LG Secret Review
Phone rating:
In a nutshell: The LG Secret is a stunningly beautiful superslim
phone, with carbon fibre and tempered glass giving it an aura of
quality, and the touchscreen controls and "Neon Touch"
visuals making it cool to use. It's a top-end phone with a 5 megapixel
camera, video camera with slow motion effects, 3G video calling,
a music player plus an FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0 and support for memory
cards up to 4 GB. The only negatives are below average battery life
and the fact that some users are reporting poor reception.

The
LG Secret KF750 is the third in LG's Black Label series - the first
two being the Chocolate and
the Shine. Like its predecessors,
the Secret is a visually stunning phone. The Secret is touchscreen
controlled, and uses "Neon Touch". Neon Touch provides
a visual response to touch, so you know when you've activated a
button. Watch blue lights flicker as you touch the screen - it's
great fun for at least the first week of ownership! Not everyone
will take to the touchscreen controls, but these kinds of phones
have been around for long enough now that many people will have
some previous experience of touchscreens.
It's
a slide phone, and its claim to fame is that it's the slimmest 5
megapixel camera phone available. In fact at just 11.8mm, it's one
of the slimmest slide phones around. Slim phones sometimes have
a tendency towards screen damage, but the Secret is constructed
from carbon fibre and tempered glass, so ought to be strong enough
to survive reasonable amounts of abuse. Despite its slimness, its
quite heavy, at 116g, but this helps to give a quality feel.
The
camera is excellent, with a specification very similar to that of
the excellent Viewty. It uses
a 5 megapixel sensor with autofocus, and a macro mode is available
for close-ups. One cool feature is "morphing", which lets
you edit faces - this is similar to Sony Ericsson's very popular
face warp feature. The video camera is good too, recording in Divx
format at up to VGA resolution. Like the video camera in the Viewty,
you can record at up to 120 frames per second, then play back at
a slower rate, for a slow motion effect. The camera also supports
video calls, as the Secret is a 3G phone. Another feature worth
mentioning out is that the video is Divx compatible, making it easy
to download movies and watch them on the phone - and with a good-sized
2.4 inch screen, this isn't as silly as it might sound.
The
Secret is well equipped for music, with a music player that supports
most popular file formats, as well as an FM radio. With 100 Mbytes
of internal memory, you can store up to around 25 songs, but this
capacity can easily be expanded by adding a microSD memory card,
up to 4 Gbytes (1,000 songs.) Audio quality is high, and the phone
can also play MIDI tracks with up to 72 channels.
We've
noted that the phone is 3G enabled. It's actually HSDPA-enabled,
with download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps available. In addition to
3G support, it's a quadband phone, supporting GSM 900/1800/1900/2100.
The phone comes with a Google package too, making it a reasonably
good platform for the mobile internet.
So
far so good, but there are a couple of issues that take the edge
off this beauty. The first is battery life. Surprise, surprise ...
it's a superslim phone and battery life is below average ... have
we said this kind of thing before? It's always a trade-off: if you're
a heavy user, you'd be better off avoiding superslim phones generally.
The other thing is that quite a lot of our users are reporting problems
with signal strength. We haven't established if this is due to any
particular network, so if you do have problems, please leave a review
below and say which network you're on. Other minor issues are that
the screen is quite hard to read outdoors, and that ringtones can
be a little quite. Apart from these issues, the Secret is a lovely
phone, and packs in plenty of features too. Overall we rate it 4
stars.

Love the phone though not sure if it has a fault or not as it does
not reset to the standby screen unless I press the end call button.
For example if I put am viewing my photos then put the phone down

Absolute bobbins this phone. DO NOT buy or even get on contract.
Got it as an upgrade from vodafone, always had Sony Ericssons before
but felt like a change, wish I hadnt bothered. Had it not even a
week and I've sent it back. Where do I begin? The so called impressive
blue neon navigation keys on the front are not impressive at all.
I'm not what you would call the strongest and most heavy handed
of people but after 3 days 2 of the neon keys decided to stop lighting
up when pressure was applied, add to this the ridiculous battery
life, we are talking 1 hour talk time max, I had to charge the phone
at LEAST once a day, the 1st 2 days I had the phone I had to nip
home for my charger even though the life bar on the phone was full!
I wasnt even using the phone as I was at work!!! The phone gives
you no warning whatsover that your battery is going to go, it just
packs up. Then theres the software, tried installing it on a Vista
system and it kept locking up, installing some aspects of the software
but missing essential drivers etc with no support online! What a
joke. LG have made a major boo boo with this phone, it should be
took off the shelves today, I cant believe people are paying upto
£300 for this phone on ebay. I'd gve this no stars if I could. PLEASE
AVOID AT ALL COSTS (ordered a w890i now, why fix somethings that
broke? Sony Ericsson rock)

Love the phone, it's slim, smart and easy to use. The touchscreen
facility is also very impressive. However, the battery life is poor,
signal strength is variable (I'm on Vodafone), it's impossible to
see anything in bright sunlight (I've opted for the black on white
display to get more contrast) and the touchscreen is a magnet for
fingerprints (I've had to buy some screen protection film packs
from Duratec to fix the problem). If I hadn't got it free on an
upgrade I don't think I would have gone for this phone.

Recieved this phone a couple of weeks ago now and am on Vodafone.
All in all this phone is sturdy and well designed and generally
a good handset, had no issues with the battery life. The camera,
although 5 megapixel, is generally ok as the photos often come out
slightly blurred due to a time delay. When taking a pictue you will
press the shutter button and the photo will be taken a second or
two later- this often means you have moved the device ever so silghtly
and this causes blurring - so keep your hands as still as you can!!
Video function works fine and has some good options. I have had
no problems with reception apart from when you are in a low signal
area. For example if other phones are picking up minor signal -
like 1 bar- the Secret will struggle to find reception. I have found
turning the phone on and off in this situation seems to work. I
have had issues with the phone - the main being when attaching it
to my PC. The requirements are Windows service pack 2 and Media
player 11 - i have both of these and still i cannot manage to access
my phone book / video files using the LG software, and it clearly
states that you should be able to do this. Synchronizing my music
files works fine and down loading photos onto my pc also works fine.
I have found storing all my files onto an SD card makes accessing
all my phones files far easier - i would definitely suggest doing
this if you are having the same problems as me - as you can use
'My Computer' on your PC to look at the files instead of the LG
software package. The final problem i have had is downloading games
from Vodafone and then getting charged for them when it hasn't worked
(meaning numerous calls back and forwards!). I think this is more
a case of mobile companies not being fully aware of the new phones'
they are selling and their associated technology / software. Mobile
internet browsing is generally good with many options to change
the way the browser works (which i would suggest doing). Phone is
fairly quiet, but sound is crystal clear and i can't stand loud
phones blaring out their ringtones when it is totally un called
for (like on a train or in a lift for example!). All in all this
is a stylish phone that has a few bugs with the software, but no
more than any other brand new hand sets on the market.

I really like this phone as it's quite different from anything that's
out at the moment, especially the "wii" style games and smart tilt
detection so it automatically puts pictures in landscape etc. Everyone
is always impressed with that! I do have to say I am pretty disappointed
with the battery life, like others here. At the moment it has a
fault where I try and charge it but the red-eye light comes on!
Very odd. I have to take the battery off and on again to charge.
Plus the ridiculous grammer - I mean, what are they paying these
people for!! Like when you get a delivery report and it says "Report
has been arrived" what?! Anyway. Also I have problems with the PC
software, gave up in the end and got a bluetooth dongle for my pc.
I should just say it DOES have a loudspeaker, when you're on a call
just press the main button (ok) then again to turn it on. A lot
of the problems people have put on this page are not actually issues
e.g. loudspeaker, shortcuts, menu access, key unlocking, games (I
have bejewled on it) etc they are all fine. To sum up, a great phone
which looks and feels lovely with an amazing camera. I can put up
with the battery life :o)

Having had this phone a few weeks now, I've discovered all the major
strengths and weaknesses. The main strength is the look and feel
of the phone. It is true to say theres no other like it on the market.
It looks very sleek and professional, while at the same time is
easy to use. The touch screen buttons do take a little while to
get used to, but make life so much easier once you get the hang
of it. I will say that occasionally the sensitivity of the buttons
goes a bit haywire, but does nothing that cant be easily rectified
in a few seconds. The camera is 5 megapixels which is great, however,
having had a sony ericsson k800i 3.2mp previously I have to say
the quality is not always as good. Especially for scenes which are
not perfectly still. The flash leaves a lot to be desired. I have
also found the signal strength to be quite poor, where Ive never
had problems with other phones, the LG Secret tends to search more
often, causing me to miss phone calls. However, although this is
a common problem with the phone, having replaced the handset this
new one seems to work much better. The battery life is not fantastic,
requiring a charge at least every two days, but this is quite common
with the latest phones. On a better note, the handset is very easy
to use. There are a few shortcut buttons on the side for camera,
menu and home page which make using the phone on the go easier than
many others. The materials used in this phone are a great selling
point, especially if you have a long contract for the phone, as
scratches and dents are almost impossible to make. If you want a
phone that makes toast and brews tea, this probably isnt for you,
however, if you want a simple phone with some of the latest features,
and most importantly with the best style then you should get this
phone.

lot of crib about the bad battery life in here, but it lasts for
about 2 days with my usage (messaging, music, frequent short calls
and pictures sometimes). Camera is awesome (auto focus is perfect).
Although the touch takes a little bit to time to get used to but
once set..it makes usage very esays. I had Nokia N95 before this

life is absolutely appauling! I upgraded my handset from a Nokia
Sirocco, which was notorious for poor battery life, but this handset
certainly is the front-runner for extremely poor battery life! The
other issue with it is also the reception. It definetly the handset

is with the BATTERY LIFE. It is POOR. Having to charge my phone

As I don't use my phone a large amount, I am surprised and how quickly

I got this phone a week ago today and it’s going back tomorrow.
It’s a great looking phone and I really wanted to like it,
but I found it frustrating to use. The biggest problem I had with
this phone is the signalreception; I would sometimes retrieve it
from my pocket only for it to say ‘emergency calls only’,
then a few seconds later the signal would come back. So if anyone
was to try and contact me whilst the phone was in my pocket I would
not get the call. Also my wife is on same network as me and I had
to use her phone on a couple of occasions as I could not get a signal
at all. The battery life is poor, but apparently slimmer phones
don't have very good battery life due to the size, but I am not
a heavy user and I got just under 2 days use out of it before recharging
the phone again. At first the games seem fun and clever, but then
the novelty wears off, and the maze game after 2 mins seemed pretty
pointless as it was dead simple and easy to play. Having said all
this, I found the camera and video very good, and I liked the idea
of toughened glass and the carbon fibre backing as I broke my Samsung
d900 in my pocket. The touch sensitive buttons are ok, I couldn’t
quite get used to them, and I have large fingers so I would sometimes
accidentally hit another button. As I said I really did want to
like this phone, but it had a fundamental flaw and that was the
signal, maybe it was just this particular phone and not all LG Secrets
have this problem!?!? Anyway I get my Sony Ericsson C902 tomorrow
as replacement, so I hope this will be a better phone!

be more than happy to sit on the train and watch an entire movie

the headphones. I was amused to find that there are games pre-installed
on the phone that use the "tilt" sensors. there are 6 games pre-installed
on my phone that all work simply by moving the phone around (very
wii) There are various methods of getting to your music ... some
better than others, but once you get to the main interface you can
sort your music in just about any way you want. Its got some quirks
that take a bit of getting used to and its often easy to press an
arrow key while your trying to press the centre button. when you
initialy start using the phone it is easy to think that the only
part of the phone that is touch screen is the lower section. there
is however a button on the right hand side that allows you to turn
on the touchscreen. this has limited applications but all seem to
work quite well. The bad bit is that i am having very little luck
in getting the lg software to work. So far Vista and XP have let
me down meaning i still dont have a contacts list and to add music/movies
to the phone i need to remove the card and add the file manualy.
if you try to use the phone without sliding down the keyboard you
will also find that the phone goes into locked mode very quickly
and if you try to use the touchscreen music player the phone take
quite a while to lock and changes track if you put it in your pocket.

This is defenitaly a phone with form over function in mind. The
Bluetooth software is not compatible with car kits, where all other

phone drops signal randomly and cannot get a signal inside shops.
No hope of reading the screen outside in sunlight as the glass acts
as a mirror, various other little annoyances, why cant they put
txt characters as a picture like sony instead of :) and -:) who
know what:-)* means???? not everyone is a 12 year old LG and speaks

Like many here, I had high hopes for this phone, and knew I wanted
it from the moment I saw it. On receiving it as an upgrade, I initially
wasnt dissapointed. The look and feel of it is superb, it really
does feel high quality and well built. I found the user interface
easy to use and well laid out (though why LG didnt include the option
to turn on the touch screen for ALL options I dont know). Neither
did I have any issues with battery life (unlike some here). With
normal use, I found I was getting a good couple of days or so. HOWEVER,
the BIG problem I've had is reception. Like others here my experience
is that the phone simply cant hold a signal, even in areas of fairly
good reception. This has meant ALOT of dropped calls, and as a result
I've had to grudgingly return the phone as its rendered it next
to useless. I think its a shame as this could have been a real winner
for LG. Why o why do phone cos continue to design fantastic phones
with loads of great features, but still seem to forget the most
important function of all, making calls! I'm giving it three stars
only because I think the build quality and styling are so good!!

Had to send the first one back as it swticthed itself off when texting
and would not delete a word. Although this did not put me off and
my new one is excellent. Battery lasts forever, close up photo flash
not that good, touch screen good, no problems with it. Easy use,
looks and feels sleek. Overall top effort on mobile gesign.

Having struggled along for 18 months with the cripplingly slow browsing
capabilities of my blackberry pearl I was expecting great things
from my shiny new secret. I love the look and feel of the handset
and also its core functions, but when you look a bit deeper it all
starts to come apart. The battery life is pants (at most a day if
I stream five mins of youtube), all of the normal port settings
for pop3 and imap dont work which took forty minutes on the phone
with t-mobile TDMS to resolve (we gave up entirely trying to set
up my gmail account in IMAP). No graphic equalizer on the media
player! Dropping signal for no reason (when the viewty in my other
pocket was fine), and no way of shortcutting common functions. Seems
to be a case of form over function and it could have been sooooo
right with a little more thought

Brilliant phone, stylish and easy to use. One really annoying problem
though. The Call Accept, Reject and Cancel buttons stop illuminating
after 5 days. The same goes the for the top 2 soft function touch
buttons. Both the original and the replacement have has the same
problem about the same time after receiving the phone. Searching
on the internet doesn't give me any help.

Nice looking, camera is poor, video cam is amazing though - the
reason i bought it. I loose the signal everytime i pick it up when
im at home (but not outside) and i couldnt get the battery to last
all day - but then i have been playing with it alllll day so i'll
wait till the novelty wears off. I dont like the 'fade in' effect
when someone rings and there is no option to turn it off. I have
missed calls all day :( I'm definately a sony ericsson person.

Love this phone, its stylish with high end functions. The Camera
is fantastic! The pictures look great and the video is immense,
VGA quality is great and 120ffp at QVGA is soo fun!. The only thing
i can say is when close up the flash makes the photo look white
but i found out today that there is going to be an update with the
fix for that problem, so its all good!! Other things aswell such
as battry life, divx player and keypad all work very nicely and
the Touch Media is also great fun!

Everything about the phone is great; I love the touchpad and the
M-Toy games are entertaining. The camera is good, except when close
to the flash, it tends to make things look ghostly! The weight is
good and the overall look is really nice. The only real problem
I've got is that there is no option of putting a password on messages
which is very useful to me. Ah well! Very nice phone.

I have had every mobile phone brand imaginable since they were the
size of a breeze block and you needed 2 spare huge batteries available
just to get through the day!! This phone is without doubt the best
I have ever had. Stylish, clear sound, strong signal, bluetooth
works great with my macbook, and long battery life. After my last
Nokia n73 which was a nightmare as far as faults were concerned,
this phone is a breath of fresh air........ It does what it should
do... WORK !

Got this as an upgrade, after having a Nokia all my life. Really
like the size and feel of the phone - a big upgrade from the N73
that i had. Bad points so far - the selection button in the middle
of the touch pad doesnt work that well fo rme - due to having large
fingers i tend to keep hitting the touch keys. The camera outside
is fine - good colour representation good focus. Inside though -
the flash really whites out the photo. As i have only had the phone
less than a day thats about all i can say - will have more points
to say once i have had a real play.

I don't rate this phone. I was looking forward to getting it but
i'm sending it back to O2. It freezes and switches itself off when
i'm writing texts. Texts cannot be deleted all at once, just one
at a time, battery life isn't great. I'd a Samsung soul before this
and I sent it back too. Gonna try a Nokia 6500 slide.

Just got this phone. Don't understand why anyone can say it's tacky.
It's made from carbon fibre and tempered glass? I've found the touch
screen works perfectly and the balance between touch screen and
mechanical keys works very well. It looks so nice compared to the
Samsung soul which I found ugly and bulky. No regrets, I'm very
happy with this phone! Not tried the games or the camera yet tho.

looked if you think the u900 is origanal, this phone isnt meant
to be a rubbish gimmick , its pure class and by far the thinist

I thought this phone was amazing. i love the appearance and it is
really easy to use. My parter has got the KU990 (viewty) and he
said the phones are much alike, besides the veiwty is a touch screen.
The camera is said to be 5.0 mega pixels but it disappointed me
as the images are often blurred and there is no xeon flash. If the
camera does not mean a great deal for you then i would highly recommend
this phone. It's stylish and easy to use.
