The
LG U400, nicknamed the Neo, is a 3G music phone available exclusively
on the 3 network. The U400 has an unusual and distinctive slide
design. Despite a smart black and silver finish, and cool blue detailing,
it's an ugly beast, mainly because of the large jog wheel located
off-centre, with call buttons to the side. The jog wheel is very
useful, however, enabling control of the music functions when the
phone is closed. With a chunky feel and uncompromising looks, this
is a phone with a very masculine style.
Music
is the big theme of the U400. The phone comes with a stereo music
player (and video player) with high audio quality. The music player
can handle most formats of music, including MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+.
The jog wheel lets you access music very easily, much like an iPod.
Stereo headphones are supplied in the sales package, and the phone
offers support for Bluetooth stereo headphones. Music can be stored
on the phone, using the generous 68 Mbytes of internal memory plus
the MicroSD memory card slot for extra storage (memory card not
supplied), or can be streamed from 3.
The
U400 also has a special DJ feature. Move the jog wheel to start
scratching or press a number on the keypad to play a cool sample!
Use the Melody Composer to make your own music. The Melody Composer
lets you choose from 10 different instruments, 2 modes, 31 styles
and 5 tempos to make your own music tracks. Play them to your mates
or use them as ringtones!
The
U400 has two cameras - a VGA camera (0.3 megapixels) for making
video calls, and a 2 megapixel camera (with flash) for taking still
shots. You can also record video clips. The camera quality is not
that great, proving the point that megapixels alone are no measure
of camera quality.
Music
is the big "thing" for the U400 and it delivers well. Combining
the music-orientated design of the U400 with 3's music download
features makes for a great overall music experience. The Neo ticks
all the boxes in this department. It also covers the bases in other
areas, making it a well-rounded phone. Battery life could be better,
but is adequate. The design is unusual and won't be to everyone's
taste, but if you're a music lover looking for something that stands
out from the crowd, this could be your phone.

I love this phone...I've never really got excited about a new phone
but this is good. I like the look of it and don't think the wheel
is ugly, i think its cool! And the music features are good, i got
a free memory card included with mine...and use it as my MP3 player...you
can use it to listen without head phones too as the speakers and
quite good. Alround its a sexy phone, but good features..

From my own point of view, LG u400 is best suit to my likings, Now
is cheaper, big sound as in real nice db level, capable stereo bluetooth,
and the main point why i like lg u400 is i dont need to charge it
everyday base on my usual mp3 listening. Jog wheel is a Plus on
browsing altho the mobile-web fonts are too small to read it clearly,
2.0 Mpixel is good enough for a mobile phone, Overall mobile Phone,
Sounds and battery leads me to have this LG u400, hurray for LG

Got the neo this morning and the camera is rubbish! I mean Rubbish!!
Went from a nokia n70 and wish id stopped with that. To say the
music player is its strong point, its also poor. Sending it back
and getting a K800i. Dont waste your time with the neo.

I couldnt get reception on this handset in either of the two areas
i live, but put my sim in other handsets and reception was fine.
I had 3 replacements of the same model sent to me before i was told
this handset finds getting reception hard. Apart from that the music
functions etc are fine, but whats the point if you cant make calls?
Oh and 3 have the worst customer service ever..

i have this phone,locked to 3 australia and i have searched google
and can not find an unlocking code. the phone is great!! if you
like 3. but i can only use 3g and 3 network in broadband zone aka
capital cities(sydney) i like the phone but im LOCKED to 3. i recommend
it if you like 3 network and your in the broadband zone. 0/10 netwok
8/10 phone :)

This phone software is driving me mad. I wanted this phone for music
and i cant get the thing to work with the software. Tried 3 computers!

BEWARE: THIS PHONES BATTERY LIFE !!! Lg, which are renouned for
truely pants batteries, have excelled themselves yet again. The
phone itself is great it does all and more that i want of it, but
sadly is soooooooooooooo let down by the god awful battery. They
seem to have either 1 or 2 month full battery life before needing
charging every text message, or they die entirely within the first
4 months. I for one will never , ever buy an LG phone again. If
the battery was decent so would my review of the phone be.

I have had this phone for over a week now,it looks complictaed ,
but it is amazingly simple to use, and is packed with features,
excellent value for money as compared to other phones on the market,,
the only downside is that it feels a little fragile,, other than
this an excellent phone!!!!.

The lg u400 neo is one of the best phones on the market at this
point in time, it's controls are so easy to get to grips with and
the storage on the phone alone is enough to store many of your favourite
songs, it has also been described to me as a digital camera with
a phone attached with 2.0 mega pixels its more than you'll need
on a mobile phone even the volume when there is no headset attached
is pretty damn good all in all the lg would definatle give the sony
ericsson walkman phone a run for it's money.

dis fone is gr8. It gd for playin ur fav tracks usin teh built in
speakers and usin headfones. just one fault the screen cracks easly

Going from a 6280 to an LG was for me a big step in choice. Having
been a Nokia fan boy for such a long time I though Nokia was the
only mobile for me until I tried the LG U400! Firstly the MP3 player
(which is probably the main reason for purchase) is quite simply
outstanding, granted it take some time to get used to but this feature
is its strong card! The job wheel is another thing that will take
some time to get used to but you can use the jog wheel to operate
up down left and right much like a standard non jog wheel phone.
T9 texting is much like a Nokia, menu's are good and features are
A1! The camera is markably better than my N6280 and upto now the
only thing I don't like about this handset is the polished black
look, no matter how careful you are in minutes you'll have finger
prints all over it. Even the "3" network UK has impressed me, more
3G coverage that o2 which in my book is a PLUS. And £15 for 600
text and 75 anytime mins AND a free LG U400 is a fantastic deal
. Id suggest this phone to anyone bored with Nokia, its a brilliant
feature packed handset without doubt!

This phone rocks my world both in music and style. It turns heads
in town (believe me). Works great for teenagers like me. LG & 3
are belt & trousers so you will get a great phone with a great network.
One of the easiest phones to use, I must say. Go for it! I know

This phone is ace! the music feature pleases everyone... and the
simplicity of use is a big plus! also, it plays WMA which is a BIIIG
BONUS!!! i've managed to convert 4 members of my family to the joy
of LG U400, and they all love it too!! Well Done LG... And Well
Done 3 for bein spot on with technological updates... as usual!!!

i absolutely love this phone its been thaught out soo well and i
love how its designed like an ipod to navigate through my music
.. but with it being on pay ass you go with 3 .. its a real money
eater too i really wanna get it unlocked and i beleive its one of
the hardest to do that ... so apart from it being on 3 its a brilliant
phone to have :)

This phone is amazin the mp3's sound good it holds alot of stuff
and it looks nice, i mean who really cares if it doesnt have an
fm radio big deal and who uses infrared it's all bluetooth now so
ppl can stop slaggin it of cuz of that also the jog wheel is really
easy 2 use if you cant use it you must have a problem plus the camera
is pretty good and im writing this bit 2 Anne from Malaysia if you
change the picture size the camera does have a zoom and the video
has an 8x zoom so unlucky m8!!!

I just bought this phone three days ago. Apart from the music-tech,
it's rubbish. The camera, although it's of high quality, there's
no zoom. And the irony of this phone being a super-multimedia 3G
is that it hasn't got built-in FM and infrared. Also, there is no
way I could transfer songs from my desktop to the handphone via
the USB. The software does not even come close to being user-friendly.
Is there anyway I could transfer songs from my desktop to my handphone
internal memory? I mean, of course I know I could transfer songs
the easier way into the external memory, but what abt its internal
memory? Please help. Thanks.

what a smart wee phone , not nearly as ugly as i expected . My last
5 phones were all nokia so it was a struggle picking something different
. I've only had the u400 a few days but have already got the hang
of most of the main functions . Very easy to use , sounds good ,
looks good , camera seems ok , so i would recommend it to anyone

Another class 3g phone from LG. This phones oozes quality and in
my view the designers have really paid attention to the phone’s
detail. Before deciding on LG U400 I looked hard at the LG U830
where in my view the overall specification of the 400 outshone the
830 by a mile giving both a better battery life and the incorporation
of a micro SD card (I’ve installed a 1gb card which provides
ample storage). The navigation system takes a little time to learn
but once mastered is better than that employed on previous LG and
other phones I’ve had and is also visually different to all
other phones (which suits me fine). Small points worth noting; there
are a few small differences to the phone’s operation that
differs to that stated in the user manual due to 3’s own software
notably trying to make a video call from the contacts list where
the right soft key should take you direct to the video call (it
does not as it’s dedicated to the symbol function)? Though
once one knows that one needs to make the call through the options
menu its no great problem. All in all an excellent phone –
music player – video camera – still camera all in a
package that is relatively small (any smaller would be too small
for a normal man’s as the keypad is an ideal size). Having
read in detail the reviews here I can only conclude that the negative
ones are from those that either could not or did not master the
jog wheel navigation which is (for me at least) one of the phones
strengths and reason for purchase. 99%

Hey! This hone is a great phoneand i would recemend the phone to
you if you are looking for a new mobilephone. Its sleek design and
wiked feel to it, it is one of the best phone of the 21st century!

The LG U40 is for those that want to stand away from the crowds
as its looks are truly unique. Having been on the ‘3’
3g network here in the UK and having had two Moto’s and the
LG880 I am extremely pleased with the 400, the build quality of
mine (received in January 07) is truly excellent having a serious
quality feel to it. Battery life could always be better but hey
just consider the technology this little phone packs into its case
and the excellent brightness of the screen (compared to previous
Moto’s battery life is fantastic). The only downside I have
with the phone, is with it being of the slider design not being
able to use it in a case (all previous phones have been used in
a case which really does protect the phone from every day knocks
– I have dropped all phones at some point with the LG880 in
particular always working afterwards). The beauty of the 3g LG phones,
from my perspective is their ease of use and I recommend them to
anyone. And before anyone says it – I do not work for LG or
any other phone company.

LOVE IT! It took about an hour to fall in love completely, but this
is the best phone I've ever had, it feels wonderful to hold and
once you get used to the controls you'll never want to go back to
an ordinary phone again. I've been using it all day and the battery

had this phone for nearly 6 months ad havent had on single problem
with it...its abolutly FANTASTIC! stylish and easy to use. i got
the hang of it straight away, wouldnt swap this phone for anything
right now ..neo is a must have and people who are writing saying
its rubbish are chatting bull ok the only not so good thing about
it is th camra i mean it still takes god pictures but because of
the phones overall quality you`d expect way bette ... but overall
i think its outstanding ! xox

I'v Had it for about 8hours and this phone is rubbish, The camera
is rubbish and as for the "DJ-ing" Feature what went wrong there.
total piece of worthless junk another rubbish phone from LG why
didn't I learn the first time I got an LG. Don't get it!!! The people
on here sayin it's good must all be representing LG or they just
want others to waste money like we did im getting a d900.

Brilliant phone, i've had mine for 2 months now, not had one single
problem with it. Upgraded to a 1GB memory stick, and its fab. I

BAD, THE CAMERA IS A LET DOWN IF U DONT HAVE ENOUGH LIGHT EVEN WITH

dont be drawen to the good looks of this phone i was. i couldnt
wait to get this phone , but when i did i was very dissapointed
camera quailty for 2 mega pixel is poor ! sound quality is also
a let down !its also a hard phone to navigate buttons seem to be
all over the place ! i had a SE k750i befor and swapped my lg for
a w850i ! trust me if u want a good quality camera and sound for
mp3 etc get any sony !

Phone is great, super looking and with great memory, some of the
reviews below are hilarious, firstly 3 don't do 7 day trials! so
how could you have 'reviewed' it, and secondly there are only a
few phones out with more then its 295 hrs stanby time, oh and 3
has 99% coverage now as it uses o2's masts, i pay £15 a month for
300 mins and 1000 txts

Its an outstanding phone, has pretty much everything you need. It's
got enough memory to last a lifetime, great screen, and an easy-to-use
interface. I recommend it to anyone who is good with phones. Please

Great fone, fantstic sound and picture quality, sturdy build, shame

gd fone i like the look of it an the size is ok but wen igot it,it
kept turning its selfe off and it does not charge properly so i

This phone is so AWSOME, with its DJ scratch button, its amazing
2GB memory and with its 2MP camera this phone has a cutting edge
oppose to other phones.

I got the phone for a 7 day trial from 3 and I was shocked at how
poor it was. The wheel is far too loose, the software *seriously*
screwed up my PC and the manual... well we'll just say it was written
for a 5 year old. Phone sent back now - will probably never chance
an LG again.

This phone is kl but its on 3 so you get no areal recivement. So
your all ways on low areal. RUBBISH, it would be ok if it was not
on 3!

This phone aint no sony ericsson or nokia but it is STILL Very good.
looks stuning and features are great. good points are : wireless
head phones are nice and loud, plus you can use ur own normal ones.
internet on the phone is good- its fast. the scroll wheel is real
good for navigation. camera Is desenct althogh it aint as good as
SE phones. up to 2GB of memory on micro SD sticks if you have it..
does evry thing a normal phone does plus alot more.. Bad points:
it removes all the grease and dirt off your hands and dirties it
self.. the camera does not have zoom or autofocus so basicly it
like a 2 mega pixel version of SE's K700..... thats it really
