BlackBerry Curve 9300 Review
OK, here's another BlackBerry to add to the mix. RIM
are really churning out new models at a fast rate. The 9300 Curve 3G
is a mid-range model - more expensive than the BlackBerry
8520, cheaper than the BlackBerry
Bold 9700. And its capabilities, unsurprisingly, sit somewhere between
these two models as well.
Physically, the device is almost identical to the 8520.
In fact you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart. The full QWERTY keyboard
isn't as polished as the Bold's, but it certainly beats the alphanumeric
keypad of the Pearl 3G. As the
name suggests, the Curve 3G takes the basic 8520 and adds 3G. Also added
is a GPS receiver with BlackBerry Maps. So, read our review of the 8520
and decide if it's worth paying a little extra for these features. Or,
read our Bold 9700 review and
ask yourself if you should pay more still and get a better camera, a
better display, more memory, a bigger battery and a superior keyboard.
We'd recommend going the whole hog and treating yourself to the Bold
9700, but hey, it's not our money that we're spending!
Features
of the BlackBerry Curve 3G include:
- 2 megapixel camera with video recording
- LCD display: 320 x 240 pixels, 65,000 colours, 2.44
inches
- Media player (Supports MP3, WMA, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+,
MPEG4, WMV9 formats)
- Messaging: email and text messaging, BlackBerry®
Messenger
- Built-in speakerphone
- Hands-free headset capable
- MP3 ringtones / 32 voice polyphonic ringtones /
Vibration alert / LED indicator
- GPS with BlackBerry Maps
- Personal organiser functions
- Internet: Web browser
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, USB, RIM
wireless modem, 3.5mm stereo headset port
- Memory: 256 MByte flash memory plus microSD memory
card slot
- Size: 109 x 60 x 14 mm
- Weight: 104g
- Quadband GSM (1900/1800/900/850 MHz) plus UMTS (2100/1900/850/800
MHz)
- Battery: 1150mAHr removable/rechargeable lithium-ion
cell
- Talktime: 5.5 hours
- Battery standby: up to 450 hours

I upgraded my contract with Orange in 2010 and chose the BlackBerry
9300 as my handset based on the good experience i had with my previous
BlackBerry 8900 handset.
Within 6 months the 9300 trackpad failed and the cursor was static meaning
that menu navigation was impossible, however Orange replaced the handset
for me. 2nd Handset lasted 2 months until the trackpad decided that
it had a mind of its own, where the cursor would wonder all over the
screen and again it was replaced in September 2011. The 3rd handset
has now developed a fault whereby the screen will go blank and display
a clock. To reset the handset requires pulling the battery and rebooting
which has lost my contacts at least twice and re-adding them is time
consuming in itself. The long bootup time results in missed calls due
to being off air. I have upgraded the firmware and the problem persists.
Not to mention the reliability of the BlackBerry services, as most people
aware there was a 4day outage in October, however this was down to RIM
rather than the handset itself. As BlackBerry handsets rely on this
service to access email and the internet the handset is pretty much
useless when this service fails. (and RIM are not exactly competent
when it comes to dealing with problems).
The build quality of the 9300 Curve is nowhere near the standard of
that used in the previous 8900 curve. Plastics feel cheap and nasty
in the hand, however as this is an entry level BB that can be expected.
Camera quality is pretty poor by todays standards as there is no flash.
Applications available to download are also pretty limited.
On a positive note, Battery life is fair, i have managed to get 3 days
in standby when used to access email and make the odd call. Audio quality
during calls is excellent and the email service is instant, providing
those lovely people at RIM have decided that their servers are working
properly.
I have now upgraded to an iPhone 4s as the BB was proving too unreliable.
On the whole, i would recommend that anyone after a QWERTY type handset
looked elsewhere.

This Blackberry is amazing its my first Blackberry and my first impressions
are: Light, Smart, Buisness like, Good looking, great buttons. The new
3G Blackberry 9300 is brilliant you have some dedicated buttons on each
side, avolume rocker, media buttons on the top, full qwerty keyboard,
optical trackpad (better than the trackball),3.5mm headphone jack, Micro
USB port, and a 2.0 megapixel camera. Software include 3G internet, Camera,
Facebook, Twitter,BBM, and app world. Overal this is generally a huge
improvment to the previous 8520 curve model it also has nice metal around
the edge. It is stylish and feels nice it is not to big or to small
just right perfect for teens/ buisness men/women. If you are looking
for a 'mid' class smartphone this is right for you Ideally you want
it on contract to make the 3G and BBM work otherwise PAYG customers
lose some features. The people who keep saying this phone is bad they
have no clue as to what they are talking about this phone does not wear
out its just for this handfull of users who are very critical about
things so are picking every little bit. If you find it gets scratched
buy a case/cover this will protect it and most cases lie between 10
and 30 pounds.
Enjoy this phone you did a good thing buying it :)

Freezing is only bugbear. Keep your apps down and its better. Wish mem
card could be used to store apps. Turn GPS off and use Wifi at home.
Certain themes slow down the OS, so trial and error is needed. However
the keypad is great, internet fast for me, battery life decent and its
small and light. BBM great. Would never go back to other brands now!
Had a Bold which was fab, but more than happy with this! Fine tuning
is all thats needed for most users.

Some of you obviously aren't treating your blackberry well enough if
it constantly is dented and scratched. The internet is slow? Go invest

Except for the poor camera, oh well it is a phone I am not going to

Very poor piece of kit after a decent amount of time being used. The
phone freezes, randomly goes into reboot, camera is poor, battery life
is absoluetly terrible, the buttons around the phone tend to wear out
and rip/make dents, slows done alot, drops signal, must charge atleast
twice a day to keep it going. Its the first blackberry i ever bought,
but dont get me wrong. i was verry happy with it when i first got it,
but since ive used it for sometime now, its become a horrible thing
to use. The battery literally lasts 6 hours, before having to charge
it. i wouldnt recomend this phone. You should go for the 9700/9900/9360

I wrote a review for this phone 11 months ago and gave it a 5 star rating,
however since I have had a good years worth of usage I thought I would
come and review it again. I am no longer in love with this phone and
can't wait until I can upgrade to something worthwhile and better value
for money. Ok here are my numerous problems, when using browser, cannot
connect, connection error or more commonly this page is too large to
load, or close tabs, arghhhhh. Since installing the os6 the phone runs
so much slower, before on os5 it was instant, now i am lucky if it connects
at all. When out an about, it very rarely loads up websites, I usually
have to go via planet 3 and use the Google search on that to successfully
get online. Since some update I also lost my browser button, and never
got it back. I am also fed up of each time you download an app the phone
needs rebooting, you delete an app the phone needs rebooting, it becomes
sluggish, the phone needs rebooting. And worse of all the battery life
is completely rubbish I am lucky if i get a day and a half out of it,
and that happens once in a blue moon, if I get no calls and no texts
an don't check Facebook. The Facebook app is annoying, if you scroll
down and don't stop when it says loading new feeds, it will re-show
the posts that you have viewed already, if someone posts a large post
and you try scrolling down, it keeps bouncing back to top of post and
since the browser hardly works, very hit an miss, more so miss, I can't
guarantee that I can do that. The camera is totally rubbish and no flash.
Avoid this phone, its not worth the money, and although I love how blackberry's
work, I am not getting another one. Folk keep saying should get the
bold, why, it works in exactly the same way and has almost the same
features. DO NOT BUY!!!

I'm going to give an honest review on this blackberry as I don't like
biased reviews. I got my blackberry for christmas + ever since I got
it I've been addicted to it because I like the feel of the qwerty keyboard
as its easy to use. However, the keys are rather small + sometimes they're
difficult to text with. If not then you're lucky but if you get any
blackberry you will most likely experience slowness on your device,
I've experience such slowness that I decided to remove the battery from
the device + restart the device. You have to have a lot of patience
at times. The general social networking apps like facebook, twitter
etc are good to be able to use on your device. However the internet
can be very slow at times depending on your signal. I'd love app world
to have a wider variety of better apps to choose from but you will definitely
find some apps which will interest you + you'll end up downloading them
which does take a long while depending on how much MB the app is tak
ing up. There are so many feautures to use on this blackberry eg. Voice
command, maps, copying + pasting, blackberry messenger but I'd advise
you to do research on the internet to find out more about that. The
camera isn't great as its only 2 mega pixels but its decent, if you're
the type who loves a good quality camera + is into a lot of photographer
then say "bye!" to the idea of buying this device :) anyway, overall
I do like my blackberry a lot even though it has its downfalls.

to get the 9300 curve for the 3g features! what a useless bag of rubbish
it is, iv had it a little over 4 months and hate it, now looking at
an Iphone 4, lack of space on the handset for storing apps, god forbid
it u have more then 4 apps and it will lock down and freeze, takes about
an hour to boot up if i do a total shutdown! very poor signal even with
the UMA Signal booster, cant even get a 3g Signal stood next to an orange
phone mast! track pad has mind of it own, along with it sending texts
of its own accord! camera is pants and in comparison to my neices 2mega
pix camera it does not even come close, its more like a VGA, bbm is
good when it works! app world never shows updates for apps. media buttons
on the top dont work even after setting them up! the one good thing
about it is the battery cover unlike the 8520 the bb logo doesnt unstick
peel off n leave the back of ur phone sticky! oh and thats another point
it does not work as a phone, my husband stood in front of me and rang
me with my phone switched on in my hand, on loud and it went straight
to voicemail! this phone is seriously a waste of money! oh and the charger
does not conform to british standards, it holds no BS Number which is
in fact technically illegal, but they get thru the loophole by saying
it is a travel charger!

I've had this phone for a year now and feel I'm well qualified to comment
on it. Overall I'm very pleased with it. The good points are that the
interface is easy-to-use: you don't need to be an expert in technology
to use it and it's fairly intuitive. BBM (messenger) is also great to
use (when it's working). The phone is quite light (compared to the iPhone)
and protective carry cases are cheap to buy and afford good protection
to the screen. But the phone is not without fault. The battery life
is OK but not perfect; spend a couple of hours texting or BBM'ing and
you'll drain half the battery. My other main problem is that the 3G
is unpredictable and the processor speed is woeful. More often than
not the phone freezes when trying to load a web page with too much "rich
content". It works better when I'm logged in to a wi-fi hotspot or my
broadband, but it's far from perfect. On the whole it's a good phone
that does what I need for the price I'm willing to pay.

even better, again camera quality is poor, but i don't buy my phone
for it's camera. The new OS is fantastic runs nice and smooth not had
a single problem so far. I saw a lot of people complain about poor battery
life, golden rule for any new tech is, leave it switched off and charge
for 16 hours, doing this will boost the life of your battery. A person
complained about it having no manual, this is because the manual is
built into the phone and starts teaching you from the second you switch
on. So yes no complaints here, take your time, if your not sure use
the built in manual and you shouldn't have a problem.

I have now had the blackberry curve 3G 9300 for about 2 months and its
fine apart from the battery and the 2 mega camera but wherever you go
the phone has 3G and the browser is fast nut if you have only like 100
mb internet then it wont be as fast but if you buy 500 mb internet it
will be good and fast just remember not to download too many apps or
the phone will go slower.

First time Blackberry user after (sadly) laying to rest my faithful
Nokia E71. I was attracted by the 9300 price and specifications but
somewhat leery of the build-quality. After a week, I am still of the
same mind. I love the connectivity and features but it still feels a
bit cheap to me. Until it proves otherwise, however, I am very impressed
with this little phone.

STOP DO NOT BYE.......!!! Never worked from the start and now on my
3rd blackberry 3G Curve!! Problems included scrolling not scrolling
properly, freezing then going crazy after frozen ie calling people and
other stuff. 85% of web sites are to big for the phone to load. Then
sometimes the screen will just go white and will have to take the battery
out and start the phone back up again when this happens. The centre
button will just stop working so you have to keep taking the battery
out till it starts again. Before this phone I had the normal blackberry
black curve and it was much better with next to no problems at all,
And for about £60 cheaper So my advice wood be either get the cheaper
normal blackberry curve or like they suggest if you can offered it get
the bold. But please don't waste your hard earned money on this phone.
Worst phone I have ever used. Richard

The phone is actually very good. It does everything it says it would
do. People keep complaining that it just won't stop ringing or buzzing.
Well... That's the purpose of this phone. It's supposed to keep you
connected. If you just want to make calls and send sms, get a cheap
phone that does that. If you want to stay connected anywhere and anytime,
get one of these wonderful BBs. If you want a better camera, get a digital
camera. This is a phone to stay connected to friends, family and workmates.
If you want a better media player, get a media player. If you're having
problems downloading apps, check your internet mobile internet connection.
If you're having problems using this phone, perhaps you should have
researched before buying this. If you don't want to use the office tools
this has, take them out. Stop complaining about how difficult or inefficient
the phone is. The phone is a tool and this phone is one heck of a tool.
A tool is only as good as the user. Have any of you heard this saying?
Artificial intelligence is nothing compared to natural stupidity. Something
to ponder on, yes?

This is my second blackberry (did have the 8520) and i adore this phone!
OS6 confused me at first but now its like second nature? All you people
that say 'they break so easy' well yes, you drop it and it'll break?
Bbm / internet / texts run smoother on this phone than the old curve.
3G never cuts out like SOME phones signal. You can use internet / bbm
on the phone which is nice to have. Also people complain it doesn't
shut up? Well im 21 and yes, it doesn't. But that's why we buy blackberrys?
For the range in software and for the many ways to stay in contact with
people! If you like blackberrys buy this phone! I love it :)

Does basics well (text/email etc.) but seems old fashioned already.
Poor camera, battery life, social networking stuff is a bit clunky compared
to other cheaper phones. Have to remove battery and re-boot sometimes
to make a call as phone goes 3g/gprs whatever depending what mood it's
in. The business apps are very cute but don't know anyone who has ever
had to amend a ppt/excel/word file via a phone. Just blowing smoke for
people with an elevated sense of self importance who couldn't get past
level 3 on brickbreaker. Also, wifi is very hit and miss and doesn't
flag up as on (when it is) and vice-versa. Be careful abroad. 10 months
left on this contract then I'll see what's about. Apart from the instant
email/bbm it hasn't got anything. Amazed other companies don't do this
then it's dead in the water. Great, depending on what you want it for,
but very limited.

Bought the blackberry 9300 curve about 3 months ago, love the qwerty
keyboard. Good little fone, does alot, wish it had applications like
the android does. Its slim, cool looking, and one of the best phones
i have had. Only downside, battery doesnt last long, charging required
like every 27 hrs, sometimes earlier. Good phone to have though apart
from that battery problem, then the tech just gets better.

I had a company blackberry a few years ago and so was a bit apprehensive
about buying buying a 9300 as it I thought it would be a 'budget' standard
but I am very impressed with it. I read reviews about how to upgrade
to latest operating system OS6 and so was ready to do this but if you
buy recent stock it already has OS6 now so no need. OS6 is much better
than older software. Phone features are great, battery life even better
than anticipated. It only cost £12.99 (with free phone)with loads of
mins and texts and free email and messenger. Bargain. Superb purchase.

thought of selling to a mobile phone recycle company albehit for less
than I paid for it. I had in the meantime bought a Nokia 7320 (why I
don't know just seemed a value non BB phone) Well, I regreted buying
it and thought twice of selling my BB and after using my BB for a few
weeks, I realised it is the best phone I have ever had lol. Lovely phone
:) Although camera is a bit basic at 2MP, it's not end of the world
as I have a digital cam for taking pics. The BB cam is a substitute
if I am out and about and I want to 'capture the moment' and I don't
have my camera with me. The music player on it is fantastic! I have
an ipod but, haven't listened to it since I bought my BB. Can't go far
wrong with this phone. Never ceases to amaze me. Would be very happy

you i got a bb because everyone i spoke to said they were good. I did
agree they were good that was until recently it has started playing
up. I find it hard to send bbm messages (its quite slow/delayed). and
sometimes my 'B' key gets stuck. I still have well over a year till
my contract ends and can not cope with this phone much longer, so i
am resorting to selling it and buying a pay as you go phone till my

email is great all the features work well (not tried sat nav yet)and
the build quality is outstanding, now the battery yes i won't lie its
not good, you get a day heavy usage out of it but hey you spend most
of your nights in a house so whats wrong with charging it every night?
low usage you would get probably 2 days or 3 pushing it, remember it
is connecting to the network at all time so if you want good battery
disable these features. I still give the phone 5 stars because it is
not over priced, everything seems to run very well and the os is best

really) it wouldnt accept my password and after the allocated 3 tries
the phone wiped all the data clear on my sim and memory. Although this

however the phone has been running great again. I also had a lot of
