LG
U8150 Review
Phone
rating:
The
LG U8150 is exclusive to the Orange network. As well as video calling
and video messaging, it can access news, information and entertainment
services on Orange's 3G portal.
The
U8150 is similar in most respects to the LG
U8130, available on the 3 network. The main difference is that
the 8150 has a colour external display instead of a black and white
one, and the internal display has also been upgraded from 65k to
262k colours. This combination gives the U8150 one of the best set
of displays on any 3G phone. The camera is standard at VGA resolution
(640 x 480 pixels), and rotates conveniently so it can be used either
for video calling or for taking pictures. There's an MP3 player,
voice recorder and speakerphone, plus the usual Java games,
polyphonic ringtones and screensavers that can be downloaded.
The
memory has been upgraded from 32 Mbytes to 64 Mbytes, but this will
still be filled up very quickly if you start to use the video or
MP3 features of the phone. A memory card would have been nice, as
would Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
The
8150 seems to suffer from more problems than other LG phones. In
particular, reception and battery life are worse than average, audio
quality can be poor, and the software that connects the phone to
a PC is very unreliable. We wouldn't recommend this one!
Features
of the LG U8150 include:
- 3G video calling & video messaging
- External colour screen: STN 65,000 colours
- Main screen: TFT 262,000 colours, 220 x 176
pixels
- Swivel camera for video messaging or video calls
(VGA resolution; 640 x 480 pixels)
- MP3 player
- Voice recorder
- Built-in speakerphone
- SMS, picture messaging, email
- Predictive text input
- Downloadable ringtones and screen savers
- Downloadable Java games
- Speed dialling
- Connectivity: USB, infrared
- Memory: 64 Mbytes
- Personal organiser functions: date, clock, alarm,
diary, calculator, currency converter
- Vibration alert
- WAP, GPRS, HTML browser
- Dual band
- Weight: 126g
- Talktime: 3.5 hours
- Battery standby: 8 days

A good phone with good clear screen (big) moving pictures on screen
saver always impresses...BUT all those nice pics and videos are
untouchable as we can't use the software to download them! Also
mine suffers from 'crackling' and I have to hold the mic to be heard
clearly. My wife's has been problematic too, with the annoying trait
of being temperamental when charging. If anyone knows how to down
load from these email me...please...- polaristutoring@tiscali.co.uk

Liked the feel of the LG8150 and a good large screen but the software
is worse than useless (who WAS the idiot responsible for the software???).
The signal is constantly falling off and won't connect again unless
you turn the phone off and on again. Will never buy anything LG
again in my life. The keys wore out very quickly. I now have a Nokia
and there is no comparison whatsoever.

NEVER BUY THIS PHONE. I have had this for about a year and i thought
it was good at the start but now it is causing more and more problems.
For a start i cant get it to connect to my computer, the battery
is absolutely rubbish, which is quite strange as it was good when
i first got it. It is big and heavy for a phone. It has a good enough
quality camera and video but and an quite good storage space 64mb.
The mp3 player is not that good. There is only one game on it -
bowling. it is an alright phone but i wouldn't recomend it.

Perhaps it's me but... I couldn't connect it to the computer with
the supplied software. The infrared doesn't work. If the phone is
set to 'answer on flip' you cannot reject calls unless you open
it and cut the caller off - that means they aren't diverted to the
mailbox. One good point is that it's so big I can always find it
easily at the bottom of my bag.

This phone appeared to be just what I wanted - great screen with
very clear text, really good large keypad - but that's about all
that's good about it. The reception is almost always poor, often
cutting out mid-call (even if I'm standing still!) and the battery
needs a full charge every day. SMS storage is poor given the size
of memory in the phone. I've had no problems with the PC software
which others seem to have had - but you can't back up SMS messages,
which is a major flaw. One star is all it deserves!

work. Pathetic battery life. So why did I get this bulky phone?????

How pleased i am to hear that i am not the only one having problems
with this phone. The first phone had to be replaced within 28 days
as the battery life was so poor...it never has improved despite
a replacement handset: i guess i have just learned to live with
it !! The reception on making calls has always been poor... The
person receiving my calls can frequently not hear me at all or has
difficulties hearing over the interference... I was in the process
of returning the phone to the manufacturer (with little support
from Orange) but on reading other reviews i am now reluctant to
do so as the problem seems in built!!! Roll on April when my handset
is due to be upgraded!!I doubt if LG will be my 1st choice !!!

When I first got this phone I had no problems with it but then it
was stolen and the replacement was faulty. There was ALWAYS interference
when making or receiving phone calls no matter where I was! It would
cut out and became very frustrating to use! Had it replaced and
this one seems to be better although from time to time the ringtones
suddenly revert back to the factory settings which can be confusing!
I am looking forward to upgrading to a phone that is reliable, obviously
some of these phones are fine. But on the other hand it sounds like
there are a lot out there that have SERIOUS manufacturing faults!!!
All depends on your luck as to what you think of the phone, I will
certainly never get an LG again.

are dull and the camera is very poor considering most new phone
are now megapixels. The main problem with this was I was loosing
my reception, but the bar was still displaying a clear 4 bar signal.
I was told the way to get around this was to keep rebooting the
phone, not something I would be insterested in doing while waiting
