when you're
playing games, browsing the internet or making photos or videos,
the display is constantly on and lit. That really drains the battery.
If you use the phone mainly for voice & SMS, with occasional web
access, you shouldn't encounter any great issues with battery life.
The higher quality external camera has the added bonus of having
a light source for poor lighting conditions. This light is very
bright & comes in handy as a torch in emergencies. Of course this
is another way to drain your baterry more quickly than you'd probably
like. But I've had this phone for just over a month & it has lost
the ability to recharge. When I connect the charger the display
reads "Unable To Charge" although the phone will happily operate
while connected to the charger (using the mains supply). So it's
about to go back the the shop, and I'll be interested to learn whether
it's the phone or the charger that's faulty. If it's the phone that
needs to be replaced I wonder how I'll get on trying to get all
my games downloaded onto the new handset without having to pay for
them again... Rating:

Very very poor battery. You will have to carry a dynamo with you
at all times. I charge it after every phone call. Never thought
Motorola battery could be so dreadful. Two weeks into use, the Joystick
developed cracks and soon broke into pieces. Quite soon one day,
the phone went dead. The battery had given away. I called up my
network for help. They examined the phone and sent it back to me
saying neither of the problems can be covered under product guarantee.
I am completely baffled by their response. I checked with my phone
insurance. They too said this wasn't covered under insurance. With
no other solution in sight, I checked with a local repair shop,
and they quoted 40 pounds for getting it working. I doubt if the
phone itself is worth 40 pounds. I decided to give my problem a
decent burial - dumping the phone into the closet, and wait till
May 2006, when my 12 month contract expires. As if trouble with
one phone weren't enough, I had got two of the same model - result
of my foolish pursuit for cheap mobile deals. The second one too
let out a few signals. It went dead once or twice. Swinging, shaking
and tapping, I brought it back to life. I am reconciled to the fact
that this too is going to die soon. No tears would be shed. A few
valuable lessons this has given me: 1) Not to go after cheap deals
like buy one take one free. There would be a very good reason if
anyone gives such free deals for mobile phones. 2) Not to go anywhere
near Motorola phones. Nokia or Sony Ericsson, though a few pounds
dearer, would be worth it. And not to forget, a few pounds of extra
muscles I have developed in my arms, lifting and holding the BRICK. Rating:

GOOD POINTS : It seems to get a stronger signal than my Moto A1000,
its speakerphone is excellent, the cameras are good, it has a lot

some of the keys EG the Menu key are cumbersome and counter-intuitive
WORST POINT, This phone is made of such cheap lousy quality plastic
that it is NOT FIT FOR ITS PURPOSE as a mobile telephone, I had
made 3 days when a crack appeared across the joystick, the following

useage !!! I notice it has been withdrawn from sale in all the UK

Ericsson K700i but the Motorola has heaps more features! Only con
is the battery life sucks but still for the price, it's one of the
best in it's range. P.S pplz Nokia Sucks!Dismal cameras, hideously

This phone does not really merit 1 star, so unsatisfactory is it.
How did Motorola get it so wrong? I've never had a 'Moto' before
- are they all as bad as this? I think basically, the problem is
that it is totally uninspired and devoid of any thought or interest
on the part of the designers. Cons: poor call quality, low battery
life, poor build quality (plastic squeaks when you move it in your
hand), badly lit keypad so you can't quite see the alphabet on all
keys other than 5 and 8, no connectivity other than extra-cost wiry
USB, brainless menu structure with no keypad selection, separate
contact record for each number belonging to one individual, generally
jazzy look and feel with no underlying substance, two cameras (one
is superfluous already), weighs a ton. Pros: can be used as an effective
throwing weapon in self-defence. Summary: get an LG U8138 and send
it to Motorola marked suggestions for improvement. Rating:

This phone is fantastic!! Its so cheap and has so many features!
MP3 Player, MPEG4 & 3GP playback, 3G Broadband, 2 Cameras!!! With
a 256mb memory card you can put whole movies and music albums on
your phone to watch on the go! The screen is nice and big and the
quality of the videos are nice and sharp, the sound is also another
strong point for this phone, the loudspeaker is great! The only
downside is that its on the 3 network, but I managed to unlock mine
and put in a Vodafone sim. The battery life could be better, if
your a heavy user you might get a day out of it.... but charge it

It was time to upgrade on my pay monthly Orange contract, so I was
looking for a phone with 3G so I could find out what all the fuss
was about. I checked the features of a few phones on the Orange
site and finally went for the C975. It looked good on the web site,
but I was a bit disappointed when it was sent to me. Upgrading from
the Motorola V500 did not seem like much of a leap as I still had
GPRS, a camera (the one on the V500 is just as good as this one),
predictive texting, Bluetooth and usb connectivity. The only other
things I was getting with the C975 was the video part, ie. video
calling and recording, and the MP3 player feature. I now realise
that these are not very important features on a phone, but infact
are added distractions. I also found the reception to be worse.
I had to continually move around and listen to people say "You're
breaking up, I can't hear you very well". This was in an area where
I had so called full coverage as the signal strength bar was ful
ly loaded, the V500 coped very well, infact much better in exactly
the same places. I had a choice to make and just got it made in
time. Orange gave me 7 days to change my mind and I called them
to arrange a return. I have used the V500 for over a week again
since I sent back the C975 and I can appreciate a phone with good
reception again. Overall the C975 is quite bulky and awkward to
navigate. the joystick feature is sore on the finger! Although it
is feature packed, it lacked a few vital specifications for my taste.
I am now on the lookout for a phone with good reception and not
necessarily any fancy modern technologies. I am considering the
Moto V3 Razr or the Samsung D500. Veering toward the Samsung actually. Rating:

I was VERY surprised at the screen quality!!! Camera was great too.
Mp3 player could have done with an equalizer to change the sound
quality but again great 4 the price. Ive now changed to the nokia
6230. The mp3 player is excellent as is the radio. Why not just
buy an mp3 i hear u ask! Well i guess your right but i dont want
to basically. i chose the nokia 6230 over the samsung D500! The
d500 was a let down for me. The best phones out there are the sharp
fones by vodaphone but vodaphone wont give me a contract. Neither
will t-mobile, o2, virgin or even 3!!! But somehow orange think
ive a good credit rating! Well, their loss when i dont pay my bills

"HellllloMoto" O god it's on the brain and yes it's one
of the MP3 ringtones on the phone as well lol! I bought this phone
a couple of days ago, my dad got one on contract and after seeing
the quality of the phone I rushed out and bought one my self, This
is the first Motorola phone I've have, and not to put to finer point
to it, this phone really is amazing, I've always had Nokias. my
current phone being the nokia 3650 phone, yea ok it was a good phone,
but the Moto C975 puts it well and truly in the shade in terms of
sound, graphics etc, at first glance of the phones menu and setup
etc I thought it was running on a windows xp type system, it looks
very similar and indeed very easy to use, I love all the animated
icons. This is the first phone I've had with MP3 ring tones, and
I have to admit, I'm impressed, the phone is also very loud when
set to the highest setting, there is a speaker located on the back
of the phone from which every sound of the phone plays though, the
sound is clear and crisp, with none of that cheap tiny sound. On
a whole the Moto C975 is excellent value for money and built extremely
well. It has a weighty feeling of quality to it and it comes with
loads of accessories, for people reading the bad reviews of this
phone you don't want to believe them who say its rubbish, because
it's not, as for battery life, I've had no problems up till now,
the max I've got out of this phone is just over a week and a half,
turn your screen saver off and put on the battery save feature on,
any phone will run down quick if you use it a lot, my nokia 3650
was just the same. Rating:

I already have an A1000 and my girlfriend has an E1000 I purchased
this phone a couple of days ago only because the line rental is
hardly anything for the whole year and i needed a smaller second
phone. What can I say........ I'm amazed by this phone I was expecting
a cheap little phone with poor functions but this is not the case.
It looks allot better in the flesh & fits nicely in the hand. After
using the A1000 for such a long time the C975 feels super fast &
easy to use. The camera takes sharp photos during the day and takes
much much better pictures than the A1000 with low/no light conditions
in-fact my A1000 couldn't take any decent pictures if the light
conditions was not perfect. But with full daylight the A1000 would
take great photos. I know I have only had it for 2 days now so I
don't know what the battery life is like. I can't believe this I'm
acutely considering selling my A1000 for the E1000 as I can't take
its annoying habits anymore. Don't get me wrong I used to think
the A1000 was amazing you can play some really cool games and install
some good stuff on it too but the touch screen is slow and annoying
it's big & not easy to make a call in a rush after all it is supposed
to be a phone. As you can tell I'm very happy with this phone great
value for money. Cheers. Rating:
