LG
Chocolate Review
Phone
rating:
In a nutshell: The LG Chocolate KG800 is a beautiful phone
with touch-sensitive keys that definitely scores 10 out of 10 when
it comes to looks! It's available in a choice of black, pink or
lilac. It has a built-in camera, music player and Bluetooth wireless
connectivity. The camera isn't the best and memory is limited, with
enough space to store around 30 songs. Other complaints include
poor battery life and overly-sensitive buttons. But despite these
problems the Chocolate has been near the top of the best-selling
list for the past year. It's now available incredibly cheaply and
continues to sell rapidly, but stocks will run out soon, so get
yours now if you want one!
Best buy: *Free*
LG Chocolate with free line rental for 12 months from mobiles.co.uk;
or £34.95 on Pay as you Go from the Carphone
Warehouse (available in lilac & black).
From
time to time a phenomenonally original phone is released. The LG
KG800 (nicknamed the LG Chocolate) is one such phone. In an age
when pink seems to be the "in" colour, the LG is brown
(very dark - almost black) with a beautiful gloss finish and sliver
detailing. The idea that it looks like a bar of chocolate is tenuous,
but it's definitely an eye-catcher, and the more that you see the
cooler it gets.
A
sliding phone, when closed the Chocolate just looks mysterious.
It's dark, with a dark LCD screen, and just an LG logo and a silver
OK button to give any clue about what to do with it. The hidden
keypad is touch sensitive and glows red when in use. When opened,
the full keypad is available. There are also buttons around the
edge for volume control and multimedia - MP3, camera and video.
The design works well and looks fantastic, although the touch-sensitive
keys are quite sensitive and take a little getting used to.
Feature-wise,
the Chocolate comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera (with flash) and
a video camera. The display is high quality. The
Chocolate has an MP3 player that can handle a wide range of formats.
Music can be controlled from the touch pad or with the inline remote
control supplied with the handset. A headset is included and this
plugs into the charging port. MP3 ringtones are supported, and there's
128 Mbytes of memory which is pretty good, although a memory card
option would have been nice to have. Both wireless Bluetooth connectivity
and USB are supported. Interestingly the Chocolate can function
as a mass storage device with software to enable photos, videos
and music tracks to be dragged and dropped between phone and PC.
The
Chocolate is quite slim and compact and weighs just 83g, making
it an ideal handbag companion. Equally it will easily fit into a
jeans pocket. The keypad is sensitive to touch and heat, so it won't
be activated when in a bag. Battery life is below average and the
phone will need charging every few days.
The
Chocolate is definitely a cool phone to be seen with but it does
have its problems. The touch sensitive buttons look fantastic, but
have been known to drive people insane! The Chocolate is also not
the most reliable phone ever, and suffers from poor battery life.
Before buying, also consider the Samsung
E900 and the newer LG Shine.
If you decide to buy the Chocolate you'll find some incredible deals
online- on Pay as you Go you can buy it online
from the Carphone
Warehouse for an incrediby cheap £34.95 in a choice of
lilac or black.

This phone is great and oh so pretty! Ok, yes it is basic, but people
please do remember it is what it says on the box... A PHONE! It
has a camera which is 'average'... if you want a digital camera...
buy one! It has MP3 which again is nothing special... so buy an
ipod! I love this phone its small enough for me to pop in my pocket
with my lippy on a girls night out and has a camera with a flash
to capture those moments that make memories without having to take
my camera along too. I also currently own (to name just a few) a
SE K750i, a Nokia N90 and N70 which are all great if you want a
phone that does it all. But to be honest on a day to day basis the
Chocolate wins it does all that is needed and looks damn fine too!!
If you cant afford a digital camera and/or mp3 player then dont
get this phone as your free upgrade! Go for a Nokia, Samsung or
Sony Ericsson instead! Those of you that chose this phone expecting
too much perhaps you should have used some common sense and done
a bit of research first, then you wouldn't feel the need to complain
about a phone that does everything that it told you it would! For
all those of you with a sweet tooth, enjoy... this phone is very
aptly named! :o)

I was really looking forward to receiving this phone, however, i
feel let down. It looks amazing, the touch buttons, although a pain
to begin with, are great and make the phone easy to use, however,
when needing a phone to do phone things, it sucks!! Writing a text
message is such a hassle, buttons work only when they want to, you
can't hear text message tones, connecting to a call and being able
to hear nothing, lack of reception in areas i had full reception
on my D500, awful battery life and it always looks filthy (finger
prints all over it)!! I am now about to send my 2nd one back, and
prob get an E900. Gave it 2 chances but not good i'm afraid :-(

when it came I was like oh my god check out the box and then when
I saw the phone... I said 'Hi Sexy Baby' BUT just like a man it
let me down! It was annoying I found the dials very hard to use
as they were very sensitive but also that text thing with the capital
letters was annoying too. It looked nice but what use was a phone
if you can't even hear if you get a text or a missed call? Like
Hellllooo ! I tried it for a week but found myself taking the sim
out to put back in my old phone to text and make a call quickly..
ok I know you have to get used to new phones but this was beyond

I did own this phone but only for a few days as i have just took
it back and swapped for the samsung e900,not that i think this phone
is bad,as i don't.This is the first and only lg phone i have had
and was quite happy with it but as i am a samsung junkie the samsung
gave me more of what i need and want from a phone.I think the chocolate
phone was very sexy, small and a joy to use apart from a few things
1)as i make use of picture phonebook,i had to keep the pics small
to use them,so they looked really bad and it was a hassle changing
camera settings 2)when i wanted to change the sound effect volume
off it turns the slide tone off too, whicj i like having on my phone. So
it's either put up with the annoying tune it makes when you confirm
something or have the slide tone silent-very annoying 3)why for
gods sake are the message tones so quiet, they are the most ridiculously
quiet tones i have ever (just)heard,a nightmare when people are
moaning at you cuz you haven't text back.Bu t they were the only
gripes i had.I was happy with the amount of memory, the battery was
ok and the touchpads i had no problem with at all, they were great.I
thought for a 1.3 mega pixel camera the pics were very clear and
sharp and was very happy with it.So in all i think people should
buy this phone if they are interested and just see for themselves
if they can get used to the keys. But then,if you want a better camera
feature and more memory go for samsung e900,hope this helps. P.S
this phone is not just for chavs and find it insulting as i am a
29 yr old married woman,it's for all ages and either sex. have fun
with your new phone

I shouldn't have worried at all! I can't believe some of the comments
in this page. Battery Life? it lasts me a couple of days and thats
with loads of usage! Scratching? I've kept the screen cover on and
its fine! MP3 not loud enough? Louder than most phones, thats for
sure! This phone is the business! It's very sexy, really impressed
A LOT of people! The buttons took some time getting used to, but
now I can use them with no problems at all! The box and the accesorries

Hi, I have had this phone for 4 weeks now, so I speak with some
authority. The phone will ultimatley appeal to those who put style
ahead of functionality. It is a handsome phone & even the packaging
has not escaped the designers touch. I have rated this phone 3 stars.
I have knocked 2 off for: 1. When writing texts in predictive mode,
on finishing a sentence with a full stop the next sentence does
not automatically start with a capital letter (as my Nokia did).
It may sound like a small issue (especially to those who neither
use proper punctuation or spelling), however it is really, really
frustrating. 2. For some reason, any animations that I download
onto the handset run slowly. 3. When calling, on occasion the person
on the other end can hear me talking, though I can't hear them.
4. The battery life is poor. There are many better phones on the
market. But there are none that in my opinion are better looking.
This handset has firmly placed LG in amongst the big boys. Until
this phone came along, who do you know who had an LG mobile? It
is a reasonably good phone that in this day & age should have been
better. A flawed beauty.

I love this litte fone, I'm a bit of a mobile junky and have had
lots of different ones in my time. The looks are second to none,
reminds me of the impact the Motorola V3 had in its time. It is
just a lovely looking piece of kit. The accessories and software
are good too, I love the little velvet pouch and the screen cleaner.
It works very well as a plug and play storage device, camera is
good too, if slightly fidly to use. I find texing very good, and
although the buttons are small they are easy to use. The touch sensitive
buttons do take a little ajusting to, but only about 1/2 hr or so.
Screen is stunning, and menu fine.It sits well in ones hand, and
feels good too. I have had no probs with function, so perhaps I
got a good batch, (Bought it SIM free). On the down side the message
tone could do with being louder!! OK so perhaps the storage is a
little low for MP3's, but I use an ipod nano for that, come to think
of it if u like the ipod nano you will love this little fone too.
At the end of the day this is not a smartphone, nor does it claim
to be, so I guess you just have to think what you want, as for me
I like something stunning, that does the job (ie be a phone), and
this, for me, is the best so far...

Theres been many bad reviews about this phone, either "oh the touch
keys are too sensitive" or "it breaks easily". Ok it's fair saying
the keys are too sensitive, but i can assure you it doesn't break,
other people complaining it does, must of had a faulty batch, i've
had mine for a month so far and there hasn't been a single problem
wrong with this phone. Now to actually talk about the phone: I'm
not going to go crazy saying, this phone is brilliant, buy it!!
or this phone is rubbish, im gona say about both parts to this phone.
Positives: As everyone has said the phone is quite possibly one
of the sleekest phones out in th market today, an upcoming rival
to this phone might be the new Samsung E900 though also with Touch
Sensitive keys. The touch keys can sometimes be a tad frustrating
when u accedently call someone as soon as you slide it up (possibly
due to my clumsiness),but they are a lot easier to use and is easy
to navigate through the menu and whatevrer you want to do. The Screen
is easily read and clear even when your out in the sun (not that
its always sunny in the UK). It does come with quite a few Polyphonic
ringtones even though you should stick to having your own mp3 songs
on it, the mp3 player on it is easy to use and quite surprisingly
loud, compared to my friends phone, the sony ericcson w810i the
loudness was about the same. It has all the basic essentials as
to what every phone has these days (i.e bluetooth, wap, video recorder
and camera with flash). Also someone said about the touch keys being
slow, that must of been a faulty phone as it isn't slow at all.
Now for the bad parts: As i said earlier the touch keys can be a
little over sensitive so you might need to get used to it which
i have now so it didn't take that long. To some people the text
font size on the texts may seem a little small, you can change the
text size, but it reverts back to normal after you've sent a text
or gone out of the text, so that can get quite tedious. Most phones
these days have large memory or the flash cards you can put into
them to expand your memory, this doesn't really have either as it
only has about 128mb and can hold about 25-30 songs (a lot more
if you can size them down, which doesn't really affect the quality).
For all those people who love playing games on their mobile when
they're bored this really isn't the phone for you, it only comes
with 1, yes 1 game on it, and it's also sudoko, really fun if you're
into that thing, but not many people are. Also sometimes the camera
can be a little slow taking pictures. So that about sums up the
phone, Make your own mind up what you think about the phone, im
not pressuring you to BUY IT or telling you to AVOID IT, i just
gave the basic details of the phone. So have fun deciding whether
to get it or not and I hope this review helps you a lot. Will

However, looks are certainly deceiving.I personally found this phone
impossible. The touch sensitive front key pad was a nightmare as
it kept ringing people from inside my bag which drained all my credit.
This is also extremel difficult to use, sonehow you would press
touch it to do something and it insisted on doing the opposite.
I also called somebody the morning after I bought it and they could
hear me but i couldn;t her a thing, not even the ring. I found the
menus fair enough to use but the battery life was appalling. I certainly
wouldn't recommend this phone to anybody - and certainly don't buy

it scratches very easily; the alarm won't work if the phone is switched

problem if you "text-speak" though as you can't be bothered to use
proper words let alone punctuation or capital letters ... still
an easy way of communicating if your english is down at "chav-level".
Decide what you want from a phone before you just go and buy what

Yup all you who voted with the one star were absolutely correct.
The only reason I gave it a 1 star was because it looks sleek and
appealing. That's it. Apart from that the memory for the phone,
applications and downloads are rubbish. I suggest that all of you
who want a really good phone should consider buying the motorola
a1200. It's got everything. You have a voice system which reads
back your messages. I got one and you have 3 colours to choose from:black,
white and red with a 512MB mem card.

Wow Sexy or What!... You open the cute box and there in a soft pouch
it is. 10/10 LG what a beautiful design. It takes time getting used
to the touch keys but once you can navigate them you find that all
the functions via the simple menus are easy to activate. If only
had it 2 days so I can not comment on the battery performance. The
3 faults with the phone are: 1. There is No memory slot to increase
media storage. 2. The charging point / headphone socket is tricky.
3. Bluetooth is very slow. But, I love it.

you have a voice message, you can't access the menu unless you retrieve
your voice mail 1st.Its compatability with kits in car is rubbish
- lots of feedback for the person you are calling and business users,

I think this phone puts LG on the map. On the upside the chocolate
has a sleek fairly original design with an inovative function. The
slick black finish is complimented when the pad lights up, i feel
this would have been even better if LG left the silver center piece
off this would only enhance it's mystery. Size and weight, fine,
functions, not high tech but gives a little of everything. On the
down side, can you answer it without opening it? the loudest ring
is still quiet. A good partner in style to my other phone the Nokia

I can't understand why this phone is being marketed as a phone for
music lovers when you can only hold 128mb worth of music and no
way of inserting a memory card. It doesn't make sense! I bought
this phone because I love lg phones and I always listen to music
on my phones so it made sense but I've now changed to a Sony Ericsson
W810 because it holds more tunes (and you can change memory cards)and
it has a radio. Much better value I'd say! If you buy a phone solely
on looks then this is the one for you as it's beautiful but if you
want a PROPER mp3 shop around cos this ain't the best!

Although sometimes frustrating to use, I found that this phone was
just right for me. The camera is brilliant - perfect for taking
pics when your out having a laugh with your mates and the video
is good quality too (however, nothing special). The touch controls
are sometimes annoying, just like an I-pod's, but you get used to
it after a while. The ringtone and text alert volume is very poor,
however this was not a problem for me, as my phone is constantly
on silent. All I need from a phone is an easy keypad for texting

trouble what so ever. its looks absolutely amazing. its a smart
slim design and the touch screen controls give a a stylish and functional
edge over its rivals. the red lighting on black also adds to its
stylish appeal. the battery life isn't great, but hey its a tiny
phone that does an awful lot so its forgiveable. the 1.3 mp flash
camera gives a crisp, clear quality and the functional layout of
the phone makes it a pleasure to use and text with. I was also surprised
(LG being a less established manufactuer) at the outstanding quality
of the materials used, which is something lacking in a majority
of its rivals, especially for such a tiny phone. This alone justifies
its above average price tag. for all those looking for an ulta stylish,

I've just upgraded from the D500 to the Chocolate and can't help
but feel I've made a mistake in not waiting for the E900. The phone
looks very stylish and has certainly impressed all those who I've
flashed it at, the camera quality is much better than the D500 (both
are 1.3m pixels) as is the screen quality but that's as much as
I can boast about the phone. The slide feels fragile, and the oh
so shinny case is a bugger to keep clean even if you keep it in
its little 'gay' bag. The touch sensitive buttons are extremely
sensitive and in the last couple of days I've accidentally called
three people. The T9 txt input is not as easy as Samsung’s.
The speaker is too quiet to hear when the phone is ringing (especially
when an MP3 is set), and there are only 4 choices of message tone's
which are even quieter than the ring tones. It lacks quite a few
features which I've taken as granted with the D500. To summarise:
the phone looks lush but performs poorly and as such its going back.

I have had the LG for around a week now and I am happy with it.
I wanted a small phone that did the basics and I wasn't bothered
about it having a huge memory, flashy camera or video calling etc.
I admit the battery life isn't great but it doesn't bother me as
it's no hassle to charge it. The contact picture thing that someone
else mentioned is annoying at first but who cares?! The phone is
light and small and easy to use. Great for me. The only thing that
is annoying is that the phone does not rescale pics to send like
the Nokias do. So if you take a pic that is over 100kb you cannot
send it via MMS. Also you cannot send video over MMS at all.

I love this phone. No mobile phone is perfect, and while there are
little things about it that bug me (the placement of the side buttons,
the the feather light touch required to operate the control pad,
the proprietary head phone jack), the good def. out weighs the bad.
They're not selling this phone in the US yet, and it was well worth
the money. Mind you, I also have a Motorola Q phone that I use during
the day-it's my smart phone. My day to day needs require that I
have access to all my email accounts and that people be able to
get ahold of me on short notice, but I take my Chocolate with me
at night and on Weekends when it's just about having fun and looking
cute. If you're just looking for a solid sexy phone, this is the

There is no doubt that this phone is very beautiful to look at,
but it has some serious drawbacks as a useful mobile. As others
have noted, the battery life and memory are poor. It is very light,
which is good, but prone to scratching in the same way as an iPod
nano, for example. LG provide a decent quality velvet pouch and
a screen polisher logo/lanyard which is a nice touch to keep the
phone free of smudges - which it gets if you merely exist in the
same room as it. The slide feels very fragile after using a Samsung
D500 for so long. The touch buttons are a nice design, but very
sensitive and one finds oneself going back all the time having brushed
the wrong button. Personally, I found it difficult adjusting to
using the feather-light touch buttons for menu navigation and then
thumping the fairly heavy keypad buttons to write texts. The navigation
interface is well thought out and easy to learn, but there are some
elements that make no sense - for example, associating a photo with
a contact is an absolute trial of frustation and patience (you can
only take new pictures at a tiny 72x72, not load previous photos).
The supplied ringtones are awful, and so are the message tones.
At least you can replace the ringtones with a mp3 - except the phone
randomly forgets that you made an mp3 the ringtone. There are hardly
any wallpapers, but those that are supplied are very stylish. It
is easy to connect the phone to a computer just as a USB drive device
- no software needed. (This applies to Apple Mac users - my MacBook
Pro connected immediately, file transfer is a doddle, but the phone
won't eject cleanly). The organiser/calendar is adequate but nothing
to write home about. It doesn't synchronise with a Mac (nothing
new there then). The documentation is barely adequate and not that
well structured or indexed. To sum up, this is a fashion phone entirely,
not a workaday model. A great one-night stand that your mates might
envy you for, but not marriage material. Pull it out of its velvet
cover once a day to impress, and you'll be laughing. Actually use
it, and you might be disappointed - or it might break - I'll be
interested to see how many of these last the 18 month contracts
most are being sold with. Mine's going back in favour of a Samsung.

have also had no problems with the touch screen or software, of
course there are many other phones on the market with far more gadgets

The LG Chocolate definetely makes 10 out of 10 on its looks and
design, the touch pad and huge screen are great and the way in which
the camera is protected when the slide is closed is very clever
- love the way this delicate phone comes with a cleaner and pouch
for protection!! Simple to use and fast! It's drawbacks are: rubbish
battery life, 4 days max (I have already taken mine back to the
shops and asked for a new battery i was so disappointed!) and would
be even better if it had a memory card in it although the memory
isn't too bad and the camera is great. DONT load the software that
it comes with onto your comp, it crashed mine and it's totally unnecassary
- its still possible to download things onto your phone and upload
thing from your phone onto your comp without the software. All in
all, i love the phone as i am very materialistic an d it really
looks fab! friends are buying it just because its gorgeous! but
if you need a phone with huge memory and better battery life, the

is also a bit poor these days (leave the camera off and charge £100

The LG Chockolate would ahve got 5 stars if 1)The battery performance
was better (4 days at best) and 2)You could use memory cards to
boost the on board 128MB. Still, having previously owned a string
of high spec Nokia and Motorola phones, I'm completely sold on this
LG. The menus structure is excellent, allowing you quick access
to messaging, contacts, profiles and scheduler. In addition to this
a single press of the up arrow gets you a favourites list you can
personalise. This gives fast access to 9 favourite items that you
can set up for whatever you want. The MP3 player is superb quality
even with 64Bit audio. The touch screen works very well, and the
"hidden" screen feature is very sleak. Signal performance is as
excellent. A well built tri-band phone. I'd recommend the LG Chocolate,
