In a nutshell: The LG Secret is a stunningly beautiful superslim
phone, with carbon fibre and tempered glass giving it an aura of
quality, and the touchscreen controls and "Neon Touch"
visuals making it cool to use. It's a top-end phone with a 5 megapixel
camera, video camera with slow motion effects, 3G video calling,
a music player plus an FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0 and support for memory
cards up to 4 GB. The only negatives are below average battery life
and the fact that some users are reporting poor reception. It also
lacks features like GPS, making it appear rather dated now.
Review:
June 2008. Updated June 2009.
The
LG Secret KF750 is the third in LG's Black Label series - the first
two being the Chocolate and
the Shine. Like its predecessors,
the Secret is a visually stunning phone. The Secret is touchscreen
controlled, and uses "Neon Touch". Neon Touch provides
a visual response to touch, so you know when you've activated a
button. Watch blue lights flicker as you touch the screen - it's
great fun for at least the first week of ownership! Not everyone
will take to the touchscreen controls, but these kinds of phones
have been around for long enough now that many people will have
some previous experience of touchscreens.
It's
a slide phone, and its claim to fame is that it's the slimmest 5
megapixel camera phone available. In fact at just 11.8mm, it's one
of the slimmest slide phones around. Slim phones sometimes have
a tendency towards screen damage, but the Secret is constructed
from carbon fibre and tempered glass, so ought to be strong enough
to survive reasonable amounts of abuse. Despite its slimness, its
quite heavy, at 116g, but this helps to give a quality feel.
The
camera is excellent, with a specification very similar to that of
the excellent Viewty. It uses
a 5 megapixel sensor with autofocus, and a macro mode is available
for close-ups. One cool feature is "morphing", which lets
you edit faces - this is similar to Sony Ericsson's very popular
face warp feature. The video camera is good too, recording in Divx
format at up to VGA resolution. Like the video camera in the Viewty,
you can record at up to 120 frames per second, then play back at
a slower rate, for a slow motion effect. The camera also supports
video calls, as the Secret is a 3G phone. Another feature worth
mentioning out is that the video is Divx compatible, making it easy
to download movies and watch them on the phone - and with a good-sized
2.4 inch screen, this isn't as silly as it might sound.
The
Secret is well equipped for music, with a music player that supports
most popular file formats, as well as an FM radio. With 100 Mbytes
of internal memory, you can store up to around 25 songs, but this
capacity can easily be expanded by adding a microSD memory card,
up to 4 Gbytes (1,000 songs.) Audio quality is high, and the phone
can also play MIDI tracks with up to 72 channels.
We've
noted that the phone is 3G enabled. It's actually HSDPA-enabled,
with download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps available. In addition to
3G support, it's a quadband phone, supporting GSM 900/1800/1900/2100.
The phone comes with a Google package too, making it a reasonably
good platform for the mobile internet.
So
far so good, but there are a couple of issues that take the edge
off this beauty. The first is battery life. Surprise, surprise ...
it's a superslim phone and battery life is below average ... have
we said this kind of thing before? It's always a trade-off: if you're
a heavy user, you'd be better off avoiding superslim phones generally.
The other thing is that quite a lot of our users are reporting problems
with signal strength. Other minor issues are that the screen is
quite hard to read outdoors, and that ringtones can be a little
quite. Apart from these issues, the Secret is a lovely phone, and
packs in plenty of features too, although it can't compete with
the latest phones in this top-end price bracket.
Features
of the LG Secret KF750 include:
5 megapixel camera with autofocus, macro, 16x
digital zoom and flash
Video camera with 120 fps video recording for
slow motion playback
3G video calling
Display: TFT, 262,000 colours, 240 x 320 pixels

Music player (supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC++
and WMA file formats)

Messaging: SMS, EMS, MMS, Email

Memory: 100 Mbytes plus microSD memory card

package

(in my case normal) and press the option button - select edit. Scroll
down to key tone, change to no sound, scroll further to confirmation
tone and turn off if needed (this tone is the one that keeps playing
a tune when u save settings etc).... Hope this helps peeps, it is

Well, where do I start?! I am on my THIRD replacement phone from
Orange. I am having major problems with the MP3 player and Internet
- it basically shuts the phone down when I am surfing the internet
or listening to my music!!! I find the internet very slow... and
the screen is just too small to view the pages properly. Reception
is really bad on this phone, although it's not Orange's fault as
they are fine on my old Nokia 7373! It's the LG Secret... just not
very good with reception. It is a beautiful-looking phone, it's
just a shame the features are not so good; - cannot make it ring
for more than 12 seconds, by which time the person has hung up...
- internet switches the phone off! - has a life of it's own with
the touchkeys when you are talking and your cheek touches them...
they put the person on hold and you end up talking to yourself until
you realise it's on hold!!! - camera is slow to take pics - hard
to transfer pics from phone memory to external mini SD card if you
have already stored them on internal memory. - ring and vibe could
be louder/stronger, as I never seem to hear it in my bag while out
and about - never had this prob with other phones. - battery life
is really not good. It's not a bad phone in general... it just needs
tweeking!!! Rating:

The phone is amazing. I dont know where all these comments about
bad signal and bad battery are coming from? The signal on my phone
is a lot stronger than everyone else in my house (3 other people)
and a lot better than my old phone. I read through all of these
reviews before i upgraded to this phone, i was worrying a bit about
it, but now that ive got it im so glad that i didnt chicken out.
It's really great. I'm enjoying all the features on it a lot. Takes
great pictures and im still discovering new things you can do on
the phone. you should definitely buy this phone! look on youtube
videos if you are unsure about it, it explains all the features
and things really well. also im not quite sure why some people are
complaining about not being able to turn the kypad tones off? just
go into profiles and edit... simple! Rating:

This is the worst phone Ive ever had in terms of usability and bugs.
1. Camera seems very poor at adapting to lighting settings or movement.
Ive been to 2 weddings recently, and most of my pictures are useless
due to the camera applying either too much or too little brightness
to the picture. I tried taking with different light sources and
moving the central point, but it seemed to go from one extreme to
the other. 2. Text messaging seems to get stuck on 'messaging initializing'
when attempting to write a new message. I can leave the phone for
days on that screen and nothing initializes. Only thing that seems
to work is turning it off and on, then waiting 5 minutes. 3. Connectivity
to PC worked initially, now it says it's connected but none of the
functions work. It 'times out' after a few minutes saying the phone
isn't connected, then takes you to the menu which says the phone
is connected fine. I'm using Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate edition
on an Intel Dual core. Maybe it doesn't like the OS, but it's not
exactly an uncommon configuration. 4. Menu system does not respond
in a timely manner. Leaves you wondering whether anything has actually
happened or you should press the button again. Infuriating when
you've just been disconnected due to poor signal strength. 5. Signal
strength is not good. Had a Sony Ericsson W850i before (which performed
worse than many colleagues phones in terms of signal strength) and
it's much worse than that. 6. Keypad is difficult to use if you
have reasonable sized hands. I keep brushing the 'touch keys' by
accident (the touch screen buttons around the main normal button).
Pretty irritating. 7. Battery life is poor. Yeah it's a slimline,
but that's no excuse for it going from 3 bars to 0 in a matter of
a few minutes. I've had from 60 to 6 hours use out of a charge depending
on number of calls made. Utterly unpredictable and totally inconvenient
if you're traveling for a few days. 8. Interface is not intuitive.
This is probably a subjective issue depending on your previous phones.
It seems to work in a different way to other manufacturers, and
after 6 weeks of having the phone, I still don't like it. Overall
it's a shiny toy. Feature set is lovely, but the reality is that
it is not reliable or predictable, and doesn't do all the things
you expect it to. Rating:

to goes from being fully charged to low battery when you've hardly

I would say the phone is pretty cool! Havent had big problems with
connection.. although does lose it in the house even next to window..
but if u stick it right next to the window (say behind the desk
closer to the glasses, it quickly finds all the bars. Battery aint
great as people said but does last around 2 days give or take few
hours depending on use.. yet to see if its gonna survive whole day
of phoning mates when i go back to uni in october. Now problems
i got, internet (vodafone live) aint working but google (which uses
internet) does.. and so does ebay... weird. And those 3 buttons
under the touch buttons (eg answer call button, hang up button and
C button.. dont have the blue light it or any light at all.. SO
THE QUESTION IS: does it ment to have light in those buttons????
can someone answer that as i wanna visit the shop and ask em, (gotta
sort out internet anyway) dont wanna look like an idiot and find
out buttons only were lighten up in advertising future for selling
purposes... apart from that i think phone is amazing!! and perhaps
aint the smart phone, and feels incomplete.. like small touch feature
and just couple of wii mini like games (although it aint ment to
be wii.. neither its a full touch phone). But looks just make up
for it... one of the best looking phones i ever seen... and i am
a 20yr old so i seen and been through alot :) p.s: watch out for
the carbon fibre at thee back being easily scratched.. if u wanna
preserve the phone from scratches and overall dirt suggest keep
in some sort of holder.. i just use lil black bag i got from my
sunglasses... although i wanna buy that soft "skin"folder that armani
touch phone has.. The phone aint as durable as they want u to believe!!
Would hate to drop it.. especially as its not that light.. but again
looks are amazing! One more thing.. read what Gazmo said about poor
reception and bit of paper below.. weirdly it works.. stuck little
bit of paper on top of the pin and closed so it didnt move.. and
now at least i got 1-2 bars in places where it used to search for
signal... sometimes even jumps to full strength?? Rating:

Received Phone some 2 wks ago, so had plenty of time to test. Here
are my thoughts. This is my second Phone as the 1st let me down
with only 1 part of its applications. That was trying to asign a
photo to a contact detail, it kept on turning itself off. Now to
the Good bits:- 1. Battery Life is one of the best i have had. 1
charge with normal use has lasted my 4 days. dont know where the
other comments stem from. 2. Video one of the best out there. Had
W900i last time so wanted something along the quality of that. This
superseeds even that. 3. Camera - Too much Lag of shutter on moving
items. So not good. On still items a good photo from the 5mp is
taken. Loads of options too. 4. Ringtones - Normal MP3 quality,
could do with being slightly louder, as in above normal noise areas
i have had a couple of missed calls. 5. Touch Screen is the bees
knees, especially the pre-loaded WII like games. A real difference.
6. Looks & Feel - Top Notch. Tuff,Durable & Def one of the best
looking phones i have ever had, will not date for yrs yet. Carbon
Fibre rear case, tempered Glass to minimise scratches. 7. Software
for PC - The easiest yet when it comes to Transfer of material etc
etc. 8. Signal - No Problems to date. EVen better than my w900i.
9. Applications - Already Touched on the games, the rest are pretty
standard these days across the boards of handsets. The I Touch Pad
functions are cool and with either Photos or music. Would def Rec.
this phone regardless of some comments. From my experience none
are justified apart from those i've stated. Rating:

Because the camera is 5 Megapixel, the picture sizes are big and

not download the pictures either. Its very easy to accidentally
go on the internet by touching the wrong part and getting charged

I have handled this phone but not used it so i will not attempt
to comment on its functionality rather just the quality of its construction.
As Design Engineer with many years experience this phone in my opinion
will not survive the physical abuse that many peoples phones get.
Why? Carbon fibre is a strong and flexible material great if the
Secret was a fishing rod but the case has a job to do not just look
pretty that of protecting the components within. The case flexes
far too easily putting all the stress on the display and the PCBs.
If you treat your phone with kid gloves then there probably will
not be an issue, knock it around intentionally or not and i cannot
see it lasting very long. Rating:

signal strength is variable (I'm on Vodafone), it's impossible to
see anything in bright sunlight (I've opted for the black on white
display to get more contrast) and the touchscreen is a magnet for
fingerprints (I've had to buy some screen protection film packs
from Duratec to fix the problem). If I hadn't got it free on an
upgrade I don't think I would have gone for this phone. Rating:

Recieved this phone a couple of weeks ago now and am on Vodafone.
All in all this phone is sturdy and well designed and generally
a good handset, had no issues with the battery life. The camera,
although 5 megapixel, is generally ok as the photos often come out
slightly blurred due to a time delay. When taking a pictue you will
press the shutter button and the photo will be taken a second or
two later- this often means you have moved the device ever so silghtly
and this causes blurring - so keep your hands as still as you can!!
Video function works fine and has some good options. I have had
no problems with reception apart from when you are in a low signal
area. For example if other phones are picking up minor signal -
like 1 bar- the Secret will struggle to find reception. I have found
turning the phone on and off in this situation seems to work. I
have had issues with the phone - the main being when attaching it
to my PC. The requirements are Windows service pack 2 and Media
player 11 - i have both of these and still i cannot manage to access
my phone book / video files using the LG software, and it clearly
states that you should be able to do this. Synchronizing my music
files works fine and down loading photos onto my pc also works fine.
I have found storing all my files onto an SD card makes accessing
all my phones files far easier - i would definitely suggest doing
this if you are having the same problems as me - as you can use
'My Computer' on your PC to look at the files instead of the LG
software package. The final problem i have had is downloading games
from Vodafone and then getting charged for them when it hasn't worked
(meaning numerous calls back and forwards!). I think this is more
a case of mobile companies not being fully aware of the new phones'
they are selling and their associated technology / software. Just
want to know if anyone else is having problems downloading games
on the vodafone network (or any other network). I try to download
a game and it says "initiating" then fails to do anything else...?
Just want to know to see if it is a specific phone fault or a software
problem. Mobile internet browsing is generally good with many options
to change the way the browser works (which i would suggest doing).
Phone is fairly quiet, but sound is crystal clear and i can't stand
loud phones blaring out their ringtones when it is totally un called
for (like on a train or in a lift for example!). All in all this
is a stylish phone that has a few bugs with the software, but no
more than any other brand new hand sets on the market. Rating:

I really like this phone as it's quite different from anything that's
out at the moment, especially the "wii" style games and smart tilt
detection so it automatically puts pictures in landscape etc. Everyone
is always impressed with that! I do have to say I am pretty disappointed
with the battery life, like others here. At the moment it has a
fault where I try and charge it but the red-eye light comes on!
Very odd. I have to take the battery off and on again to charge.
Plus the ridiculous grammer - I mean, what are they paying these
people for!! Like when you get a delivery report and it says "Report
has been arrived" what?! Anyway. Also I have problems with the PC
software, gave up in the end and got a bluetooth dongle for my pc.
I should just say it DOES have a loudspeaker, when you're on a call
just press the main button (ok) then again to turn it on. A lot
of the problems people have put on this page are not actually issues
e.g. loudspeaker, shortcuts, menu access, key unlocking, games (I
have bejewled on it) etc they are all fine. To sum up, a great phone
which looks and feels lovely with an amazing camera. I can put up
with the battery life :o) Rating:

Having had this phone a few weeks now, I've discovered all the major
strengths and weaknesses. The main strength is the look and feel
of the phone. It is true to say theres no other like it on the market.
It looks very sleek and professional, while at the same time is
easy to use. The touch screen buttons do take a little while to
get used to, but make life so much easier once you get the hang
of it. I will say that occasionally the sensitivity of the buttons
goes a bit haywire, but does nothing that cant be easily rectified
in a few seconds. The camera is 5 megapixels which is great, however,
having had a sony ericsson k800i 3.2mp previously I have to say
the quality is not always as good. Especially for scenes which are
not perfectly still. The flash leaves a lot to be desired. I have
also found the signal strength to be quite poor, where Ive never
had problems with other phones, the LG Secret tends to search more
often, causing me to miss phone calls. However, although this is
a common problem with the phone, having replaced the handset this
new one seems to work much better. The battery life is not fantastic,
requiring a charge at least every two days, but this is quite common
with the latest phones. On a better note, the handset is very easy
to use. There are a few shortcut buttons on the side for camera,
menu and home page which make using the phone on the go easier than
many others. The materials used in this phone are a great selling
point, especially if you have a long contract for the phone, as
scratches and dents are almost impossible to make. If you want a
phone that makes toast and brews tea, this probably isnt for you,
however, if you want a simple phone with some of the latest features,
and most importantly with the best style then you should get this
phone. Rating:

I got this phone a week ago today and it’s going back tomorrow.
It’s a great looking phone and I really wanted to like it,
but I found it frustrating to use. The biggest problem I had with
this phone is the signalreception; I would sometimes retrieve it
from my pocket only for it to say ‘emergency calls only’,
then a few seconds later the signal would come back. So if anyone
was to try and contact me whilst the phone was in my pocket I would
not get the call. Also my wife is on same network as me and I had
to use her phone on a couple of occasions as I could not get a signal
at all. The battery life is poor, but apparently slimmer phones
don't have very good battery life due to the size, but I am not
a heavy user and I got just under 2 days use out of it before recharging
the phone again. At first the games seem fun and clever, but then
the novelty wears off, and the maze game after 2 mins seemed pretty
pointless as it was dead simple and easy to play. Having said all
this, I found the camera and video very good, and I liked the idea
of toughened glass and the carbon fibre backing as I broke my Samsung
d900 in my pocket. The touch sensitive buttons are ok, I couldn’t
quite get used to them, and I have large fingers so I would sometimes
accidentally hit another button. As I said I really did want to
like this phone, but it had a fundamental flaw and that was the
signal, maybe it was just this particular phone and not all LG Secrets
have this problem!?!? Anyway I get my Sony Ericsson C902 tomorrow
as replacement, so I hope this will be a better phone! Rating:

the headphones. I was amused to find that there are games pre-installed
on the phone that use the "tilt" sensors. there are 6 games pre-installed
on my phone that all work simply by moving the phone around (very
wii) There are various methods of getting to your music ... some
better than others, but once you get to the main interface you can
sort your music in just about any way you want. Its got some quirks
that take a bit of getting used to and its often easy to press an
arrow key while your trying to press the centre button. when you
initialy start using the phone it is easy to think that the only
part of the phone that is touch screen is the lower section. there
is however a button on the right hand side that allows you to turn
on the touchscreen. this has limited applications but all seem to
work quite well. The bad bit is that i am having very little luck
in getting the lg software to work. So far Vista and XP have let
me down meaning i still dont have a contacts list and to add music/movies
to the phone i need to remove the card and add the file manualy.
if you try to use the phone without sliding down the keyboard you

does feel high quality and well built. I found the user interface
easy to use and well laid out (though why LG didnt include the option
to turn on the touch screen for ALL options I dont know). Neither
did I have any issues with battery life (unlike some here). With
normal use, I found I was getting a good couple of days or so. HOWEVER,
the BIG problem I've had is reception. Like others here my experience
is that the phone simply cant hold a signal, even in areas of fairly
good reception. This has meant ALOT of dropped calls, and as a result
I've had to grudgingly return the phone as its rendered it next
to useless. I think its a shame as this could have been a real winner
for LG. Why o why do phone cos continue to design fantastic phones
with loads of great features, but still seem to forget the most
important function of all, making calls! I'm giving it three stars

this phone is a mile better than the u900 , samsung copyed lg with
the u900 there is a phone called kf600 that you might have over
looked if you think the u900 is origanal, this phone isnt meant
to be a rubbish gimmick , its pure class and by far the thinist
5megapixel camera phone out there so zip it with negative reviews
because you clearly dont know what your talking about. Rating:

I thought this phone was amazing. i love the appearance and it is
really easy to use. My parter has got the KU990 (viewty) and he
said the phones are much alike, besides the veiwty is a touch screen.
The camera is said to be 5.0 mega pixels but it disappointed me
as the images are often blurred and there is no xeon flash. If the
camera does not mean a great deal for you then i would highly recommend
this phone. It's stylish and easy to use. Rating:

NIce on paper but after a while of playing with its just a poorer
imitation of a soul. Samsung got it right, im afraid lg didnt. The
toch screen isnt anywhere near as good as the soul the creftmanship
is almost instantly tackier. The camera is ok but thats as far as
it goes. Rating:

I thought I would never get another LG phone after the viewty (wow,
talk about buggy. talk about pure garbage) but I bit the bullet
and decided to try out the LG secret and thank God I got it for
free from my phone store what utter rubbish it was. LG, I'll never
buy anything from you again the customer service is even worse than
the phone Rating:
