In a nutshell: The Prada phone is a stunning phone featuring
a touchscreen display. It's Prada-branded and arguably the best
looking phone currently available. It also features an array of
gadgets including a camera, music player and a built-in FM radio.
Unlike LG's other fashion phones (the LG Chocolate and the LG Shine),
the Prada phone pulls it off - it looks cool and it's practical
too! Best buy: *Free* Prada Clearance with half-price line rental
or a free Nintendo Wii from Mobiles.co.uk;
or £119.95 on PAYG from Dialpahone

Review:
April 2007. Updated December 2008.
Well,
LG have been pushing fashion phones in a big way in the past year
(especially the Chocolate and
Shine phones), but now by teaming
up with Prada, they have produced their most stylish phone yet.
Wait, it's possibly the most stylish phone yet. It's so cool
it's not even allowed to have the LG logo on it, but is Prada-branded.
Yes, it's the LG Prada, or to give it its proper title, the PRADA
phone by LG. The Prada phone is the embodiment of minimalist chic,
with its gloss-black finish, slender size and um, hang on, no keypad!
Yes, this is a touchscreen phone, with buttons displayed on the
screen. These are not like the touch-sensitive buttons used in the
LG Chocolate, but actually appear on the LCD screen and change according
to the current menu function (see picture on right). There are two
real buttons just below the screen for send and return, so you can
at least switch the phone on and off without any trouble! There
are also side buttons for controlling volume, the camera and music
player. There's a choice of themes, but the default is black and
white, which suits the look of the phone very well. When not in
use, the screen virtually disappears from view, just like the Chocolate.
The Prada has some specially designed ringtones too, which frankly
we found irritating, especially the ones called "Noise"
and "Man". You can listen to these on the PRADA
phone website.
Now, let's talk about this touchscreen thing. In
theory touchscreens are a great feature because 1) they're really
cool, and 2) they eliminate the space taken up by a keypad so you
can make a compact phone with a large screen. But in reality they
suffer from certain disadvantages - mainly the fact that they can
be difficult to use and can drive you nuts. Successful implementations
include the Sony Ericsson W950i
and Sony Ericsson P990i, which
both have a stylus for using with the touchscreen. The LG Prada
has no stylus, ('cos styluses aren't cool) so you have to use your
fingers to press the buttons. The buttons are quite small, so you'll
find it easier to use if you have small fingers. So, this phone
may be better suited to ladies. However, if you have very long nails
you may have some trouble. The menu system
is actually very intuitive, and once you've got used to pressing
the screen, you'll find it responsive and easy to use. Texting is
done via the virtual numeric keypad, which supports T9 predictive
text. This is probably the hardest thing to get used to. If you
send a lot of texts, you should think really hard before choosing
the Prada. On balance, the touchscreen interface is OK. Some may
find it annoying; others not. In any case, sometimes you've got
to suffer a little to look good! One other thing to point out is
that the screen and black casing will get covered in fingerprints
very quickly (unless you wear Prada gloves when handling the phone.)
Prada have thoughtfully provided a branded LCD cleaner, so you can
look elegant even whilst cleaning your phone. There's also an exclusive
leather case, but why hide away something this pretty?
Normally when a phone looks this good, the other
functions tend to let it down. But with the Prada, it doesn't just
look nice, it does all the tech stuff too. Nice to know when you're
spending £400 on a phone! We're going to rush this bit, because
the tech stuff is probably not what most Prada users need to know.
Here goes: 2 megapixel camera with flash - not the best ever, but
good enough for snapping friends in restaurants (or wherever owners
of Prada phones hang out); music player; FM radio; email with support
for MS Office attachments; microSD
memory card (expandable to 1 Gybte); Bluetooth & USB connectivity;
EDGE data transfer. Nothing significant missing. Battery life is
slightly less than average (probably due to powering the huge screen!)
In conclusion, the LG Prada fulfils its role as
a high-fashion accessory for those with enough disposable income
to distance themselves from the Chav crowd. It does everything you'd
want (and more too), it is very gadgety but without being nerdy,
and it probably won't annoy you too much with its touchscreen unless
you're very impatient. In which case, you probably didn't read to
the end of this review anyway. The new LG
Viewty isn't Prada branded, but incorporates a 5 megapixel camera
and other improvements. The LG
Prada 2 launches in December 2008 and features a slideout QWERTY
keyboard.
Features
of the LG Prada include:
2 megapixel camera with autofocus, light and
2x digital zoom

the touch screen being very easy to use. yes it does attract fingerprints
easily but if your hands are fairly clean this is'nt such a big
problem, plus you can always wipe the phone on your trouser leg

PLEASE CONSIDER THESE COMMENTS 1ST - If you're looking for chic
& stylish & just use the basics of a phone then it's OK BUT if you
really use the functions offered by your phone, then it's not a
smart buy - it's so close to passing the grade but just doesn't
quite make it in my opinion, you're better off with a smartphone
like the SonyEricP990i if you're a serious user I eagerly bought
the phone earlier than most when pre-released by Prada on 13 May
and have sadly already experienced many problems with it - I'm desperate
for LG to remedy its problems as I adore the look of the Prada phone
& do love the clean lines & touch screen (it takes a little time
adjusting to it) but it has already been returned it to LG twice
(once at LG's own request) for reinstallation & rectification of
unstable software & a number of bugs. These included: phone randomly
turning itself off, autolock freezed permanently, the calendar schedule
has a particular defect (an annual reminder will show up as highlighted
on the same date in every subsequent month as an "undefined schedule")
which is acknowledged by LG here in Singapore as currently being
unrectifiable (this may not bother many people but I use my calendar
a lot & it is a huge problem when you glance at each month for free
dates & it looks full of appointments on every day of that month),
non responsive touch screen whilst texting and entering schedules
and many more trivial things (eg. doesn't set the USB default setting
to "data service" so each time you turn your phone on/off & then
try to sync with the LG software provided, you have to reset the
connectivity settings every time) but they do all add up & become
rather annoying over time. When transferring contacts/memos/schedules
from other phones via the LG sync software provided, you lose a
lot of data not catered for such as home & business addresses, emails
& you have to re-enter & then re-organise/edit these personally
within the software before uploadi ng back onto the phone. I certainly
don't recommend it for anyone with broad fingertips or long nails.
I do a lot of texting & it drives me totally insane - very fiddly
& has an illogical system when switching btwn caps, no caps & numerics
with the Shift button & the T9 entries are difficult & time consuming
compared to other non LG phones. Moving your cursor up/dwn, back/fwrd
with the arrows in the white screen when entering text is sooo time
consuming & fiddly & u constantly have to double touch & often miss
the arrows. I'm constantly having to edit on this phone which is
a "first time" for me. Seeing the screen in bright light is difficult.
If group texting multiple recipients, you can't just select a number
of contacts in one go, you have to go back & forth btwn the Contacts
& your text & select each name individually - forget about saving
time with group texting. Also the background Up/dwn scrolling arrows
within the Contacts search list is also frustrating when searchi
ng names as it's far too sensitive & often selects the name in the
foreground. Generally, when searching through the Contacts, you
have to press far too many buttons to get to where you want. Although
the user interface is quite intuitive, it often requires too many
touches & can be time consuming. Camera & flash quality not on par
with most other phones. It's far too nice to put in the leather
case so cleaning it drives me nuts, fingerprints make the screen
dull and harder to see the numbers & the screen does scratch very
easily even though I use the casing regularly. BATTERY LIFE IS UNDENIABLY
VERY POOR if you use your phone alot - People call me all day and
it's dead before 6pm - the LG service guy told me realistically
it only lasts a max 36hrs on standby but if you're using it, less
than 24 hrs. It looks so lovely but is somewhat disappointing -
I've been asked by LG to wait for a software "patch" to be developed
by LG technicians to fix the calendar issue so am holding on to
my Prada for now but I know I will inevitably & reluctantly be forced
to go back to using my old, unstylish but reliable Nokia phone &
Blackberry until any of: the much improved, next generation Prada
LG, a smaller SEP990i or the Apple i-phone is released. Rating:

Why do people come on to these review sites to slam devices that
they have given about 5 minutes of their less than expansive brain
power to. Don't you get sick of reading reviews about people who
say "I've had mine for a day and its going back tomorrow" You gotta
give the Prada a chance, I have only just ordered mine and it arrives
on Thurs but I can say that I am in love with this phone already.
I have a Samsung E900 presently and find that the touch buttons
on the front of that a nightmare. Numerous times you try to skip
an MP3 and you accidentally brush the end/cancel button and it stops
playing. In all the reviews people are always referring to the buttons
on the screen of the Prada being too small.....Can I just ask, have
you actually seen this phone in the flesh? The buttons are by no
means small and me being well over 6ft my fingers are not on the
small size and when I tried it in-store before ordering direct with
orange (was a better deal) and I had no problems with the buttons
and found them to be larger than the keypad buttons on the E900!
No this phone is not a smartphone and it was never suggested that
it would be, so why do people rant that it doesn't have all the
features? If you want a smartphone buy a smartphone! Also there
has never been and never will be a phone that is absolutely perfect
in everyway. Technology doesn't work like that, come to think of
it the world doesn't work that way either. You have got to expect
that there are some things the LG can't do as well as other manufacturers
and thats just life. However you have to admit that when it comes
to style the koreans have the field there. I would suggest that
people visit youtube and have a look at some of the video reviews
before posting biased and misinformed comments. Personally I cant
wait to get mine delivered and will happily dispose of the E900
in the most unceremonial way possible. LG all the way! Rating:

to publish this "review", as it tells us nothing about
the Prada phone. But there have been many comments on the similarity
between the Prada phone and the Apple

of all, we couldn't give a damn which came first - that is of no
relevance. Secondly, the Prada phone is on the shelves now, whereas
the iPhone is "planned" for launch in summer 2007 - let's
see. Thirdly, although they may look superficially similar (they
both have touchscreens) they are completely different types of phone.
The Prada is a high fashion phone that looks amazing. The iPhone
is a high-tech phone/PDA designed for techies. We're frankly worried
about the iPhone: look at the problems Nokia have had with their
Nseries smartphones. The iPhone incorporates
every conceivable gadget that you could think of putting in a phone,
uses the "most sophisticated operating system in the world"
(i.e. completely untested in mobile phones) and is the first phone

Are you trying to sync numbers to your pc?! You have to use the
LG software for that thats in the box, as i said you change between
the mass storage and the phone itself (in terms of numbers)by going
in to settings connectivity usb connection and changing it to data
service, make sure you press ok as if you select and just press
back it doesnt work. Then once this has been selected its a simple
case of loading the software, plugging the phone into the USB pressing
the circular button at the top of the screen within the software
and all your numbers should come up on the right handside then you
can save them. Once you've done this i think you can import them
into outlook, my only criticism of the software is when you edit
numbers within the phone on screen you cannot do multiple numbers
at once, its a bit off a faff, but its great as a backup. People
who have has problems transfering music, the standard setting in
itunes is m4a format which wont play, you will have to convert the
music to mp3 (its probably easier to re rip the cds) but if you
are using windows media player or itunes you will have to change
the settings in the programme so that when ripping the music is
ripped into mp3 format not wma (windows media player) or m4a (itunes)
as neither formats are supported. Also its probably easier to transfer
music with the micro sd in a card readers as the transfer rate is
much much faster, and that way you are able to have the phone turned
on so it can receive calls and texts when your transfering music
as it takes some time. I've had my Prada a month now, im really
used to the texting its a dream so dont be put off by people who
havent given the phone a chance, the battery life is fine, infact
i've been on the phone for over the talktime amount on a few occassions

I must say if you're looking for a phone thats going to keep your
dairy, appointments and all other major occasions and activities
in your life in check then this isn't it. I've had my Prada for
a fortnight now and I haven't had any reason to complain. It's only
crashed on me once and that was last night ( it still wasn't anything
major either it just wouldn't clear the sms front screen on the
main display so I had to remove the battery ot re-boot ) apart from
that it's been fine. I went from a SE W810i to this phone and believe
me it took me nearly 6 weeks to finally decide what phone to choose
( I had looked at the SE 880i , N95 etc etc). At the end of the
day a phone is only a piece of electrical equipment, they all go
wrong from time to time and in about 9-10 months I'll be changing
it for something else. I'll be brutally honest with you, I went
for the Prada simply because I'd never had a touch screen phone
before and I'd thought I'd give it a go simply to try something
different. Like I've already said, if you're after a 'All singing

I like Prada very much, but not when partnered with LG! The LG chocolate,
the cutest & worst phone ever! People! I agree with all the comments
with rating less than 3/2 stars: alarm, text input, even when deleting
msgs, double/triple pressing to reactivate the idle mood & often
ended the call by mistake, slow bluetooth transfer, & lack of several
features common in SE & Nokia, the quality of the mic from the ipod
lookalike headset is far from SE's, had to hold & turn the side
of the mic with hands = definitely not a handsfree phone combined
with the lack of speaker, the reception is not as strong as SE!
Don't even need to read the 5 stars! chocolate or LG Prada may be
good for image but what do we need a mobile phone for? Making calls
conveniently, chatting with ease, texting smoothly, to wake me up
until I do(oh did i mention there's no snooze function), listen
to music with the fuss, clear snap shots! Well, LG apparently doesn't
fulfil any of these? I do wish Prada should have teamed up with
SE, Samsung or Nokia then it'd become the best mobile ever!! With
LG, this is not the case... at all! Rating:

I just tried again. You definitely need to press the power key twice
to end a call once the screen goes black to save power during a
call. Once to light the screen back up and a second time to end
a call. I've checked all the settings for relevant options to circumvent
this but to no avail. Anyone else had this issue? As far as pressing
the # key 6 times to bring back lower case letters, when you text
as much as I do while being on the go, pressing a key 6 times on
a touchscreen to get back where I was is infuriating. You can only
do it so fast otherwise the screen doesn't register the press! I'm
sure it's fine for others but unfortunately not for me. :-) To help
Oli out, you don't have to keep pressing back to go back to a word
up the screen. You can press the up arrow (bring this up by pressing
the centre of the white text area)as long as there's no word highlighted.
If you want to un-highlight a word, you have to press space then
delete to bring the cursor back. Annoying. Also to disagree with
Nokia Tester, the SE W810i took better pictures. Just try taking
a picture in the dark even with the Prada's light on. It won't come
out. I just received a Nokia N73 Black edition from Orange. The
perfect phone. Easy to text and brilliant camera. Haven't had any
crashes, errors or bugs of any kind. Looks like Nokia finally got
the firmware sorted! Shame they couldn't get it right first time

Phone is VERY good. But there are a few issues. Texting is a casual
affair opposed to the rapid t9 input of a sony ericsson! You can
change words on the prada by pressing in the centre of the text.
this changes the arrow diection, and when it shows up and down,
you press those to change words. For me its the fact i have big
fingers! So often press 9 instead of 6. The camera is not very high
quality. This is a big come down from the CCD 3.2mp of my K800i
to the CMOS 2mp. And you can't zoom unless you switch the camera
quality down. You cannot change the text message tone to anything
other than 4 presets. Which is a shame, as i had a custom one on
my K800i! My phone does not sync with XP MCE! I can view it as mass
storage, but data connection does not work! So i cant edit my contacts
on my computer! The phone has mysteriously switched itself off twice
now. I go back to it and its dead.. Very odd. I'll keep an eye on
it, not sure i've heard of anyone else having this problem. Battery!!!
The life remaining goes all over the place! Definately switch on
power saving to save a lot of juice. Remember, its a big screen
to power, and they only used a lithium ion, not lithium polymer!
You cant register the KE850 on lg's website, but you can on the
wap site! although, there's nothing to download for it yet! I was
hoping for more theme's. Other than this, the phone is very good.
Great to show off, (when its not in power saving, which lowers the
brightness!). Pics look good, tho linking pictures to contacts produces
mixed results! Video playback seems ok, and you can switch to full
widescreen. Texting is slow, but doing everything else on this phone
feels easy as you just point at what you want. At the end of the
day, if you want a really feature filled phone get an SE K810i.
(The N95 has soooo many software bugs!). But if you're happy to
choose style over substance, (ie missing out on RSS, 3G, vodafone
portal, decent camera, decent battery, fast text) then you will
love the prada! Rating:

said by 'prada don dada' below you can change from abc to t9 mode

If you text alot- which i do... do not get this phone!!! i was wooed

have a loud speaker and radio which is kl. The flash is a joke.
a bad joke. I can basically text without looking on my old phone
(d900), but this requires all your attention. you will find you
often have to edit words. also, you cannot go up on the text screen...
you have to press back a million times!!!! its hard to text in the
sun as the numbers are not visible. being not solid, they don't
reflect light to your eyes. The ringtone gets steadily louder and
only reaches the max volume (on max setting) after about 6 rings
from the phone you're calling from (i tested it). this means that
you wont hear your ringtone until the person calling has given up-
this is unforgiveable. You know all the plus points- if i never
texted or used the alarm, i would put up with it as a fashion phone
but its the litte things that count for me. Sorry to say it- touchscreen
technology is a gimmick and cannot possibly last. Its even put me
off the iPhone- something i never thought i would say. Rating:

Received my phone a few days ago and WHOA did it look cool, however
in this day and age looks can be deceiving fortunately the phone
opperates like a dream. The camera is cool, the full screen viewfinder
is awesome (looks like one of the new sony breed of slim digi cams.
It takes pictures MUCH more easilly than my k750i ever did one click
and it focuses and everything for you (you don't have to hold the
key down)! Texting is a great, when i first got the phone i was
like oh dear im going to have to live with this impossible method
of texting however after a couple of hours it became REALLY easy
to text (quite a few people have said the phone isn't for those
with fat fingers)but the keys that come up on the screen are 3 times
the size of those on my k750i also the phone doesn't have a joystick
that will break!! BIG positive, more good news the T9 is great you
change a word in T9 by bringing up the up/down arrows by touching
the white text screen in the centre and using them to cycle through
words (people have said the phone is rubbish because of this, they
are wrong as it works perfectly). Another criticism people have
had was the phone running slowly when they put mp3 tracks on the
micro sd, i'd already bough a 2gb one off ebay but tried completely
ramming my 256mb one with songs and yes the phone does slow down
(not that noticeably)so using a larger sd card with about 125mb
free for the phone to randomly access sorts out this situation.
The mp3 player does have to load (5 secs) when there is a large
amount of songs however this isn't surprising. Otherwise the phone
is fantastic. Yes its a bit of a fingerprint magnet but not that
bad (its no worse than the razor v3 and if you put it in the case
its not as bad). I've bought a screen protector sticker off ebay
which is great (the screen doesn't smudge at all anymore & why moan
when its well documented you get a cleaning cloth its a shiney plastic
its bound to pick up the prints. The games are cool too and altho
the battery life is probs about 4days standby i've been hammering
it all day making calls my friends were playing on the games and
ive used the mp3 player for about 2hrs solid and its still on half
(just dont leave the bluetooth on)its far better than the N95 which
my mates got his was flat after using it as an mp3 player for an
hour!!!!!! Overall the phones great infact incredible, its got cool
features LOADS of functions in terms of the camera and mp3 player
(which looks majorly cool) its easy to text from and is a real head
turner! And i think i've successfully turned over all the bad complaints
on here about it as most of these people are wrong in some of the
things they have said about the phone in terms of tech and specification.

have. Hope This Helps!!!!! Will :) Rating:

I've had this phone nearly two weeks now and have used it extensively.
Got it on Orange Dolphin 35 for the unlimited texts as I text ALOT!
Phone looks fabulous no doubt. Great display and touchscreen interface
works well. Has an intuitive menu layout and a good set of basic
features such as calender, calculator and converter, although camera
is total rubbish. Takes passable photos in daylight but in the dark
nothing comes out, even using the "flash" light! Ending calls is
a nuisance as the screen power saver means that the screen goes
dark during a call meaning you have to press a button to activate
the screen and then press the end button to end your call. Now to
the texting. Although I've learnt to text fast with my index finger
using the T9, the system has some faults. It's all too easy to switch
the letters to capitals mid-text, which you then have to rectify
by pressing the # key 6 times to get back to lower-case letters!
To answer a previous poster, you change a word in T9 by bringing
up the up/down arrows by touching the white text screen in the centre
and using them to cycle through words. Sending the text involves
pressing the send key 3 times unlike on a Nokia where you can just
press the green call key to send it straight away. Also if the phone
is in silent mode, as mine is while I'm sleeping, the alarm doesn't
make a sound! Totally pointless! Overall, a phone to make and receive

I received this phone yesterday after a very long wait! It looks
great, and everyone in my office has been oohing and aaahing over
it. There are just a few things that are bothering me: If the phone
is in silent or vibrate mode the alarm clock only vibrates or remains
silent, which sort of defeats the purpose of an alarm clock! I long
ago realised that switching my phone to silent or vibrate at night
was the only way to guarantee a full night's sleep with no interuptions,
but how am I meant to wake myself in the morning? (And don't say
buy a separate alarm clock, what's the point when I should have
a decent alarm clock in my phone ha ha). Secondly, once again on
the alarm clock, my old phone had a feature that saved a minute
amount of battery power so that if the phone ran out of battery
and switched itself off the alarm could still work (you could switch
this feature on and off). Now that was handy! And lastly, there's
no WiFi. I knew this when I bought the phone, but I convinced myself
it was better to have a fancy new phone now than to wait six months
for the iPhone to come out...I'm wondering if I made the right decision...
There are a few other small features that aren't advanced as I'd
hoped they might be to keep the Prada in line with my old standard
phone that's over 2 years old. But as I said, it looks so gorgeous
that I'm just going to have to get over it!! :-) Rating:

for those who like a good image. However, not so good to actually
use. My suggestion - buy a phone with buttons. Rating:

This is the best phone that Ihave ever had (and I've had a few).
I will point out one things that may be an issue to some though.
The texting can be a little frustrating but nothing I can't live
with. It's not a smart phone, it's phone with all the features you
would want. Some of the little touches are fantastic, such as the
clock on the screensaver that follows your finger when you move
it, the calculator which is top notch. The camera is superb and
the mP3 player and the radio is as good as any other phone. If you
want your mates to want your phone then get this phone. Rating:
