In a nutshell: The iPhone 3G S is easily the best iPhone
ever. Apple have filled in the missing pieces of the jigsaw and
created possibly the best phone / media player / internet device
ever. Highlights include GPS navigation with a digital compass,
OS X applications from the App Store, super fast web browsing, Apple's
famous music-playing capabilities, up to 32 GB of built-in memory,
and Wi-Fi. The only real problem is the price. Best buy: *Free* on contract from Mobiles.co.uk

Review:
June 2009. Last updated January 2010.
The latest iPhone - the iPhone 3G S - launched
in the UK on June 19th 2009 on O2, and is now available on Orange
and Vodafone too. It is available from free on contract, although
you'll have to pay £35 per month for the basic 16GB version.
The iPhone 3GS adds features like a video camera, voice control
and a digital compass. The camera has been upgraded to 3 megapixels
with autofocus. Battery life has been improved and applications
run faster. And, set your eyebrows to "shocked"
because you can now copy and paste text, and forward messages. It
looks like Apple have now managed to fill in the missing pieces
of the jigsaw and produce a phone that can really deliver on its
promise.
There was never any doubt about the basic platform
on which the iPhone is built. The original iPhone set the benchmark
for touchscreen phones, and the iPhone 3G S is arguably still the
best touchscreen-driven phone on the market, in terms of usability.
What was lacking in the first two generations of iPhone was the
featureset that power users expect from a modern phone. Now, with
the 3G S, we can say that there is nothing missing and that the
latest iPhone can match any smartphone on the market. That's not
to say that it's the best in every department. The camera is still
relatively basic when compared to the 8 megapixel camera with xenon
flash on the Sony Ericsson C905
for instance. And the HTC Touch HD
has a much higher resolution screen. Etc, etc. The point is that
the perfect phone doesn't exist - will never exist - and as buyers
we have to weigh up the options and choose the one that seems to
meet our most important needs. In the past, the iPhone often failed
to meet quite basic needs, and had to be excluded from the shortlist,
but now it does enough to be considered a real player.
First off, there can be no doubting the sheer style,
ease-of-use and fun that the iPhone 3G S delivers. It's such a slim,
tactile, good-looking phone with such gorgeous graphics that we
want to just kiss it - phwa! The iPhone delivers on its promise
to replace three devices with one. One - it works brilliantly as
a phone, and once you've started touching your friends' names in
the contacts list to make a call, you'll never want to go back to
a conventional phone. Two - it replaces your iPod, obviously, no
contest. Three - it's definitely one of the top mobile internet
devices around, with the wonderful Safari web browser and the easy
scrolling and zooming of full web pages, displayed in all their
glory. It's also brilliant at email. But the iPhone has more than
this. It also has the App Store, which is now a mature library of
thousands of applications, many of which you can download for free.
Whether you want to play games, access Facebook, edit your photos
or plan your finances, you can probably find an app that does what
you want.
The camera is a considerable improvement on the
previous iPhone. It's now up to 3 megapixels and crucially has autofocus.
This works really well in fact - you just tap the screen to tell
the camera where you want to focus - quite a brilliant innovation
we think. Although the camera can't match most similarly-priced
smartphones, it's probably good enough for 90% of users. The video
camera isn't bad either, with a respectable VGA resolution and up
to 30 frames per second.
The GPS system has been upgraded, with a digital
compass added, which is very handy. There are other improvements
across the board, such as enhanced YouTube support, voice memos
and voice support, and faster apps. All these improvements make
a big difference in fact.
We think that Apple have finally made a device
that ticks nearly every box. The iPhone works well as a phone, brilliantly
as a media player and portable internet device, and perhaps most
of all as a portable mini computer internet games music camera thingy
that is so good it's virtually a must-have. Once you have it, you'll
ask yourself how you ever lived without it. The only problem is
the price. Although it's the best value iPhone yet, it's still very
expensive, and you'd be silly not to consider what else you can
buy for this kind of money. Options include the Nokia
N97, Samsung Omnia 2
or HTC Hero. The bottom line is that
if you have this kind of money to spend, you're really spoiled for
choice.
Features
of the Apple iPhone 3GS include:
OS X Operating System
Assisted GPS with digital compass
3 megapixel camera with autofocus
Video camera (VGA, 30 frames per second)
Display: 480 x 320 pixels (3.5 inch) touchscreen
Music player (AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR,
Audible (formats 1, 2, and 3), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV formats)

The iPhone is probably the best phone I have owned. Yes there may
be functions missing like Bluetooth or not the best camera but for
me I can live without Bluetooth (didn't use it much anyway) and
if i do i can easily email it. If I need 'proper' pictures I'll
use my SLR camera. I love the design of the device and how user
friendly it is. Everything just works. When planning on getting
the phone I made sure my contacts and iTunes were in order on my
computer (iMac), this saved me a lot of time as when I connected
it for the first time everything (I selected) synced across effortly.
This also included my playlists, photos, calendar entries, ringtones,
podcasts and selected email accounts using Apple Mail. Adding accounts
like hotmail/yahoo/gmail was simple enough. The amount of avaialble
applications is impressive and has many categories; business, games,
social network sites, etc. I mainly use the free apps which are
sometimes stand alone applications or cut down versions of the paid
one. I bought a fitness app which I use to log my progress and display
charts. You can also create your own routines. The Internet experience
is like being on a computer. Navigation is fluid and easy to control.
Also my bookmarks from Safari were also carried across in the sync.
The battery life is something to be aware of simply because of what
it can do. Excellent responsive touchscreen, WIFI, GPS, push email,
etc something has to be give. Personally I just turn off what I
don't need. Simple. The supplied handsfree is very clear. My wife
has said she cannot hear any background noise, even when i'm driving
with the window down! The voice dialling is good too, you can either
say the contacts name or read out the number to dial. The keyboard
for some may take some practice but when you use it every five minutes
to check your emails/facebook/etc you will see your speed and accuracy
improve. The in built dictionary is helpful and learns what you
type. This review was written on the iPhone. In conclusion I am
very happy with this phone and would have regretted getting a Blackberry
just for messenger. This phone has more going for it and due to
it's design could have a whole new interface in one OS upgrade!

My initial joy at this gorgeous sexy looking little phone is rapidly
turning to despair. I've had it a week and am SO fed up with the
battery life. It goes from 100% to 80% in about 2 hours and if I
make a couple of calls and send a couple of texts I'm completely
out of battery within about 6 hours. I then charge it and its showing
100% again within the hour only for it to happen all over again.
The other problem is that each time its out of battery I have to
put the sim lock code in and it doesn't recognise it so I've had
to call twice in the last 4 days for my PUK code at which point
I re-enter my sim code only for it not to recognise it next time
the phone dies. Texting with the keyboard isn't quick compared to
non touch phones and scrolling through contacts is awful is it goes
too quickly and whizzes past some entirely. Am about to call O2
to see what they have to say but I'm currently bracing myself to
send it back before my 2 week trial period is up. There is no doubt
that this phone is gorgeous and the bits that work are great but
the battery life is a huge problem for me. Anyone else having this

I have had my iphone for 3 weeks and, like most people here, I do
love it. However, I am off to the Apple Store this week as it keeps
locking up! It freezes completely and the screen just shows the
power cord and the itunes pic. I know that this means that it needs
'synching' but, connecting to itunes only brings up a message that
there is a fault. I have to say that both O2 and Carphone have said
that they will replace it but............ they have no stocks! I
am hoping that Apple can sort out the software problem and that
I can have my iphone back and working as I have been without it
for a week now and am using my old Omnia, which feels awful by comparison.

I have had this phone for a week now and it is nothing short of
fantastic. Can I say was happy with my LG Viewty and was going to
upgrade to and LG Viewty Smart, until I played around with my friend's
brand new iphone 3GS and couldn't put it down then I just had to
have it. It is by a mile, the best phone I have ever had and by
far and way the best phone on the market. It doesn't come with a
complicated book of instructions, everything is easy to install
from itunes. The speed at which you can get on the internet and
the clarity of the screen is impressive. It is smooth and sleek
and everything is touch screen driven, the applications are a fantastic
added function, if you like games on your hand set you are spoilt
for choice, most are free from the apps store. Texting is a breeze,
the qwerty keyboard is much easier to get used to than I thought,
because I like predictive text messaging. Although the camera is
3.2 mpx it takes really good photos and even better pictures than
my LG Viewty which was a 5mpx camera. The video which I understand
is new to the iphone has amazing clarity. Depending on what you
are looking for on a phone, I don't think you can get a better gadget
phone anywhere and no other phone can do all of the things the iphone
does - it is not in the slightest bit overrated. It is like having
a mini computer designed from outer space in your pocket. For those
who live in the London area and desperate to get their hands on
an iphone and are being told by the O2 shops that they are out of
stock on the 16g phones (the same online too), if you can get to
the Apple store in Regent street, they are not out of stock and
can upgrade or get you a new O2 contract in store. If you are wavering
and have thought like I did that the iphone is an expensive gimmick,
waver no more – just get it, you won't regret it. Rating:

I've had my iphone for about a month now, and think it's the greatest
thing since sliced bread. The apps are cool, but I also love the
email features, contact management features, the camera isn't the
greatest but it's good enough for me, and the voicemail system is
amazing (you really want to check that out btw). Now, it's true
that the battery life appears to be short, but I believe there's
a very good reason for that: Normally , when you have a regular
phone, you pretty much only use it to, well, make phone calls and
text people, with the occasional go on crappy built in games (Snake
II, looool). But the iphone is one of those devices you can't help
but touch, play with, all the time, more than any other phone. hence
the battery life problems. Another thing I've noticed is that some
people who have an iphone and don't like it actually haven't managed
to configure it properly. Of course it's a useless waste of space
and money if you only use it for phone calls! but if you spend 5
minutes figuring out what it can do... well, you won't be able to
live without it. Finally, every single time I hear someone moaning
about the iphone, it's always someone who's never used one. But
even my most hardcore anti-apple friends have all spent ages on
my phone playing this and that, or just being amazed at the slick,
smooth, fast yet simple and intuitive interface. Yes, there are
phones that, on paper have better specs (N97) or better battery
life, and that are cheaper, or more geared towards business (Blackberries)
than the iphone, but none, and i really mean NONE can do what what
an iphone does as well as it does it. None has the wealth of apps
available and none can pretend to have an OS as slick and functionnal.
Anyway, if you don't like the iphone, good for you! you can get
a lovely buggy brick of a Nokia N97, nice and clunky, for free!

I am very disappointed with the battery life, which seems to last
an average 5-7 hours normal useage - and that's with 3G, WIFI and
location services turned off. My other biggest critisism is the
inability to customise. There is no way of changing the ringtones,
not even to mp3s and no way of making the menu system look different.
The camera is appauling, even though it's now 3mpx. The slightest
moving with the hand, and you end up with a blurred picture. Voice
control never seems to work for me or my family - and I wouldn't
say I have much of a local accent/dialect. I am impressed with the

Having had my iPhone 3GS for a while now, it's probably a good time
to write another review, to see if anything's changed. To be honest,
something has changed; I love this phone even more! Ok, the basics
remain unchanged. It's just the apps I download which amaze me more
and more. You could spend a lifetime exploring the app store...
The phone itself is great; there's been no slowdown or crashing
as I've loaded more apps and saved more data. There's been no overheating
either. Battery life is ok; I tend to charge it overnight each night
to make sure it sees me through the next day. But as I simply plug
it into the charger on my bedside table, where's the hardship in
that? I've found O2 to be a much better carrier than Vodafone (my
last network). Where I live - to the West of London - I get much

When I was getting my iPhone, I was very excited and couldn't wait
for it to arrive. When it came though, it was a disappointment.
Once you get past the novelty of having apps, the phone is downright
poor. Apart from apps, the iPhone has nothing going for it, especially
given the extremely high price. I feel thoroughly ripped off, and
wish I had gone for something like the HTC Magic. For such a high
price I would expect to get top-notch features, but they give you
a frankly rubbish camera and its locked down so much - I can't use
a different computer to put music on, as I didn't activate it with
that computer. The iPhone takes an age to get online, and the battery
life dies in less than a day if you dare to use an app or make a
call. The only Apple are good at is marketing - but don't fall into
their spell as I had, and make a bad decision. Looking back, I wish
I had gone for something Android like the upcoming Samsung i7500
or the HTC Magic. Just avoid the iPhone at any cost. Rating:

My dad has an iphone 3g s, which i have used and am getting mine
tomorrow, so i thought i'd give my thoughts. The Iphone is for a
target audience, someone who wants a simplistic, stylish and easy
to use phone, its more of a piece of art than a gadget phone, if
you like design and the touch screen, great web browsing, un matched
music playing, and a very fun phone and dont mind going without
all the bells and whistles which are on some of the gadget phones,
then this is the phone for you. Like i said, its not a James Bond
phone with heat seaking missiles and a lazer comming out through
the camera lens, but it excells in touch screen, web browsing, music
and the aesthetics. This phone is for the people who want something
that looks and is special and are prepared to spend the amount of
money in comparison with other phones on the current market, a reason
i beleive some dont rate this phone so highly is because the iphone
isnt intended for them, they expect all the gadgets when this phone
isnt intented to be a gadget phone. Though it may not have some
features like a great camera, it has many innovative features which
the other "gadget phones" dont have, so even though there is the
arguement that it doesnt have certain things, on the other hand,
it was some other things which other phones dont have. To put it
bluntly, dont get this phone if you want all the gadgets... But
get this phone if you want something special and are happy with
whats on it. Rating:

After much anticipation about what phone to choose, ether a Blackberry
curve or the new iPhone 3GS I settled with the new iPhone, and after
a week with the phone i couldn't believe i even considered a Blackberry.
With countless of my friends all owning BB curves, i can easily
judge the speed differences between the phones, the 3GS doesn't
just run quicker that the curve, it blitz's them in every aspect
of use. The original iPhone, did have a few draw backs, but since
the new updates (My favorite being the ability to now flip the phone
on its side for a larger keyboard when writing texts) has made it
the best phone you could want to own. Some people on here have mentioned
bad battery life, but in my case the 3GS will easily run over 48
hours with internet and gaming use. I even saw a review on here
saying the BB storm's touch screen was better than the iphone's!
My boss is forever moaning about the touch screen on his storm,
but that could just be his experience. All in all, after just over
a month, i have yet to say a bad word about my new iPhone, and would
happily recommend it to anyone. Rating:

I don't know what phone you're reviewing when talking about the
iphone 32GS. But it's certainly a different one from the one I'm
using and you've certainly not worked it for any length of time.
It's purely for geeks. It's far too temperamental. A bloody pain
to text with. One wrong move and it's off into another application.
Takes an age to go online when compared to my girlfriend's Nokia
E71 and you're forever pressing the wrong letter when typing or
looking for contacts. What idiot dreamt up letters that tiny?. It's
battery life, if you can call it that,is the pits, and it won't
start up direct from the mains when you've lost a call through low
battery life. Make no mistake this battery lasts no longer than
3 hours tops with minimal use. Also, it's now being targetted by
hackers who are succeeding in wiping out all the applications via
sending you a rogue text. In a word! It's Rubbish! It's forever
wanting to copy and paste when attempting to re-read your texts,
and doesn't move up and down the text without displaying all sorts
of unwanted requests. Beware! This phone has not filled in the blanks,
as you call them, it's created and left behind an awfull lot more
and shown that smart touch phones are no where near the finished
artical yet. Blacberry's Storm click screen is streets ahead of
Apple's over-sensitive touch screen. I'm off to get a proper key
board back, Nokia or Blackberry here I come, again. Rating:

I ordered my phone from the O2 website on a thursday, and had it
in my hands on Saturday morning - I've not been able to put it down
since! I was a little reluctant to switch to another provider after
only ever being with Vodafone. I haven't found any negatives with
the phone or O2 yet. Some things have taken a bit of getting used
to, and looking up (I couldn't work out how to zoom in on a webpage
but realised I was being a bit dim!). I find the camera perfectly
sufficient for taking snapshots. I downloaded a free zoom app too
which works well. Be warned - you can spend hours looking at all
the apps that are available! This is one of the aspects I love with
the iphone - on previous phone's I've had a game costs £3-5, but
you can download loads free for the iphone. I'm usually a 'size

the iphone screen for viewing films, web etc is fantastic. I'd also

This is a great phone and deserves five stars but.... I do think
there are a few weaknesses even though it is better than the competition...
firstly the camera at 3mega pixel is fairly poor... remember on
a two year contract you will be stuck with it for ages when a better
iPhone (with better camera comes out). People say this is no small
thing but what about video quality. What about the ability to digitally
zoom in and not lose too much quality. The whole point of this device
is to serve all purposes but the camera one it has failed at miserably.
So I think I will wait until a 5 megapixel iPhone comes out. Only
ten more months to go. Rating:

hour-long calls with it. I do use internet via 3G frequently adn

It's very rare that I'll write a review or even voice an opinion
on a phone I don't have let alone one I don't intend to get but,
here goes: I am one of those people that has spent collectively,
hours on the iPhone in both 02 and The Carphone Warehouse, I've
spent more hours playing with and investigating friends and colleagues
iPhones and have come to the opinion that, as brilliant as the iPhone
is, it has serious limitations. The camera, in this day and age,
on a £500+ phone, the best they can manage is three megapix..? Ditto
the limitations on the video facility. YouTube: I tried turning
up the volume but (and forgive me if I've missed something here)
the +/- button on the side only fast forwarded the video I was watching,
there appeared to be no 'in house' way of turning up the volume,
why not..? I don't want to fast forward the video, I want to watch
it, that's why I chose to view it, I want to hear it. The pricing
plan: 2 years is a lifetime in technological terminology but it
gives Apple plenty of time to hold you on a tether until the next
iPhone comes out. The apps: brilliant, simply brilliant but if I
want to find a good restaurant or such, I'll ask Google thanks.
How long can the games justify the pricing plan? The problem for
me is the iPhone just isn't grown up enough for me. Don't get me
wrong, it's still brilliant at what it does, the UI is one of the
best and I don't want to put down anyone that got one but before
you buy, try looking at (say...) the HTC Hero reviews or reading
up on the soon the be Sony Idou. And yes, this is only my opinon. Rating:

I was very sceptical about the iPhone for a long time - lack of
basic features, cost, could I cope with a touch screen, would it
be better than my current Nseries phone - the usual stuff that people
seem to go on about. Well here I am writing this review on my shiny
new iPhone 3gs and I can safely say I absoluetly love it. First
of all let's get the only major issue out of the way - the camera.
Whilst I'll never be the next Ansell Adams using my iPhone, it does
take decent enough point and click pictures. Sure there's no flash,
but hey, apple have gotta leave something for next year. Now the
best thing about this phone - OS X. What an absolute joy to use.
My old nokia n82 is really slow and clunky in comparison. On the
iPhone everything opens up as soon as you touch the screen. Honestly,
it feels like I could have gone an made a cup of tea whilst waiting
for things to open up when using the symbian based n82. The iPhone
is just so responsive and smooth. I haven't put it down since I
got it home. It's just that much of a joy to use. Typing on the
qwerty touchscreen is easy, especially as the iPhone automatically
corrects around 80% of the typos making. I simply don't care that
the iPhone doesn't have the latest and greatest camera or whatever
other criticisms are thrown at it, it's just so easy to use. It
really is a thing of beauty. I've never owned an apple product before,
so I can hardly be called a fanboy, but honestly I will never go
back to the clunky, unreliable, bug ridden phones of other manufacturers.
My last nokia was completely unusable until nokia released updated
firmware for it about three weeks after I bought it. The iPhone
just works, straight put of the box, no fuss, no frustration. The
other manufacturers could learn a massive lesson from apple in terms
of their build quality and attention to detail. Internet is a joy
to use, so quick and easy. Gps works perfectly and is far more reliable
than my n82. The iPod function blows all other media players Out
of the water (although SEs Walkman phones are pretty good). The
app store really does have an app for everything.Battery is as good
if not better than my n82 which needed charging everyday, but I
am a heavy Internet/wifi user. I am tied down to o2 for the next
24 months, but I've never has a problem with them for the last 3
years, and this review os about the phone, not the network. Bottom
line is, I love it and will be recommending above all other phones
to anyone who asks me. 5 stars simply isn't enough. thosbpjone is
how things should be done. Take note nokia, se, samsung, lg, motorola,
blackberry because this iPhone is a masterclass in design and usability! Rating:

I think the problem for all other phone manufacturers is the software
hardware combination its a balance, Apple have been making Operating
systems for more than 20 years at the same time crafting their hardware
and software to a symbiotic end. All the rest wrestle with phones
that look good, seem to be better and offer more but only on the
TV commercials. I have tried a fair few of the new batch of touch
screens and to be honest if they worked Apple would have cause for
concern, as it stands they don't.. not a good reason for not bringing
out upgrades more frequently though. Nokia... seem to be on the
right track only if you have a pocket big enough to house the power
station you will need to power it. Not good if you are on a power
card..lol if their phones get any bigger or heavier they will be
unusable, the new N97 gets hot for some reason while in use. Not
good and the Os stalls. That was in the showroom as well. The 5800
xpress music was quite the thing until the interface stalled and
a week later the touch screen went non responsive, Samsung seem
to have wigged out and lost the plot, so what if it doesn’t
work it does new flashy things for about a day then doesn’t,
LG an interesting paperweight it turned out to be until it went
back, Sony Eriksson, well if these guys were building my house it
would fall down a day after completion they have a build quality
and usability that is appalling. I bought my daughter one; it fell
apart while she was leaving the store and had to go back for repair.
got it back a week or so later since then 2 months ago the back
fell off the front panel dropped off and it dials out for no explicable
reason without being asked. With the majority of phones its where
it was made that depends on the build quality, they try to pack
in so much they require a power station to run them and the OS is
seldom compatible with the hardware. This is what makes the Apple
iPhone so good a good balance of both with good quality control
but a slightly annoying price tag. One has to consider is it worth
the price or rental+ insurance which you will really need. Its not
one to haul out on the bus put it that way. Although I have been
superficial with most of the phones its no more than anyone would
do in normal use, we tap them fiddle about with them sit on them
occasionally, drop them.. And find other uses for them. but they
have to be made to withstand every day use and be ready for use
when we need them to be. something that many makers are forgetting,
some now need such delicate handling or charge time that they can
no longer be considered a mobile phone or they are now so large
and heavy that they qualify for a mobility allowance. And so complex
to use that you have to ask the muggers to wait for 10 min while
you call the police and could they hold up the Manuel to the light.
So I think the iPhone gets the full 5 stars, its definitely the
best of all compromises. Rating:

supports push email,on a trial period, send and receive are fine,
though you can't read the attachment, and when sending a picture

so you have to get the picture id, then trawl through the phone

You know what, I almost, very nearly, fell for it. After questioning
your review of the first iphone (which you very decently modified
after all the complaints) I thought the new iphone might finally
be the one for me. Oops. No. My girl friend bought one and in many
ways she loves it. But after two weeks the flaws are coming through.
Battery life is hopeless if you are travelling. Heavy internet or
music use renders it senseless after just a few hours. No good if
you on the road and nowhere near a mains power socket. The camera
is still poor to average and now -today - the dreaded 'screen of
death' - kicked in (or out depending on how you look at it). She
looked at it for several minutes in despair when it turned to black
and then white, and then nothing. A bug that rendered her phone
useless and left her scrambling to find the nearest computer to
Google for help. She discovered within minutes that she is not alone.
Why oh why do Apple do this? Great product, great design, pushing
back the barriers - but rushing out new toys that haven't been properly
road tested or with niggles that undermine the concept. End result
for me is that I won't be buying one after all. It's back to a Nokia
upgrade for another year. Next time, I hope, maybe in 18 months,
the Mac available at that time will be the one I have been waiting

been using the iphone 3g s for over 2 weeks now and I have not encountered
the problem of overheating. The battery life barely takes me throughout
the day, but who cares? I am a heavy user. I love the video player,
wifi and the camera features of the iphone. Moreover the stanza
application makes me to read a whole lots of ebooks. The reason
why I am so much in love with the iphone 3g s is because the interface
is fluid. THe best ever. VEry responsive. Hardly any lag. Delay
in launching any application or browsing its contents is virtually
imperceptible. Nokia N97 cannot compare. Palm Pre is only an imitation,
trying to pose as an iphone on itunes. But thank God that apple

This is my first iPhone, I've always been a bit anti iPhone but
when I did a list of what I wanted from a phone with mobile Internet
at the top of the list the iPhone seemed to be the answer & when
the 3g s came out I had no choice but to get one & it's the best
phone I've ever had. Don't get me wrong I don't think the iPhone
is perfect (but what phone is?) but what it does do makes up for
what it doesn't do. For example it's daft that I can't go to a song
on the phone & set it as a ringtone, there is a way around this
which you can find on the net which when you know what you're doing
only takes a couple of minutes. Also not being able to Bluetooth
pictures is a bit anoying but I'm willing to put up with for this
phone. The camera isn't great but then I've never seen camera phone
that has made me seriously consider getting one just for that function.
The user interface is spot on, even when not doing anything I find
myself just flicking through the screens as it's so smooth. Surfing
the net is a treat with the safari browser & when at home I tend
to use the iPhone more for going on the net than the pc, it picks
up my wifi as soon as I'm in the door & when I'm out the 3g speeds
are brilliant and even without 3g the page will load it just takes
a few more seconds. Email was no problem to set up as I have a googlemail
account & I now email as much as I text people. The apps are brilliant
I can spend ages looking at the app store, I haven't looked at iTunes
as I've always preferred amazon for my music. The iPod is excellent
& the video playback is great. I do need to charge the iPhone in
the evenings but then I'm always on it during the day, I would say
that the claims apple have made about the battery sound about right
to me apart from the standby time as I haven't been able to test
this as I can't put the phone down long enough. In summary although
the iPhone is missing some simple functions it is in my opinion
one of the best phones going & I now understand why people will
passionately defend the iPhone. I can't give it 5 stars due to it
missing simple functions so it's a solid 4 out of 5. Rating:

Ive had this phone for a week now, wanted to test it for a few days
before submitting a review and I must say I'm surprised by how much
I'm enjoying it! I was really excited when Apple first announced
the iphone and awaited it like a little kid waits for xmas! But
after reading about all the problems it first had I became a die
hard hater of the phone! When they announced the 3gs I started to
soften towards it and bought myself an ipod touch to play with to
test out the touchscreen as I've always had problems with touchscreens.
After biting the bullet last week and getting the iphone 3gs I really
wanted to be proved wrong about how good it was but so far its not
happened, I can't help but love the thing! I'm playing with it every
day, downloading apps and taking pictures and videos. The video
quality I think is great, I know there's better out there but come
on it's not bad for a phone! The sound quality is excellent and
the touchscreen has amazed me, I had a Blackberry curve before so
am used to the qwerty keyboard but I can type much quicker than
I could with the curve. The only downsize I would say is the battery
life, I fully charged it first off and waited for it to expel fully
before charging it again and have carried on like that but still
need to charge it almost daily as I keep playing with it all the
time! It would have been nice for Apple to realise that with such
a feature rich phone they need a super duper battery to cope with
it! Another downside would be that I've always liked to personalize
my phones with message tones and ring tones and as far as I can
see you can not assign tones to anything other than the ones pre-programmed,
if there is any other way I would be grateful if they could let
me know! Overall I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone,
it is now my new best friend and love showing it off especially

doc, excel files etc to the iphone. Why was it called a 'smart phone'
if it can't do this function we all take for granted in other phones?,
anyway, even in some non-smartphones? 4. One should be able to save
web pages while using the very old fashioned safari browser. It
would be perfect to save web pages just as is done with opera mini
and view them off-line. One cnnot always be on-line 24 hours a day!!!!!!
Sometimes it is so much easier to check a web page of line. When
will Apple learn that? 5. Apple should allow third party app like
opera mini in their app store. Is APple afraid that Opera mini with
beat the over-hyped safari and relegate it to the basement? 6Finally,
Apple should allow one to be able to edit files like music files
and also create more complex playlist from the iphone itself instead
of relying on i-tunes all the time. The on-the-go playlist on the
iphone is at best mediocre and bland. Despite all this short comings,
it is still difficult to give the iphone 3G S, anything less than
a 4 star? Why? It is still way ahead of the competition on most
features that count! AS far as I am concerned, the interface counts
best in any OS. But then, I think apple should still work hard on
their OS X more. By the way, How about forwarding a text message
without using cut-and-paste? ALso missing. Rating:

Used to have a Blackberry Storm (BB user for years!). I must say,
it was probably the worst Blackberry I have owned for a long time
(slow, unresponsive). Bought the 3GS after mulling over the idea
of an iPhone and using a friend's original one, and have to say,
WOW! UI is super slick and fast, and the phone feature is only a
small part of it: having a full iPod feature on it is great. Only
quibble is that I had to switch to O2 from Vodafone to get it. Coverage
not too good, bad experience in the O2 shop and MMS/tethering prices
are a joke. iPhone 3GS: 5 stars. O2: 2 stars. Rating:

My first iPhone; I was hoping for a new improved model ever since
my last contract ran out in March and when it was announced I was
glad to find it addressed the two features missing from the previous
one, namely video recording and poor camera. I'm so glad I got this
phone, it's brilliant. Every feature it has works really well and
the apps store has got me hooked. I've downloaded some great ones
and some silly ones but they're easy to delete if you get bored
with them. If I had any complaints it would be the slightly fiddly
QWERTY keyboard and the lack of flash on the camera. But other than
that... fantastic!!! Rating:

Having used the 'iPhone 3G S' for a couple of weeks, I think it
does not still deserve 5 stars. No doubt it is still the benchmark
for the user-interface, aesthetics and general styling icons and
now many of the basic functions(eg. Copy-and-paste, MMS,etc) However
considering its pricing, functions like the Camera -which are very
integral with mobile phones medium to top-of the line- is below
par. Moreover functions like A2DP (Stereo bluetooth) are at best
average- the sound does not have depth and comes across as plain
flat!-The bench mark has always been Sony Ericsson in this regard
and they have just raised the bar with their latest Walkman 4.0
release! The iPhone has also never been assessed for its durability
here. It is a fragile device-considering it has a compacitative
touch screen made of glass(not tempered!!!)screen, which many people
seem to be unaware it is always shrouded in some case or the other.
Whats the point of making a fantastic looking device that is so
fragile it need to be covered up. Otherwise if knocked/dropeed the
glass might crack and that would become a potential hazard to use
again. In comparison, while sacrificing a bit of tactility, the
resistive (plastic) touchscreen of the Nokia 5800 allows it to be
much more durable and able to take knocks without showing wear easily.
I have both phones so this is a mercilessly objective view on these
aspects of the new iPhone which when compared to many other phones
of similar specifications -including those made by HTC - do not
suggest it is yet a 5-star phone. Not in the pure objective sense.
If, as the review above says, it does not tick all the boxes (especially
fundamental ones - Camera, average battery life-non user changeable)
and is priced so high, it does not deserve a 5 star rating, at best
4 stars. Rating:

real let down for me is the O2 network, I get dire reception where

Sold my 2G iPhone and was really looking forward to the 3G S but
unfortunately I was to be disappointed. The battery life is way
worse than the old model (and I hardly used 3G, wifi or bluetooth).
Web browsing is faster but not dramatically, the camera is an improvemnet
but compared to the competition not great and the phone is still
missing some basics like an FM radio for example. Added to this
the screen locks once in a voice call and has to be powered off
and on again to restore it so have had top exchange it already.
Sorry but not impressed given the cost of this device. Rating:

After many many years of Sony Erissons and buggy phones I took the
plunge and opted for the new iPhone 3GS. And....It`s brilliant.
The easiest and best way to have EVERYTHING on the move. From sending
texts, emails, Twittering, Facbook, News, Weather to the very high
standard of games that are starting to appear now. Some give the
PSP a run for its money! 1000`s of Apps at your fingertips. I was
concerned about only having 3mp in the camera but in good light
when printed out postcard size the pics are of a very good quality.
The autofocus really helps compared to iPhone 3G. Low light may
produce more grain as there is no flash, but there are even Apps
that can apply effects to help with this. My only concern is the
battery. Fair use and on the first charge I got about 24 hours out
of it. Hopefully this may improve a bit but a charge a day is needed
at the moment. Overall a fantastic phone. The line has been drawn
for others to follow. PS Had the same with a friend showing me his
goolemap app on his N96. After a few minutes he got our current
location on a basic looking map. Fired up the 3GS and in a couple
of SECONDS googlemaps had done the same thing and with another tap
of the screen could even tell me what direction I was facing! My
friend was beat! Rating:

Great phone but..... what about the price and lack of some functionality!!!!!!!!!
Firstly, the cost to buy this phone outright is £440 to about £550
for the 16GB or 32GB models. For a phone!! Then you are locked into
apple's walled-garden of iTunes where you will be charged highly
for music, apps etc... Furthermore, being with only one operator,
02 in the UK, they will take every opportunity to charge extra for
things such as insurance and other add-on's. Next although a great
phone there is still a fair amount of basic functionality missing.
What about multi-tasking, what about a decent camera or being able
to alter items on the menu... In conclusion if money is not too
important go for it. If not then I would buy this when the next
one comes out and you can get the 3G S for a discount. This is just
too much money for a phone. Rating:

After owning the Iphone 2G 8GB since it was released i had no hesitation
jumping to the Iphone 3GS. I havent had a single fault with my Iphone
over the past few years. The camera is still a lagging behind the
'camera phones', but the quality is better than the low megapixel
value suggests (its not always down to the mp, it may be a good
quality lens etc), but agree with some that a flash is a basic thing
these days, even an LED one would have been something. MMS: Following
the comment below, i called 02 direct and they stated that yes 1
MMS uses 4 'standard' text messages, but there is no charge on top
of that. You will however be charged 24.47p per MMS if you have
used all of your free texts or less than 4 remaining. If you do
run out of free texts however, remember "There's an App. for that"
:p. Joking aside, the Apps that are available for the Iphone is
what is making the Iphone still one of the top phones to have today,
even though it hasnt changed much in the last few years. I read
at the last count the were over 10,000 Apps! I would drop it 1*
for the poor camera, but it certainly makes up for it in every other
department, so 5*'s from me. Add that to the fact that yes it cost
me £87.11 to buy the latest Iphone on a 24 month contract, i sold
my 2yr old 2G 8GB to an online mobile phone buying website/company
for £130! Rating:

WARNING What 02 shops may not be telling you. 1. When I bought this
phone yesterday I was in a long queue. I observed that no purchaser
was being informed what it would cost to send MMS. I had to ask.
They take 4 text messages and also charge you 25p on top. That is
equivalent to 65p per MMS. 2. Also, no one was being made aware
of the limited calls and texts you have until your billing date.
If you got this phone Friday it could be Monday or Tuesday before
your billing date is activated. This means you may only have a limit
of 15 texts per day and 40min calls per day until that date (less
depending on your contract). If you exceed this you will be charged
extra! So before you call everyone and text others with your new
number YOU SHOULD CALL o2 AND FIND OUT WHEN YOUR BILLING DATE IS.
Or pay the price. The phone is great by the way. Rating:
